When Phoebe's godfather goes missing at the same time that her art thief ex is released from prison, she suspects a dangerous connection that will send her to the ends of the earth. Welcome to the Agency of the Ancient Lost & Found, Book 9.
If you enjoy well written and character driven novels, then the Hunt for Red Kangaroo Dreaming will speak to your soul. Join Phoebe and her team as they seek to track down and neutralize her ex-boyfriend and arch nemesis while attempting to rescue her missing godfather and recover additional stolen art. Readers of the series also will be pleased to learn the answers to long standing questions regarding several of the characters in the series. Some readers may notice that there are subtle differences in this book from prior volumes in the series but these differences allow this book to act as a bridge between the Phoebe that readers have known and loved, and the Phoebe who is yet to be revealed as she continues her quest to declare agency over her own life and unique talents. By way of disclosure, I am a beta reader for this author.
This is the 10th book in this series and, to me, the most disappointing. There was definitely potential. I mean, discovering a lost treasure horde in the Australian Outback mixed in with Aboriginal lore, has a lot going for it but this book fell flat on all accounts. The usual characters were there - Phoebe, Peaches, and their Italian compadres. Evan was, as usual, elsewhere until the end. The difficulties were entirely predictable and, once again, the ending was too contrived and offered not one bit of closure leading to the next book, which I'm sure will be the same. As much as I enjoyed the first books in this series - high adventure, foreign lands and culture, explorations of fine art and artistic creativity - Red Kangaroo Dreaming was just a feeble effort at carrying on the Agency of the Ancient Lost & Found. It will keep me from buying the next one due out in March,
Phoebe and friends are off to Australia. Noel is out of prison and Max is missing. Evan is again in Europe on assignment. There is another guy in the picture who is a worse psychpathic criminal than Noel. The 'surprise' at the end is no surprise. Some very interesting facts about Australian flora and fauna. The gympie-gympie tree sounds truly crazy. The landscape sounds incredible as seen through Phoebe's eyes (and her latest dreamwalker host)
The description and history of exotic places all over the world is what draws me to these books. I also like the development of the characters and enjoy watching them continue to develop with every book. The supernatural aspect is pure fantasy and is an interesting concept for relaying history.
Australia is the perfect setting for another Phoebe adventure. The metaphysical is well balanced with powers of deduction and the characters, including bad boy Noel, are allowed to shine. Can't wait for the next one!
Hold onto your hats and jump right in as Phoebe and friends risk their lives in a daring rescue deep within the wilds of Australia! What a fascinating read that was almost impossible to put down before the end!
Beautifully written adventure. Captures the deserts of Australia and the aborigine culture whilst racing along the story. Love these adventures of Phoebe and her friends. Keep the stories coming please
The background of these novels is always so vivid! While the stories can be pedestrian, the telling is masterful. That said, hire a competent proofreader, learn the difference between “lead” and “led”, and dump Noel.
I enjoyed this book- a departure from what had become the norm. Phoebes character was given greater depth , vulnerability and self awareness and maturity.
I started out really enjoying this series. The last few books have been meh. It's gotten to the point that we know Phoebe is going to be kidnapped at some point--that's getting old! Give Phoebe the skills to avoid getting kidnapped every time LOL I'll read the next one but depending on the storyline, it may be my last in the series.
