Aneski Kendricks wants to know what happened to his brother.
And why he was so brutally tossed aside by the one person who should have stuck by him after Russ’s death. It took three years of hard work climbing the ladder to gain leadership of the Shepard gang, but he's finally in a position to demand answers. Even from the devil himself. Too bad the devil and the man he used to all but worship are one and the same. Aneski's plan has always been to get revenge, and not just for his brother, though that's what he tells his friends. He wants to know what happened to Russ, true, but he also wants to know why he was abandoned. If only revenge was as easy as it sounded. Once he’s got Flix where he wants him, it should be, but Ani’s old emotions keep getting in the way. Will his pent-up desire cost him his last shred of decency? What did it say about him that he could still want the man who possibly murdered his brother?
Flix Fulmini is a Runner by trade.
As the official Runner/Fixer of the Brumal Mafia, he's got sneaking around and secret-keeping down to an art form. Aneski is just a name on a long list of them he’s withholding information from, and out of all those names, he’s the last person Flix feels threatened by. Which is why it's so shocking when he's kidnapped on Vail University campus and wakes up chained to a wall drenched in ice water. Even more surprising is realizing who his captor is. Three years ago, Flix left Aneski behind, but the guy has been holding a grudge ever since. Not to mention the fact he's convinced Flix has something to do with his brother's death, which he isn't entirely wrong about. Flix has been hiding more than a few things, and for good reason, but when Aneski sinks his claws into him and yanks some of those secrets out, Flix has a tough decision to make. Kill Ani before he can tattle to the Brumal? Or force him to his knees?
Flix originally left for Aneski's own good, but now that he's come calling, it's getting harder and harder for him to turn away. Pretty soon, he starts wondering why he should even bother. In the past, Ani was this close to becoming his. Perhaps claiming him would be the best way to teach him a lesson.
He let Aneski escape him once, but no one messed with a Devil and left with their freedom intact.
Trigger Warning: This is a stand-alone dark romance, which means there are many themes that some might find disturbing. Some of these include, but are not limited to, dub-con, violence, mention of a deceased relative, a grieving main character, two obsessed men who don’t want to admit their feelings, and explicit sexual content not suitable for all readers. Please be sure to read the Author’s Note for a complete list of warnings! HEA guaranteed! Though this book takes place on the same planet as previous books in the series, each of these are considered stand-alone and can be read without having read any of the others.
Librarians, please don't add books. I stay up to date and add them myself and have ended up with many multiple copies because others add them later. Thank you!

It took a while, but in the end I like this book. If you make it through the first 50 pages or so, the book starts to make sense and the two main characters gradually grow on you. But at first, it was just brutal and a bit shocking, even though I should be used to it by now with Chani's books. Looking back, I love Flix and Aneski and together they just make so much sense and some of the scenes especially the epilogue were so grin-inducing. But my goodness, I was tempted several times to say I hate this story. I can't really think of what to write here, because every little bit would probably reveal far too much of the plot. I think if you like this crazy world the author has built here and if you are just addicted to these completely insane characters who take the possessiveness for their beloved to the next level of madness, then you should go into this book blindly. PROVIDED you can handle the triggers.
Aneski heard him step to the side, felt Flix’s hand on his knee spreading him open even more. Was he showing him off to the audience? Were they staring at his gaping hole right now? He should feel embarrassed, but instead, the thought of people getting visual proof of how badly he wanted Flix made him tingly all over. 😳🤤😳
i get that the shepards are basically a bullshit gang that are like mosquitos to the brumal but still…how the actual fuck did aneski ever become in charge🤣🤣🤣 jesus….like i love him but mans is not gang material and he’s not leader material😭 like flix was literally kidnapped and sexually tortured by ani and was practically giggling at ani’s terrible kidnapping tactics/skills💀💀 ani was so whiny and desperate and thirsty for flix’s attention which i ate up ngl, but i needed flix to give more of that same energy towards the end of the book. why is ani always the one clinging and giving speeches and even saying i love you first?!?! man idk why, but it just irked me bad….flix should’ve said i love you first or done SOMETHING in the last third bc honestly ani has been doing like all the chasing and flix needed his moment to step up when it came to feelings and gestures!!! so i did feel like the ending wasn’t as strong as it could’ve been…plus whatever happened to the sit down dinner/convo flix was supposed to have with baikal about keeping his shout abilities a secret??
but i do have to give mr provider some props bc damn did flix take care of ani!!! he’s so sugar daddy fr😍😍 literally paid for his housing and fed and clothed and took care of ani while russ was being an uncaring loser fuck up piece of shit and even set aside a college fund to help ani get thru college but took no credit and ani thought it was money his brother left behind but nooooo it was allllll flixy stix!!!!!😍 he even secretly checked up on ani like !?! mans was down BAD day 1!!! like hello is this not the most sugar daddy/baby coded convo ever:
~“You’re always like this. I give an inch, and you instantly think you deserve a mile.” “You used to give me everything I needed even without me having to ask for it,” Aneski replied. “I spoiled you,” he agreed. “So, spoil me again.”~
like did u not just hear ur mans??? fucking spoil him🙄
the first 60-70% ish was pure perfection tho, omfg, i couldn’t stop reading!!!! plot went crazy!!!!! the twist, the turns, the revelations!?!?!!? SO FUCKING GOOD!!!! like flix has shout abilities, ani is a porn star, ANI STABBING HIMSELF TO SEE IF FLIX STILL CARES ABOUT HIM AND TO ALSO FORCE FLIX TO NAME HIM AS HIS ONUS!?!?!!?!?!?!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😩😩😩😩😩😩 i literally died and went to heaven!!!!!!!! the way flix’s reaction to that whole shit was to go literally batshit crazy with worry and fear and LAY DOWN NEXT TO A PASSED OUT, RECOVERING ANI BC HE CANT BEAR TO BE AWAY!?!?😩😩😩😩 flix had so much fucking anxiety about ani hurting himself or getting hurt again that he chained him up in the bedroom at all times so he could know he was safe and HIS!?!?! (yes toxic af and crazy idc!!!!!) literally the way flix couldn’t even be happy about ani being his onus bc he assumed it was a manipulative play on ani’s part and ani was going to fuck with him and then leave him and flix wants to keep him forever😩😩😩😩 literally the way flix says “You can’t leave me if you’re trapped. If I keep you right here where I always know where you are and what you’re doing, I’ll be reassured that you’re safe.” and ani’s response is “You…care about me, don’t you? For real.” SCREAM!!!!! ani, he literally has a collar around your neck and you’re chained to the bed and he won’t let u go or let you see or talk to anyone or let you do anything but fuck him🤣🤣🤣🤣 fuck i love them!!!! also practically every sculpture ani made has some sort of call back to flix….like hello officer? yes i’d like to report another man DOWN BAD!!!!! like ani, what do u mean u got kidnapped by a former shepard working with ur own BROTHER, literally ur own brother tried to extort money from u with plans to discard u again, flix and the rescue crew caught up to you in time, got in a shootout where flix got grazed by a bullet, then the former shepard got in a car and ran over and killed ur brother and the SINGLE ONLY thing ur upset about is the fact that you could’ve lost flix!?!?! case closed👩⚖️ they’re insane for each other
so i’m giving this 5 stars anyway, even if i think ani is a fake gangster and the ending was a lil weak bc i reallyyyy enjoyed it🫶🫶
also i’m very excited that madden and berga’s book is next!!!
chani!!!! when will we get a devil that is a bottom tho!!!👀

MM Dark Romance Second Chance Sci-Fi 4.25 Stars ⭐️
I enjoyed the hell out of this. When I read dark romance with unhinged main characters, I need their crazy to match because I cannot stand a doormat or a meek mouse and this shit did not disappoint because both Flix and Ani were batshit crazy and totally hung up on each other. The lengths they’d go to, to be together was wild and impressive especially Ani’s impulsive af actions about halfway through this book. My jaw was on the ground like whattttttttt 🤭😬 So unexpected!!! Loved it! Ani is the leader of the most inept gang ever. According to past books they don’t even know how to spell their own name (Shepherd or Shepard) and are just a bit of a joke at this point especially compared to the Brumal mafia that rules the planet. Flix is a runner for the mafia and used to be friends with Ani’s brother Russ until his untimely death. Flix always held a soft spot for Ani and Ani has been in love with Flix for years but it’s been 3 years since they’ve spoken and all hell is about to break loose.
I think I love this series so much because the blurb never mentions the best things and I’m always shocked at what I learn about the characters and all the secrets they are keeping. I’ve read this series out of order as I started with Call of the Sea then picked up These Silent Stars and now this one. For the most part they’ve read as stand-alones however I feel like I need to circle back and read Echo because I know almost nothing about Baikal Void and since he’s the head of the Brumal mafia that seems important if I’m going to keep at this series. The problem is, I’m almost 95% sure I’m going to hate it because the blurb is so similar to Between The Devil and the Sea and I fucking can’t stand that one. 🤷🏻♀️ One day?
I believed at one point I’d be 5 starring this but unfortunately some ridiculous stuff went down near the end that was kind of predictable and dumb? And I probably could have gotten over that and still rated it 5 stars because the jealousy and possessiveness was OTT and I lived for it but OMG once again the lack of editing made me see red and it’s also why it took me so long to read this because some of the errors made my brain stutter offline. Typos are one thing but these are actual wrong word choices and I don’t understand why no one on her alpha or beta team notice them. Off the top of my head, we had vail for veil, beat for beet, Mid Verse for Mid Vest etc. The Mid Verse one really tripped me up because I had no idea wtf they were trying to say until a paragraph later when it said Mid Vest and something about a guy they sent there and then and only then did it click for me that Mid Vest was mentioned at the start of that chapter and Mid Verse had to be an error. ☹️ What makes errors even harder in a book like this is the fact it’s Sci-Fi so there’s so many made up places and items anyway that it makes it even more confusing trying to figure out what the author meant. Please do better! I love this author’s stories, but the lack of editor really grates on my nerves and I wish Chani would do something about it so I could give her books the 5 stars they deserve.
I found myself feeling quite disappointed with this couple in the series. While the other couples showcased their share of toxicity, they also managed to reveal a unique blend of love and respect for one another, even if their dynamic was far from perfect. In contrast, this particular couple felt devoid of that emotional connection.
Aneski came across as somewhat desperate in his pursuit of Flix, which was hard to watch. He seemed to long for Flix’s affection, yet Flix exhibited a troubling indifference that left Aneski looking quite vulnerable. From Flix's perspective, there was a distinct lack of appreciation for Aneski, and despite Flix's claims of deep-seated feelings, I struggled to see any genuine love in his actions or words. It felt like a disconnect that made the romance unconvincing.
I genuinely believe that Aneski deserved much better treatment than he received. The exhibitionism aspect could have brought some intrigue to their relationship, but it faltered because Flix lacked even the slightest hint of care or respect for Aneski. The character development for both of them arrived too late in the story, feeling rushed and forced as if they had transformed into entirely different characters in a matter of moments. This was particularly frustrating because I had become truly invested in their journey and was hoping for a more satisfying resolution.
I LOVED the first four books in this series, and then the previous book was just okay for me (unsafe/lost me at one point), but I had high hopes for this one...then I realized one MC (the more innocent-seeming one) is the mystery porn star mentioned in the previous book, and I just...am not into that. All I can think is...germs. I know, I know. But, my gut just went...eww. And the two MCs had a sweet one-time together in the back story, but now they've both been with SO many others...I don't know, I think I'm just no good with a lot of this second time around scenarios. Like this one just seems like nothing they do together now will really be special. They've done it all and then some.
Very cool concept (well, if you're into the SUPER dark stuff. I am), one kidnapping the other and sex-torturing him to try to get answers about whether that MC knows who killed, or actually killed, his brother. The opening chapters were engaging, but...then I found out about the porn, and now my gut's all twisted. There haven't been any others for either MC on page in the timeline of the book, and maybe there won't be, yet I still...blech. Putting it aside for now. Might come back to it later. But I have all the "others" from Bind (the ongoing porn series starring MC1) in my head now and...yeah. No.
I miss Chani Lynn Feener's super possessive, touch him and die, MINE, no one else will do MCs. I'll go re-read those.
Probably a great read for other people though, so don't be put off by my specific Nopes.
But, dear miss Chani: why don't give us Berga's story next. Pleaseeeeeeee! I swear I want to read so bad his story! Please 🙏
I can swear that he is like a power bottom crazy batshit who is interested "medically" in someone but then turns out in something else. Why am I doing a literally movie in my head with this character? I don't know. But I'm so intrigued by him!!!
Tropes: captive/captor, revenge, brother's friend, amnesia due to drinking Feels: 3.5/5 Steam*: 4/5 Kinks: Noncon, dubcon, bondage, exhibitionism, sex toys & f***ing machine Angst: medium HEA: yes Pairing: MM Triggers/potential icks/content warnings: kidnapping, stalking, being burned, self-harm (once), captivity, manipulation, violence, murder, torture, jealousy / pining
Flix at present is 22 and a Brumal Mafia member with secrets. He used to be friends with Russ who was part of the rival Shepard's gang, but Russ was a bit of an ass. Flix developed a soft spot and a bit of a crush on Russ's younger brother Ani, and he hung around in their lives more for Ani than Russ. He always saw what Ani needed and made sure he got it, even if it was from afar and he wasn't taking credit for it. Ani was only a year and a half younger and he had a huge crush on Flix. But he thought that Flix was dating his brother Russ. And when Russ died under odd circumstances, Flix and the mafia seemed involved, so they had a bit of a blow up and Flix got out of his life. They've still seen each other in passing over the three years.
Ani has apparently been playing the long game and getting ready to make a move to find out what happened to Russ and torture Flix for the information and his role in it. Ani engineers things so that he becomes the leader of the Shepard's gang and he captures Flix and holds him captive for multiple weeks. Ani tortures him but it's largely sexual torture, he seems a bit distracted from his revenge by his attraction to Flix. Ani has grown up and grown into his kinks. In addition to being a college student and gang leader, he's also secretly a successful pornstar who is very into being tied up and used.
Eventually Flix escapes and takes his revenge, which Ani enjoys. They get into a toxic dynamic of push pull. Ani won't let Flix leave him again. But he also won't promise to stay around, because he's still wanting revenge and open to finding an opportunity to hurt Flix. Flix doesn't really want to hurt Ani after his initial revenge, but he also can't let him too close either so he tries to push him away. But they're both obsessive and possessive of each other and they can't stay away.
Ani is pretty dumb and clean-handed for a leader of a gang. He couldn't bring himself to actually hurt Flix, stopping at burning a cigarette on his ass (and sexually torturing him which was pretty bad but that was more sexual and about his feelings for him then it was about violence and rage). And Ani had no sense of self-preservation, he revealed himself to be a famous p*** star. So that makes him identifiable. He clearly intended to let Flix live, so he gave away a big clue to track him down by revealing his identity as the Bind redhead pornstar.
I thought this was a decent book. 3.75 stars. There were some dynamics in their relationship that I really liked, I liked the obsessive and possessiveness and how the darkness in this was not quite as horrendously dark as the triggers and content implies because there were feelings there. There's a lot of simmering sexual tension and angst between the couple and there was a lot of plot and secrecy so there was some story to bite into.
There were some flaws like the usual typos from this author, some plot things that didn't make a ton of sense. I was confused about why Ani was having money troubles and needed to resort to a career in p*** if Flix had secretly set him up with money. I thought there was going to be a big reveal at the end that Ani hadn't received the money and had just gotten the house, but that wasn't the case. Minor frustration: a big twist was revealed on page 16 other intentionally or accidentally by a particular word choice.
I also personally would have preferred a little bit less pages spent with angst over past sexual history, that's not my favorite type of angst. There was no cheating. And no unequal feelings, they were both into each other, but it was just more than I prefer. (Spoilers... I know some people care about other man drama so, sharing... Ani thought Flix slept with his brother Russ and felt jealous but he didn't. Flix walked away and forgot about being Ani's first which hurt. Both Ani and Flix hooked up with others in the 3 years & they both felt angry. Ani being a pornstar... Flix was jealous and then ticked once he realized one of the guys was a friend of his)
Typos as usual for CLF. Any should be Ani. Manors s/b manners, scream s/b cream, reigns s/b reins, lessoned s/b lesson.
Some notable moments:
I liked little moments like this where while Flix was captive, he showed that he knew who Ani was and his attraction to Ani bled through. Little moments of consent sprinkled in an extended non-con/dubcon episode that pushes boundaries. "“We’re enemies and you’re my kidnapper,” he reminded, though when Aneski brought his mouth to his lips, Flix didn’t resist. Instead, he leaned in to accept the kiss, licking forward to greet his tongue."
"Ani thought he could make Flix want him and then walk out? No way in hell. Now that he finally had him, Flix was never letting him go. Aneski Kendricks was his. For the rest of their lives, he’d belong to Flix and Flix alone. Even if he had to keep him chained to the damn wall until they were old and gray."
I loved seeing this little moment of Baikal and Rabbit!! "“What have the two of you been talking about?” “I’m late for practice.” Rabbit stepped away from Baikal. “It was nice chatting with you, Flix.” “How nice?” Baikal called out as Rabbit headed for the door he’d just come through. “Little Bunny? How nice?”"
*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.
**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

Enjoyed Flix and Aneski and the way they're both so possessive over the other to an extreme extent. The amount of scheming between these two for each to get what they want was insane! Aneski was absolutely all in on manipulating Flix into finally making his choice - it was madness yet it also made sense for these two and the circumstances they managed to get themselves into.
I think they are my least favourite pairing so far though, sorry! I just struggled to get invested because the whole relationship was manipulated by Ani, and even though all of the other relationships have used manipulation, for some reason this one just felt different! I liked each character individually, Flix especially, but for some reason I just couldn't make them fit together in my brain like I have been able to do with all of the other couples. I think it didn't help that Flix had some weird loyalty to Ani's brother that didn't really make sense when he didn't even like Russ. He said he stayed away from Ani for his own good, but surely he could see Ani was spiralling? Plus Ani became a member of the other gang - to me it felt that if Flix was as obsessed with Ani as he claimed, and had been for years, then surely he would have intervened earlier? The loyalty to Russ just didn't compute for me and I think that's why I couldn't buy these two together because from what I've read so far, a Devil of Vitality would not have sat around and waited for no real reason to claim the person they wanted, or let their obsession have relationships with other people, when they could have just taken them...
Still thoroughly enjoying the series though and I really love the writing style and the characters this author creates so now I'm planning to go read all their other books too!
So just an FYI, I grabbed an ARC of this book through BookSirens, but if you've seen my reviews on literally all the other books set in this world, you'll know these are 100% my own opinions.
I've so been looking forward to Flix's book and I'm not disappointed. This book started with an absolute bang with the funeral and then Flix immediately being kidnapped by the love interest. It was pretty messed up, but in this world it kinda just felt more like Ani was a brat in need of attention and went about it horribly. Flix definitely has his hands full, for real. The miscommunication trope is a huge part of this story, but it didn't annoy me as much as it normally does because the circumstances kinda of messed things up for them too.
I really liked the characters and how they strike back and manipulate each other -- and they both know they do it. Messed up, but out of all the dynamics so far, this one is really not the worst. It ended up seeming really sweet. Eventually they recognize the issues they each have and try to work their relationship in and around them so they can become partners that trust each other in the future. Weirdly, almost feels like the most healthy dynamic???? A nice break to be had after Kaz & Nate's book which was just... yeah. But a quick reminder to not forget about that kidnapping, torture, manipulation, possessiveness, and excessive jealousy.
Anyhow, I loved this, adored it, and am thoroughly looking forward to the next. Berga & Madden maybe????
Started to read Rexton's story amd I couldnt quite remember which one he was, so went back for reference and got sucked into a reread. Ani is still not my fave, but no regrets.
5 stars
I will admit that I've been waiting for a book for Berga since the beginning. Flix was always on the periphery for me. He was the friend of the MMCs in other books, talked about in passing, but never got a lot of face time. Well, he is front and center now. This story seemed very fitting for him, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Chani is the master of writing flawed, red flag carrying, monstrous men who you can’t help but to root for… and Aneski and Flix were no different! A word of warning; this book is a dark romance and there are triggers galore so please check any warnings that you need to before reading 💕
These two have a complicated backstory and have hurt each other (both knowingly and unknowingly) in the past. They are both out for revenge, trying to do the most damage to the other whilst also being desperately obsessed with each other. This book has pining for days and, as with a lot of Chani’s books, there is a hefty dose of non-con and dub-con; these characters are dark, broken and dangerous… one mobster vs one Devil of Vitality… what could go wrong?
I loved the push and pull dynamic between Aneski and Flix and just wanted to shake them - they are clearly obsessed with each other but are so caught up in trying to ‘win’ that they end up causing more damage. Absolutely here for the cameo from everyone’s fave Prince of Music, Rabbit Trace, as well as cameos from a lot of the other Devils and their partners from previous books!
Read Devil May Fall for: ✨ Mob boss/pornstar x Devil of Vitality ✨ Brother’s best friend ✨ Kidnap, non-con, dub-con ✨ Toys as torture 🍆 ✨ Possessive but too stubborn to admit it ✨ Dramatic; I’ll hurt myself so you notice me ✨ I’ll chain you to the bed to protect you
Thank you so much to Chani for an early copy of this book 💕 It’s available on 29th May!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is the fifth book in a series I started on a whim. Since the first book I was hooked on the immersive world building and dark romantic plot of each book. They can be read as stand alone books, but the characters overlap, so I recommend going back and reading them all!
This book isn’t for everyone so definitely read the trigger warnings! It is a male-male dark romance with dubcon and some non con. This books lives up to the others in its series!
Unlike some other books of that genre, these characters are multi-dimensional and the plot is interesting. I love the distinct inner dialogues of the characters, it made me understand the character’s motivations. I sympathize, although I don’t condone, the toxic relationship that develops. That is the beauty with these books - it makes me root for the anti-hero love story.
Flix: I didn’t know much about his coming into this book, but I liked his inner monologue
Ani: At points he irritated me by acting a bit childish, almost throwing temper tantrums tbh - but I enjoyed his dialogue and think that him and Flix compliment each other.
This book was a great addition to the series and the two male leads were well-written with enough secrets and intrigue to keep me turning the pages. As usual the sex was hot, and each scene added to the character arc and relationship progression.
In conclusion, it amazes me how Chani Lynn Feener can craft such unique and distinct characters and love stories. Seriously, none of her books are character or plot sketches for her others!
I was so excited to pick up Devil May Fall by Chani Lynn Feener. I have missed the Devils of Vitality and have anxiously been awaiting Flix and Aneski’s story. Once I started, I could not put this book down. It was action packed from the first page.
Flix and Aneski share a complicated history. Flix is trying to stay away from Aneski after the death of Aneski’s brother and Aneski hates him for abandoning him. This relationship was full of push and pull until Aneski does something shocking (no spoilers). I think I gasped out loud because it was so unexpected.
I loved seeing glimpses of the Satellite and the Retinue. I loved learning about Flix and his hidden ability. Aneski and Flix were a great match once they got over the anger and bitterness. Plus, the possessiveness was spot on here- even in the epilogue. Loved it. I need to go back and reread all the other books now that I can add Flix and Aneski to the mix. I really loved this!
I received an ARC from BookSirens for my honest review
Disclaimer: I received a review copy for free via BookSirens, and am voluntarily leaving my honest thoughts. Many thanks to the author for the opportunity!
I had no idea what to expect for Flix, but Chani IMMMEDIATELY grabbed my attention with the blurb alone, and the opening chapters made it impossible to put this book down. The entire ride was SUPERB!! The dynamics that Flix and Ani have are probably my favorite from the Devils of Vitality so far, and with all the other books in the series, I really wasn't sure I would find a new fave!
But I've always had a weakness for freak x freak and second chance, and Chani absolutely delivered. The cameos from the rest of the Devils were great, the pacing was fun, and the spice was super hot. Could not ask for more and honestly a refreshing entry into the series. As always, I can't wait to see what comes next. Desperately hoping for Berga or Madden!!
4⭐ “You wanted to be mine? So you are. You’re mine, Aneski Kendricks. Here’s the thing about the things that I own. No one is allowed to take them from me. No. One.”
“I’m sorry. It won’t happen again. I’ll never—”
“Of course you won’t, because I won’t give you the chance. You want to know how to torture someone? It’s here.” He poked him in the forehead. “I’m going to fuck your mind so hard, you’ll forget all about wanting to leave.”
Aneski kidnaps and sexually tortures Flix thinking he has something to do with his brother's death years ago but when Flix gets loose, the tables are turned. In typical Chani fashion, this is a dark m/m romance that includes cruelty, possessiveness, sexual situations a plenty and that element of darkness that keeps you on the edge of your seat reading, would up tightly until you might break yourself. Her book brings that intensity of feelings, hunger and craving to own your partner, obsession with their every breath and make you desire all that want for yourself. Aneski and Flix will do anything to have each other, nothing can stop them. I can never get enough of her books.
I don't know if my reviews are public or not but this is just so I remember, in detail, what I thought about this book (because I be forgetting how I felt when I read the book). But if it is public then..... spoilers.
So, I obviously love this author and this whole series so far. I liked how this book started out. I liked how the more passive of the two, Ani, was the one to take flix and act out his revenge for how things happened between Flix and Ani's brother. I like how Flix escaped and left Ani and how he hunted Ani down when he didn't show on his own.
But this is when I started to kinda not enjoy the direction we were going...
It was super weird how Flix just left Ani and then seemingly wanted nothing else to do with him. But then saves him from dying, treats him so sweet while he's recovering, then immediately turns on him when Ani's fully recovered. Like acts like he hates him and thinks that Ani is only wanting to betray him. And then the fact that Ani actually WAS going to betray him.... Like what? You almost killed yourself to be with Flix and the whole time you were gonna betray him and leave once he claimed you? The fuck?
Then the whole jealousy thing happens. And I was thinking okay, yes, love this. Get jealous and claim him and show him he's yours......but right after, Ani gets kidnapped.....I mean it made sense because his brother wanted money but the way it happened and the speed that it happened just didn't do it for me. This book should have been longer to smoothly have all these big events happen. Especially Kal finding out that Flix is a shout. It felt all smooshed together. And somehow there was still time for nonsense conversations with side characters to happen which this author NEVER does.
So I did stop reading at 96% because I honestly could NOT sit there and read about how torn up Ani was about his brothers "actual" death when he's been plotting his death for half of the book.
And side note....the sex in this book was okay but NO WHERE near as good as literally EVERY OTHER BOOK IN THIS SERIES.

I'm not sure why these books seem to get shorter and I need them longer. I need at least 600 pages. Her world-building and plots are just too good. 😩 I wasn't sure anyone could beat Kelevra as he was my favorite up to this point. I loved him and Rin so much. I won't necessarily say Flix and Ani were better but they were certainly equal. I hope the next one is about Berga. I absolutely cannot wait!
This is a dark day for me to rate a Chani Feener Devils of Vitality book below 4 stars. But I was not living, laughing, or loving this!! A few things were working against my enjoyment of the book. 1) I hate the “in love with brother’s best friend” trope. I’ve always found it weird to crush on your sibling’s friends. Ick. 2) Exhibitionism. Massive ick! There is a lot of that in this book and I hated every second of that. Fake “someone COULD walk in on us at any moment” is fine but no. These two were loudly fucking right next door to other people. And going to clubs and filming themselves and releasing the footage. ICK. 3) I found Ani annoying as hell. He was obsessed with Flix from when they were teens and I don’t like when the subs do the chasing. 4) Flix never seemed all that interested in Ani in my opinion. He kind of liked him at first, then was just punishing him for dumb shit he did, then did a hard left turn into “you can’t touch what’s mine!” After they started their “relationship”. I just never felt the chemistry between these two. They were obsessed with each other for pretty flimsy reasons in my opinion. After the 48% mark I skimmed massive sections and eventually just skipped a few chapters so I could get to the end faster. This pairing is no Rabbit/ Baikal or Nate/ Kazimir or Rin/ Prince Kel that’s for sure.
Flix and Ani’s story suits everything that happens in this dark and depraved shared world. Love how despite all the questionable ways they did of showing their care, they were both still able to redeem themselves in the end. Triggers are not for the faint of heart but worth pushing through and finding that happy ending with them.
If you are familiar with the Devils of Vitality series this is the book of Brumal Runner Flix and new Shepherds' leaders Aneski. I've been really curious about Flix's book and I can say that it did not disappoint. I think it can be described as a second chance romance as Flix was Aneski's first love and while Flix also had feelings for him in the past he had to escape from him for different reasons.
I think the beginning of the plot was really good but kind of fell off a little in the middle but then picked up at the end. While I do not think this was a big fall it is the reason why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. I like how I could feel the desperation of Aneski and while I think Flix was stupid (lovingly) at times I really loved their relationship. Their relationship was actually different than other DOV couples and it made their story interesting in other ways. Love feeling a little heartbreak while reading a love story and while loved the beginning I'm glad Flix and Aneski got their happy ending.
I CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE BERGA AND MADDEN'S STORY!! Devils of Vitality series truly feels like a home to me and I can not imagine saying good bye to this universe. The universe and the characters will always hold such a dear place in my heart.

I am so excited to have been able to read this early!!
I swear every book Chani releases leaves me in a book slump where nothing can compare. I loved getting to see a different side to Flix and everything he does for Aneski. Flix was just as possessive as the other Devils and Aneski was the perfect match for him in every way!
Also, the nicknames Flix has for Aneski…..😍👌

Love love love Aneski and Flix! They were so toxic but oh so good together. Aneski is the power bottom I didn't know I needed in this series, backing Flix into a corner and making him take drastic measures...oof and Flix was not what I expected, he was definitely good at hiding the Devil. Also, want to add that one of my favorite parts or multiple parts is the interactions with the other characters, we get to see how the Brumal interact with each other more and we even got a Rabbit cameo, which made me so happy, my sweet boy is thriving with Baikal 😭 Love to see it.
This book was overall a fun read, with twist and turns and did I mention the spice? cause oh my god, that was the kinkiest Devils of Vitality book to date! 🥵
So excited for the next book! I believe it's Berga and I have a feeling it's going to be crazier.

Usually this deep into a series it becomes repetitive and predictable. Not here.
Wow I didn't know Flix or Ani had it in them but Holy twist and turns.
Great love story and the spice 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 as always is on point. If you thought the previous two was a little tame on the spice, the same can not be said here.
