I got this book as an ARC and wow! 5/5. I was shocked at this one - it is that good. It’s a little on the longer side at 600 pages, but I was intrigued the whole time. And if anyone is trying to look for more BIPOC books, I would definitely recommend this one.
The story is about a myrmaid name Eloise and a human man named Jaspyr. If anyone is looking for a dark adult romance with spice and blood here it is.
So essentially Eloise has been kissed by the Sea and is gifted magical powers and immortality. And in turn Eloise gives up her humanity, and every fortnight she walks on land to suck the blood of men. She is a strong female lead who at times lets her curiosity get the best of her.
Jaspyr is a painter. He’s also has magic, but due to the world he lives in he has to hide them or face death. He is also unfortunately damaged and hoping for revenge. He can be a bit on the dark side, but if you want to see the male lead hide behind his gorgeous and strong female love, both out of fear and reverence, he’s your guy.
They both fall for one another immediately and the story follows them both as they try to navigate their love for one another, but also the world they live in.
I don’t want to give too much away because it really is so well done, and part of that is learning more about the world as Eloise does. But the thing I definitely want to highlight, is how Ashleigh created this romance. The whole time you are rooting for Eloise and Jaspyr and their love, because that’s what you are used to. It’s what you expect. Love conquering all and stuff like that. But Ashleigh perfectly blends in the feeling of anxiety at their relationship. Your heart says one thing, but as your gut can tell something just doesn’t feel right. You can’t tell what it is, but a part of you, despite wanting them to get together, can tell something is wrong.
It’s so well done! 5/5 for me! I definitely recommend it!
“Then live with me,” I say, my voice cracking—I squeeze my arms around her; this time she doesn’t pull away. “Let the world burn. We will remain.”
This book is the BEST forbidden romance I've read to date! The way Eloise and Jaspyer had to fight for not just each other but themselves kept me on the edge of my seat every step of the way! The unique writing that made us connect not just to the main characters but the side ones as well was written so well. Ashleigh Bello has truly made a fantasy world that I am in love with and want to visit this world again and again!

This book was just… stunning. I haven’t read the author’s first series and started with this, but after reading TMK, I will have to go back and read her other books! Eloise was such a unique character, with myrmaid/vampire/siren vibes. Jaspyr was one of those characters you fall in love with immediately. I found the writing to be enchanting, along with the plot progression, and forbidden love.
Enchanting Killer bloodsucking myrmaid meets magical human man, what could go wrong!
Wow honestly i was not expecting that ending. Enchanting Killer bloodsucking myrmaid meets magical human man, what could go wrong! I did not expect to feel this many emotions. No shade, i thought this was going to be all smut which is the reason I was scared to read this because i don’t read smut and I’ve never read a dark romance before. To me the fantasy aspect and smut was very well blended together and balanced. I am actually really interested in the world building and lore! I loved when we got glimpses of the past. In the end, it really makes sense why things were happening and I like how everything kind of tied together. I definitely will read if there is a second book coming out.

What can I say? This is my first Ashleigh Bello book that I have read and I honestly did not know what to expect. I love the little mermaid (disney's version) so I am over here thinking it will be somewhat familiar to that, just darker but woah! definitely was not expecting it to be that different (amazing different).
At first, its kind of hard for me to get into books and I am a slow reader, but i devoured this book! Vampires and mermaids, forbidden love, fantasy and dark romance, what more can you want! The style of writing captivated my wondering mind which is what I look for in authors. I will be reading her other books. READ THIS BOOK! YOU WONT REGRET IT!
I received this book as an ARC and I am completely obsessed with it. I enjoyed walking through Ashleigh Bello's world building and immersive imagination. This book was captivating; I couldn't put it down. The plot was phenomenol; the drive for them to kill each other, yet be together had me biting my finger nails. The spice was truly something to read about (insert winky face).
Although the book is a little bit on the longer side, about 600 pages, Bello makes it easy to read through. It is not your typical fantasy book with difficult literature and words. I was able to zoom through it during these last few days.
I need there to be a sequel, because I could not get enough of Eloise and Jaspyr.
A story with strong potential, but fell flat. Still, this was an enjoyable read. The thing that bothered me the most was the lack of actual "love." When the two main characters were together, it was 80% of the time just doing the deed than talking and connecting. I don't know if it was intentional to show that the connection between the two was indeed a frenzy....if I take it from that perspective, then the narrative is genius. Speaking of that, I really liked how Jaspyr snapped out of it (it meaning the frenzy). The angst and plotting he did at the end.....deliciousssss. I was afraid he would lose conviction. I loveeeeeeeeed the mounting horror Jaspyr had during the period of time they were together. Every time she killed, he pushed down that guilt, but it kept rising up each time....I felt his emotions so hard!!! What I didn't like was the lack of reference to Eloise's human life. You're telling me she didn't have any experiences when she was human that impacted her? It would have added such depth to her character (like how Jaspyr's past impacted his thoughts and decisions). Just being a myrmaid made her feel very one note. It would have made for good conneciton/conversation with Jaspyr too. The ending was exciting and twisty but felt drawn out....but I didn't mind too much! Kept me on the edge of my seat. Despite all my grievances, I'm excited to see where the story goes after the ending!
Everyone needs to preorder this book. I didn’t know what to expect from a myrmaid forbidden/enemies to lovers dark romance but this was everything. Such a beautiful written story that brought forth so many incredible emotions.
Eloise is the perfect FMC. Not to mention she is a person of color!!!! I love the representation I haven’t read many books with the main character being black and I live for it. She’s stunning!! She has so much courage and strength it’s insane. Jaspyr was so easy to love. I loved the magic aspects and his sad backstory added so much to his character. Them fighting for each other was everything to me. This ending. I cannot wait to see what comes next I was obsessed with this one. It has quite a few pages but it never felt like a long book while reading I was tearing through chapter after chapter “blood thirsty” ;) for more!
I feel like there aren’t very many fantasy romance books with myrmaids out there and I absolutely love myrmaids so it was so fun and different! I love that she’s able to hunt on land at night instead of just strictly being stuck in the sea! I would say one thing though this is definitely not a happy go lucky romance. There is so much heartbreak, there are tough moments and the ending is wild but that’s what I love about reading. Real emotions coming off the page and right into your heart. Ashleigh is an amazing author I definitely look forward to more of her work and I definitely recommend you preorder this one and read her other series as well! Definitely an instant buy author now.
This is an ARC read. All my feelings and thoughts on this one are honest and valid in return for an early book.
I was so excited to be accepted for an early copy. I’ve never read many fantasy books with mermaids. The premise sounded very interesting a vampiric mermaid/siren that only drinks the blood of men falling for a man, a landwalker, and not killing him because of their love. There was so much potential especially with his backstory and the creation story of the original mermaid. Sadly all I got from the fmc was a lot of I’m attracted to you, I want your blood, I’m going to kill you, but I don’t want to, but I hate you, but I want more of your spice it’s soooo good… and almost the same from him… you’re a monster, I hate you, I want you, I can’t get enough of you, but I want to kill you. I’m sure this is just the type of love interest some live for in their spicy romantasies. I found it childish and annoying and it detracted from the storyline. I appreciate the author allowing me to read her book, but I won’t be continuing the series.
The emotional rollercoaster ride that a Myrmaid’s Kiss takes you on is amazing. I truly never knew what would happen next. I am anxious for the next book! I am trying to keep this review short and not give away any spoilers.
The intricate world building between the gods, the mythical, and the human that Author Bello has created is a fantasy must read. This is more dark than some of her previous books, but all the more juicy of a read. Blood-thirsty Myrs and forbidden love tropes will love A Myrmaid’s Kiss. MC Eloise Myr desires to do the right thing, but she is so very young.
Eloise is a character that shows an emotional depth to truly try to overcome all through love. Will her prey try to do the same? Under the guidance of her sister, Isobel, she tries to make sense of what it means to be a myr and how to fight against overwhelming blood-thirst.
Initial thoughts ..
Where to begin? Readers are introduced to Eloise and Jaspyr as two very separate individuals, but equally interesting characters.
Eloise is a new myr, just trying to find her purpose. After all, what does one do with eternity? Myr are meant to abide my strict dietary rules, but the blood thirst can get the better of them.
Jaspyr has seemingly lost everything he cared about and is trying to figure out how to settle into the new regime that took everything from him. His found family is trying to do their best, and he is conflicted.
Happy hunting
Once our two MCs meet, the hunt is on. Literally, and figuratively. The hunt to find each other, to kill each other, and to be with each other. The 🌶️ and thrill of the chase makes a reader just want to devour the next chapters.
Where’s book two?
That’s the only thought now that I am suffering from myr hangover. I absolutely need to know what happens next. This was a longer read (and I am excited to see how many pages it tops out at), but it felt like it flew by. If you are a fantasy reader that enjoys the forbidden love trope, this book will satiate you. Or send you into a frenzy of wanting book 2. 😉
I was provided an ARC copy by the Author in exchange for an honest review.
Bello takes her prowl through creating an Adult Dark Fantasy build on a tale of Myrmaids but with a twist. These aren't just sirens (which is dangerous enough) but creatures of the night looking to feast on blood of land dwellers.
Warning: Check all trigger warnings ahead of time & it's an adult book so things happen on page. I'm not typically comfortable with it but it doesn't often take away from the book as whole plot wise. I made myself aware of trigger warnings ahead of time as I do & made an informed decision.
That said I'd like to tell you my thoughts.
Bello brings to life a unique take on the Myrmaid lore not only captivating an audience with the dangers of the murky depths and sirens control over humans but also twisting them to be creatures of the night consumed by their struggle to control a bloodthirst.
Eloise struck me as an individual plagued by loyalty, curiosity, & fear on the verge of a break in utter madness. A cursed soul of indecision. She changed her mind more than one washes their bed linen (not to jab at college students who make such confessions openly).
Jaspyr was less conflicting and definitely thought her a monster despite his curiosity. He had very teenage boy tendencies despite his backstory leaning as a man who has suffered.
Overall, the world-building was brilliantly and the story well written. I just felt as if there was something missing with character development. In that last 10 chapters I was feeling less enthusiastic about the world-building due to the chaotic teenage villain romance going on.
It started off fantastic. I felt it got diluted due to the toxic relationship between the characters and the length of the novel (aka the second longest book I've read). However the ending saved it.
It was an ARC copy. My opinion is mine. Come to your own conclusions.
Hi! I read the ARC of this book, so my experience might be a little different than yours.
For me, this book started a little slow. But of course it will be. You have to learn new characters and world build. (This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I do plan to read her other series.) But what a ride this was. The hatred. The love? If you can call it that. Biggest rollercoaster EVER. 🤫
We do love Eloise and all her sassiness. She is Queen Bee 🐝
Jaspyr the tortured artist that doesn’t want to accept help, even though there are people willing. 😞
They come together and worlds collide. And I mean COLLIDE. Look out when you see them coming, you might not make it through the night. 🥲
Ending was FANfreakingTASTIC and I’m hungry for more. Yelled, “I KNOW YOU LYIN” at my book. 😭
Flabbergasted. 🤧
Please hurry and release the next book Miss Bello. 🥹
As of now todays date(12/23/23) I’ve only read the teaser chapter and I’m already hooked. I’ve been so impatient waiting for this book to be unofficially officially released!
i really really really wanted to like this, but it took so long to push through and i almost DNF’d it. i liked the spicy scenes, but that was mostly it.
i was super frustrated with both of the main characters multiple times and i also had a really hard time with the world building and magic system. i didn’t understand why some humans had magic and others didn’t? the beginning was really slow as well.
If your looking for a little mermaid 🧜🏾♀️ retelling this book is not it lol 😂
Myrmaids kiss was a good book 📖 this book was about a forbidden romance and had a little bit of spice. 2/5🌶️ 🌶️ Eloise and Jaspyr was one of my favorites. The forbidden romance between the two. They can’t seem to keep their hands or minds off each other but yet deep down there is a little hate coming from both of them… If you like fantasy, forbidden romance, some gory parts , magic and more this book is for you 🙂
“Do whatever you want to me when I’ve finished with you. As long as i can touch you again”
*forbidden romance* *enemies to lovers* *Dark romance* *Blood Sucking*
I received this book as an ARC
This book was absolutely positively captivating! My mind is so blown at how the Author really paced out everything so thoughtfully to end with a bang at the ending! This book is pretty meaty. There is a bit of cat and mouse chase that happens.
I loved Jaspyr and his character development. I Truly felt for him the most and his story. The world building and learning history of the past for these character was so enchanting. This is a true Fantasy book! And also a True dark romance book. Eloise and Jaspyr’s loved formed in darkness. Formed from being Enemies. Watching how both these characters get to a place of no return. I was truly not prepared for the emotional rollercoaster Ashleigh put us on.
This book is not about a happy singing myrmaid! These myrmaids are dark and pure huntresses preying on the blood of men. If you loved twilight, than this book is for you! When we truly learn of Eloise you really get a sense of “flowers in the attic” and began to sympathize with her! This is jammed pack with emotions and spice! There is spice in this book but if that is all you are after then this book is not for you. There is world building and this is still a Fantasy Romance book. The detail under the sea was so fascinating and watching how Eloise has her fish pals to communicate with was adorable.
I loved reading this book! It truly transported me to another world and I couldn’t get enough of it. This was my first high fantasy read and I loved the world building and how easy it was to understand. I loved the relationship between our main characters (even if it was unconventional). I will be patiently waiting for the next book!!!
This book was AMAZING. The story line was beautifully written and it made me keep turning pages (well swiping pages) every time I sat down to read. I didn’t think I was going to like it that much but it was such a good read. I highly recommend this book.

This book is simply put, AMAZING! I personally never thought I’d be into myrmaids before I was always a faeries/bat boys type girl. This book surely showed me that there’s adventures to be had even in the sea! I felt like from the moment I started I couldn’t put it down. I savored and allowed this read as much as I could but by the time I finished I was still aching for more. I LOVE the details, not too much that you get lost in trying to piece ALL of it together, but enough to pain the perfect picture. And the story line! How it all comes together? God that ENDING?? I was begging for it but it took my by surprise and didn’t end the way I thought it would!! And don’t even get me started on the spice! So so good for something so unexpected!! An absolute must read!!!😍

This book is amazingly addictive I had so many quotes I wanted to include in my goodreads review. However I will not do that for spoilers.
First of Eloise the myrmiad is the most beautiful description ever. I felt like I was in an under sea experience. The sisterly love the enemies to lovers. Ughhh this book made my #SirensEra really strong This year. Thank you so much for writing this book. I wanted to cry so many times in this book
Here is one of my favorite quotes "Always to return"
Completed via Kindle. I received an advance reader copy (ARC) of this book for an honest review! All comments and opinions are my own.
I never read about mermaids before only seen them on film so when I found out that she was a blood drinker that got me hooked because I love reading anything that has to do with that so for the author to mix up the two…I was in for a nice little treat. 😏 The way she introduced different characters and world built was fantastic. It was just my pace. I will be telling my friends about this book for them to read.

It was a promising book as I love mermaids (myrmaids) and the cover is astonishing. There’s a great storyline here, which ended very unexpected. Wish it had ended differently.
One thing I didn’t like was the world building. It made the book longer than what it needed to be and took away from the storyline.
I wanted to know more about the sisters. The story of Isobel and Syrifina to help me connect with them and understand their anguish with the selfish choices Eloise was making. This could’ve been a great addition to the book instead of the anecdotes we got throughout the story.

I am absolutely obsessed with Ashleigh Bello’s writing style. I loved the character progression for Eloise Myr in this book. It felt darkly whimsical, magical, and entrancing, and it still had a great enemies to lovers plot along the way. Without stating any spoilers, please be sure to check the trigger warnings. This will definitely be a reread for me.
Wow! What an incredible story! It has me wanting to find out more. What becomes of Jaspyr and Eloise? I loved it from beginning to end. If you love adventure and romance, this book is one that will make you want more! Amazing!
This is a true enemies to lovers, but this is no fairytale. This book took me through so many emotional rollercoasters and left me devastated in the best way. I have had this on my mind for the past 4 days. If you want to read a story about a predator hunting its prey while simultaneously becoming so obsessed, and the prey afraid and yet so intrigued, both falling in love, and that love costing them everything… This may be for you.
I’m not going to lie, I am a happy ending type of girl. I love the rainbows and sunshine, but I can understand not every love story is this, some are tragedies and that is ok. This book gave me everything I needed and then some. Initially I really did not like Eloise she was a child, and considering the length of her supernatural life she was a child. She thought she knew it all, refused to listen, continued to make horrible decisions and in the end she learned that every action has a consequence.
I actually really liked Jaspyr throughout the story. I do feel like he was dealt a crappy hand and deserved so much more. I’m hoping that maybe the author will find a way to continue their story to allow a different ending (Yes I know it ended in the way that was most fitting, but a girl can be hopeful). Anyways HIGHLY recommend.
The rollercoaster ride of emotions that a Myrmaid’s Kiss took me on is one that I soon won't forget. I truly never knew what would happen next with every twist that came my way.
The world building details that are incorporated between the gods, the mythical, and the human that Author Bello has created is a fantasy must read. Blood-thirsty Myrs and forbidden love tropes will devour A Myrmaid’s Kiss in the best way. MC Eloise Myr is young and wants to do the right thing by her new family, but will she be able to control her new needs? Eloise is a character that shows she will try to overcome all obstacles through love. Will everyone else try to do the same? Readers are introduced to Eloise and Jaspyr as two very separate individuals, but equally interesting characters. The tension between these two characters is magnetic! The 🌶️ and thrill of the chase sent me into a frenzy, and I devoured the next chapters.
This was a longer read, but it felt like it flew by. I am excited to see where the story goes and what is next for Eloise and Jaspyr. If you like fantasy, this is a book to satiate your needs and leave you in a daze. A must-read.
**TW** D3ath, violence, blood, gore, injury detail, manipulation, burning, drowning, d3ath of a parent, loss of a child, s*xual violence
Oh this book was so good!! On the longer side, I was half expecting to take ages to read it but the pacing is relatively fast and the story gripping. I just wanted to keep reading, to know what happens next....to be slightly traumatised yet bask in that trauma.
Eloise, our main character is such a badass. I loved her character development! As for Jaspyr, there's so much left to discover.👀
Syrifina Myr though, now she is an interesting character. Mother of the Myrmaids. Her backstory was one I loved learning about and I still feel as though there is so much left to unveil regarding her character and how she came to be.
Ashleigh Bello is such a talented author and I'm so glad to have been able to read her works (and in advance too!! Thank you Ashleigh!!).
If anyone is looking for a spicy romantic fantasy..this is your book. In a world where magic is banned...how far would you go to seek something magical?
In the beginning, this book had me hooked and I was so excited for it because MERMAIDS. A Black Mermaid at that.
Then my interest began to fall off because it seemed more word building than anything, which would’ve been fine had it not felt like it was in every chapter. It began feeling repetitive with a hint of character involvement.
I really hate to admit but this book almost became a DNF and even still.. it kind of was. I picked it back up today for the first time in months. I read a chapter and was about to begin the next when I decided to just skip ahead to see if anything happens towards the end to keep me invested…. Eloise finally “did” what she’s been told needed to happen since I don’t know when.
Eloise was stubborn and arrogant to a fault that made her semi-unlikable. Like, I love a strong female lead, but this isn’t what she gave. And in the end, we see her stubbornness ultimately backlash in a detrimental way. I am curious to see what happens next, but I am also okay with imagining it.
I don’t even know where to begin... A Myrmaid’s Kiss completely took over my world in a way I never expected. The depth of emotion, the breathtaking world, and unforgettable characters had me hooked from the very first page. I don’t think I’ll ever be the same again… Even though it was a long read, I savored every moment. This book kept me on my toes and I found myself unwilling to put it down, desperate to know what would happen next. The story leaves spell so powerful that I felt truly immersed in its magic.
And noooooow I NEED part 2... Like absolutely right now! The way it ended left me feeding for more and I can’t wait to dive back into this mesmerizing world. If you were looking for a book that will enchant, captivate, and leave you breathless, A Myrmaid’s Kiss is it!
