“In the kingdom of the vampires the price of failure is worse than death.”
Varrock is greatest human city in the world, yet its people are disappearing, spirited away to Morytania, the land where vampires and their werewolf underlings rule.
Re-uniting at Varrock’s Midsummer Festival is the now famed adventuress Kara-Meir and her friends. Sir Theodore, newly elevated to a Knight of Falador, is uneasy amongst the decadence of the court; the youth Gar’rth, carrying a dark secret known only to a very few, is desperate to conceal his true heritage; the wizard Castimir, whose thirst for magical knowledge sets him on a potentially dangerous path.
As unrest against the crown grows, the King is forced to send an embassy across the holy river and into Morytania, the land of the dead. Led by Kara-Meir, it is a journey that will test their loyalty to one another to the absolute limits, and none more so than that of Gar’rth, who discovers a truth that could change the world.
Their mission can only succeed if they trust in each other, yet Gar’rth must make his choice, a choice to submit to his own damnation, or to save the lives of his friends.
And if he makes the wrong choice, then a new king in Varrock will one who is lord of both the living and the dead.
