Court of Fae and Firelight #5

Calling of Her Court

Rate this book
Evil is coming, threatening to conquer all we hold dear… if we don’t destroy ourselves first.

Shiri
After escaping Queen Malvolia’s mad court and reuniting with my beloved twin sister, we have no choice but to flee to the Fallax Islands, deadly wyvern breeding grounds that could hold the key to our survival.

As we work out a plan to defeat the evil that threatens to destroy all of civilization, we also must heal the rift between our family, for we can’t battle external forces if we’re fighting amongst ourselves. There’s just one problem, I’m not sure I can reconcile with our parents after their deception and neglect.
And I doubt our mother will forgive Malvolia’s cruelty, or that Malvolia will forgive herself.

Tari
After escaping King Fachnan’s wicked court and reuniting with my dear twin sister, we uncover more shocking secrets at the Fallax Islands. Together, my family and I have the power to destroy the evil demon who threatens us, but first we must heal our fractured bonds.

How can we when my mate is demon-possessed? When I hold so much bitterness in my heart toward our parents who unwittingly gave me to a demon while separating me from my children? When my daughters cower in fear when their fathers are near? And when battling this demon and her army means risking my children’s lives?

Oh dear heavens, just WHAT are you doing to me Tara??? I thought I'd come undone in the previous books but Ms West tightened her screws around my heart, around my emotions and plunged me into a yo-yo of a ride!

Everyone has heard the phrase "Hell has no fury like a woman scorned" but what happens when it's the male that's scorned? Pure and utter devastation is what! This is a stunning continuation of this series, one where one cannot pinpoint who's at fault, one where the reason, though not by any means condoned, I understand. The scorned one, Thorin, has a whole lot of anger and hurt he's never been able to work through, all because of his fixation on a woman years earlier, one who didn't and couldn't love him the way he did her. So instead of putting his tail between his legs, dusting himself off, he does the unthinkable. He's delusional, he lies, cheats, manipulates and finally resorts to the ultimate, decimation, murder, from a heart so blacken by rage and revenge. Although I initially did feel his pain and had a lot of sympathy, that eroded big time throughout the series.

Not only is the drama unfolding between Shiri/Anya and her mates, there's another drama happening parallel between Radnor and Isa and whoa, I wasn't sure who's drama was more compelling! I love Tara mixing it up, giving me the sense that whether one is human or not, feelings, pain, anger and betrayal feel exactly the same for every species. And then Ms West turned it up again....The elation I felt with the bonding was huge, I couldn't stop smiling, this author sprinkles breadcrumbs along the way, expertly, getting my palette ready for what she's going to offer me next... like a new power perhaps, or a new drama. One thing is clear, Ms West has my undivided attention throughout the book! And when she started with the revelations, the memories coming back, geez, I was floored! And THEN when I got to Megaera and what she did, well geez, my eyes were as round as saucers! But Ms West wasn't done yet, my heart threatened to tear in two at the circumstances the twin found themselves in!

Of all the fated mates, Helian had every single fibre in me at his disposal, the heartache I felt for him at his situation was immense. So, yes, he was a douche bag but he's redeemed himself in my eyes, I mean, how many people have done the wrong thing for the right reason? As the reconciliations take shape, so too do the dangers rear their ugly head once more, an evil is still out there, an evil that needs to be stopped, an evil that it'll take all of them and more to defeat. Heaven help me but I wasn't prepared for what came next! Agog is what I was....

Shiri and Tari have reconciled, they're back together, they're the force that are predicted to defeat the demons but there's much to overcome first. It doesn't help when they are plagued by anger at their parents, the guilt they carry, the doubt they cannot relinquish, the kernel of jealousy that wants to grow. I absolutely love these two sisters! So completely different, so much both want to atone for, so much love that they hold, for each other, for their mates and for the most adorable little girls, Aurora and Ember. I couldn't help give a sigh of contentment to see how the bonds between them all were strengthening, the love solidifying, the acceptance of past deeds. This gorgeous, steamy, sexy, action aplenty, both of the physical and emotional kind, and highly immersive read is told from various POVs, the insight into each "head and thoughts" so compellingly captivating, getting to the crux of each personality and relishing how unique they are, getting a clear view of what makes them tick. And goodness me, this author's supreme skill has me twisted up in all sorts of emotional trauma! The true beauty of this story is just how much redemption is a part of life, that even though it looks as though there is no coming back, there are second chances to be had, all one has to do is reach out and grasp it. The rich characters, be they "evil", misguided or remorseful, be they human or Fae or dragon or satyr, the telling, the interwoven complexity gave me unbridled please in the discovery.

Lest you think this is a simple tale, it's not. There are many cogs in this glorious tale, each one well oiled, each one working in sync with the rest, finely tuned, the mechanics of the story a work of art! Oh is the redemption thread BIG! That's what I love about Tara's books, she takes a character, turns them into the vilest of the vile and then allows them to claw their way back to sanity, to understanding, taking the reader on the deadliest, most intense yet yummy ride of their life. I felt as though a tornado had snatched me up, REALLY tossed me around like a rag! From scorn, to misunderstanding, to revenge, to demons, to dragons, magic and forgiveness, absolutely stunning! With only one more book to bring this series to a close, I know Ms West will put the screws in, toss me all over the place and finally deposit me on a tranquil beach, calm, magnetically peaceful and an all encompassing feeling of being sated, fulfilled and very content with the outcome. I just have to get there, I just HAVE to get that final book

As with all of the books in this series, Tara has brought another rollercoaster of emotions, drama, twists and turns. And she does it while the story accelerates through all of the events without losing any of its charm (or addictiveness).

I’m so addicted to this series, and now it’s time to move onto the final book…and I don’t want to…well I do because I cant wait to see how everything turns out…but then I don’t because then it’s over and what else am I going to read?? I am so invested in these characters and don’t want to say goodbye!

Anyway, onto the potentially spoiler bit!

So this book starts with Isa and Radnor. I was shocked to realise Radnor knew about the mind spinning back when it first started. But he was a caring dragon back then, with a mate and a hatchling. At first I was screaming, “why hasn’t he told them”, and “he didn’t believe Tari about the Naraka”. Then I was devastated when I realised his memories had been altered too and it all explained his distain and distrust of everyone…and his cranky nature!

I was fed up of the bullying behaviour towards Helian, especially coming from his brothers who he saved countless times. And then the way Tari was rather heartless towards him…although he was the one who kept telling her in the first books to “harden her heart”. But after everything they went through together, she should have given him a chance to explain everything. Instead Helian was broken and a shadow of his former self for the first half of the book. Which was heartbreaking in itself!

Finding out Isa and Triss were alive was a relief. Isa had every right to be upset with Radnor, but how can he defend his actions when his memories remain altered? But I’m glad their relationship was mended by the end of the book…at least to the point she wasn’t chasing him away.

And Arabellas character arc was amazing, how it took Ember and Aurora being in danger before she became a decent person, and showed she had a heart. I’m sure there’s a long way to go before Empusa disappears…that’s if she disappears. But I think Arabella is the character who has surprised me the most.

For someone who has been held captive for 23 years, Marius seems to be quick to defend Malvolia. And the fraught truce between Malvolia and Flora doesn’t seem like it is going I end well. But at least they are on the same side for now. I’m sure there is more drama to come, especially since Tari and Shiri are headed that way!

Thorin and Viggo definitely got what they deserved…although hopefully there will be enough of Thorin left for Tari to get justice!

And the funniest part was when Nox thought he had the upper hand, then Ember started reeling off all of the information they needed regarding the book of spells and the demons names. It would have been great to see things from Noxs POV at that moment in time!

Buckle up folks, this was a rollercoaster of emotion and adventure/chaos. In Calling of Her Court, we learn more about the Crimson Tide and how it evolved into the chaotic mess it now is, including being introduced to Radnor's mate, Isa, prior to Thorin mind spinning everyone. I think the prologue alone is a wild twist to an already incredibly strong curse, and it really pulls a lot of details together to answer open questions. Isa is certainly a very stubborn force to be reckoned with; she neither forgets nor forgives easily. Like with Isa, we also get to experience Flora reuniting with Malvolia, and boy does she hold a grudge as well (rightfully so in this case).

I've been sympathetic to Tari throughout the books, but in the first part of the book, I was really frustrated with her. She had a lot of internal battling of emotions and thoughts, which caused her to appear whiny and heartless at times. She was pissed at Helian, wouldn't let him explain anything, but then also pined for him. I think this made things more complicated than they need to be, but alas, I was left yelling at the pages for better communication between them. Like dragon, like witch in terms of their stubborn pride. I get guarding her heart and treating him as if she'd rather him dead, but then wanting him - you can't have your cake and eat it too. Similarly, I found Helian to be a pathetic shell of his former self in the first half of this book. It almost seemed to be a completely different character at times.

On a positive note, I still love Shiri and her mates. My heart broke as she rides the wave of grief when her nieces are reunited with their parents. After being their mother for four years, she is depressed at losing them, while also happy to see them reunited. Ember continues to be my favorite with her blunt surprise statements from her "friends." I can just tell her knowledge is going to help turn the tables in the final book. The last few chapters had quite an interesting character arc and I look forward to seeing how that progresses in book six.

I used the Kindle feature called Recaps (which, unfortunately only seems to appear on my Paperwhite, not on my Kindle Fire) I did note one mistake: Both sisters have children: Sheri is raising her nieces, Aurora and Ember, while Tari has twin daughters of her own. WRONG! These are the same two children, not four different ones. Now Tari is pregnant with a third child fathered by Helian, a different mate than the fathers of the twins.

I was curious about Flora and Derrick’s seeming disappearance as they aren’t mentioned being in Fallax. It seemed in Book 4 that they wanted to rescue Marius and although it isn’t actually stated, it appears that may be where they went. I strongly dislike Flora and she absolutely refuses to forgive Malvolia, her twin, despite finding out Malvolia’s actions were because of the mind spinner. It doesn’t appear that Flora holds herself nearly as accountable even though the same mind spinner had her give her daughter to a man who was demon possessed (and an attempted rapist) Real great mothering there, Flora. Oh, and favoring one twin over the other is also not a plus in your favor.

Minor error:
Most of the group left for the Fae lands. Sheri partnered with Blaze and Drae. Nikkos and Finn stayed behind with the twins.
Chapter 21 (When confronted by the centaurs)
”Though Blaze and Nikkos were prepared to burn the place to the ground.” Should be Blaze and Drae.

(When arriving at the beach where Fachnan's dragon riders had settled)
Blaze and Nikkos snapped open their wings, flames extending from their hands. Again this should be Blaze and Drae.

So much happens in this book that it’s no wonder the author needs to write another to wrap things up. The demons haven’t begun to be vanquished and it turns out the twin little girls are going to be more essential for this to happen than one would think. Their aunt and mother may be white witches but these kids are no slackers.

I am so in love with this story!!!
This books so fast paced, like a crazy roller coaster ride!!! I loved it!! I understand why you needed an extra book to complete the series. The characters go thru so much and the bad ones are intensifying their attacks trying to finally be able to defeat the white witches. Maegara is such a great character to hate and now she wants to get Empusa to help her. It was great to see Arabella grow a little humanity and to see what is happening to Thorin. I have no words to call Selig without revealing the plot, lol. I'm sick and tired of Flora, I really don't like her and she is behaving like a baby when she should be working with her sister no matter what happened, I also think some people (not gonna say names because of huge spoilers) were forgiven too easily, but love does what it does. Oh, and I am so so so happy about Radnor😍😍😍 There are so many little details that I want to talk about but I really don't want to spoil anything. You need to read this series!!!!

I love this series and having been eagerly awaiting this book and it did not disappoint! We literally hit the ground running and it does not let up as we jump back on this exciting and thrilling rollercoaster ride filled with action and adventure. An intriguing and captivating continuation of this incredibly addictive series as the author once again weaves their magic and draws us back into this amazing world. Our characters have been through so much but they pick themselves up and keep on going despite what is thrown in their path and the bad guys, well they are just plain evil and are stepping up their game to try and defeat the good guys. There’s danger, there’s drama, there’s lies and there’s betrayal, that along with some surprises and twists and turns has you on the edge of your seat, hooked and unable to put this down.

Tari and Shiri have been reunited but the war is far from over. They each have three mates which are their greatest help.

Aurora and Ember (Tari, Ash and Finn's twin daughters) have become very grown up at such a tender, young age. The way they fight against the fear to do everything needed of them is endearing.

The demon Queen is rallying her army and trying to take over all the lands now. She is capturing and destroying everything in her path.

Will the white witches and their family be able to fight the demon queen? Will they all survive the darkness that is threatening to consume them? You must come and read this incredible story with amazing characters and wonderful world building to find these answers and so much more.

Ok, this book, WOW…. To the author Tara, what have you done to me, I need the last book now…. Can’t wait to know the ending of such a great story!

This book was a great blend of the author leaving enough wonder and awe, but also frustration (in a great way), along the journey you are taking while reading this series!! This book was fast paced but not difficult to follow!

There were some great hold on moments, that meant you had to know what’s next! Your ability to have us readers drawn into the characters, feel love, anger, compassion and frustration all at the same time, all well waiting to know what happens with Tari and Shiri, their mates and children, as well as many other characters throughout the book! The mind spinner has gotten to everyone and left them with incorrect memories. In doing this everyone believes the sister of Queen Malvolia wants her throne and started a war.

Now, as many of those involved are getting their memories back, the truth is coming out. With the twins together with most of their mates, they will work together to get the kingdom back together.

This story has many small stories within. It keeps you entertained throughout. This was supposed to be the ending, but again there is a cliffhanger. The story hasn't ended yet. Can't wait.

I highly recommend this story. You must read all in this series for continuity.

This is the fifth book in this series. This book starts with Radnor and his mate Isa as they are preparing for their hatchling to arrive. We learn more about the mind spinner and that he can also affect dragons. After Helion's father, King Fachnan, was killed, Anya, Shirina, all the mates, and Anya's twin daughters escape. All the dragons and riders abandon Caldaria. They all join together to work towards healing their family and the kingdoms. There is so much more, but I don't want to spoil it. This book, like the four previous ones, had great characters and a compelling storyline. I am looking forward to the final book in this series.

A lengthy, much to my delight, content-rich addition and even more exciting that is was not the last. It was an intriguing and compelling continuation that had me in a reading trance. The anguish of Shiri loosing the children to their parents, but also the happiness that they where all united. Radnor and Isis's stubbornness to reconcile. Helian was a real lout being possessed and Arabella pulled a surprise. Flora was a tad immature and unforgiving. Do read the book asap as I'm not spilling the beans. The glossary at the end was an formative refresher.

Calling of Her Court

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I love the concept of Tara West “Calling of Her Court,” it was very well written and thought out. I love how in this book by Tara West we meet back up with the gang right after Radnor rescued Helian from Queen Malvolia and Malvolia realized that the mind spinner had messed with her mind to make her believe that her twin sister was out to get her. Now Tari and Shiri have to face their biggest challenger yet but are they ready for it? I guess that you will have to read Calling of Her Court to find out what happens.

Great story. Shiri and Tari are together with their three mates and Tari's daughters. Tari has trouble connecting with the girls and Shiri forgets at times that Tari is their mother. Shiri and Tari are determined to find the demon sorceress and stop the demons. Flora and Malvolia are together and they are trying to work out a way to stop the demons. They expect Shiri and Tari to show up and help. This book is full of intrique, danger, hot chemistry between the couples and it all ends in a cliff-hanger. I look forward to reading the final book.

Another great addition to the Court of Fae and Firelight series. I really enjoyed finally having a book where Tari and Shiri were reunited. Tara West did a wonderful job of moving the book back and forth between the 2 sisters and occasionally the other characters. I for sure thought this would be the final book but I’m glad she didn’t just slap the ending on. There are just too many situation that need resolving and I can't wait for the final battle. Three generations of powerful twin witches, fire mages, shifters, fae, dragons, wyverns, and more, it’s just such a captivating story that Tara West is weaving.

Get ready, because this will capture your attention right away and keep you on your toes!
What an emotional roller-coaster for sure. The danger and action doesn't stop! It was filled with so many twists and turns, revelations, betrayal, and lies.

Our main characters have gone on such a crazy journey. There were times I kept wondering whether they were ever gonna catch a break. Then, nope...something else happens.
We do see a little growth in some, a bit of redemption, and then we see love and hope.

Fantastic continuation so far! I can't wait till the next book!!

HOLY MOLY!

I am just in AWE of this series. The world that Tara West built just continues to grow, the characters are so beautiful, and the couples finally all finding their happiness...sigh!

While this book was I thought going to be the final book in the series, it looks like there might be one more coming down the line. But this story continues Shari and Tani’s journey to grow their White Witch powers and defeat the REAL enemy – the demon mistress.

This series has been just wonderful to read and I cant wait to see what happens in the next book to see how it all ends!

This book was amazing. No hate but I feel like Tari is the main character. I feel like the spicy scenes for Shiri and her mates was a bit too much. Helian got a little better but I feel like he brags too much ( like he just announces " my mate and family" it feels eeh) and he thinks that cause he's 'crown prince of Caldaria' everyone will fall at his feet like does he know his father. I was disappointed that this wasn't the last book but everything seriously couldn't have been resolved in it. Can't wait to finish the series.

Wow, this book. This book blew me away and I could not put it down no matter waht. It mvoes along at a pace that is just perfect for the flow of this story. Speeding up and slowing down when needed. The characters are so real that you feel as though you know them and you feel what they are going through. You want to be there for them no matter what. This book has to be read, there is no doubt about it. It is a must read that needs to be at the top of your TBR list, no doubt about it.

this book was so good!!!! it kinda felt dragged out though (hence the 4-star rating) but other than that I loved it. I especially loved the groveling that needed to be done by Helian AND Radnor. And although I can see where she's coming from Flora needs to tone it the hell down with all this nonsense. but other than those little tidbits the rest of the book was perfect and interesting.

I received this book as an ARC, thank you to Tara West and BookSirens for the book 😘

I can’t believe this series isn’t done yet! I don’t know how much more my heart can take huhu this was one of the most gripping tales and I absolutely love it! There are so many truths unraveling and too many emotions being laid out in this one book that’s about to close the entire series. I adore the character development, but not gonna lie, some characters I truly despise. All in all a great book!

This book fills in a lot of the holes of the storyline. I wish I could give half stars. I would technically rate this as 3.5 ⭐

I think there was so much going on in the story that the characters started feeling a bit flat and predictable. You get a POV from practically every character throughout the book probably because there are a lot of pieces of the plot that need backstory and context.
