Mountains, Meadows, and Moonbeams is one of the most useful children's books ever written. Mary Summer Rain believes that "It is our spiritual responsibility to ensure that each child's understanding of the truths is as comprehensive as possible." Here is a simple, delightful, easy-to-read book, full of illustrations for coloring, which will help parents nuture the imagination and creativity of their children, and help the children understand where we all came from and who we, as human beings, really are.
Mary Summer Rain is a naturalist philosopher and prolific author whose lyrical writing and deep insight have inspired generations. Best known for her works on nature, dream symbolism, feminine spirituality, and prophecy, she brings clarity to complex subjects. Her novel Ruby was a finalist for the New Age Retailers 2005 Narcissus Award, and she appeared on NBC’s Ancient Prophecies. Mary lives in the Rocky Mountains, sharing a woodland cabin with rescue dogs and a crow named Merlin.
What a beautiful treasure this book is. I cannot wait to share it with each of my children. This is quickly going to become a permanent fixture at bedtime reading.
Despite such cool topics for kids as clairvoyancy/telepathy/psychokinesis/and healing- we found ourselves replacing the word God for universe on nearly every page- (only becuase it got a bit "heavy") Ide love to find another book similar to this-(topic) my son loved the stories on faries ,gnomes and pixies - the graphics were so low quality- the experiments w/ healing and out of body experiences were fun!
I had a secret wish while reading this book: that my parents would have taught me everything in this book at a very young age, so that by now I could master spirituality. I guess its not that big of a secret. Too, this book receives an extra pat on the back because the you can color all of the pictures in the book.
1.5 stars There is some good information in this book. It explains spiritual concepts in a manner that would make it easy to understand for a kid (probably ages 6-8) However, it’s marketed as new age and spiritual, and a lot of the messages and wording is very abrahamic religion leaning. You could exchange the word god for universe and most of it would be okay. But there is a section that say “if we want to return to being with God we have to be pure” and as someone deconstructing their religious trauma, it rubbed me the wrong way.
The sections about psychic abilities and spiritual protection are pretty good. Very useful to teach a child to protect themselves in the spirit world. The section on nature spirits is a good primer, but misses a lot imo.
I think this is a great book for kids whose parents are members of the pagan church. It explains a great many things about the beliefs on a level that children can understand. However, I would not suggest to use it as a substitute for talking about it to one's children when in this situation, as communication with children is key.

I actually have one of the original copies of this, not professionally printed and bound. I'm not sure if it was edited at all before being officially published, but it was a good book to read to children. Definitely up there with The Little Soul and the Sun by Neil Donald Walsh.
