Provides surprising cultural insights about the Japanese at home, at work, and at play and contains numerous anecdotes and trivia about Japan and its people
Though this book was written in the 80's it still seems pretty relevant. It was written by a Western marketing executive who worked in Japan for 20 years and is fluent in Japanese. It turns out consumer trends are incredibly telling of a society and this was a fascinating cultural comparison book that explained many things I had noticed living in Japan. I even found myself explaining tidbits about Japanese culture from the book to foreign friends fluent in Japanese, so it is a very worthwhile read for anyone interested in nuances of Japanese consumer culture. It seems we are what we buy..
