Welcome to Darkblood—oops, I mean Darkhen Academy, where secrets lurk behind every spell and forbidden romance simmers beneath the mystical surface.

In this prestigious supernatural institute, three rules reign supreme:
1. Avoid all contact with The Seven, the enigmatic rulers of the magical academy.
2. Steer clear of the Fae forest under the bewitching glow of the full moon…or else.
3. And most definitely do not fall for one of the extremely hot and unattainable instructors, no matter how tempting their charms may be.
But rules were made to be broken, right? And breaking them is practically my specialty.

I'm Luna Hallows, the latest addition to Darkhen's eclectic student body. Imagine my surprise when I discovered my own supernatural heritage—a revelation that landed me smack dab in the middle of a world I never knew existed.

As the sole human amidst a sea of magical beings—dragons, fae, witches, and vampires—I'm about as out of place as a unipeg at a werewolf convention. Yet, fate seems to have other plans for me, forcing me into a destiny I never asked for.

With the delicate balance between the human and supernatural realms hanging in the balance, it's up to me and my new classmates to prevent chaos from consuming both worlds.

But as tensions rise and passions flare, navigating love and duty becomes a challenge even magic can't solve.

Dive into a world where supernatural secrets collide with simmering romance!

***This is an upper YA/NA crossover with schmexy supernatural guys and is best suited for age 16 and over. Be warned, the steaminess factor does increase through the course of the series!

***Darkblood Academy is set within the world of Azar along with Hitched but it's not necessary to read that series first to enjoy this one.

G.K. De Rosa has been an avid reader from a very young age. In fact, before she could even read, she tried fooling everyone into thinking that she could. At the precocious age of two, while living in Italy, she had memorized an entire children’s book in Italian and expertly turned the pages at the exact right moments of the story. As she grew up, she always enjoyed literature, no doubt having been instilled with a love of story telling from her early years in Catholic school where she was greatly influenced by exemplary teachers who taught her the value of English and Literature. Though she did not pursue writing in college and instead went for the more traditional route of International Business inspired by her love for travel and all things foreign, after a move to New York City, she found her creative writing side calling once again. She began writing a restaurant review blog, City Lights and Tasty Bites, detailing her other passion – food! The hectic hustle and bustle of the city, combined with long commuting times gave her the opportunity to spend more time reading and rekindled a lost love. After reading countless books in many diverse genres over the two years in New York City, and returning to her home state of Florida, she felt compelled to write something for herself. She had always felt particularly drawn to Young Adult novels and having been an eternal romantic at heart, a fantasy romance was a natural choice. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their fur baby, Nico the German Shepherd.

Luna is a foster child in her last year of high school. She’s pretty and has a friend but isn’t very good at school (or anything, probably). One day, a reality TV star shows up and tells her that they are a) half-sisters and b) Luna is supernatural and has to go to a special supernatural school. Sure, why not. I mean at this point, I’m still reeling for the implied injustice of the prologue, where Luna is born and her mother don’t want her because she’s supernatural, and her supernatural father isn’t going to take on responsibility for her, and is being all grimly critical of the mother. A woman he presumably had consensual unprotected sex with. Luna’s father is a no good deadbeat dad, and I’m on her (not appearing again in this book) mother’s side: he’s garbage.

And now I’m distracted: so yes, Luna’s mum rejects her child because she’s a bigot and I’m not coming to her defence, but I’m so impatient with these plots! The dad is a very powerful warlock with lots of children he’s never taken care of, and is now pretending to be the VP of the US so he can get supernatural stuff settled into the muggle world. I’m pretty sure the series is going to give him a role and a voice at some point, and I’m so irritated because I’m also pretty sure the mother’s voice and role have been finalised in the prologue. Argh, so unfair.

Anyway, there was an earlier series where Luna’s extremely pretty half-sister was the Bachelorette, and it turned out that her 25 suitors were supernatural, and that’s how supernaturals were introduced to muggles. Through a dating show. I was sort of intrigued by the premise, but then Luna had to spend most of the book panting over one of the ex-suitors who was also her teacher, and I did not like it.

At the school, blah blah, there’s a hot snooty boy and some other boys and some mean girls and they’re in a secret magic club. Luna makes friends with dragon girls, and they are useless. Dragon girls should not be useless, it made me mad. Luna is maybe also going to end up with the hot snooty boy as well as the teacher, I don’t care.

Luna has special magic (whatever). There’s a thing called a unipeg. Just don’t do that, it’s an awful idea.

And everybody swears ALL THE TIME, but use same first letter word substitution. And every time I see it, I think: stop wasting my time. If you don’t want to use vulgar language: then don’t. Stop pointing it out to me, I don’t understand what you’re trying to achieve.

Luna kept going on about the Bachelorette show, which made me think she would have preferred to be in that series, which made me think it’s probably a lot better than this series, but also probably terrible.

The Half-Blood is the first in a four part young adult/new adult fantasy series, that’s perfect for readers who want to escape into an adult/teen version of adult Harry Potter. While the heroine is eighteen, it does read as a slightly younger YA; however, the author has a warning that the series gets steamier as it progresses. So, ultimately, it’s an ultra-slow-burn paranormal romance!
This is the first in a series, but it’s clear right away that it’s a spin-off series. I had some serious FOMO while reading this book, and there are definitely spoilers for the previous series–Hitched–so I’d suggest reading that one first. It’s too late for me, I guess :( (I hate spoilers)
This book is fast paced with lots of action and adventure. I loved the setting of the Darkhen Academy, and the cast of characters is quite fun and lovable. This reminds me quite a bit of Harry Potter, and it feels a little like fan fiction. Even Drake (basically Draco from Harry Potter), is a great character, and I hope we get to dig deeper into his personality in the next books. The way that the world works is clearly well thought out, and it’s well articulated, despite this clearly being a spin-off series.
One thing that bothered me a little bit about this book is that Luna’s love interest, Ryder, had been a love interest in the previous book series. Everyone seems to have been in love with Luna’s half sister from that series, and everyone compares her to her. That would be okay if she was completely different from her sister, but they keep remarking on how similar she is. It’s like she isn’t a person on her own, which made me feel kind of sad. Even her love interest, Ryder, calls her “Mini Minx”, because his pet name for her sister had been Minx. Umm… I wouldn’t want to keep being reminded of that past relationship!
All in all, this is an entertaining, paranormal romance with a fast-paced plot, slow-burn romance, and vivid worldbuilding.

A school with almost every supernatural you can think of! I loved Darkblood Academy. It’s definitely one of my new favorites. I hated to put it down. It was fast-paced with tons of adventure, magic, mystery, and romance. Luna is a fun character who doesn’t break under all the supernatural pressure she’s been tossed into. The romance between her and this shmexy, off-limits guy is just heating up. I’m so glad to see him in this book ; ) I can’t wait for the next!

DNF.

The writing is amateurish. The heroine is 18 and very immature.
The fact that the heroine was lusting after the same men that lusted after her step-sister on a Bachelorette type realty show just turned me off. I started to disconnect the more the author mentioned how these hot men were competing for her pretty step-sister’s attention.

I felt that the author had a good idea, but with the bachelorette references and the writing style, it just did not work.

The Seven, I thought were a joke. They were a mixture of hot guys and mean girls.

This did not work for me. I did not feel any chemistry for it to be an RH.

I liked the prologue a lot. However, after that it went downhill.

A woman gave birth to a half human child. The dad fathered many illegitimate children. The heroine went to foster care until the step-sister found her.

You may love it. My opinion. Good luck.

Ok, so I feel so cheated here. So many stars and good reviews.
Ok, fair warning, there might be spoilers ahead.
....
So here it goes:

This is a story about children trying to act like adults and failing miserably.

Spoilers ahead...

Spoilers ahead...

You’ve been warned...

1. There is this school that is currently teaching students to be badasses. To learn great things. Being a school you would think it was serious, right? Well they all come out from a reality tv show? What the hell? It’s like miss Universe for president. Well, no, actually it is much worst. Miss Universe might be working towards a new career that requires a brain. If you are a badass you don’t go and show it on tv.

2. The principal and the instructor have been there for just a year. Have they done anything else than hit each other on camera? Who knows.

3. Oh, love great love. Because some people do not get their hormones under control during their teenage years like most, Luna has to drool around every guy he sees. But then, she finds herself drooling more for her forbidden instructor and decides to give it a go. After all, even if they haven’t spoken about anything that is not class, this is so meaningful. I’m touched.

4. Ok, this is really by far the worst part. You have a mark that attracts demons. What do you do? You go out and have fun, at least until you almost get your best friend, who is a freakin dragon, killed. But then again you are better than everyone else. So when they put you in a safe place and ask you to stay put, you decide to sneak out and see if you manage to get the job done and get someone killed for real. After all, you are the new dumb badass in school. Less than two months and one of those spent whining about not having any power. But in a week without your squishy over drooled guy you find yourself with more power that all the school put together. Just ditch him all together and see if you become a god. Who knows!!!

Embarrassing really.
I read somewhere that this was a story about a badass girl, a hot guy and many adventures.

She was childish an whiny. She drooled for every guy including her brother in law. And she should have died in the first battle for lack of brain.

Victory=Brain+Brawl

⬆️ Everyone knows that ⬆️

Maybe if she watched less realities and read more books she wouldn’t be brainless. But then again, everyone there is for their looks so how the squishy toy instructor managed to save the dumb heroine is beyond me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Half-Blood was a rather tame book. I know it was YA but it felt a tad bit juvenile for the characters' intended age. It gave me so much of PG-13 vibes with the MC's blushing naiveness, censored curses and an overall non-graphic style with every element.

Luna was supposedly 18 but honestly she acted like she was maybe 16. Her mannerism, dialogues, reactions to Ryder or other guys.. everything was just not convincing enough to make me feel like she was actually 18. Hell she didn't even curse, I mean seriously? She wasn't the age appropriate heroine so everything she did felt.. off. Ryder was another weird character, I get a teenager having a thing for him but what in the world inclines a 21 years old dude to fancy a teenager? That question doesn't get answered. Whatever "chemistry" they had is solely based on physical attraction and superficial flirting, I really couldn't see the foundation on which these "feelings" were developing. I'm not sure if this going to be a love triangle situation or what with Luna side eyeing Drake as well.

The Seven were quite underwhelming for being a bunch of powerful supernaturals. I felt like the academy setting didn't really explore the gritty side of paranormal. We got to see physical combat, one magical defence class and unipeg flying experience that honestly doesn't really portray any kind of meaningful attachment forming between Zeus and Luna. It just felt too mundane for what could have been seen with all of these different paranormal beings involved.

The story itself is quite basic but I liked that it really wasn't trying to make Luna a special snowflake with the way things progress in terms of her powers even though she is the centre for everything happening. It's just the whole thing stayed too vague with the demons, the mark and the dark lord to make me care about the demon attacks. The attacks itself were very weak at portraying these demons as dangerous, the scenes lacked the punch it needed.

I would’ve give this book a 100 out of 5 ⭐️!!
This book was utterly amazing. After a very long time I found a book I can reread and never stop loving.
I got this book as an ARC for review, but I’ll buy this book as soon as I can! ❤️ I can’t wait for book #2

Let me tell you, if you loved/love ACOTAR, you’re gonna LOVE this one! 😍

Rydar is just GORGEOUS BAD BOY DEVIL’S SON and you CAN NOT NOT fall in love with him! ❤️😍

I love Luna and her character! She’s amazing, finally not just some girl that will go mad or crazy or anything about boy or things that are happening to her. Also a huge plus is that Luna is 18 years old.

I just LOVE this book, not words can even describe it! ❤️❤️❤️

I feel like I just sat through a full dairy from a nickelodeon star. Between the stomping around, pouting because her hot teacher didn't want to find out what color her panties were and the odd choice of having so many people around Luna that were tv stars, I wanted to claw my eyes out. There was also a lot of turns of phrases that dragged me back to the Lindsay Lohan / Brittany Spears era of television. And not in the good way. She said things like crapola and OMG and crapcicles.

This book might have inadvertently triggered a trauma response, now that I'm thinking about it.

I was actually very disappointed with this one. I never read Hitched series. The Darkblood academy is set up in the same world and does include characters from Hitched series.

The story is about Luna, who is a half blood and grew up in a foster home, doesn't have much of a life, not many friends or interests either. One day she finds out that she is a half blood supernatural and whisked away to a supe academy. Thus, begins her journey into supernatural world and finding out her sheshul powers. She was 18yrs old however, she came across as a 15-16 yr old the way she acted.

My issues with this book were quite a few. The writing was amateurish and did need better editing. It started well with the prologue etc..I believe it was supposed to garner sympathy towards Luna. By the end of the book though I just wanted to smack her myself. Her mom though, ugh....B*tch.

This book had potential but fell short a lot IMO. First of all, the FMC has TSTL down 100%. She was your typical - I am speshul, but I am so weak, I have no powers yet blah blah. (It was even pointed to her that she can still work hard and fight despite no signs of powers.) BUT I will keep running towards dangerous things cuz that's what I am supposed to do and become damsel in distress. She was not good at anything. YET, got upset over not being included in things. Then, at one point, her life is at danger as she is marked. She knows it and knows that anyone around her is also in danger. So what does she do? Goes to a party cuz she wasn't attacked in 3 days so ergo, she must be ok. I do not think I need to spell out what happens at that party *eyeroll*. There were few other things too. Throughout the book though she is drooling over Ryder and that was the only constant.

Romance, well there is forbidden love hint in there. Ryder is a character from the Hitched series. He's a half demon and a young faculty member. I did not feel the connection between Luna and Ryder no matter how much "connection" there was. I was not feeling it. I have a good guess where this is leading towards

The blurb made it sound that there would be epic tension, bullying and some witty dialogue between the 7 and Luna. There wasn't much. Maybe, even romance between one of them and Luna. But none of that. Within few chapters they saw how speshul Luna was and she was good with them.

TBH I do like reading similar tropes. It is all how it is written and presented. This one just barely made any effort. Constant references to the bachelorette/Hitched show was a turn off for me. And FMC just made it worse. I don't think I will be continuing with this series!

Note: Darkblood Academy is set in the same world as Hitched. It takes place one year after the big reveal in Hitched, references the show, and has crossover characters. This book also contains spoilers for Hitched, so proceed accordingly.

Luna Hallows is a typical 18 year old. That is until Kimmie-Jayne, star of the hit reality show Hitched, shows up in her group home and tells her they’re half sisters and that Luna is half witch. Oh, and that she’s come to take her to Darkhen Academy in the heart of Winter Court.

It’s been one year since Hitched revealed to the world that supernaturals exist. By law, any half blood child is required to attend an academy to learn about their other side and nurture any latent powers.

Kimmie is the first halfblood to attend Darkhen, previously a haven for the ultra elite supes, and not everyone wants her there. But holy smokes, why did both the instructors and students have to be so agonizingly hot?

This was so fun! The author has definitely improved since the Hitched series. I love the plot lines weaving through this one. And I love seeing some of my favorite characters from Hitched return - Ryder, Cyllian, Fenex, Elrian and others. Can’t wait to continue through the series!

Darkblood Academy was one of those reads that was interesting but also left me feeling like something was missing. The very first chapter truly roped me into wanting to know more but the rest of the read lack depth.

Luna Hallows was put into the foster care system when her human mother didn’t want her after discovering her father is a powerful warlock. Prior to turning eighteen, she is visited by a reality star who turns out to be her half sister. She is whisked away to o Darken Academy aka Darkblood where she finds she is the first and only half human student.

At Darkblood Luna meets the Seven. Students with superior abilities who fight against the dark forces. Other students just leer at them from afar (reminiscent of Twighlight). Of course there is some romantic tension between Luna and just about everybody but Ryder, a staff member in particular. Luna’s romantic fickleness served as a major irritant to me.

One book isn’t enough for me to determine whether I am going to enjoy this series so I am going on to read the next book before I make up my mind.

What’s the point of this?

I know this is the first book in a relatively new world the author has created, but SERIOUSLY?!?!
There was too much going on with the plot and there was no real central mystery/conflict that was to be resolved. There’s so much sprinkled in here that I just don’t get where the author was going.
She finds out she’s supernatural... ok. But then suddenly her old life disappears and there’s no more mention of it, no trips to her old life, no reaching out to her supposed best friend or any anecdotes about the newly discovered sister? You’re telling me this boarding school doesn’t have weekend downtime where the families come to visit or they run back home to chill with mom and dad?
Her fickle magic that appears instinctively when she’s in active danger...? Without any real detail, she suddenly gets the hang of it and the magic appears at will to pass her exams?
We spent all that time with her and the unicorn and there’s no real bonding type thing where the animal saves her or allows her to complete a task?
Then there’s the lover’s angle.... yes, she’s been getting hot and heavy with the teacher but she gets vibes from the Elf prince or whatever he is?
Again, this book was too all over the place for me to enjoy.

Maybe nothing new in the YA genre, but I still enjoyed reading it. Magical school with lots of different supernaturals, both students and teatchers - what's not to like?! I actually liked ALL of the characters, even though I thought Luna sometimes acted a bit childish for her age (she's 18). Another thing that bothered me a little was all the descriptions of how gorgeous everybody was. I get that most supernaturals are good looking, but it gets tiresome to read it repeatedly.

There are some rather hot kissing scenes in the book. It works for me, but might not be for everyone. This is also some kind of spin off-series from Hitched by the same author, but I haven't read that and I didn't feel that I needed to in order to understand this book.

I would definitely like to continue reading this series - and maybe even Hitched! - and I appriciate getting an ARC from the author.

OMG! When I read that this was in the same world as Hitched another series by this author I just could not wait to read it cause Hitched was awesome and you know what? So is This!!! Well written we go to Darkhen academy with Luna, and an academy full of witches, shifters, fae and vampires, where the supernatural have come out to the world. A fast paced story full of adventure, magic, romance, mystery, hot supernatural guys and tons of action! Great characters old and new, I cannot wait for the next book!

Wow, just wow. This was amazing. I could not put the book down. It was so good to meet some of the known characters from “Hitched” and find out what they are doing after the show. I really like the mix with magic, demons, mean girls and love interest(s). The forbidden fruit makes it oh so sweet, but my heart lies with the fae prince with the lilac eyes. I can’t wait to see how mini minx, Luna, is getting full control of her powers and finds a way to get her love.

The MC was totally unlikable for me. Whiny as hell, has some TSTL qualities, the weird lusting after dudes is tired and boring in this genre. DNF 54% after I lost all interest in what happens to her.

I didn’t read the sister’s series so maybe readers who liked that one would be happier with this.

Darkblood Academy: Half-Blood is a young adult paranormal series that follows Luna, an eighteen year old girl whose life gets completely turned upside down in more ways than one when she discovers that she is a half-blood member of the supernatural community that recently came out of hiding thanks to reality television. I didn't read Hitched by the same author, but I liked the concept of modernizing the idea of hidden supernatural worlds being exposed through a means illustrated using the realities of today's society. This story does have supernaturals of all flavors, so I think readers of the paranormal will find at least one character they like, whether it's the dragon shifters, witches, demons, fae, werewolves, sirens, or vampires. Aspects of the book reminded me of The Vampire Academy. I felt like the horny teenage aspect of this book was a bit overdone (also extends to the adults). Yes, I get that the supes are all hot and some of them went through a reality dating show together, but it just got a bit too distracting from what I considered to be the focus of the book - Luna uncovering she's a half-blood with the potential to unlock a powerful magical legacy. Very enjoyable pace for readers. I recommend to those that appreciate good, young adult, supernatural academy books.

I received a copy of this book from the author.

I received a free copy for an honest review. I love how this series starts off. From the prologue, you get hooked into the story. Along with some new characters, there are some old friends from Hitched that you get to delve back into. The main character, Luna, is amazing. I fell in love with her curiosity and bravery. She gets thrust into a world she's only ever heard rumors about and she does a great job of trying to stay on her feet. But what great story comes without some roadblocks? She's faced with new friends, romance, adversity, betrayal, and heartache as she tries to navigate her new world. This is a must-read and I can't wait for more!!

I've been on a Paranormal Academy kick lately. However, after reading two pretty good Academy series back to back Hald-Blood didn't impress me in the slightest. I actually couldn't even finish it and DNF around 25%.

Our h is Luna. Luna is 18, human, an orphan, and about to graduate high school. We learn in the prologue that on the day Luna was born her mother didn't want her because of who and what her father is... a warlock. So the father, who is apparently super powerful, gives Luna to someone to be raised as a clueless human and then disappears from her life. Luna is completely in the dark about what she is and the paranormal world until Sups out themselves to the world.

And get this... they out themselves by a realty TV dating show similar to THE BACHELORETTE, called Hitched. One human woman dating 25 supernatural men.

-cringes-

You expect me to buy that supernatural beings are going to out themselves to the entire world by being on a reality TV dating show? So silly, cheesy, and unbelievable.

Totally ridiculous but okay.

So when a year after they out themselves the star of the show, the Bachelorette herself, -gasps- actress Kimmie Jayne, shows up at Luna's group home to confess that Luna is her half sister, are daughters of the current president (who is secretly a powerful warlock), and Luna is going to Darkblood Academy, I honestly didn't think this book could get anymore ridiculous.

Apparently Hitched is another series by the author and Darkblood Academy is a spinoff of that series. From my understanding you do not have to read the Hitched series to understand Darkblood Academy but I did feel slightly lost when characters from that series were constantly introduced.

My biggest issues:

1. The continuous mentions of Hitched. It felt like the reality TV show was mentioned every page. Honestly, I felt like the author was trying to promote the damn books in this series it was mentioned so much. And I found the premise of how the sups were outed and the idea of the dating show so cheesy.

2. All the super powerful males introduced or mentioned were ALL on Hitched and apparently Luna's sister is a super special human who all the powerful men fell in love with. There's her husband, the man she chose, the alpha dragon, leader of all the dragons. Then there's the headmaster of the Academy who is a drop dead gorgeous powerful angel who was the runner up on the show and clearly still has a thing for the sister. Of course there's Luna's love interest, Lucifer's son himself, her demon teacher who was on the show as well and clearly has a like for the sister as well. And we can't forget the Fae King.

They all were on her sisters show and all have a thing for her.

-rolls eyes-

Nothing like having the dude you pine for to have had a thing for your sister at one point. And honestly the fact that all these powerful supernatural men went on the supernatural equivalent to The Bachelorette is so laughable and takes their hotness factor down by a lot.

2. Luna is 18 but came across slightly juvenile. Even the ADULTS (this is a college) around her came across the same. It felt more like a bunch of 14 to 16 year olds. This included Ryder her demon combat teacher/love interest.

3. This kinda goes with number 3 in that the dialogue between characters seemed, again, juvenile and unbelievable for the ages of the characters.

4. Everything happened so fast and Luna takes it all in stride without finding the entire thing completely crazy and unbelievable. In less than 24 hours she finds out a reality TV star is her half sister, her dad is the president, her dad is a powerful warlock, she is a half blood and will likely have powers surface, she is leaving her home to go live at a supernatural Academy in another world, goes to the Academy, is introduced to her roommate (a dragon shifter), and the powerful elite 7 (the students who "rule" the school.)

Like, slow down.

5. Lastly, were the tropes. I don't mind the usual tropes used, especially in a YA/NA Academy series, I actually love them. BUT. They need to be done right, maybe with a fresh twist on it, or at least written in a way I'm not rolling my eyes or bored because I've read it a thousand times. In Half Blood the tropes were unfortunately cringe worthy.

So why didn't I give Half Blood one star? Well, I didn't finish it so it could possibly get better, the book just didn't catch my interest enough to finish and see. Also it isn't completely BAD, it's just not good. It's meh at best. I think a lot is because, like I mentioned above, I just read two really good Academy books so maybe my expectations are running high.

Whatever the case Half Blood just didn't do it for me.

The 7 seems to be the interesting story line.

6 stars!!! I freaking loved this book. Some how G.K. Derosa tapped into my head and gave me EVERYTHING I wanted in a paranormal romance. Luna was a strong willed, relatable character. She was curious of the supernatural community especially after the TV show Hitched aired. But little did she know she was going to become a part of that world shortly after the story begins. Brought to an Academy that teaches and trains paranormal beings Luna's world is about to be turned upside down.

I loved the world building in this book. And even though this is technically a spin off series, the book can be read by itself. I ended up loving this book so much that that I now see Hitched as a fun prequel that adds to the world building in all the best ways. I think it might be my favorite of GK Derosa's work.

The romance was amazing because even though there was an instant attraction from Luna (since the love intrest happens to be one of the previous Bachelors from the Hitched series) it was a really good slow burn. I ship this couple sooo hard.

Long story short: I loved the worldbuilding, character development, friendships and romance in this book. G.K. Derosa ran with the popular Academy theme I am addicted to and made it her own!!

(Again, I know I mentioned the Hitched series quite a bit, but it doesnt need to be read before this book...it just makes it that much more enjoyable 😍😍😍)

Luna has been fascinated by supernatural beings since their existence was revealed just last year when the human girl dated several on that show Hitched. When the star Kimmie-Jayne shows up at her home saying they are sisters, Luna is star struck as she watched the whole show. Kimmie-Jayne wants her to attend Darkhen Academy a school for supernaturals as they share the same supernatural father. Luna agrees to attend but little did she know she would be running into so many of the former Bachelors that had been courting her older sister.

The students of Darkhen Academy are broken into 7 groups. However, they don't have a human group at the school as she is the first. Thankfully Kimmie-Jayne's husband's little sister is attending and she will room with the dragon-shifters. Cinder is just what Luna needs and is quickly adopted by the dragons of the school. If only Luna can avoid drawing attention from The Seven who are the most powerful students in each group. Plus as if that's not hard enough her favorite guy from the show just happens to be her instructor and she's crushing hard. If she can avoid the demons after her she may just make it through the first year.

I loved Luna right from the start she reminds me a lot of how I would be if I was given the chance to attend a supernatural school. I have to admit that if we had a supernatural Bachelorette show I would have been equally hooked watching. I wasn't sure about The Seven but the more we get to know them the more I like them. I see a couple of possible love interests for Luna if she can get over her crush.

I've actually had Darkblood Academy on my wishlist for a while waiting for it to come out. I mean look at the cover the black unipeg is screaming my name. I didn't even read the synopsis just fell in love with the cover. I instantly was drawn into Luna's world and had to see how it was going to play out ended up finishing it in just under a day. Reading every chance I could. My only regret is that I wish I had read Hitched which is Kimmie-Jayne's story and plan to. I really enjoyed the authors writing style the story just flowed and I found myself getting lost in the beautiful story. The characters are easy to connect with they are all unique and just work so well in this captivating story.

Darkblood Academy just might be my new favorite read. I loved every single bit of it. I was sucked in from the very first page and didn’t want to put it down, so I didn’t. I ended up reading it all in less than a day, and I regret nothing. The only downside is now I want more.

While this book is a bit of a spinoff of G.K. DeRosa’s Hitched series in that it takes place in the same universe and has some crossover characters (my favorite being Ryder), it also stands on it’s own two feet and can be read without having read Hitched first—though you should because it’s awesome.

Darkblood Academy focuses on eighteen-year-old Luna, whose world gets turned upside down when she finds out she’s a half-blood, (half human, half supernatural), and though she has no powers to speak of, yet anyway, she’s taken to study at a school for supernaturals for her own safety. With the intrigue of The Seven, and the threat against Luna’s life unfolding, this book had me flying through the pages. The world building and character development was spot on. Luna is the perfect blend of spunky and relatable, making it impossible not to root for her from the very beginning, and the chemistry between her and Ryder… oh yeah, definitely perfect. I can’t wait for book two!

Disappointing

This book felt so disjointed. Almost like the author wasn’t clear on who her characters were or where she intended the story to go. It left so many questions because of it. Why Luna and not some other human half blood? Who is this Dark Lord? What’s up with dears old dad? Why hasn’t she tried to see her best friend at all? Why has her sister and husband completely fell from the storyline when they’re supposed to be building a relationship? Who is the love interest Ryder, Drake, both? Why is this an academy but we don’t learn much about it nor does she have much interaction with other students outside of the seven, Cinder and her friends. Why are her powers so flaky? It sort of feels like the author was just jumping on the academy storyline band wagon but wasn’t really sure what to do with it. Everything is so vague, so surface. I don’t know read it and you decide
