Nick Butterworth was born in London and grew up in a sweet shop in Essex. He worked for various major graphic design companies before becoming a full-time author and illustrator. Among his picture books are Thud!, QPootle5, Jingle Bells, Albert le Blanc, Tiger and The Whisperer, winner of the Nestlé Gold Award. But he is best known for his stories about Percy the Park Keeper, which have sold more than 9 million copies worldwide. Percy has also appeared in his own television series.
The story of nativity has been told and retold for a great many centuries, yet it still brings us so much calmness and joy hearing it. This is a familiar story. We can't change the storyline, the setting, or the main characters. But it's interesting to see it being told from the point of view of a fox.
23-month old little-AJ loves this book, but this is probably because he loves the pictures of animals and baby Jesus. I wish I can re-read this to him in future when he has better understanding of things. A fox was up to no good and was eyeing a lamb hungrily, but before he could take a step further, he caught sight of the miraculous scene of angels bearing good news, shepherds rushing to a stable, other animals, and the baby Jesus.
I love the simplicity and the profoundness of the texts. Nick Butterworth is definitely a great storyteller. "He has seen a King and so have I. Not many shepherds or foxes can say that." "It is a harsh winter and life is hard for a fox. And for you too, little King, it seems."
Overall, this is a highly recommended book for parents looking for great bible stories for kids.
