Meadow Hills #1

A Summer of Dandelions

Rate this book
He needs to find a wife. She can't afford any distractions.

After she’s fired from her serving job and kicked out of her apartment by her temperamental roommate, Addison Ellsworth has run out of luck…and cash. She can practically see her dream of winning the Miss Meadow title drifting away from her with the summer breeze. This is her last chance to win. No more excuses. No more distractions…not even her ex, the host of the pageant who is convinced Addison is still not over him.

When a live-in nanny position opens up in town, she sends off a quick prayer and a pink resume, hoping the new job will be her saving grace. But Addison's answered prayer quickly transforms into an unexpected hurdle. Not only is her gorgeous new boss completely distracting, but single dad Perry Whitmore also happens to be the restaurateur who had her fired.

Perry can’t fire her from this job, though, because she’s the only nanny his children get along with. Now he’s forced to bring Addison and her contagious, dimpled smile on family trips and pretend he's not attracted to her. With his dad retired and ready to move, he has six months left to get married so he can inherit his childhood home—the last place he has happy memories of his late mother. Addison might be the solution to all Perry's problems, especially when she agrees to a fake relationship that could buy him more time and help Addison prove to her unbearable ex she's not only moved on, but upgraded.

Now the only thing they have to do is ignore the annoying, sizzling chemistry between them if they're going to do what’s necessary to finally accomplish their dreams.

This is the first book in the Meadow Hills series but can be read as a standalone.

- Omg this book was sooo cute! It’s so rare that I can read two books by the same author in back to back months, but I love how Whitney Amazeen’s books truly feel like different books. Sometimes the writing and storyline from an author can feel the exact same from one book to another, but her books truly stand on their own.
- Love how there was so much tension and yearning in this one!! Could literally feel it radiating off the pages!! Every nanny trope book I’ve read has been super spicy, so it was a nice change of pace with this one.
- I’ve already ordered another book by this author! This book is definitely my favorite of hers so far!

This is the quickest dnf in history?!!

3% in.

Okay I got two comments asking why so here goes:

The fmc is in the running for some small town pageant. It’s all she talks about for the very beginning of the book.

Strike 1: have more than one personality trait ok.

Strike 2: her praying and talking about waiting until marriage. Now this is just me but I have religious trauma and I do not need to be reading about the fmc praying for her dead grandma and then talking about waiting to have sex for marriage. So I understand this is a me thing but I do not want to be reading about a religious holier-than-thou fmc. I also have a familial death trigger so really it’s two strikes in one for me!!

Strike 3: Her roommate also sucks and I hate girl-on-girl drama so much. Why would you live with someone who is nasty to you? How hard would it have been for her to write friendly/friend roommates?

I have no interest in going back to this!!! If I knew of the Christian themes I would not have signed up for the arc.

Thank you so much for the ARC of this!

This book was a super cute wholesome read. The Christian acknowledgments were a nice touch. It wasn’t over done or too much in your face. It was nice to read a book where they advocated about waiting until marriage to have sex.
I loved the twist on the single dad and nanny. I love how quickly the kids fell in love with her. I almost felt like it was a nanny McPhee situation. Probably as cute as that movie too.
Each of the characters were easy to love to picture in my head. I felt like their love was easy to follow and very real feeling.

Overall this was a quick cute closed door romance read with hints of Christian themes. If these are your type of things I would definitely recommend this to you.

This book was soooo sweet! I do not like nicknames in books much, but this book changed my mind. The author did an amazing job showcasing the chemistry between the two main characters. I loved both of them so much!

I picked this up on a whim after seeing book two all over my feed, and once I realized this one was a nanny/single dad romance, I had to start here!

Addy’s just lost her job because Perry, fired her, opps! And he’s just lost his nanny. Desperate for help with his four kids , Perry unknowingly hires her back, just hiring the first resume they come across. She needs the money, and he needs help fast, it’s the perfect setup. As they spend more time together, their connection grows deeper, but they both know they can have no future together.

Perry has to marry by a certain date to keep his childhood home, while Addy is preparing for a pageant she promised her late grandmother she’d enter, and contestants can’t be married. Both have to choose between their dreams and their hearts. Watching them fall for each other while knowing they can’t be together was both sweet and heartbreaking. And when Perry has to start considering the woman to marry that isn't Addy, heartbreaking...

The story had a lovely mix of humor, family moments, and faith, though at times it felt like it was walking a fine line between being a faith-based romance and wanting to add a bit of spice (some innuendo, steamy makeouts, etc). It was a closed door romance, but it did discuss past mistakes, and fade to black in marriage. A few of the pageant rules were a little confusing, making me wonder if they ended breaking the rules in the end?! idk. But overall, I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait to read book two to see her friend’s story unfold!

I think I’m in love with Perry Whitemore 🫶🏽🧍🏽‍♀️

If you’re looking for the perfect spring/ summer read then look no further.

- single dad
- fake dating
- one bed
- nanny
- forced proximity
- Christian rep
- funny & mischievous kids
- no third act breakup

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about their perfect little family and how they supported eachother.

The pacing was spot on and I loved the faith element as it wasn’t overdone but really added to their personalities.

The only thing I didn’t love was all the pageant talk (that’s probably the none USA in me tho )🧍🏽‍♀️

Fav quotes 💖💖
- “I just can’t remember when exactly my dream stopped being holding on to this house and started being her.”
- “Thank you for coming along tonight. And for overreacting for me in the club.” “I’d overreact for you anytime.”
- “Who knew you could be so protective?” “When it comes to you? Always.”

not for me. premarital sex is not okay, and this book markets it as okay. sin is sin and it's even worse that this is Christian fiction 😭

I will not be reading the rest of this series

*4.5

Every time I picked up "A Summer of Dandelions," I didn't want it to end AND I kept thinking about it when I put it down. Also, this is a self-published debut!!! I will definitely be reading the next book in the Meadow Hills series when it comes out!!

LOVED:
- Addison and Perry <3 Their chemistry was SO GOOD. From their cute texts to their support for each other's goals to their fake dating/engagement but actually pining for each other, these two were made for each other. The boss/employee trope sometimes feels weird for me, but this one felt so natural. And I also think I'm now a big fan of the single dad trope hehe
- Sometimes I don't think authors write realistic kids but THESE kids were perfectly written. Mischievous and naughty, but also sweet and hilarious. I love how Addy shows them they deserve love after their mom left them and they way they loved Addy was so precious.
- NO 3rd act break-up (can we get a hallelujah?!)
- The ending was perfect.

LIKED:
- I don't know much about pageant life, but Addison's perseverance through the struggles and her connection to her grandma was sweet.
- The faith content was just enough to not feel overwhelming but enough to feel realistic and important to both characters.
- The pacing was great.
- Addison's penchant for sundresses was adorable.

MEH:
- Nothing major! I just didn't really understand Asher's abrupt character shift at the end of the book.

Sexual content: NO explicit scenes. Book opens with Addison getting a pregnancy test. Discussions of abstinence before marriage and regret over breaking that vow. One fade to black scene at the end.

Also, the cover is stinking CUTE!

*Thank you to the author for an advanced electronic copy. All opinions are my own.

My favorite quote:
- "The house was my dream for the longest time. But it's not anymore... Not since you gave the word dream a whole new meaning." *SWOON*

ARC REVIEW:

This was such a sweet and romantic story. Not to mention it was so amazing to see the way Christianity was being portrayed in this story. It was so beautiful, and as a Christian myself it made me so happy to read a beautiful love story that contained Christian values, but still wasn’t shoving Christianity down your throat!

This was okay but I don't think I like nanny/single dad romances. They're just not for me. The kids were the best part of this book, to be honest, and the romance was just rushed with no chemistry whatsoever.

DNF @ 45%

I normally try not to DNF arcs but I really wasn't enjoying this one.

I didn't realize this book would have a big Christian element to it, nothing wrong with that, just not for me. I would't have picked it up if it was marketed that way originally.

Thank you Whitney Amazeen for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

"You were my new dream." - Flynn Rider

I loved this story. Addison has one aim, to follow in her grandmother's footsteps and become Miss Meadow. There are several obstacles in her way from her final attempt... a break-up with her pageant host boyfriend, a firing from her job, her roommate's not-so-subtle suggestion that she moves out and a loss from her pageant sponsor. She takes a job nannying two unruly sets of twins without realizing her new boss is also her old boss. Yep, the one that just fired her.

Perry is running a successful restaurant, but in order to keep his house and his dad off his back, he has to marry by the end of the year. His plan was to find a marriage of convenience through an agency, but in walks Addison and mixes up everyone's plans.

Insert some fake dating/engagement to get the haters off their backs but tons of actual chemistry = real ❤️. The path to the HEA isn't clear though and someone will have to give up a dream to make it possible to be together.

Both characters were suffering from some familial trauma and it created some really deep issues for both. I love that there is no miscommunication here even if there is doubt and uncertainty. Perry is the white knight and super down to earth. Addison is the glue that holds the little struggling family together. There is a wonderful suggestion that the mistakes of your past don't define you in the present and you have the ability to choose a different path than the one you were dealt or thought you were on.

There are some really lovely faith elements throughout, which I love and expected from this Christian author. There is also some mild spice just above kisses.

4.5 stars rounded to 5

I received an advanced copy from the author in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts contained in this review are my own.

I never thought there was such a thing as too much conflict but this is it.
It just made the story absolutely ridiculous but also doesn’t allow time for everything to be fully developed. There was so much mentioned there was no way it could all be resolved.
There’s no mention of therapy or help for anyone and there are some very real issues for both of the main characters but also the children.
There’s some cute moments with the kids and I really wish there had been more but also some of the kids behavior is clearly acting out because of abandonment issues.
It’s very weird how often Perry compares Addison to Jill even if the person is better no woman wants to be compared it’s not fair to anyone. Again it hints to his need for counseling.
Also lots of weird mention of him being soft and his son for playing with makeup. Just not needed.

This also sits in a very weird place it’s marketed as Christian fiction and mentions God a lot but she has a pregnancy scare, he has multiple kids out of marriage and they almost have sex with each other. She also keeps using the pageant as her excuse not to have sex which is so odd.
Everyone has different preferences on spice but I think it’s very important to be clear!
This is definitely low spice or fade to black not closed door. If they’re both naked it’s NOT closed door. 🤦🏻‍♀️

So many thanks to Whitney for the advance copy of her brilliant book.

I love me a fake dating plot, and the story and stakes in this one were so good. Oh man, I was right there anguishing with the characters over how they could make this work out. Speaking of the characters, they are absolute sweeties and I loved their vibes. (Even you, Perry.) I especially love the it girl style icon that is Addison.

Another thing I absolutely LOVED about this book were the simple God girl vibes. It was not a big part of the story, but the leading lady’s Christian faith is super important to her and made it an even better read for me. It’s rare that I read about a woman who prioritizes reserving sex for marriage as much as I do, and who prays and reads the Bible and stuff without it being an explicitly Christian storyline. I absolutely loved seeing that in a normal romcom.

Overall, I highly recommend this. There were so many elements working together to make this a compelling and incredibly sweet story.

Firstly I want to thank Whitney Amazeen for this ARC. Thank you so much 🥰
I found this book hard to rate because as much as I enjoyed it there were some things that I personally didn’t like.

Rating 3 to 4 ⭐️

But first the good things. Addison and Perry were such cuties the whole book I couldn’t get enough of their flirting, I adored how he called her bunny … so cute. I also absolutely loved the small town vibes in this book, especially with the pageant component. It really felt like I was in a small town. Perry’s kids were just adorable and really well integrated into the book, although the ages of the kids confused me a bit, as sometimes they behaved differently than what I thought kids their age would behave (but I’m an only child so I don’t really have experience with kids so who knows).

Now to the thing I didn’t like, and that is just a personal preference, is the religious part in the story, its a small part in this book, but I myself am not religious so I couldn’t relate to anything in the scenes where the characters talked about their belive in god or things related to their believes. It isn’t something that was pushed upon you what I really appreciated but it just wasn’t for me.

All in all I would definitely recommend this book if you want a super cozy book, with cute and well written characters and a good plot, with hints of Christian themes.

Thank you so much for the ARC of this!! 💕

This was the cutest and sweetest book I’ve read. I’m obsessed with Perry and Addison. You can just feel the chemistry between them as you read the book. They had me smiling and kicking my feet the entire time. I love how quickly the kids fell in love with Addison. I was cheering them on and waiting for their happy ending. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!!!!

this book was so sweet and cute and it had me giggling and kicking my feet the two MC‘s Addison and Perry. I love them. Now Addison I loved her character. I felt like she was very headstrong and she was so like innocent but like not innocent at the same time and I felt like she was just the perfect person to be with Perry and especially with his kids, I really loved the single father trope I eat that up every time, oh my gosh I love him. I love him so much. He was the best character in this book love him and how he stoke it through and was able to take care of four kids by himself is crazy. I love this book. This book was definitely deserving of 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I did DNF this book 75% of the way through it so no I didn’t technically finish it but I got most of the way. I wanted to love this book so much but it just wasn’t it. I didn’t like the characters together and I felt like the author was trying to be “more spicy” but still fall into the Christian romance genre. I completely understand wanting to write about romance and how sometimes lust can rule thoughts and wanting to write about that in a Christian romance I think is great, I just thought it was a little much. And I didn’t feel like their chemistry was super believable with how fast it was going so it just took away from the book. I loved how the kids were written and I loved how the main character interacted with the kids, that was my favorite part and I was hoping for more connection around the kids with the main characters. (There might be at the end, I don’t know) but overall not for me.

Thank you to the author for an ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Who I think this book would be a good fit for:
- Lovers of clean, Christian romances
- Readers who enjoy the single dad trope and when the kids are mischievous and plot against every nanny expect her
- If you like when the main couple develops feelings for each other very quickly but can’t be together for some reason
- Fans of fluffy plots that are low stakes

This is a wholesome story and the romance felt very believable. It was a unique twist to the typical nanny and marriage of convenience tropes.

this BARELY made it to three stars
this was truly such a cute and fluffy read!! i really love addison and perry they make so much sense together this was giving majorrrr hallmark vibes
howeverrrr a couple things
1. WHY would you make EVER make bunny a nickname NO NO NO NEVER EVER if a man was literally being so serious and tried to call me that in a serious way i would actually start busting out laughing in front of his face
2. as sweet as perry is, he can be veryyy cringey he had some good moments but mostly i got the ick
3. LOVEEEEE ADDISON SHES MY GIRL 🫶🏻🫶🏻
4. THE PROPOSAL WAS RIDICULOUS SHE LITERALLY HAD AN ALLERGIC REACTION, THREW UP ALL OVER HERSELF AND HE THINKS NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE THE MOVE OMG I WOULD HAVE BROKE UP WITH HIM RIGHT THEN AND THERE it was meant to be so serious and romantic and i was literally laughing out loud the whole time
5. a few grammatical errors and overall imo needs major editing
as many comments as i have about this i surprisingly enjoyed it i was invested!!

I was probably not the correct audience for this book because when I applied for the arc I was sold on the fake dating trope and I was not under the impression it was a Christian romance, so I was surprised during the first couple chapters when several Christian elements were brought up.
Regardless, I still decided to give it a fair chance.

For me, the main characters ultimately fell flat, it was like the one thing they wanted was their only personality aside from them being extremely attracted to each other. It was also a pretty fast paced book and quite predictable. Addison especially just baffled me when she was more worried about paying her entrance fee for the pageant than her rent, like girl be forreal!!

I’m giving it an extra point because there were definitely some cute moments, it did seem like they cared about each other. And when Perry’s kids came into the picture, you can tell Addison belonged with them because of course the kids loved her.

I want say thank to Whitney and her team for sending me this as Arc and I am reviewing it voluntarily! ❤️
Addison just got fired for her job and need to find one asap insert Perry a man with four small children that in dire need of a nanny. Perry hires Addison not knowing she is the previous employee he just fired as waitress at his restaurant. They get over that hump but Perry is trying to find a wife to get his inheritance before time is up and Addison has to single without kids for a pageant. Feelings start to arise and so the story goes on.
This was okay read for me. I’m not going to do in depth review just because I didn’t really like it. The characters were just annoying to me and this wasn’t the story I was expecting when I signed up for the ARC. She talks about waiting for marriage to have sex way too much honestly. I am not entirely sure why I didn’t like him but he just rubbed me wrong. The writing was a little off for me too. I’m gonna give it 3.25 ⭐️

This is a DNF for me. And by no means in this book bad. On the contrary, it is highly entertaining. I spend all of the 56 percent with a goofy smile on my face. Sadly I am making this decision on personal beliefs alone.

I've decided to stop reading romance books (or books in general) with any kind of spice of sexy shenanigans, for my name of my mental, spiritual and overall health. This book is clean and christian but (important for me) it had a few decisions that I do not agree with and I've found that constantly reading about something makes it permissible in my head. So some decisions here were not okay with me, if you read it you will find them silly or unimportant, and that's okay, but I'm deciding to stay away from it.

Again, this writer is incredible. I loved her characters, I want to hug Abel so bad and play along side the rest of the kids, she did a wonderful job there and of course I acknowledge that. It was just a personal take and decision<3

She’s a pageant contestant that is disqualified if married, he’s a single dad that will lose his house if he’s not. And he hires her to be his nanny. This book gave cute sound of music plot vibes with Maria and Captain von Trapp.

While it is closed-door, there’s a couple heated makeout scenes and sex before marriage/waiting for marriage is discussed. There are random faith elements sprinkled throughout.

Content: wife/mother abandonment, strained family relationships, no language, closed-door

This cover is so gorgeous! I received an arc copy of Summer of Dandelions and unfortunately it was a miss for me. This is totally a case of mismarketing and “it’s me, not the book” because I was not aware that this was a Christian romance novel when I picked it up. While it didn’t work for me, I have no doubt Summer of Dandelions will find its audience and thrive in Christian romance spaces.
