A fairly massive tome, thankfully with lightweight paper and plenty illustration. The chapters are organised by architectural style, which makes browsing easier.

For browsing is what this book is ultimately for. I'm not sure that intellectually the subject really hangs together; as a result the book appears sadly light & inconsequential, the more I read it.

That Mr Stamp's wife (in the Introduction) thinks him the greatest architectural critic of the C20th is of course understandable but not at all credible.

And then there are Ms. Hill’s asterisked footnotes - on nearly every page! This is not just inexcusable; it’s downright insulting to the author – like having one’s essay marked at school. Her unwanted comments spoil whatever enjoyment there is to be had. Stamp must be turning in his grave.

I got it from Amazon marketplace £10 less than the published price; that is £30, a sensible price.
