Summary:
Draco has spent the last 4 years in Azkaban and one day received a letter from Hermione. She writes trying to convince him to let her and the Incarceration Reform Union help get him out of Azkaban, along with others who were underage and under duress during the war.
While Draco refuses Hermione at first, he eventually agrees with the stipulation that they don't discuss his case and she continues to write him letters. Turns out Hermione's letters give Draco a spark of happiness when he expects nothing but misery and loneliness for the rest of his life. Hermione also finds herself looking forward to Draco's letters since she's on the outs with most of her friends who don't agree with the work she's doing.
And after writing back and forth for more than a year, this unlikely pair develops a beautiful friendship that eventually leads to something more.
My Thoughts:
I absolutely adored this fanfic! It's unique, compelling, romantic, and sweet. Definitely one of my favorite short stories!
The story concept is unique! I've never read a Dramione fanfic where Draco is in Azkaban and Hermione corresponds with him. This really allowed for the story to focus on character and relationship development more than the typical smut you get in most Dramione fanfics. In this story, Draco and Hermione are able to fall in love with each other for who they are as individuals instead of the focus being on their physical chemistry.
The fact that it's 100% entirely an epistolary is incredible. The letters start off very short and are full of amazing banter and humor but as Draco and Hermione's relationship develops, the letters get longer and the content gets deeper. There's an honesty in their letters exchanges that would be difficult to replicate during a face to face interaction. It's just such a unique way to write a story, and I loved it!
Draco and Hermione's relationship is beautiful. What starts as nothing more than work related notes turns into love letters. Both Hermione and Draco find in each other someone who is willing to listen and not judge, provide candid advice, and makes the other laugh. But most importantly, they are honest with one another about their weaknesses and fears, and offer unyielding support and comfort. Even if they are bantering or discussing something serious, there's still an ease to their conversations. This Dramione relationship is truly something special.
Draco is incredibly soft and I'm in love with him. Draco has been in Azkaban for years and accepted that he would likely die there. So when Hermione offers him a chance at freedom and friendship, it's sad to see how desperate he is for those things but it's also beautiful when he decides he's worthy enough to accept them. Draco actively chooses to let go of his past self and strive for something better. He is funny, sarcastic, clever, charming, kind, and warm for someone who has been kept in a cell for as long as he has. He's also an absolute flirt and romantic. I actually got butterflies a few times from the things he wrote to Hermione. 🦋
Overall, Until The Ink Runs Dry is a beautiful, romantic Dramione story that will make you feel so many (good) things. I definitely recommend it if you love a soft Draco and HEAs.

This is a reread for Christmas. It's just so, so good and the epistolary nature of it all made it so unique. Years after the war is over, Draco is in Azkaban and Hermione is trying to get all her wrongfully convicted classmates out. There's no spice at all, but it's sweet and angsty, and I'm immediately on my way to reread the one shot that goes after the ending here.
4.5 may god bless the dinosaur that died to make the fossil fuel that was treated to become petrol in the car that took acciomjolnir’s mother to the hospital to give birth to them
Truly I never expected to read a dramione fanfic, because I didn't understand why everyone wanted them together, but this changed my mind🫠 It was sweet, and now I want more😑
The epistolary format was enchanting. The most romantic dramione I've ever read, it healed something in me. When Draco said he has the most beautiful cell in Azkaban because of the paper crane she sent, I teared up.
This was sweet. I’ve never read an epistolary so it was unique. I enjoyed it but I did feel it like it may have dragged a bit. But I think that’s just because of the story being letters. I love the progression from short, to-the-point letters to the long, descriptive, emotional ones. I like the concept of Hermione working to get her peers out of Azkaban, at least the ones who didn’t deserve to be there. It felt true to who Hermione’s canon character is. I’m always interested in how the authors create Draco to be a wonderful character and so far I have enjoyed each one. I adore a good Dramione and this did not disappoint.
{3,5⭐️ só porque não foi isso tudo, mas nem era suposto ser, so it’s okay}
This was SO cute. I loved the format of letters back and forth. Since this is a fanfic, I’m choosing to believe it ended with a letter from Draco to Hermione that he left on the kitchen counter saying something like “I’m so glad to be here with you. Have a good day at work. See you for dinner. Yours, Draco”
“You've got a kind of irritating unyielding thing about you that I have never seen in people around me and you seem willing to give it to everyone without hesitation, whether or not it hurts you to do it. Of course you do the job you do. Of course you're helping me and Pansy and Theo. You're just overflowing with this sense of... I don't even know what. Excessive goodness, I guess. Don't think that I don't recognize you have given me a chance for some reason when the rest of the world would like to see me dead.”

I MUST READ THE SEQUEL IMMEDIATELY. LOWKEY I WANTED THE ACTUAL RESOLUTION BUT IM NOT MAD. THIS WAS SOFT PERFECTION. Everything I could’ve wanted after LIATOTZA!!! I love them so much!! How was this story so short & yet captured them so perfectly? A certified HIT.
One of my all time favs now. Ugh, how gorgeous to read the dialogue between these two in the form of letters alone and see them fall in love in under 200 pages. I inhaled this like a starved person and I’m now reading the follow up fic ‘Indelible ink’ immediately. Fluff me into a coma please. 🫶🏼
So sweet and unique. 4.5 rounded up. All letters from Hermione to Draco while he’s in Azkaban. She works w Dean to get many classmates out of Azkaban. Draco’s trial is last.
I loved everything about this. Draco has been in Azkaban for 4 years. Hermione works for a organization that is trying to get all the teenagers from the war released. They start out writing about meeting his solicitor and they fall in love as their letters get longer.
I love the whole thing written in letters between the two. It was adorable.
2.5 (2.75 if being generous or guilty about giving it a bad score) I did not hate it, I do want to clarify that. But it was just so...mediocre. There was no great plot of course but it wasn't that great that it could be regarded as a character-driven book. Most of all, I wouldn't have cared if it was fun to read in itself but it wasn't. I found it incredibly dull- the banter was basically absent that's how flat it fell. But then i was thinking draco is in azkaban, i can't expect him to be making jokes all the time. Sometimes, the plot and characters aren't that great in fics but i still enjoy them because they are just so cute and wholesome (fanservice i guess): where we get to see glimpses of family life that harry and the weasleys have and other people from hogwarts. But this didn't have that either. So, it just felt incredibly lacking and i was disappointed because it was on the top-tier Dramione shelf in my head (from exposure to the fandom). P.S. Not really holding it against this book (because i know it's epistolary and hence has to end before they see each other/the trial) the lack of an ending in the true sense doesn't do it any favours.
This was SO good, and just what I needed to boost me back into the reading mood after a series of flops. I loved the epistolary nature of how this was written. It was very pride and prejudice, regency, romantic. It made me wanna write my own love letters. The depth explored in this was also surprising despite the short length of the fic. Would recommend to Dramione readers if you need something cozy, cute, and silly!
How fucking lovely was that. I love letters, It's the form of communication I wish we could bring back on occassion.. going on that journey with them, falling in love one letter at a time was beautiful. And the epilogue OS after was the cherry on top of the massive cake. Loved every second of this. It didn't take me long to finish after starting it. One of my favorite short stories now. 🤌🏻✨️

I NEED the full novel, epistolary is cute and way better than I’d thought but please I need a 500,000+ word story about everything in between the letters
UPDATE: There’s another 3 parts 🫶🏽🫶🏽 i love them but i still want the whole novel pls & thx
“my love, my light, my dazzling unicorn” oh blaise the man that you are
