Zaren, the Queen's Blade, is on his own now after the betrayal and treason of his mentor. He isn't alone, however, as Asi, another Blade, the Investigators and Constables have allied with him in defense of the capital. The capital is never completely safe as it is the target of various enemies. Mysterious explosions are taking place, unexplained fires, nefarious magic and their constructs are appearing seemingly at random even as the Queen lies in a sickbed with a strange malady. The Guild, a cryptic group of assassins have an agent in the city as well. Zaren has his hands full. Good book. Looking forward to the next one.
Another solid entry in the Queen’s Blade saga. Holmberg does a great job creating his world and populating that world with some very interesting characters. If you like thrilling adventure, fast action, mystery, a bit of mayhem, all mixed with a smattering of magic, you will enjoy this series. But, please, read the in order for it all to make sense.
