From a New York Times bestselling author and a Theodor Seuss Geisel Award–winning illustrator, a playful story about finding common ground when you least expect it.
Blue-footed boobies live on one rock. Red-footed boobies live on another. Blues and Reds keep apart…until one day a pair runs into each other and falls in love. Their families don’t approve. Silly boobies! But when something wonderful happens, can everyone finally agree?
Cute but could have been better. It had a great chance to explain judging by appearances or clan mentality, but didn't capitalise on it. The result is sweet but half-baked.
I really liked that this story was about loving someone no matter what they looked like or what others thought.
I felt the story was a bit rushed and underdeveloped however. The story felt a little cold as well, missing that warm fuzzy feeling you get when reading a kids book.
It took about 5 minutes to read and had so many missed opportunities for really touching on the non-discrimination part (the birds have either red or blue feet and stick to their own kind).
So, it was an ok read for me, I wouldn’t read it again.
When this book showed up in “first reads” I absolutely had to get it. It’s sort of a riff on Romeo and Juliet except with a happy ending. This thing made me smile throughout and I think kids (and kids at heart) will love this story with its colorful and adorable illustrations. I also liked the little notes at the end about the different kinds of boobies. Highly recommended.
This book is so stinkin' cute, AND has an amazing message!
I read this cute story about a blue footed boobie falling in love with a red footed boobie to my three kiddos, and they loved it! Not only is the story great, but the illustrations are fantastic. What fun!
Thank you, NetGalley, and Two Lions for an advanced copy of Silly Boobies in exchange for an honest review. We loved it and I've already recommended it to several friends with kids.
This is a free Prime selection for the month. I finished the book a few minutes ago and I am still smiling. It is a cute picture book featuring red footed boobies and blue footed boobies who do not get along, until romance enters the scene. The illustrations are great. This quick book is educational, because it explains a bit about real boobies and their habits. I am a birdwatcher and I also enjoy reading picture books to children. It is a win-win. 5 stars
A delightful children's picture book! It is available as one of the two free Kindle choices that you get on Prime First Reads for July. It is adorable!
Free First Reads | Sweet, but short | I expected about five more pages, and I think as it is, it wouldn't become a regular read for Kiddos, because it wouldn't be memorable enough for them to ask for it. But it is sweet and the artwork is strong, cheerful and bright, with enough to look at on the page for developing brains, but not too much.
This is such a silly and fun book about acceptance- a value that every human needs to learn. The illustrations are very simple, and I loved the balance between the pictures and the text. At the end, the book also features some extra information with pictures of boobies (they're actual birds and I didn't know that before reading this), so that's interesting for kids too. 100% recommend for kids as young as babies.
I loved this book. It's just so much fun to say boobies! The blue footed boobies didn't like the red footed boobies and vice versa. But the these two fell in love, kind of Romeo and Juliette, but with a much happier ending! Perfect for children to learn that just because somebody is different, it does not mean they are any better or worse than you. Be kind! Loved the illustrations.
Thank you very much to netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!
Delightful! A retelling of Romeo and Juliet with boobies. The art is great, the wise old hermit crab is hilarious, and the message is clear - don't judge others because they are different from you.
There's a meet cute when the two boobies run into each other while reading, and the crab performs the wedding ceremony "thanks to a certificate he got on the internet." (Hahaha!)
Seriously, this could spark a great conversation about getting along.
An adorable children’s picture book about discrimination and love. I loved that our main boobies were readers. The illustrations are cute and colorful. While the story isn’t too new to me, it’s still a great lesson for children. The end has some real facts about red and blue footed boobies, as well as other species. I hadn’t even realized there were red footed boobies.
Silly Boobies a Love Story. OMG! This book is so adorable! Not only that, but the smart birds are book readers. Woo! Hoo! They teach all of us a valuable lesson that one group is the same as their neighbors.
An adorable story about not judging a book by its cover and love despite differences. Silly Boobies is a humerous and wholesome story perfect for the whole family
I received Silly Boobies: a Love Story, by Ame Duck man from the Prime Benefits Program.
It is a fun children's book about two types of Boobies, the red footed and the blue footed that didn't socialize with one another. Then a red footed and blue footed boobie became friends, mated and had a purple footed boobie. All families became friends because of this child. So many lessons for teaching social skills.
I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher, for which I thank them.
“Silly Boobies: A Love Story” is by Ame Dyckman and illustrated by Christopher Weyant. This is a children’s book with adorable color illustrations. On it’s surface, this is a book about one of my favorite birds - the Boobies (both red and blue). A red footed boobie and a blue footed boobie meet and decide to marry - getting flack from both families for this oddness. Amusingly, when they have a baby - both sets of boobies want to claim their baby as theirs (and wisely, the parents say “It’s ours!”). Yes, one can dig deeper - and I’m sure a lot of adult readers will (and maybe some of the slightly older kids too). If I had grandchildren, I’d’ve gotten this book for the illustrations alone … and it’s about Boobies, such an under represented bird in my very biased opinion. Now, if you look at it logically (boo! hiss!), red footed and blue footed boobies do not mate for a variety of reasons (although how amazingly cool would a purple footed boobie be?) - but that’s really my logical brain getting in the way of a good cute story. I do wish that my other favorite boobie (masked!) had made an appearance - but maybe that’ll be the next book. I would’ve preferred that a Sally Go Lightly crab had been there instead of a hermit crab - but this may not have taken place on the Galapagos Islands, so I’ll give Ms. Dyckman a pass there. Put politics aside - and “wokeness” aside if possible … it’s a cute short children’s book with incredible illustrations and a cute story.
💙 My mom is a huge bird lover/photographer, so I was aware of boobies before I saw this book. But once I saw the title and the terrific boobies on the cover, I knew I had to read it. It’s just too funny!
❤️ This adorable book delivers a great message – being different (like red-footed vs blue-footed boobies) doesn’t mean we can’t love and accept each other and sometimes it just takes a couple of brave boobies to make a big difference!
💙 Plus, the boobies in the book like to read! LOVE THAT!
❤️ To prove that adults can learn something from reading children’s books, here is what I learned from this one. First, I learned that a group of Boobies is called a congress, which seems appropriate. 😊 I also learned that the name Booby comes from the Spanish word bobo which means clown or foolish. Now you know too!
💙 I can’t recommend this book enough. It is absolutely delightful, silly, fun, packed with boobies, and it has a great message! Seriously, it’s kinda perfect!
Thank you @netgalley and Two Lions for sending me an eARC of this book, which I have read and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
The blue-footed boobies nested on the ground on their rock, the red-footed ones, on shrubs and small trees on theirs. Would it even be possible for the boobies to get along, to meet in the middle on the little rock inhabited by the wise hermit crab?
By accident, a nerdy red booby bumps into an erudite blue booby while each has their nose in a book. They make eye contact…look into each other's eyes. They would gain a lot of love if they both give a little…when I start flying your way and you start flying mine.
This delightfully funny picture book will create laugh out loud moments as the expressive hermit crab encourages the blue and red congresses of boobies to mingle. The full saturation colorful artwork is rendered in an uncomplicated simple style. Fun facts include booby courtship rituals such as dancing (raising and showing off their feet) and exchanging sticks. True love can prevail! Highly recommended for the little ones.
Thank you Two Lions and Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Especially when O thought I was talking about something else, he never heard of Boobies the pretty birds with a big blue beak and blue feet!!!!! (one of the Boobies has red feet in this book) They are so pretty.
There are 2 kinds of boobies Now one has blue-footed boobies and they live on one rock. The red-footed boobies live on another rock. Now, the Blues and Reds are kept apart…...until one day a pair runs into each other and falls in love. WoW.....a love story in the making!
