The best-laid plans are the most fun to break.

After years of disappointing her parents, Emberleigh Hayes has finally worked up the courage to run from the man and the life they chose for her (well, not actually run—southern ladies do not sweat).

Together with her best friend Ivy, she’s armed with a foolproof plan:

Step 1: Rein in the awkward.
Step 2: Find a job.
Step 3: (The most important of all) Under no circumstances let her hopeless romantic heart catch feelings…again.

Things are going swimmingly—except for one tiny hitch from her past—but then there’s Colton King. Ember knows that her new chisel-jawed employer is potentially leaving town and definitely off-limits, so it doesn’t matter that her insides flutter when he’s around. The man is basically a relationship tsunami warning.

But it turns out there’s more to Colton than his sexy surface, and he’s determined to get Ember to see it…even if it means teaching her that it’s okay to change her plans.

ARC Review

A sweet book that will give you a lot of positive emotions. The characters have created strong healthy relationships that are built on strong love and mutual trust.

Emberleigh has escaped from her past, family and unhealthy relationships and is starting her new life with a clean slate. She makes plans, but all the ideas don't go according to plan when she meets the love of her life — caring and loving Colton. She's not ready to get back into a relationship, but Colton shows her that he has only good intentions and doesn't look a bit like her ex.

I fell in love with Colton so much. He is the perfect man that every girl dreams of.

Thanks to Cindy Ras for the ARC, I had a great time with the book and enjoyed this story. I am looking forward to the author's next books.

What a sweet book. I loved Ember and Colton’s love story. I enjoyed how the story unfolds and the immediate chemistry between our two MCs. What I enjoyed the most is the humor and all of the pop culture references sprinkled throughout the book. I giggled and awed as I read it. Ember was such a relatable character. I found myself saying, that’s me, I’m Ember in some of the situations she got into. She was not afraid to be vulnerable but also showed a lot of inner strength. And Colton is the perfect cinnamon roll. Definitely read this if you want a sweet love story with of course, a happily ever after.

"I've come to the realization that showing vulnerability isn't a weakness; it's a true sign of strength."

If you enjoy a sweet, workplace romance with a female lead trying to escape her problems, a golden retriever love interest, a stellar best friend, and a couple of hilarious granny neighbors then Change of Plans by Cindy Ras might be the book for you.

From the get-go, I really loved this author's writing. It felt very reminiscent of Courtney Walsh and Kerry Winfrey for me. I also immediately fell in love with Colton. He was truly the highlight of this story. I love how he calls Ember Sunshine. I love his appreciation for marital commitment before intimacy. And y'all this man is the perfect example of "If he wanted to, he would."

I also appreciated seeing a main character who had parental relationship issues, especially with her mom. I found moments of this to be really relatable. There were also moments, however, that I felt Ember could have avoided most of her issues if she would have just communicated better.

Don't get me wrong, she was dealing with a lot (hard to please parents and an abusive ex-boyfriend), but I really wished she would have confronted her problems sooner. She also continuously made assumptions about Colton, because she wouldn't just be up front with him and ask questions. This happened for about 60% of the book.

By the end, there was enough character development and understanding for me to set aside my qualms with Ember's character. The end was definitely a "HEA" or "best case scenario" situation, which isn't always super realistic. But, overall, I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the next installment in the duology!

Colton and Ember 🫠🫠

So… my favorite part might be Colton’s name… because once upon a time there was a Colton, and he loved me so very much. Granted, he was under a year old, and cried if I even left the room 🤭 but still, that name is special.

I loved the bickering and teasing between Colton and Ethan. And the King family as a whole… family goals!! Colton is a gentleman, and I especially loved his treatment of Ember as their relationship progressed.

Since I read Writing on the Wall first I already kind of knew Ethan and Ivy, so it was so sweet to watch them in this one, knowing what is coming for them.

Initially I wanted to read Cindy’s books because of the covers, and I stuck around because not only does Cindy do amazing covers, but she write genuine, realistic, and relatable characters!

4/5⭐️

This was such a cute workplace romance book. I absolutely adored Em and Colt.
I have said it several times that I am a sucker for strong female friendships, and this book delivered it.

On some days, I just need a cozy romance that could make me giggle, squeal, and blush, and Change of Plans did exactly that.

Also, I hated how Em’s parents treated her; I can’t imagine how parents can trust an outsider over their own blood, but Colt’s family made up for them.

I hope that Ivy gets her own book. I want to know her story so bad!!!😭😭😭

There were a few cute moments but overall this was absolutely nothing. I should’ve stopped at like chapter 3 but I simply didn’t want to find a different book so I kept going. Used the word “unalive” and I almost immediately returned the book at that sentence

If you made this about a school project instead of workplace it could’ve been a cute ya

Only one word accurately describes this book.

CUTE 💕

The storyline of the book is cute, the characters are cute, the writing style is cute but also it's obvious this is a new author. This book was a little hard to read since the writing just isn't there, but the author does have potential. I'm sure, as she gets more books published, her writing style will improve.
Now with the negative out of the way, we can get started on the book itself.
The story starts out with Ember (the main female lead) on a blind date, a hilarious blind date that is 50 shades of AWKWARD. The writing during that blind date is what gives me hope that this author will improve as she gains more experience.
Then the book moves in to introduce Nicolas Cage, her cat who likes to watch TV, to the extent that she typically lets him choose what they are going to watch 🤣.
Now comes Colton, and thankfully we get an every other chapter POV from him which is kind of fun. Reading how their story unfolds is cute, entertaining, I definitely didn't force myself to turn each page to just finish the book. I feel like there could have been more depth, like everything happened rather quickly, and that the emotions they eventually felt towards each other was just so sudden.
It's a cute read, there are definitely better romance books out there, but if you want a quick and easy read that's cute and somewhat entertaining then this is definitely the book for you!

This rom-com is both sweet and adorable! I love the FMC's witty inner dialogue, and the MMC is a total swoon-worthy cinnamon roll. I also appreciate the characters' more wholesome values and family-oriented themes, as well as the humor. So many of the lines in this book had me laughing to myself and thinking, "Okay, I need this author to be my friend IRL!" (Especially when Opal & Gail were around!)

Readers should be forewarned of some deeper and more serious issues included in the story, although the author does a good job of incorporating these sensitive topics and making these elements realistic and relatable without allowing them to dampen the positive and uplifting mood of the book.

Overall, I enjoyed the story, the cast of characters, and the message, and I highly recommend this book to lovers of sweet and clean rom-coms! I can't wait for the next book!

Oh my goodness... what a debut!

Right from the start, these characters drew me in. They were both so well written and I couldn't help but find myself wanting to learn more about them. Colton's initial reaction to seeing Ember for the first time? Oh, I just absolutely adored it and really hooked me for the whole story. As a romantic comedy, there are definitely plenty of funny moments, but it also deals with some more serious issues like emotional abuse and strained parental relationships too. It was balanced very well and made me enjoy their story all that much more. Ember is so used to depending only on herself, so seeing Colton break down those walls as the story went on was the best. I'm admittedly a sucker for 'he takes care of her' and this certainly had that going for it in the best way possible. They were the sweetest together and I enjoyed every single minute.

I definitely loved Colton and Ember together, of course... but I also really loved the family dynamic with Colton's family too. His relationship with his brother Ethan was done just perfectly... and I look forward to seeing more of that in future books. With a debut like this, I absolutely cannot wait to see what Cindy does next!

Change of Plans is a closed-door romance with nothing beyond kisses. There was a fair amount of language throughout, but nothing too major.

**I received an ARC for consideration. All opinions are my own.

Recently finished this book and I have to say, it was almost a DNF for me. However, I kept pushing on because I wanted to read the second book in this series and I’m glad I did because it did end up getting better.

I’ll just cut to the chase and say that I rated this book 3 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book follows characters Ember and Colton and is an employee/boss romance. The first half of this book was a bit hard to get through. There was just so much inner thought dialogue instead of character to character dialogue, it made it hard to see why Ember and Colton even had such a strong connection to each other. They barely had any actual interactions during the first half of the book so it made their “attraction” to each other seem more like a school kid crush. You know, the crushes that hit us when we are young just because the person is cute and seems nice but other than that there is no other real reason. Yeah, that’s how I was feeling with the first half of this book since we were just getting Ember and Colton’s thoughts on each other rather than actual interactions.

And don’t even get me started on all of the celebrity references!! 🥴 There were SO many celebrity references and thankfully I knew most of them but if you don’t, you’d probably be confused as to what the characters are talking about. Even so, it took me out of it whenever I’d see “Shakira,” “Zac Efron,” “Kim Kardashian,” or “Jim Halpert” (just to name a few) thrown into the mix.

However, the second half of this book did get better. Ember and Colton FINALLY started interacting with each other more and once they did, it was very cute and heartwarming. Colton is such a sweet, handsome, hopeless romantic who is just so enamored with Ember. He is so loving, caring, and gentle with her. Ember is independent and incredibly awkward but has a pure heart that she’s kept guarded due to her upbringing and past relationship. However, she can’t help but let Colton infiltrate that heart ❤️

Because the first half of this book was mainly introspective, I couldn’t grow attached to Colton and Embers relationship. The second half was cute but the first half was ehh. So I’ll meet in the middle with my rating 😊

1.5 ⭐️ this was far to cutesy for me, I persisted bc I kept seeing the sequel everywhere but it just didn’t hit. The internal monologues where so annoying and I didn’t feel any chemistry with the main characters, and all the pop culture and ‘I’m so awkward’ mentions just made me cringe. I love a cheesy rom com at the best of times but this wasn’t it.

Rate: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5/5 (4.5/5)
Spice: 🌶️/5 (1/5) closed doors

Tropes in the book:
⛰️ Golden retriever MMC
💼 Workplace romance
⛰️ Found family
💼 Learning how to stand up for yourself (I'm not sure this is a real trope, but we're going with it)
⛰️ Mutual pining
💼 Sassiness and banter

*I'd like to thank Cindy Ras for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
Oh my god this book!!! Can't believe I had the privilege of having this as my first ARC of 2024! I had such a blast reading it, I was so giddy the all time, and the amount of times I laughed out loud should be enough for anyone watching me to be concerned I was going delulu. Ember was so relatable that when everything went sideways I had my heart running a mile per hour! It's wild how much I connected with her... And Colton oh boy! What a way to start my 2024 with a golden retriever book boyfriend! At this point, I think I'll take both, the morally grey villain character and the golden retriever one (at least if it's one written by Cindy).
Okay back to the book! I truly enjoyed watching Ember grow into the woman she always was but forgot existed, and obviously, I was a sucker for witnessing her finally stand up for herself against her parents and how she defended Colton with everything she had. Speaking of Colton, he was exactly what Ember needed, and the way he's so so freaking patient with her while she's coming around her insecurities. Their connection still felt a bit rushed in my opinion though, but maybe I'm just being picky over here... I really adored this book and I recommended it to every rom-com lover!!! The only reason is not a 5 stars one is that I felt like something was missing for me to be over heels by these characters and their world, but it's a solid fun read for romance lovers (especially if you want a clean romance).
Also, there are so many scenes in this book that made me laugh too much (lost count of how many times I almost peed myself while reading it) and that made my heart go all mushy! I definitely annotated the sh*t of this book and I'm not ashamed in the slightest! And the blind dates, OMG!!! I feel so so sorry for Ember as she had to endure so many hawful (yet hilarious) blind dates

Favourite quotes:
Attention boys! Flutter! She's talking to a hot man. More fluttering! She's already made a fool of herself! We're not playing around, now!

"Afraid to live on the wild side?" Colton shirps.
"I'm afraid you'll make your mother hurl when she tastes your witches' brew."
I don't know what's happening to me. I'm never this sassy. Maybe I was, once upon a time, but that girl was shushed a long time ago.

Yes, I read this book in less than a day. In 4 hours to be exact. And honestly, why did I wait so long to read it?! From the very first chapter, I was hooked. This book has me curling my toes, cringing in the best of ways. ‘Why did she say that? Oh that’s totally awkward!’ but deep down, it’s what we all would think and fight off saying in that situation. At one point, I felt all the feelings Ember did! And Colton King, yes Cindy Ras definitely knows how to make a swoon-worthy character! Where are the Colton Kings in real life and where do I get one?!

Okay okay, back to the stuff y’all wanna hear in a review. 5 stars, yes. I was initially skeptical about the first person perspective (mainly because I write in 3rd person and haven’t recently read anything in first person really) and it opened my eyes up to a whole new view. Mainly because in my mind, first person never worked for me (I walk up to the car and open it- seemed odd when I first thought about it). Now I realize, it’s first person so I can imagine it’s happening right here and now! I write personally to escape from my life and my stress and I 100% escaped from my life in this book. And part of me doesn’t want to come back to real life. The suspense builds, Cindy makes you want to keep reading to learn why such and such happened in such chapter (I won’t spoil!). And when you get to the end, you’re a little bummed it’s over. But guess what?! There’s another book! And it’s taking everything in my being not to pull an all-nighter and read that one too!

This is a PG romantic comedy novel, great for young adults and maybe even some teens! If you want to swoon, and cringe, and get absolutely enamored in good writing, then read Cindy’s book. You won’t regret it. Absolutely honored to be acquainted with her, read her work, look at her wonderful covers, and get advice from her author-to-author. Way to go Cindy! Making the literary world proud!

OVERALL STAR RATING: 4/5

CLEAN RATING: 4/5

I can’t believe this was a debut novel! Very well written and entertaining. One of the funniest meet-cutes I’ve ever read. “Hamster/muffin” – you must read and discover for yourself what this means. You’ll likely laugh so hard you cry…fair warning. LOL

All the love for characters with anxiety representation. Emberleigh Hayes finally realizes it’s time to remove herself from the abusive relationship she’s been stuck in. She sets off to start her life over in a new town with a new job. Her parents are beyond disappointed in her disappearing act, but they have no clue as to all she had been enduring from her ex-boyfriend. She has no goals for new love, but the universe may have other plans when Colton King, her new boss, comes into the picture.

The cast of characters in this book are hilarious. Opal and Gail, Ember’s elderly and plant obsessed neighbors are just the cutest. One of my favorite’s though was Nicolas Cage – Ember’s CAT! Let me tell you, this little kitty has a personality all on his own…and full control of the TV remote. LOL

Ember is awkward and she knows it. I related to so many moments in this story. With all my own awkward insecurities, it’s truly amazing when I stumble across a character that I can so easily connect with in this way.

A great story about facing your fears and standing up for your worth – finding the courage to change your plans and steer your life in a new direction.

4-Star clean rating due to over two dozen uses of the word d*mn and other mild language. Zero spice. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Change of Plans was a really sweet story full of heart, facing one's fears, growing, and finding love while also finding oneself. I loved the author's humourous/funny descriptions, as well as Ember's inner dialogue and awkward self (so relatable!) Colton is her perfect balance and a really swoony hero, and I loved that he was a goner for her from the start. There are so many beautiful moments during this story, while it also realistically portrays someone getting out of an abusive relationship and learning her self-worth as well as how to set new boundaries in her life. I loved the supporting cast, starting with Nicholas Cage (I'd love to join him for some of his TV-watching marathons—depending on the show), Ivy (such a great supporting friend!), and Opal and Gail (those two neighbors are a hoot most of the time). I do wanna check out Ivy's story thanks to this author's writing and that epilogue, but I'm on the fence due to some concerns about content. Still, I'd recommend this one to fans of Sweet Romance, office romance, and/or people looking for a story where both the MCs learn that sometimes a change of plans is the best thing that could happen to them. ~ 4 stars

Content:
Romance: just (passionate) kisses, though once it's mentioned that "arms grope." There are a few times where the characters wake up together (after falling asleep on the couch, nothing happens), but once the MMC thinks along the lines of "She's the most gorgeous girl on the planet and she's pressed against me. It's nice that she's on my side if you know what I mean."
Language: the d**ns are sprinkled throughout the book (it felt like a couple per chapter), and variations, like d*ng. Also, use of h*ll.
Other: mention of abuse in a character's past (both from her parents and her ex).

From the Library of Sarah Ashley: Book #48
Hot Dogs, Heartstrings & A Cat Named Nicholas Cage

I’ve never read a romantic comedy before, but Change of Plans by Cindy Ras was a hell of a first pick.

Sure, it’s got your classic rom-com plot:
➤ Girl escapes a traumatic relationship
➤ Girl goes on awful blind dates for blog content
➤ Girl falls for her dreamy billionaire boss (because obviously)
➤ And yes, we all know how it ends…

But can we PLEASE talk about the real MVPs?
A cat named Nicholas Cage who watches TV and knows how to use the remote?? Iconic.
The unhinged but lovable neighbor duo, Gail and Opal, who basically adopt her? Obsessed.

Let’s not forget the emotional landmines
Shitty childhood? Check.
Daddy-dearest setting her up with her abusive ex? Double check.
Therapy bills? Probably incoming.

Did I stay up until 4am reading this in one sitting? Yes.
Did I have to adult at 8am with a full workday? Also yes.
Do I regret my decisions? Absolutely not.
Was it worth it? ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY.
Will there be a duology with the bestie and the brother? Most likely.
Will I read it? You fucking betcha!

Oh — and the moment she tried a hot dog for the first time at age 26 with her new boyfriend’s warm, chaotic, loving family??
Literal happy tears at 2:30am.
This book hit me with all the feels: sad, mad, happy, giddy giggles — you name it.

5 stars.
Would read again.
Would sacrifice sleep again.

I adore Ember and Colton so much! From their super funny meet cute, to the agonizing wait for them to realize that they just need to hurry up and be together, to swoon worthy romance they provided. Cindy, you did it girl! You wrote a book, you published the book, and readers are going to enjoy the journey this book brings.

I enjoyed meeting all of the fun side characters, Nicolas the cat was probably my favorite. Or the two elderly neighbors that tugged my heart.

The fun events in this book made for the perfect Romcom set up and had me gritting my teeth just waiting for this slow burn to BURN! While this book was full of laughs, it also touched on a rough topic in a graceful way. Cindy did a wonderful job!

Now, the cover drew me in because not only does Cindy do an amazing job with her illustrations but this cover us absolutely gorgeous!! But Ember, I just loved her so much and could relate to her awkwardness 100%.

Over all, this is a fun read that leaves you swooning in all the best ways! Read if you love:

🐈‍⬛ Work Place Romance
🏕 Adventure Dates
🐈‍⬛ Slow Burn
🏕 Shaina Twain Fan
🐈‍⬛ Dual POV
🏕 Protective MMC

It was amazing! I loved reading this book a lot. The romcom vibe was amazing to read. The development of the characters throughout the book was amazing and I’m glad I got to experience them all.

The way the book showed the development of every character and the way that they felt was really great to read as well.

Colton and Ember are so adorable, the relationship between them was so beautiful and the way the book showed how they cared and loved one another was amazing.

Colton, there is so much to love about him and his character the way he cares about and loves the people close to him is so beautiful and it just makes you love him so so much.

Overall, I was honoured to read this book, Change of Plans was a really great Romance/Romcom to read and enjoy. Thank you Cindy for giving me the opportunity to read this and I hope everyone else enjoys it too.

I loved, loved, loved this book! It was the perfect mix of relatability, humor and best of all, sweet romance.

One of my favorite elements of this book was the character development. I was instantly drawn in by ALL of the characters- even the ones some might consider the antagonist. The author clearly spent a great deal of time and energy painting a clear picture of each character’s background story/history and perfecting their personalities- even the cat, Nicholas Cage’s :).

As for Ember and Colton, I love everything about their relationship… the denial and hesitation, the drama other people bring into the mix, their defenses falling etc. I wish I could witness the process of their worlds colliding all over again for the very first time.

Definitely looking forward to whatever else this author may be writing for us in the future (hopefully Ethan gets a story too)!

I dnf'ed this book. I'm not going to rate it, cause I respect authors, but look I've got to get this off my chest. Authors, please, for the love of all that's holy, stop making female characters harass men. I'm not picking on this particular author, it was just unfortunate she included a female character who was constantly touching and cornering a man after he turned her down. These scenes are incredibly uncomfortable. Harassment occurs to both genders. It's not cute, it's not funny, it's not empowering. No means no, regardless of gender. Include it in a book and make it an HR complaint. Sorry for my tirade, I've simply seen this a bit too much recently and I'm as bothered by it as if the gender roles were flipped.

Seriously Loved This

Granted, the dual first person perspective and very legitimate thought processes as narration made it a little confusing and pretty hard to get into. At first, I kept being like, wait what?? But I found a groove. And so glad I did! Love love LOVED this read! Super cute. As a therapist, I appreciated a lot of the personality and thinking patterns that are totally psychologically accurate. Nicely done!!

I need Vee’s story, like, right now please.

Some language. I’m not good at counting these things, but it felt like around 20 total? A’s, H’s, and D’s. Maybe a G in there…
References to emotional abuse, like control and gaslighting. We do get a little bit of it in real time too.

Change of Plans was absolutely brilliant.
It is a dual POV love story - and when I say love story, it's not your typical romance. Yes, two people fall deeply and madly in love with each other - but there is something about these two - they were written creatively and with a unique voice. I enjoyed the balance of swoon and banter.

I loved that Ember was a bit of a basket case, a 'hot mess' as she described herself, in the beginning, but shows enormous growth. Colton is just the perfect man. Simply too good, in all the right ways.

I laughed often, smiled a lot, and read the last two chapters through misty eyes. LOVED IT

Thank you for the ARC version! 🤍

If you like a cute romance book without any spice, this is the book for you. Romance book doesn’t always need spice to be good and this book is the perfect example!

I fell in love immediately with all the characters even the "meaner" one. They are so well written, you can easily get attached and cheer for them.

I love the relationship between Colton and Ethan and their parents. That with the relation between Colton Ember. I would highly recommend this book to friends and family.

There was too much manplaining and "fix her" energy for this to be romantic. Every time the h was being her natural introvert self, the H would corner her and try to figure her out or give her advice. I wanted to tell him to fuck off but apparently changing for a man is the same as growth???

Either way, I'm just not interested in watching him fix her into being more open and friendly, as if there's something broken or wrong about not wanting a stranger to hug you without warning or permission.

The sweetest book!

10/10 Romcom my friends. Just read this!

This was beautiful and charming and swoony all at once. I couldn’t help but cheer for Ember, she was so strong! Colton was also amazing without being cheesy or unrealistic.

Things I loved:

- NO third act breakup 🎉🎉
- Healthy boundary setting
- So swoony you don’t miss the spice!
- Colton’s business idea, such a fun theme throughout the whole book!
