Building Small Projects offers ways to build skills by completing useful items. From the editors of Fine Woodworking-the dream team of woodworking professionals-this is the ultimate visual reference for woodworkers of every skill level.
A great introduction to fine wood working. I should note this book is designed for an entry-mid level fine wood worker and not written for DIY'er unless that person is looking to get a bit more serious with wood working, most projects require some form of hand tools(chisels, planes and marking gauges/scribes). This book is a bit older but the classic techniques presented here stand the test of time and would look just as good in your grand parents house in the 70's as they will now. I used this when I first started out and enjoyed the fact that I could spend a weekend making something out of a few board feet of wood vs the more commonly presented larger projects from the magazine. I don't think I'd of started wood working in any serious capacity if I had to spend $500 for 40 board feet of wood to get started and it was nice being able to practice different joints in a variety of smaller projects before I attempted a larger piece where an error would be more costly. Overall this was a great lead and if you can find it for a decent price(commonly available used) I'd highly recommend it.
