He's a warrior of mayhem, a broken alien dragon shifter, and he needs to claim me to be whole again.

Taken from everything I knew and dropped in the middle of an alien prison maze, what's a girl to do?

Get stuck in of course! My assistance is needed everywhere and I love to help. As for all the huge alien dragon shifter warriors, the Sarkarnii, who rule this part of the maze? I give them a wide berth.

All except one.

Daeos is a warrior of rebellion. Not trusted by his fellow warriors, watched wherever he goes in case he causes more destruction, forever at risk of exile, this mountain of muscle, scarlet scales and long silver hair has decided I belong to him.

I've always been a goody two shoes, I've never so much as got a parking ticket in my entire life, but now I have the warrior from hell pursuing me and it fills me with...

Excitement.

Daeos is so much more than he appears. Damaged almost to the point of no return, he needs me almost as much as I need him. Only there are forces which want to pull us apart, forces which will stop at nothing to gain control of a warrior such as Daeos.

And I'm standing in their way.

One of us is going to lose everything and I know it cannot be Daeos, or it will shatter him into pieces. Which means I'm going to have to fight as hard as him, in order for both of us to be free.

Daeos is the fourth book in the Fated Mates of the Sarkarnii series from USA TODAY Bestselling Author Hattie Jacks. A broken beast of a warrior who desperately needs to find love and peace, and a sunshine human with a hidden wound only he can heal. Spicy, sweet, funny and delicious, Daeos will capture your heart.

Mr Chaos incarnate needed a mate, and who better than Opal, the resident ray of sunshine. She was his biggest defender and supporter, and I loved that about her. Daeos was filled to the brim with trauma and had a difficult time functioning in Sarkarnii society, even in prison. I was pretty pissed on his behalf several times because he wasn’t given mental health support, but punished for being “trouble”. I wasn’t a fan of one line in the book that made it clear Opal still had some biases concerning hallucinations, indicating there was a degree of choice. It’s very possible that’s not what the author was trying to get across, and I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt in my rating, but it gave me the ick. Other than that part, she was supportive AF and he was protective of her as well. Cute couple

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: violence, gore, flashbacks of death of parents, mentions of torture and involuntary medical experimentation, abduction (off page), imprisonment, poisoning of side character, drugging, explosion, pregnancy and birth (birth off page), mentions of past abusive relationship

Quickish Review

Fourth book in series is cute if more of same as earlier books. MMC has tragic backstory and slightly feral, and FMC had mentally abusive ex. Yeah, it’s what I expected - low on plot with lots of dragon banging.

DNF.

This book is definitely a character-type like/dislike issue for me. I like this author’s stories in general and I liked the setup until the story got to the first view of the starship. The author was going for the well-meaning but misunderstood hero, and I generally like those kinds of characters. She writes him as disobeying orders, and that is a too-stupid-to-live (TSTL) path that I just really can’t abide. When I got to that part, it turned me off, and I really struggled to get into it further until I just decided to DNF. If you can keep your reading enjoyment up through this part, I am sure that he will emerge from this situation with his hide intact and being celebrated as the “Hero.” I just couldn’t work my way past it.

YMMV.

Daeos & Opals story

So far I love Opal the best out of the human women bc she’s just so sunshine and easy going but stands up for her alien, even when everyone tells her he’s too dangerous.

Daeos was such a complicated but great character. He has a lot of problems from what he’s been through but he was the perfect mate for Opal they just fit together like puzzle pieces. I got upset for him when the others just looked down on him or when they didn’t believe him because of his history of chaos. No one touches his perfect treasure lol.

Always rooting for the underdog? Then Daeos might be right up your alley. He’s an unbelievably lovable orphan full of chaos and explosives 🧨 but 10/10 the biggest simp for the FMC Opal.

I felt like the prison planet is a really interesting concept and I enjoy the bigger picture of why they’re there. Like all of Hattie Jacks books this one got spicy quick! No slow burn needed! 4/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

“You are the moon to my stars, heartsfire. You are the molten core which makes me spin. You are everything I ever wanted and more.”
~~~
Opal is absolutely amazing! She’s kind, compassionate, sweet, always willing to help, understanding and, despite being hurt in the past, she always tries to see the good in people. Even more, I loved her strength and courage to stand up for the people she cares about, no matter who she was facing. Opal is an incredible woman with a huge heart and I loved her so, so much!
And then, we have Daeos! Wherever this red-scaled warrior goes, chaos and destruction follows. Everyone thinks he’s dangerous and out of control and needs to constantly be watched. And maybe his love for exploding things doesn’t help much in his case. But there’s more to this red dragon tornado than meets the eye. Yes, he might be a little awkward and not have the best way with words, but everything that came out of his mouth melted my heart. Even more, Daeos is incredibly selfless, fiercely protective, caring, considerate, loyal and honorable. And I quite loved his possessiveness and passion. Daeos is the whole package wrapped in rippling muscles and topped with quite the naughty tale and I adored every single thing about him. I love every Sarkarnii warrior, but Daeos is my absolutely favorite one so far!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Opal and Daeos! After what happened on the Golden Orion, Daeos’ future doesn’t look bright. Until a tiny human steps in to speak for him… I adored those two together! I adored every moment they spent together, getting to know each other, opening up with their pasts and showing their true selves. Even more, I loved how understanding, supporting, trusting and accepting they were of one other. They always had each other’s backs, no matter what. And when they couldn’t resist the undeniable need for one another, the passionate moments they shared were scorching hot! Ohhh, the Sarkarnii warriors never cease to amaze me and I was all in for all the naughty delight! Daeos and Opal were absolutely perfect for each other and more than deserved to find happiness, acceptance and love together!
In addition, the storyline was incredible! So many unexpected things are happening in this book! Everyone might think that the Belek are dealt with for good, but not everything is as it seems. And danger and monsters are still lurking in the darkness of Kirakos. But new alliances are made along the way, too. And did I mention that Daeos might be more than anyone expects? With everything happening, I was glued to the pages till the very end!
Overall, the story is another outstanding addition to the series! It’s filled with non-stop action, danger, suspense, twists, humor, drama, surprises, blazing hot passion and remarkable characters.
I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every single page of it!
And, with that ending, I cannot wait to see what happens next!
Balancing on the thin line of love and hate.
Daeos was my favorite character of this entire series since he was first seen in book 1. His story did him such a disservice. I like the book because it's him and we get to know more about Daeos and what makes him the dramatized guard warrior He is, however, this book feels like it had the least amount of planning and almost no execution.
Him and his mate opal barely engaged in conversation. It was just in implied situation and I hate that s***. Like if it's important to the story the readers should know. We shouldn't feel like we're still getting second hand information. An example is about 60% into the story when opal is speaking to the other humans and She has the inner thawed that he felt insecure about him losing his fire. While this was true, he never told her this so his readers were left to assume that this conversation, like many of the others of Daeos's past happened off page.
Our heroin opal was another character which was developed at the 40% mark. Sure, I appreciate the fact that she was supportive and all in for her big scaled man as soon as he appeared in her life. However, she has no internal motivation, The past she had with Kay ex feels very familiar to the first leading Lady of the series jem, and her internal dialogue and how she's feeling never matches her actions. She'll be like oh I can't trust men. I can't because this was so horrible and he gave me away and then she's pretty much just throwing her trust on the least likely person possible without any sense of self-preservation. It makes her issues seem fake and makes the internal dialogue feel unrealistic. So now it's just taking up words because there is no struggle with her. She's completely 100% all in and it never seems like she isn't even when we get the pages of backstory that have no relevance to this character.
So my largest problem with this book is that the internal conflict was balls and the building of intimacy was skipped in favor of sex and action scenes.
I knew from the previous books that Daeos was not as bad as Draco, Draxx, Drega and the rest of the Sarkarnii made him out to be. Daeos was really misunderstood and just wanted everyone to see him as worthy of brotherhood and comradery. Daeos had a terrible time when he was younger and in addition to that he was still suffering from trauma brought on from when he was held as a prisoner of the Belek. No one took Daeos ramblings seriously; always accused him of hallucinating and being an all-around menace.
Opal is one of the human females rescued during the Sarkarnii last rescue mission. Opal is an absolute sweetheart. She is kind, compassionate and understanding. Although a prisoner, Opal felt that she fared better in space than she did on earth especially after being given to the alien invaders by her ex-boyfriend to save his own skin.
Opal was exactly what Daeos needed. Opal was not only Daeos' calming balm, but she was his #1 supporter. When no one else believed Daeos, Opal did. When no one else took Daeos seriously, Opal did. When the danger that Daeos has been trying to warn the Sarkarnii about comes full circle; Opal does not hesitate to go toe to toe with Draco and the other Sarkarnii regarding their mistreatment of Daeos. Having a treasure worth fighting for Daeos is given free rein to annihilate and destroy their enemies by any means necessary to protect his mate.
Opal and Daeos were super cute together. Opal smoothed out Daeos rough edges and Daeos was able to deal with his vulnerability, fear and insecurities with the strength he found in his mate's love and acceptance.
Is Daeos trouble or is he just a tad misunderstood?
The 4th book in this series was a delight to read and I feel like I alternated between laughing and feeling like maybe Daeos just needed to be given a chance by his brothers and taken seriously for a bit. Does he have a tendency to get into trouble and maybe cause explosions? Sure! But he has his reasons and sometimes they are legit. And yes, ok, he is very mischievous as well.
Once he realizes that Opal is his mate, things take a turn and he really tries to focus on everything around him and become a more controlled male. Opal is great for him and she is very patient and understanding and listens to him where others fail to. Their romance is hot and sweet at the same time and I am glad that Daeos found someone to calm his mind. Opal is another strong female character and is also at times misunderstood by the other females. They consider her fragile but really they are wrong. She is just as strong and capable as all of them.
Together they compliment each other’s hearts and souls and it really is beautiful.
“I love you, heartsfire. You make me the happiest Sarkarnii in the entire galaxy.”
“And I love you, Daeos. The day I met you was the first day of the rest of my life.”
The adventures continue and the romances bloom. I can’t wait to read the next couples story. I highly recommend all of the books in this series.
"You are the starfire to my darkness, the jewel in my hoard. You are the flame which burns inside me, forever."
Daeos is such a broken dragon shifter that is mostly stuck in his own head. After a tragic accident with his parents, he never really is the same and the others try to get him in order the best they can but his mind is not great. After being locked in the prison, it is even worse and it seems all is lost for him.
Until our beautiful Opal shows up. She is always working hard and trying to fit in and be important to the group. Daeos smells her and it is instant for him that he realizes what she is to him. His mate and partner and I have to give her credit, she doesn’t take long to jump in and join him. I love a fmc that is kind and loving and fierce in her protection of her man.
The spice level in this was just perfection, and it definitely has some really good moments 👀😍
I absolutely loved this installment, probably one of my favorites yet ❤️ Daeos just is so sweet and he has my heart
Good
Daeos and Opal
Daeos is the dragon of chaos, always at the heart of every explosion, and never quite in control of himself.
It’s quite a surprise to everyone then, when he meets Opal, and finds his fated mate.
Opal finds it hard to trust, but Daeos manages to find his way into her heart, but there are still troubles on the Kirakos, and Daeos is smack dab in the middle of them…
This does end with a book hook cliffhanger- a small one, probably a 3/5 on my trauma scale: but it’s an introduction to the next book more than anything else.
Otherwise, this is a fun and sexy story, featuring the sweet Opal, and the chaotic Daeos.
Daeos was probably the most fun Sarkarnii we have yet met, because he is wild and rather charming (yes, he knows it). This leads to him being a little bit of a bad-boy, but an enjoyable character to read about.
It’s an enjoyable read, with a number of familiar faces from the previous books, and a few newer ones.
It’s one that Sarkarnii fans, and SFR/Alien romance fans will enjoy (especially those who love dragons).
There is nothing I love more than a chaos male character in need of redemption! Daeos is sweet, spicy, and hilarious all at the same time. His miserable history and vulnerability make me just love how wonderful Opal is with him. Daeos deserves all the love and warmth Opal has to give. Daeos is the dragon version of Pig Pen, though! It is amazing how he attracts muck of all kinds! He is a dirt magnet, and not in a good way, but definitely in a funny way! Reading this book made me laugh, cry, and crave a good day at the spa. I want an aquium in my house with a big Sarkarnii included! This story had great world building on top of the existing world set in the prior three books. There is even a new species of aliens added. These Sarkarnii keep giving us more and more to love! Hattie has the best creative mind and sense of humor, so every page is a joy to read! I am anxiously awaiting Drasus’ story!
The 4th book in this series is just as impressive as the other three.
In one word Daeos is chaos and Opal is his light.
Daoes is misunderstood. We learn about his past and why he is the way he is. I love the subtle hints throughout the story about who he truly is. When he realizes that Opal is his heartsfire he tries even harder to be better. To her it wasn't necessary. She loves him just the way he is.
Opal is his light in the darkness. The one person who can calm him. I love her compassion with everyone. And her resilience to defending Daoes. And she does that a lot. (remember he is chaos) I love the humor splashed in just the right places throughout the story. There is never a dull moment when Daeos is around.
Plenty of twists and surprises to keep you entertained. Spicy steam to the romance of course.
Another excellent story I will be reading again.
This was a really exciting book where Opal discovers that Daeos is her mate and how she is able to calm him like no one else can. Daeos is a Sarkarnii warrior and has lost his fire, and after he mates with Opal, he’s able to breathe fire again. When he learns that the monsters that should have gone with the Belek have returned. Now they need to rid them from the Kirakos. When he learns that he is kiralii, he is proud and happy to have learned that he has brothers in Draco, Draxx and Drega. They managed to destroy the portal that they discovered the Belek were coming through and now they are getting ready to leave the kirakos on the ship, but suddenly coral needs Daeos to help his friend Drasus with a blood transfusion. Looks like more excitement to come in the next book.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.
4&1\2 terrific🌟's for Daeos! 🔥💖🌟
This was one of my favorites in the series thus far! Red is my favorite color and you just can't help but love the troubled and trouble making Daeos. Hurt by tragedy as a youngling , never able to truly get over it. Hurt from fighting to the point where he is not always in his right mind. Daeos craves love , passion and stability. When he sees Opal he knows that she will be the one to love him the way he is. Opal the most kind and caring human female among the group she too was hurt terribly in the past and is reluctant to trust. That is until Daeos come crashing into her life. That crash brings joy and a love she never truly fought she could have and brings the kids if acceptance and love Daeos not only wants but craves. An excellent addition to the series and I can't wait for the next one!🌟💖💖🌟💖🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟💖💖🌟🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥
Red Hot Alien Romance!
Daeos is book 4 in the Fated Mates of the Sarkarnii series.
The Fated Mates of the Sarkarnii are entertaining alien sci-fi romance stories and if you want the full experience about this wonderful and exciting universe start with Hattie’s Rogue Alien Warriors series and then move on to the Elite Rogue Alien Warriors series (where we first meet our Sarkarnii brothers) then move on to the Fated Mates of the Sarkarnii series. These are fun, adventurous and spicy books that make for a fantastic binge read!
Poor misunderstood Daeos with a lot of broken parts but a heart of gold. He is like a lost puppy who just wants to pounce then lick you all over! You can’t help but love his antics and his attraction for Opal.
Opal; sweet, sweet Opal is the perfect match for Daeos with her strength and patience and unwavering loyalty to her ruby red dragon!
I love their story and I cannot wait to jump into the next Sarkarnii adventure with Drasus.
The prison planet story continues! With focus on Daeos and Opal, old details get examined in a new light. I think the revelation of truth was the best part for me - an important reminder to not judge/assume rather to decide based on real and measurable observed events. Daeos and Opal were each wonderful as they had their own vulnerabilities/issue explored and addressed. Fun banter, strong sassy females, mixed in with alien males-for whom apparently pants are optional- tied up in this sci fi story was quite entertaining. A HFN was achieved yet a cliffhanger ending for another character has me looking forward to the next story to come out!
I received an ARC and am voluntarily sharing my honest review.
I did not realize that this was a subsequent book in an ongoing series. While it can be read alone I really recommend you check out the other books in the series. I will be going back and reading them and then rereading this as I feel that the world is already established and there were things I feel like I was missing as I do not know all of the back story and who some of the other characters are in relation to the others and why they are where they are.
I really love them the way that Hattie writes and enjoyed but also was frustrated about how Daeos was treated by the others of his species. I thought the the spicy were great and really can’t wait to dive in to the other previous books in this series.
Opal has been abducted by aliens and put in the Kirakos... she and the other human females have been rescued by the dragon-males.... Opal just wants to help...it's her thing... Daeos' thing... chaos and explosions.. it's his thing... he's also, vey misunderstood... he goes pantless most of the time... and has major PTSD... and yet, Opal just drawn to him, even when others warn her away... Daeos' backstory is heart breaking and twisted... and helps to understand him... this is a heart breaking story... it's so good !!!
Why is it always the broken ones that get me? My favourtie couple in the series so far. I loved Daeos so much. He struggled and made no secret of it although I really wished that he wasn't seen as a problem that they needed to sort out. Despite everything he had the best heart and he also managed to keep a certain amount of fun as well. His relationship with Opal was touching. She didn't try to change him or take anything away from him. She helped center him and also show an alternative that he could take if he wished. He in his turn being steadfastly there for her. Their two incomplete halves fitting together to make one whole. It wasn't the mate bond healing them both it was their own actions and wishes. This is one I have added to my favourites and will definitely be re-reading.
Daeos is like a big destructive dragon-puppy that doesn’t mean to screw anything or everything up…seems like it just kind of happens. Also, when he says one thing everyone always thinks it’s a different thing…he isn’t ever taken seriously and his communication skills are lacking. However, his little human, Opal, understands him like no other and it was fun to read about the havoc, love between them, and resolution to the story. It was fun to see how Daeos evolved.
Still really in love with this series but I liked this book slightly less than the others. Still giving it 5 stars though because I really love Daeos and his chaos.
Grounding the Beast
Daeos is the wild Sarkarnii who seems to always get in trouble and is pure chaos on dragon feet. He is absolutely reckless and is he just misunderstood? Opal takes the time to find out and finds herself head over heels in lust and love with the King of Trouble. Their mating is pretty fast because one whiff of her scent sends Daeos into rut. I enjoyed the story because it was fast paced, full of action and passion. Old enemies show up and new friends (sort of). It’s a fantastic adventure that Ms. Jacks has created and I’m loving each romance of the series.
He is a chaos monkey, and she's all sweetness and light. I'm enjoying the way mating changes the dragons, and I'm still enjoying the plot of what is happening with the wardens and the starmap and all the rest, but I've caught up now to published books, so we'll see if I still remember to look up the next one when it comes out. The sex also starts way sooner in this one, which is annoying, but 1) I think it makes sense with the ball of impulse that is Daeos, and 2) they're separated at one point, so I don't think there's more or less than the other books. Anyway, maybe someday I'll get the answers to the plot I was wanting, but it'll be a while, if ever.
This one is probably one of my favorites so far. I was so looking forward to learning about Daeos and why he is the way he is. He’s such a misunderstood male and I loved getting inside his head. He definitely made my heart ache af times with his thought process.
And Opal? Loved her. I especially loved how she was more than willing to fight for Daeos over and over again. She stood up for him and helped others see how for the male he is, not who they thought he was. So fantastic.
Loved meeting even more of the aliens in this maze and looking forward to them finally getting off.
Book 4 of Hattie Jacks’s series is fantastic! Daeos was found by the other dragon warriors as a baby near his parents who had been murdered, leaving the baby to fend off the darkness all alone and permanently scarring his psyche… until he meets human Opal and is sent into rut. They have to fend off more attacks by the sneaky critters in the prison maze before finishing preparations of their space ship and facing the great unknown, searching for more of their species scattered across the stars
Another amazing read by Hattie. This is the 4th book in the series and one not to be missed. Daeos beats to his own drum. Unfortunately for him though he is the most misunderstood too.
His personality shines through when he meets his heartsfire. Opal is his one true advocate and will not stand for anyone disrespecting him. Together they tamper down his impulsive nature.
Daeos has to be the sweetest , romantic , smooth talker of all the Sarkarnii warriors who have found their mate. 💜🔥💜💜
I really enjoy this world, is it the best writing? Nope, but do the characters make you love them and want to protect them yes. This is a really easy read, with book spice level and the world building is so good! I think if you are wanting a good Alien/Dragon world this is a good quick read for you and worth it!
Championing her under-dragon
Daeos is a big red broken Sarkarnii dragon. Opal is the sympathetic human who sees beneath his PTSD and his struggles to fit in, to the adorable, honorable, messy dragon no one else knows. Their story is like a steamy, gooey, and messy dessert with a big red dragon on top!
Couple is great
But have to admit took long time for me to catch up to what the backstories if prison planet.
Still confused on how the humans came to planet and who is responsible for prison planet.
I just ignore everything I did not understand and went along for this unusual couples mating courtship.
