I want this so badly to be a five star read but I think the best I can give it is a three star. I’d first read this book when it was published on wattpad and loved it. While I did love it back then, my reading tastes have since then evolved. There were issues I’d had reading it back then, but it was on wattpad so I’d given it some grace. When I heard the news that this story was turning into an actual published book I was beyond excited. But since finishing it I feel pretty conflicted and disappointed. To me there was parts I genuinely liked but others felt the same and/or worse to the wattpad version of the book.

First off the writing is just as cringey and immature as it originally was on wattpad. It didn’t feel like much of anything was changed. I went in expecting so much more than the wattpad version and was just let down.

While reading I was very disappointed that we didn’t get to see more of Ava’s healing journey. For a book that’s mainly centered around it we really don’t get to see too much (that’s too in depth). Yes we do get to see Jaxon handling one of her panic attacks and starting therapy but other than that we don’t see much.

I was hoping towards the end of the book we’d get to see more of the pack but we don’t. Since Jaxon is the Alpha of the pack I was expecting something more than what we got.

The whole Julia plot line just kinda pissed me off. Like I don’t know it was just icky overall (I just didn’t like how it and her character was written).

There were some things that were in the wattpad original version that I wished had made it into this one. This felt so much more cut down than the wattpad version. And there was some good stuff in there that could’ve improved in the published version.

I wished that there was more intention, development and information written into the story. Because even though the story covers heavy topics it still feels incredibly surface level (to me).

"Most people think home is a place, but to me, home is a person"

Sometimes, pain is all I feel. The heart-wrenching, soul-destroying kind. It's like a void in your heart that can never be fixed

"...but my heart didn't halve when I lost her. It doubled when I met you."

I was kindly offered this ARC by the author for an honest review.

This was my first delve into Werewolf shifter romance (unless you counted another very popular Vampire/Werewolf/Human romance) and I was not disappointed.
Whilst I found the beginning quite slow, it soon suddenly went into hyperdrive, and I found it hard to put the book down.

Whilst both of the main characters, Ava and Jaxon (Jax), have had a lot of past trauma, Ava has suffered far worse. However, this doesn't discourage her from being an almighty badass, and takes her PTSD by the balls in the end and shows it that she's in charge of herself.

This story has all the best tropes, for a sweet (and spicy), yet ferocious, romance (with action and suspense thrown in).
Romance
Fated Mates
Found family
Spice
Touch her and you'll be disposed of
Mental health/PTSD representation
Strong FMC

Ava has a deeply dark, disturbing and mentally scarring history, but the beautiful Jax is supportive, loyal and possessive helps to encourage Ava out of the dark void in her life to begin a whole new journey.
The side characters in this story, although they have a small reoccurring role, play a big part in the story, and I can only hope that they will get their own books so we can find out more about them.
My only grumble....the characters tend to spend a lot of time either "pressing their hand to their head" or having their heads in their hands (when you read it, you may notice too!)

’Most people think home is a place, but to me, home is a person.’ SIGHS.

First things first, I’ve never read an alpha/werewolf book before or anything along those lines since my teen wolf fanfiction days but I dunno, I think I’m converted now!

The starting of this book was very repetitive but reading the FMC working her way through her trauma was very heartbreaking at times. But the way that Jaxon waited and gave her space to work through everything she needed was the main reason I LOVED him and it meant everything that he allowed her to let him in and she fell for him on her own terms!!!

Can’t wait for the next book in the series!!

The twists and turns in combination with the emotional journey of the characters were extraordinary.

Raw in an almost unbearable way. The angst was a bit too much at times, but the greater plot was so good that I can tolerate being tortured for the plot. Also the romance aspect felt very romantic, with a beautiful patience from both wounded protagonists.

AND DON'T LET THE START ON THE DELICIOUSNESS OF THE SMUTTTT...

I've known author Savanna Rose for some time now. I stumbled upon her work on Wattpad and was immediately captivated by her writing talent. Savanna is not only incredibly kind and inclusive but also one of the most intelligent young writers I've come across in my nearly decade-long journey in this industry. If Savanna pens it, I promise you won't regret picking it up.

I want to thank the author for the ARC opportunity.

This story was beautifully written. The characters were given time to settle on the story and the relationship between them grew smoothly and organically, not rushed at all.
I think the mental health representation was great, explaining everything to the readers without being to much.

So happy for this authors first publication. I have been a fan of hers since her Wattpad days and can't wait to see what does next.

Thank you, Savanna, for the e-arc! I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to read this before it's official release date.

This is my first technical supernatural romance (shifter to be exact). And I was not disappointed.

This book has a little bit of everything (obviously we have our werewolves) we have fated mates, mental health and trauma rep alongside the found family trope!

Our FMC Ava is the one with the PTSD, and I appreciated how the author didn't brush aside her trauma for the sake of the romance. It was good to see how supportive Jax and his sister were towards her and her healing.

Shout out the Gemma for being a great therapist!

The plot was very Wattpad like which tbh I didn't mind. It was a great throwback to my Wattpad days, I did read this in technically 1 day period so to say I was entertained is spot on.

If you love a soft alpha MMC, this is a great book! He helps her with her panic attacks and is very considerate of her space and trauma.

Now I will be scouring the ends of Goodreads for more werewolf shifter recs, thanks Savanna for opening doors for me! Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Major emphasis !! Please read the Trigger warnings for this book.

(P.S. This book was written in British English)

Shifter books will always have a special place in my heart, but i also know that this book had so much more potential and I think that if we were given a bit more detail and intention to the story then it could have been fantastic.

I really like our main characters, they have their flaws but that doesn't stop them from being good or wanting to help those they love. It was angsty and heart stopping which the author did a great job with! But for a 400 page book we weren't given much, there were time skips during times I felt like we as readers should have seen and experienced with the characters - this is on the longer side of omegaverse books and we aren't given much, which is definitely something I would have liked to see more of.

Honestly I feel bad reviewing books as a 1 star but this was just not that great. The writing was insanely YA with NA themes and the plot was unsatisfying. Heaps of inconsistencies where it just pulls you out of the story.

"When I'm with you, everything feels right. You bring out the best in me. You are my anchor. You are everything I have ever wanted."

4 stars

I'm always excited to read new authors, especially in the shifter romance world, so when I stumbled upon Savanna Rose's debut novel I immediately added it to my tbr. I usually stay far away from the 'widow trope' as I don't like the messy and complicated emotions that come from a grieving MC, but I decided to take a chance on this story. And I'm glad I did.

The beginning of this novel felt a little repetitive for me as both Ava and Jaxon struggle to work through their past grief, trauma, and self-hatred. Ava and Jaxon are both broken when they first meet and must learn to deal with their past before they can work toward a future together. I loved watching Jaxon and Ava interact as they slowly learn to trust and love each other. Jaxon truly learns how to put Ava's needs before his own as she slowly heals, and I loved how supportive and patient he is with her....but I loved his alpha domineering side even more!

For me, the ending felt a little rushed, especially the pivotal scenes with Jaxon's prisoners. I wish we had gotten to see more of the action and a better explanation of WHY a certain character did the things she did as her reasoning felt too convenient and glossed over for me. I also want to know more about Ava's past, especially considering how much she transforms in the end. Overall however, I did enjoy this emotional debut novel. Ava's strength and Jaxon's patience were so amazing to see, and I cannot wait for more by S. Rose🖤

Tropes: fated mates, second chance mates, grieving hero, traumatized heroine, forced proximity, 'touch her and die' vibes, mental health and trauma rep, found family, SLOW BURN, hidden identity, STEAMY🔥

Trigger warning: sexual assault/rape (not by hero), verbal/physical abuse (not by hero), kidnapping/held in captivity, PTSD, self-harm

A beautiful paranormal romance that explores trauma and healing, a growing romance, fated bonds, and found family connections.
The dual POV helped to connect to both Ava and Jax, and I loved seeing their journey together. It was raw and emotional but so incredibly moving.
I loved the twists in this too, and the pacing felt just right.
Jaxon is incredibly patient, empathetic and caring, and the best match to help heal Ava.

4.5 stars!
A really deeply beautiful OV book that talk about a lot of sensitive topics so well. The development of Jax and Ava’s relationship was beautiful. Jax my man wow such a possessive selfless man who only wanted the best for Ava and it showed throughout the entire book. Ava is a fighter and learned that what happens in your past does not define you. Slow burn for sure and I’m giving it a 4.5 because it was just a little too long. Overall definitely recommend this M/F OV book.

ARC review - thank you so much for the early copy Savanna Rose, I feel honoured to be able to read this beautiful book before its official release date! This was everything I wanted and more. I’m shocked this is a debut novel as it was that good! It had me absolutely captivated. It jumps straight into the story of Jaxon and Ava, each individually with their own backgrounds and trauma that they need to work through. The mental health representation was phenomenal. The twists genuinely had me shocked as my theories were way off. I already need book 2!!

This was such a sweet story. It's full of dark subjects and trauma but turns out beautifully. Ava has has a very rough go at life. Stumbling into the wrong hands more than once. Until Jax crosses her path. Second chance mates are unheard of, she couldn't possibly be his mate... could she? Jax also has his own trauma. Losing his first mate in such a tragic way. This love story is devastating and healing. Jax and Ava were so lovely together. This was such a wonderful read!

A cute story. I’ve always been in love with werewolves, and honestly, there’s far too little written about them.
This book was intense, especially because of the abuse and violence, though there were some things I didn’t quite understand.

All in all, though, an enjoyable read

I just want to start by saying thank you to Savanna for sending me this book as an ARC, so thank you so much 😊

Okay so I’m gonna dive in and just say I LOVED THIS BOOK. I devoured this book in four days (I was meant to be doing other bits but this book kept me hooked) (four days is a personal best of mine as well)

Ava and Jax have my heart, they’re so adorable and the development of their relationship is perfect. Jax could’ve forced the bond between them but he was an absolute gentleman and just let this progress naturally which I really liked.

The story was well woven around the characters and I did not see the twist coming at all. I was prepared for it to go one way but then it went another and I loved it.

I think this book is very well written, there were a few sentences at the very beginning that were a little stunted but other than those I give this book five out of five stars.

I would highly recommend this book!!

I was so excited to read this book ever since the author announced it. Safe to say, this lived upto my expectations. I loved how beautiful the story was. The beginning with Ava’s trauma felt heart-wrenching. The mate bond was developed with care and was realistic. I cried for the scenes where Ava had her flashbacks. Jaxon was incredibly patient and caring towards her. Perfect book husband material. The plot was kept steady with a twist that I did not see coming at all. The steamy scenes were great when they finally came through. The wait was well paid for the slow burn. I enjoyed this read throughout and can’t wait to read more from the author. Above all, this is a book to read when you truly wish to believe in true love’s existence.

Title: Second Chance Mates
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

I want to start off by saying thank you to Savanna Rose for this opportunity to read her debut novel as an ARC. My review is completely my own, I just want to show my support to a budding, upcoming author!

This debut novel was amazing! As a first book it was written really well and had all the romance, spice, found family aspects and friendship along with some suspense added in to round it up nicely.

Ava’s strength is admirable after everything she has been through and continues to face causing setbacks from antagonistic characters who have abused her mentally and physically in her recent past.

Watching her grow and come out of her shell after going through so much and Jaxon, the MMC, being a constant support for her to be brave enough to open up helped her incredibly as her soulmate.

As mates Ava and Jaxon have a connection but there was a steady path that led her to be comfortable around him that meant the bond was able to grow throughout the book. I loved how when they mind linked, it was a deeper and emotional connection just between the two of them giving reassurance and encouragement through this way of communicating only to each other.

I loved how everything was explained, if you’re new to werewolf romances this is a perfect first book so you understand all the terms and everything that happens in their world. Even though I have read werewolf romances before it’s been a long time so it was nice to catch up on all the terminology again!

This is a slight slow burn, and understandably so after everything Ava has been through, the triggers putting her through a lot emotionally and mentally drain her especially after so many encounters with her horrible past. Her friendship with Lucy, Jaxon’s sister, initially helps her then open up to other characters and pack members.

The pack are a family and protect their own, and now that Ava is Luna, mated to Jaxon who is their Alpha, it means that they are willing to do anything to help and keep safe.

There are so many twists and turns keeping it exciting and finding out what’s going to happen next was thrilling. Some were more unexpected than others but it kept me hooked to find out what would follow on after each page.

I’m really looking forward to book two in the Fated Souls series, I have an idea who it could be about and I’m very excited to find out if it’s going to be about them as well as seeing all these lovely characters again!

Please make sure to read the trigger warnings provided at the start of the book, if anything makes you uncomfortable then please do not read this book, there’s nothing wrong with knowing your limits!

If you would like to read this book, release date is 31st May!

Okay, it’s official: I am now obsessed with shifter romances!!

I’ve always been a huge fan of fantasy werewolf books, as they are my absolute favourite supernatural being, but this took my love for werewolves to the next level.

Reading Second Chance Mates was like a was like being wrapped in a huge, snuggly blanket and constantly being reminded how loved you are. It was such a refreshing read that caused me so many happy and cheesy emotions.

Imagine Haunting/Hunting Adeline, but with a MMC who actually loves, respects and cares for the FMC, understands her boundaries, protects her at all costs and forms a deep connection on trust and consent. This was an absolute joy to read, and while I don’t like to compare books or authors, it truly made me rethink my reviews of the HA duology, because maybe they weren’t as good as I originally thought they were. You never know your food was bland until you eat at a Michelin Star Restaurant!

But honestly, I am not normally a romance fan. I find them too cheesy, too unrealistic and just overall boring. The plots normally aren’t as integral or as deep rooted as fantasy books. So maybe reading shifter romances is the best way to bridge that gap between my love for Fantasy and my hesitation to read Romance! This book gave me hope that maybe one day I will enjoy a Romance book!!

Second Chance Mates had so many insane moments, plot twists, page turning chapters and some beautifully written characters, all while making me feel like I was wrapped up in an epic love story.

The PTSD and trauma representation in this book was done so respectfully it actually made me feel pride to read. Not only did the characters respect Ava’s trauma, but I feel like the author did too.

If you are a Fantasy, Romantasy or just a Romance lover, I cannot recommend this book to you enough! It hit the spot in all the right places: The plot, the spice, the characters, the twists and turns, and the LGBTQ+ and trauma representation.

Second Chance Mates was an enjoyable, fast paced paranormal romance though it took some unexpected turns throughout.

On the whole, I had a great time reading this book! It's dual POV between Ava and Jaxon, and I liked both of them as narrators. Though the beginning of the book is a bit repetitive, Savanna Rose was evidently careful in making sure she didn't gloss over either of their traumas (especially Ava, given her history before she meets Jaxon).

It's also totally plausible that I missed a time jump, but I also thought their relationship progressed super quickly around the 20-25% mark. Before then, Ava was still being quite hesitant to spend any time with Jax, and yet after that it seems like she's completely come out of her shell (by comparison - she's still got a ways to go overall at this point in the book).

Despite this, their relationship was so sweet and I loved getting to see them become closer. Jax was great in giving Ava space and time to overcome what happened to her and trust him (both as a man in general and a romantic partner), despite part of him wanting to rush into things as she's his mate.

The side characters were a nice bonus, but I didn't really feel overly connected to any of them. Perhaps this will change when - I assume - we get their POV books, and we get to spend a little more time with them, who knows. I also would have liked to see a little more of the paranormal side of the book - i.e. more wolves and things to do with werewolves, aside from exploring the mating bond.

It's not so much of a complaint, but I really did not see some of the twists in this book coming! I thought the book was going to be character-focused and 'quiet' all the way through, and out of nowhere comes the apparently-main-plot 😂 I enjoyed this aspect by the end of it, but it definitely took me by surprise and wasn't what I was expecting from the book going into it. In hindsight though, the clues were there!

Overall, despite some of the issues I've mentioned, I did really enjoy Second Chance Mates and would recommend it! It was more of a 'palette cleanser' book in my experience, but I flew through it in a matter of hours and would happily continue reading this series, or any other books from Savanna Rose.

This book is fantastic. It's a real journey of healing and self-love.
There's a wolf shifter MMC whose mate has been killed and a human FMC who been through trauma with her first mate, and together, they get a second chance.

Jax was amazing, such a supportive and caring guy, and he really shows Ava all the love and support she needs to get through her trauma. He helps her grow and develop and become stronger because of it but never taking credit for anything, emphasising it is her that is taking the steps. I don't think anyone could ask for a better partner. He's definitely ideal man material, and it doesn't hurt that he's a hunky wolf shifter either.

Getting to see Avas' journey is amazing. It feels real and not forced. I can imagine anyone who has been through trauma would feel similar. She works hard to help herself and ultimately realises that her feelings are not wrong and she deserves love.

I loved this book. It was a slow burn. Even though there's a mate bond, you get to see the characters build a relationship of trust. But once those sparks start flying, they are hot. I wanted to shout for joy with how proud I was at Ava for taking charge of her life and making her own decisions.

If you love a story with wolf shifters, fated mates, literal touch her and ☠️, dual POV, trauma/mental health rep, journey of healing, and found family, then this is a book for you. Pick it up, you will not regret it.

An absolutely stunning debut! I was so excited to read this and it did not disappoint!

Second Chance Mates is a beautiful, heart-wrenching, soul-soothing, paranormal romance. It touches on some very deep, emotional topics in a sensitive, thorough way, but also intersperses the story with light-hearted, sweet chapters, and side stories to make the whole book well-balanced.

I just want to wrap Ava up in my arms and hold her all day because she deserves only the best. Though her story is harrowing, Savanna does a beautiful job at writing her healing journey, showing that healing may not be linear, but you can still grow stronger each day. Jaxon is also the most caring sweetheart, whilst also being so swoon-worthy and soooo hot when it came to the spicy scenes. He is the gold-standard book boyfriend, giving Ava all the space and care she needs, and every time I read a scene with him in, especially when he was looking out for Ava, I wanted to shout 'YOU ARE SO PERFECT!'

The twist at the end of the book was SO UNEXPECTED, I LOVED IT! The whole story has been so well-thought out that this worked so well, and really made the book feel like it ended full-circle.

Savanna you have done such a gorgeous job at this book! I will remember this for a long time, and cannot wait for the next one!!

I have been reading Savanna’s writing since she was posting on Wattpad. Always been a big fan of her work and to see her publishing her work fills me with so much joy inside. I’m so incredibly grateful and honoured to have read her Arc.

This book is beautiful inside and out, writing it’s absolutely amazing. Savanna demonstrates Ava’s journey brilliantly, she didn’t just focus on the plot, she took Ava’s character and made her real. Someone that you can easily connect with and identify with, which I personally believe is never really found in most triggering books. She shows Ava’s good and bad days and never puts a time limit on her healing journey. She showed the important role of family and friends being there to support you and the impact it had on her self-esteem, confidence and her mental health.

This book is truly inspiring. Ava is such a bad ass! Jaxon is a sweetheart inside and out, being patient with Ava and never pushing her past her limits. He showed that there is more to life then that torturous time of her life. He gave her a safe place to grow and blossom into an incredible Luna for their pack.

I can tell this book is going to be one of those that will change a readers life, will help them with their healing journey.

I can not wait for the rest of the series, congratulations Savanna I am so proud of you. 💕 xx

Second chance mates by savanna rose arc this book was extremely enjoyable from beginning to end I couldn’t put it down. Also can we talk about how beautiful and stunning the cover art is I just love it. This is her debut novel and it was so epic. This book has so many amazing book tropes like fated mates , found family, forced proximity and mental health representation that was so touching. So in this story we see two heartbroken soul find a second chance a love healing and peace with each other. Jaxon is an alpha who is dealing with the lost of his mate when he think he be alone forever , until he meet Ava a girl on the run from dangerous people. He find out Ava is his second chance mate a thing is believed to be myth. The more time they spend together they begin to heal and open their hearts to each other. This book was an emotional rollercoaster for me. I fell in love with the story of overcoming your trauma, love after loss and second chances. I feel Savanna Rose has taken on very hard subject matters and handled them with the up most care and respect. I found myself loving the characters & the found family vibes. Savanna has created a solid foundation for future books by creating characters that the audience can become attached too. I loved watching Jaxon & Ava’s relationship grow & strengthen. It felt authentic and definitely not rushed despite them being fated mates. I’m now fascinated by the idea of werewolves & what story will come next from this author. Admittedly this book is not spicy until the last 70% so I would class this as a SLOW burn🔥 but it’s entirely realistic after the trauma Ava endured. For a debut book, this book will not be entirely perfect but what debut book is? It definitely could have done with being a little shorter as I felt like the storyline dragged on towards the end. But I can wholeheartedly say that this author has put a lot of thought & care into her characters and I’m positive her writing will only continue to improve as time goes on.

Will Kayden finally find his mate in the next book? I’m curious to find out!🤩🐺❤️‍🔥

Review:
I was so honored to be an ARC reader for Second Chance Mates, and honestly, if I could read it for the first time again, I absolutely would!! This is such a beautiful novel as a whole, but fair warning, it does start with the main characters fighting to get out of their own darkness.

Without giving anything away, my biggest kudos to the author for being able to write what it is like to survive trauma and the process of healing. As someone who has survived trauma of a similar yet different kind, this book moved me emotionally because it was captured so well. Healing is not linear and Savanna portrayed that in such an admirable way. Thank you!!

I gave this novel five stars because it’s hard to find a first book in a series that isn’t just a set-up style novel; lots of world building, shaping characters, but little progress in the plot. This book was done so well that it not only set up for more in the series, but we truly got to grow with the characters in the short time we have with them, learn more about the world they are in, while furthering the plot and keeping you in your toes for what’s to come.

Huge Kudos to Savanna Rose, I’m truly looking forward to whatever comes next for Ava and Jax, as well as yourself!

While this book is not heavy in the spice department (only a scene or two) the quality of spice is *chefs kiss*!! So while others may rate it lower, especially if you read books like The Ritual, the way Savanna has written them is just enough to get you going.
