Cali falls in love, fast and hard. It’s intense, emotional, and then he is gone.
This is what happens when you give your heart to a man who lives recklessly.
Months pass and she finds herself falling again. This time will be different, but there’s something about this man that feels familiar. Something about him that makes her feel safe. He’s not the love she lost but he is someone who makes her feel alive. Someone who makes it easier to smile, to breathe, to exist.
Is it possible to love so deeply twice in a lifetime?
War lives life with no regrets. The streets are his world, his love, his existence. One bad move is attached to a guilt so heavy, the only thing he can do is walk away. He makes a promise to keep her safe, to make sure she doesn’t fall, but he never expects that he will be the one falling…for her.
Guilt this strong is weighted and now betrayal is added because he’s in love with the wrong woman.
What a tangled web love weaves, but anything worth having doesn’t come easy…or at least that’s what they say, right?

Imagine being so hopelessly in love with a man, that when he’s taken away from you it shatters your world. You were tucked away perfectly and securely and his selfishness wouldn’t allow him to share you with anyone else in his world. You didn’t truly know anything about this man, I mean not a friend or family the first. To the average woman this may seem swoon worthy and romantic but to a THINKING woman, 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩. Well Cali wasn’t a thinking woman 😂 or maybe she was and simply chose to be oblivious to the secrets that her deceased lover had! I mean after all, even from the grave, he ensured her utmost protection and that she was well taken care of.
Now imagine being the one tasked to take care for a beautiful woman after losing the closest person to you. Everything is telling you to steer clear but watching and providing for this woman from afar has only increased your level of desire for her. This situation may be giving forbidden but sometimes we follow the desires of the heart and say to hell with what a situation may look like to others.
War was determined to be whatever Cali needed, whenever she needed it. And if he couldn’t provide whatever it was, he’d task whomever with filling in the gaps. I absolutely adored War and the way he cared for not only Cali but her sister Connor. These two sisters weren’t dealt the best hand in the parental department and as a result were fkd up and definitely had their fair share of trauma. War never judged and he never made them feel less than because of their past!
KC really has had her foot on our necks in the literary world lately and it’s all good because I don’t even wanna come up for air!
Whew.... I held off on reading this one right away, as I knew it would make me feel. Well, I was not at all prepared for this here!
Cali's life started out rough, but she had an okay upbringing kinda. She lacked love, and affection from her parents, that caused her to crave it. She wants to feel love and be loved. When she experiences it, she is all in, and consumed by the feeling, good or not. Meeting a man who gave her attention, care, "that" feeling made her fall hard and fast. However, it also put her blinders on. She never asked questions, or questioned why they lived in a bubble away from the world. Not babe, why haven't I met you parents, friends, nothing? The relationship was over just as quickly as it started, and he was gone. 💔
War! This man was that 🥷🏾! 😍 Feared and respected in the community, while taking care of his family and various businesses. His only goal was to look out for her, make sure he was good, and before he knew it, he had fallen into the Cali trap. Cali had that "it" factor! She was able to pull these street dudes down to their knees. 😂 The way War cared for, supported, protected, and loved Cali was beautiful. He was going to make sure that she had any and everything she wanted in life that made her happy. Even extending that favor to her sister Connor. Who was a whole trip by the way! 😂
Different yes, unconventional maybe, but the love that War and Cali shared was like no other. You just had to root them on because they just felt right, and you wanted them to win. Loved this K.C. Bravo! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Imagine loving a man so hopelessly that you stick your head in the sand and purposely ignore all of the red flags two piecing you in your face. Said man puts you up in an apartment and doesn’t take you out on a single date the entire time y’all were together. But, that’s okay because you love him. Said man doesn’t introduce you to his friends or a single member of his family. But, again, that’s okay because you love him. Said man doesn’t buy you flowers, thoughtful gifts, or romance you at all. But, that’s okay because, say it with me, you love him. When it came to Merritt, Cali refused to the acknowledge the elephant in the room and chose to live in oblivion. She knew one day Merritt’s lifestyle would be the death of him and, unfortunately for Cali, the very thing she worried about became her reality.
War is goin’ through it. He’s grieving the death of his cousin who was really more like a brother and he’s in love with his dead cousin’s girlfriend. It would be much easier to reign in his feelings for Cali if he could just stand on the sidelines and admire her from afar. But, in the event of his death, Merritt wanted War to make sure Cali was taken care of. Which means, his proximity to her just got much closer than he would prefer. The tug of war between guilt and desire is weighing heavy on War but, when he decides loving Cali is worth the risk, he doesn’t give a damn what anyone thinks. Beautiful Haze was a beautiful forbidden romance. I loved the way War protected and loved Cali. He made sure she and Connor had everything they needed. Considering how the Jordan sisters didn’t have the best up bringing, that’s exactly what they both needed. Love, assurance, and support. I sure hope KC spins the block and gives us a book on Connor and York. They definitely have somethin’ and I need to see it come to fruition.
Ehh this one dragged to me. At about 50% I was bored. Cali was a kept woman that jumped into relationships blindly...yearning to be loved in a way her parents were unable to. Despite knowing she needed to be a little more cautious in her next relationship, she chose to entertain War just as quickly. He felt familiar and safe to her. Yet...she didn't ask any questions. War was supposed to be looking after her, but somehow became enamored with her. He was lying by omission, keeping big secrets from her that may sway her decisions about them as a couple. All that build up for an anticlimactic outcome. I was just underwhelmed with how everything played out with the secrets being revealed. War swore Cali was different, but honestly she gave basic. I didn't feel like she gave off any type of special energy which just made me question their connection. Overall it was aight.
You need to read this book. Okay, well it's actually six initial words. But, you catch my drift. I am going to keep it real, War was nothing like his namesake. He was not a threat unless you initiated the act. He moved with a hoodregalness. I did not have an issue with his actions and pursuit of Cali. Cali was another story, I wanted her to wake up and smell the roses. Her man loved her kinda, but I rebuke his kind of love. It's all me or nothing. Anyway, War gave Cali what Merritt refused to give her, you know, his honesty and profound love. I am glad I did not have to deal with Merritt's adlibs for too long in this story. War more than made up for dude's shortcomings. And this story is yet another reason why I choose to stick with great storytelling. I am always satisfied at the end... Pun intended.
This book was so Motherfudgesicklestix good 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.
This was my ARC review… Author K. C. Mills has done it again…
Marcus and Merritt were phuck boys to the core. When the truth came out about Marcus, I wasn't surprised at all, and I'm glad York gave that bih what he deserved🤷🏾♀️. I hate what happened to Merritt, but I'm thankful that his death brought Cali a love she never saw coming. Cali was in a dark place after the loss of her guy. Then while visiting his grave on her birthday she was offered a chance to allow a sexy a** stranger take her mind off of the hurt and her day brighter. That one day changed her life for the better, had her questioning everything about her relationship with her guy. She realized that what she had with him was a situationship that lasted longer than it should have. War had me invested from the beginning with his dominate yet calm personality. That man exuded BDE and everything that comes with being with a man of his caliber. I was disappointed he waited so long to tell Cali who he was, but I also understood that he wanted her attachment to him to be organic, and not because of who he was connected to. That man was intentional with his pursuit of Cali, and protected her in every way possible. He and Cali helped each other heal from the loss of Merritt. I thoroughly enjoyed their journey❤️ I had a feeling Neece was some how involved with what happened to Merritt even if she didn't intentionally set him up, her trying to get back at him for the ish she allowed him to do to her, cost them all to lose someone they loved😢 I loved Conner ❤️. Even when she was irritating my nerves by staying with that Phuck boy. We truly can't help who we fall in love with, especially if we've never truly experienced true unconditional love as a child. I hate that it took him threatening to harm her sister for her to walk away, but thankful she finally choose herself. Although she gave Cali a hard time about therapy, she finally started taking the steps to heal from her childhood and adulthood trauma. York is for her, and I would love to read their story👀👀👀
This was such a good book. Cali purposefully buried her head in the sand and ignored every sign thst her man was hiding something. When he's gone, she's left broken and empty. Enter War, he's dude's cousin and the person tasked with watching Cali after he's gone. From afar, War is infatuated with Cali but soon he has Cali up close and personal. Problem is War is keeping secrets that threaten his budding relationship. When everything comes out their HEA is threatened. Great story! Good subplots too with Cannon and man.
I just want to say K.C Mills wrote some of my favorite books. I wanted to like Cali and War as characters but I did not like them. I didn’t really care if they stay together or not at the end of the book. I didn’t care for Cali sister either.
Beautiful Haze was just that Beautiful. I may be biased because KC Mills has become one of my favorite authors. Her ability to tell a story is top tier.
Completed this in one day. War was everything! Confident and bold. I didn't agree with how he handled things but he never left things unsettled. Now please don't leave Conners story untold. I'm so excited!
KC Mills has become one of my favorite authors and I honestly really enjoyed this book. I liked Calli and War together, and even though I don't like the idea of dating an ex's family member, you couldn't help but root for them.
War was an interesting character, I feel like I had a love/hate relationship with him the entire story. I liked that he was strong and protective and seemed to really care for Calli, and was willing to give her space and time and understanding. And that loving her meant loving her sister and how he invited them both into his world and cared for them. He never tried to clip her wings or keep her hidden like his cousin did, and never tried to keep her from working or doing what's best for her. He was loyal and a rider and a decent guy (to her) truly.
But I didn't always like how he moved and treated people. I thought he was really unfair for how he treated Merrit's BM. I just don't agree that it was her fault. Putting the weight of his death on her, like she was apart of the plan and set him up was unfair. Shaming her for sleeping with another man bc she was pregnant like Merrit wasn't cheating and didn't have Calli on the side WHILE SHE WAS PREGNANT is WILD. Yes he was an "op" in the sense that he was from the other family, but she didn't know he meant them harm. And in the grand scheme of things, what the BM did was no different than what his sister did. The only difference is the sister wasn't being used. Like he really was so uncaring towards her, even down to him being on the birth certificate to have control and having the baby DNA tested. Like I get it, but she has a right to feel some type of way about it. He really treated her bad even though from what we can see from the story she wasn't really a bad person, at least no more than his damn cousin who everybody agreed did what he wanted, lived recklessly and treated women dirty.
I liked Calli as a character and I thought the adoptive parents thing was an interesting addition that I wish we got to see in more detail but I also felt like Calli was too accepting too quickly. It's like she didn't really learn her lesson like we're supposed to believe. You find out the War was hiding who he was and it only took a day to get over it. Don't get me wrong, I wanted them to get thru it but girl you didn't even make him work for it. You didn't call your therapist for a meeting. Nothing. You just let him talk you outta your drawls the next day. LOL. Then, after you asked him straight up is there anything else I need to know, he lies to you AGAIN by omission. You find about about Merrit's baby and you immediately accept it basically, after War's sister kinda tried to shame you about feeling away. The baby might not be at fault, but acting like her needing time to process the reality is wrong is unfair. She just was like the future is the future. Like GIRLA!
Character "issues" aside though, I enjoyed the book and the audio version was a great listen. I would love to see another story with Conner and War's friend.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I don’t like the way Cali is on Conner about Maurice. I understand she wants her sister to get away from him, but that’s not the way to do it. She needs to be a place where Conner doesn’t feel judge or she will stop communicating with her altogether on the topic and suffer. Cali will feel worse if something happens and she finds out too late because she was so judgmental. Especially since she had Merritt keeping her as a secret. And my gut tells me had she known, she would’ve been upset but still have stayed.
War was deadass wrong for not telling Cali what was up before certain lines were crossed.
I love York.
This reconciliation came way to quick. Cali barely processed. She didn’t even talk to her therapist.
I don’t put full blame on Neece bc she didn’t put the tracker on Merritt’s car. She was wild for sleeping with the enemy but that’s as far as I’ll go. I think it’s crazy that War is on the bc, I’m sure that will be confusing to Jojo. Regardless of what War said, a DNA test will prove he’s related but not the father.
Cali is way to accepting of War’s actions and lifestyle. And his lies of omission were quickly forgiven. One ok but two big things, nah. It’s not realistic to me or it shows not real growth. But I’ll suspend that thought process for street niggas need love to philosophy.
I want a story on York and Conner
War doesn’t want Cali living in he spot she shared time in with Merritt but he offers her his apartment that he had his hoes in. How does that make sense?
Why not just get a new apartment instead of gutting it? This is so senseless
LOL Conner is wild. I love her.
Sometimes it seems like Cali doesn’t have a mind of her own. I’m not seeing the growth in this character.
Ultimately I enjoyed this story. I wish the FMC showed more growth and emotions but over all the story was engaging and entertaining. I feel in love with supporting male and female characters and hope they get their own story
Here is what I will say.... You can never go wrong with a K.C. Mills book. She's thorough and thoughtful and has a way of sucking you into a storyline that keeps the pages turning. I didn't give it 5 stars simply because I am sick of reading romance where the woman really contributes nothing but the man is over the hills inlove with her because she is her. That fantasy is cool but played out. This story showed us a broken Heroine (Cali) neglected of love by everyone but her sister allowing her into a relationship that she was in knowing it wouldn't go beyond what they had. Once that situation ended, Cali, met and quickly fell for someone (War) with secrets which, once revealed, left her in a decision state of conflict. We watched her somewhat gain her independence. Through therapy and new experiences, accept the truth of her previous relationship and build with a man who wouldn't take no for an answer. He was rough around the edges but with her he was soft. I love those types of alphas. He was good for her and she was good for him. He didn't require much and what he needed, she was willing to give. HEAs are what Ms. Mills delivers so there's no disappointment there. I will say that I am interested to see if Connor, Cali's sister, will get a story. She's feisty and like her sister has had to overcome past trauma to get to a place of healing. In this book, we see the start of that.
Imagine burying your head in the sand, ignoring every red flag during a relationship—only to discover the truth about who your partner really was after their death. Along the way, you unexpectedly find the love of your life in the process.
K.C. Mills has a knack for weaving intricate, layered stories that pull you in from the very first page. This book isn’t your typical romance; it’s an urban romance that feels refreshingly different—heartwarming, easy, and real.
The love story between War and Cali is what I’d call “easy love.” War was whatever Cali needed him to be, and it was such a joy to read a story that wasn’t centered around the all-too-common theme of struggle love. Instead, this narrative celebrates love that’s simple, supportive, and fulfilling.
Once again, K.C. Mills delivers a compelling, feel-good story that’s sure to resonate with readers. If you’re a fan of romance with depth and authenticity, this one’s for you.
Yes ma’am 👏🏾 I mean it’s the fkn 🐐 🤷🏽♀️. This was literally everything I knew it would be, freaking amazinggggggg. War and Cali 😍 omg I love them. These two came together in the most unconventional way and I loved every moment of this journey. Merritt mishandled Cali he knew he wasn’t good for her and he told her as much. War on the other hand knew what to do with his woman. He was intentional in his pursuit of her. I loved how he wasn’t letting up and how she didn’t run when she found out some ugly truths. She stayed because she knew War was for her. So glad she decided to LIVE‼️
10/10 would definitely recommend you reading for yourself. KC literally never misses 🔥 👏🏾 🖊️ 📚 We need Connor and York asap‼️
I just expected and need more. The story started off promising but quickly dwindled down. Cali was insecure and fickle the entire time. I wish she had been developed more, although I can’t recall her age in my mind she was only 19 or20. Cali’s reaction to War’s connection and Meritt’s baby were so bland. She showed her anger for all of 5 minutes before all was forgiven. I would have loved to see her take her time or work through those developments in therapy. I’m still not sure what the purpose of her being called to the hospital for her dad was. We learned of her and Connor being fostered for a millisecond, going to the hospital felt unnecessary especially if there wasn’t a plan to develop a relationship with her them. This could have been better developed
I really enjoyed this book! I’m a sucker for a dominant alpha male who knows what he wants and goes after it in the most loving way…add on a little “street” and I’m swooning. War and Cali’s love story didn’t start off conventionally, but all things happen for a reason.
This author is on my list of favorites and she didn’t miss with this one! I hope she does a story on the supporting characters (Cali’s sister Conner and War’s friend York). Their interactions are funny!
Overall great read! Not TOO much drama and a good amount of spice!
Wow what a way to meet your forever! There was so much going on, War was fulfilling a request from his cousin who in life kept Cali a secret but had a whole other life that she knew nothing about! War found out real quick that he would fall and very hard too! Things happened quickly and even with the craziness of Conner and Maurice, Neece and Baby JoJo and all the hidden stuff, they found their HEA! This was a very good read filled with so much passion! I loved it! Great job K. C. Mills!!!
Wow. This was a slow burn—albeit a tad messy—but soooo worth it. Cali and War were two souls mourning the same loss. War was immediately drawn to Cali despite “knowing” her before knowing her. Cali was suffering from suffocating grief, but War slowly but surely brought her out it. Their love was patience and easy, and even when all truths were revealed it prevailed. I found myself smiling a lot as I read this because I really wanted them to win. My only thoughts now are…will we be getting more of York and Conner. Surely they aren’t done yet.
This book was deep on a lot of different levels. I loved how War was this Alpha Male but was so deep and loving. War left me speechless with the way he loved everyone around him. Cal was a beautiful soul she just had to learn how to love herself. I’m so glad Cal figured out how to stop being so dependent. I really needed more of them cause when Cal completely finds herself she will be a force with War by her side.
Loved the story❤️. War was my man and did not play about our girl!! War was everything Cali didn’t know she needed. He stepped in and showed her how she should be treated, even though she didn’t know her heart was being mistreated. Conner added her funny 😄 vibe to the story. Glad she got out of that situation with her boyfriend. I feel like York is exactly what she needs. I just know they have a story. Great job as always🙌🏽🙌🏽👍🏽👏🏽👍🏽
It started off good then just did not go anywhere, the story dragged for me and nothing really happened tbh, i hate when a fmc is weak, Cali ddnt stand on anything and i can see why her ex kept her hidden away coz she has no backbone, even when she found out how War was linked to Merrit n about the baby she just let everything slide aaaah!! I was annoyed throughout
I loved this..I tried to makevit last longer by reading slower lol. War and Cali really discovered a lot about each other. I am glad that Conner got out that situation no ine deserves abuse. I hope she and York find their way to each other they are literally kindred souls and could be good for each other. Now Ms. Grace can have her cute freckled face granbaby. Love this beautiful haze. ❤
These 2 were not conventional anything but were just right for each other.
How much did we love Connor?! I feel like baby girl is hiding a lot of hurt and pain behind all of that sass. I loved her mouth.
“About fucking time. I’ve been here, just waiting on you.” Loving you, needing you, knowing you love me too, you just needed the time for your brain to catch up with your heart…
War is officially my book husband. This was honestly my favorite read of the year. Not only was it AMAZING, but it healed a part of me. It spoke to the girl that needed reassurance from the man she loves. War is just THAT man!! He was never playing about Cali and I love that for her. Cali thought Merritt was the best love she would ever receive and War showed her different. A man that wasn’t afraid to lead and set the tone. I hope that there is a book about Conner and York.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was definitely a beautiful Haze. It was full of ups and downs highs and lows. Cali love for Merritt was true at the time she needed it, but her love for War was forever. War fell for Cali just by listening to Merritt talk about her. She needed him, and he needed her.
Sometimes, we can be so hurt by life that we search for love and belonging with the wrong person. Cali finally got her person.
I don’t any have negatives for this story line. Author K.C. Mills always make it make sense. I enjoyed how War studied Cali from afar before making the ultimate approach. Their first lovemaking scene was precious and it only got better thereafter. I read the story straight through. I was always looking forward to the next chapter.
Once again, Ms. Mills did not disappoint. War was a man of his word, he kept his cousins word and took care of the people he cared about. Cali really was living in grief until she met War. Merritt would have never appreciated the woman she is no matter how special she was. Deep down he knew that and knew War was the man for the job.
