When my sister takes in a domestic violence victim and her kid, I know I need to help. I don’t really have the time, not while dealing with my crew and a persistent cop harassing us, but when I see them bruised and terrified, I can’t say no. I’m trying to stay professional, but the more time I spend with them, the more I want to keep them. When the harassment from the cops picks up, I can’t afford to be distracted. My crew is my priority. But I can’t just abandon them.
A.F. Montoya is a daydreamer turned writer who writes contemporary mafia romances. She’s been reading romance novels since her mother bought her one as a joke when she was a teen and now writes them and shares them with her mother, much to her chagrin. She enjoys reading in her spare time and supporting other authors. When she isn’t writing or thinking about new book ideas she is supporting her husband and kids.
Melissa is an abused woman desperate for a fresh start with her daughter, she runs when she has the opportunity. Needing legal help though she finds herself under the protection of an MC and their President. Lines get crossed and both find themselves falling for one another, but the threat to Melissa is still out there.
Enjoyable read, the MC is more tame then other MC books so that was a bit of a surprise. Good chemistry, fast paced read.
So, I read book one, right? I already knew this wasn’t some dark and gritty, leather-drenched MC world. I wasn’t expecting bodies to drop or tires to screech in a drug deal gone wrong. But I also wasn’t expecting… this. Like, babe, someone needs to call 911 because the “MC” part of this book is missing and possibly being held hostage at a suburban BBQ.
Let’s be real: this book is cute. Like, Hallmark-movie-on-a-Sunday cute. The romance? Sweet. The vibes? Chill. But that title? That “MC” branding? Absolutely criminal. What I got was a leather jacket over a Target tee, and the only thing we’re ridin’ is a bike to the local farmer’s market.
Let’s break this down with the energy it deserves:
✶ The Title is STILL a Full-On Catfish. Okay, let’s talk about this MC label. The marketing for this book is an absolute joke. It’s sold as a biker book, but there’s no crime, no gritty club politics, no dangerous anything. It’s like the author slapped an “MC” on a light romance and hoped nobody would notice. There’s no outlaw anything going on here - just a bunch of people who like motorcycles, and I guess that's cool, but don't fool me into thinking I’m about to get a Sons of Anarchy experience when I’m really just getting a cute rom-com with some bike rides in the mix.
✶ Those Club Titles Are Giving Dress-Up. We’re talking President and Vice President, but it feels like a costume party with no rules. Real MCs have responsibility. They handle drama, they get into trouble, they have actual duties. But these titles are just for show. Every time someone says, "I'm the President,"I'm just like, Of what, exactly? A group that occasionally rides bikes on weekends?
✶ Are We a Club, Crew, or Community Center? So here’s the thing: They call themselves a “Crew,” but they’re using MC titles, and I’m just sitting here, wait, are we in a crew or a club? Like, what is happening? Is this a biker gang or a support group for motorcycle enthusiasts? It’s giving me whiplash, and not in a fun way. Either go full MC or don’t. Pick a side, people. The confusion is real.
✶ Drama? Nonexistent. Here’s the kicker: something bad happens, and instead of handling it like an actual MC (you know, like we’re supposed to expect from these “Presidents” and “VP”), they call the cops. I was like, Wait, WHAT?! That’s not MC behavior. It’s like tuning in for a thriller and getting a family sitcom instead. Absolutely not what I signed up for.
✶ The Romance? Cute, But Kinda Meh. Our leading man is hot, sure. He’s got the charm, the leather jacket, maybe even a growly line or two. But his idea of being a “bad boy” is picking up takeout and flirting responsibly. The female lead? Sweet, likable. The chemistry? Mild salsa at best. There were no “touch her and die” vibes. Just… “I will help you co-parent politely.” Cute, but no fire alarms were pulled.
If you’re in the mood for a soft, sweet, drama-free romance where the motorcycles are basically set dressing? Honey, go ahead and cozy up with this one. You’ll finish it in an afternoon and walk away thinking, “Aww.” And that’s totally fine!
But if you cracked this baby open expecting danger, dominance, and that delicious chaos that actual MC romances bring? Abort mission. This is not your book. This is not your series.
Honestly? I’m low-key mad at how cute it was. Because I wanted to hate it, but I kinda didn’t? Still mad about the false advertising though.
I hated how things were for Maggie and Zoey when the book opened, was glad that she knew she could seek out Melissa for help. Of course with Melissa came the whole MC. And while that was overwhelming for both Maggie and Zoey at first, with time this was the best place for them. They both got to see how big of goof balls the guys were and had built in protection with them. Sadly they needed that protection when Maggie's ex lost his mind and came after her.
It was fun to see Wyatt instantly step up to help Maggie and Zoey and how smitten he was with them both. He was right there with Maggie as she started to take back her life and saw what life with a good man could be like. That led too her being there for Wyatt when things with the club went to shit with the police. I'm glad things were cleared up in that aspect and I look forward to see what happens next on that front.
The ending was good, nice to see all the bad things cleared up so that Wyatt, Maggie and Zoey can just focus on building a life together.
On a side note, I really hate Wyatt's law partner, even the "good" she did at the end, doesn't make me like her, I wish she would just go away.
Four stars for Melissa and Prez. I deducted the last star because the author said the biker was going for a drive, when bikers go for a ride. Big difference. Also, they were motorcycle lovers, not bikers. Although you can't help but love these goofball perpetual children playing at being a biker. I did love the cutsie scenes between the guys and the kids. The main two characters were good together, but I do question how easily Melissa's ex go the drop on Wraith toward the end. Mike was not that good of a guy to be able to do that to Wraith. The plot was well thought out, and the bad cops were a nice add, but then they wrapped it up to fast. Also, what was up with Danielle being the way she was and then all of a sudden, sweeping in at the end to save them all in court. I want to deduct a star for this, but overall, the book was an entertaining read. I will read the next one in the series once it comes out.
This is the second book , in the series. It was Awesome!!! I was hook, from the first chapter. This book kept me entertained, wanted to know what going to happen next, feeling sorry for them, kept my attention, rollercoaster ride, President, Single mom, trying to free his brother while protecting them, entertaining, unpredictable, dirty cops, wonderful characters, didn't want it to end, glad they got more books next, domestic violence, abuse, MC President, hurt child, Police hate his club, Love Maggie, PRZ and Zoey, Trying to help his brother in jail while trying to protect her and Zoey from her ex, his partner is jealous of her, she helping him, will be a Great old lady if she said " Yes"?, Spicy, chaos, Best friend brother, and So Much More. Love it!!!!!
Absolutely - 2nd story In the series. Follows the prez and his client who is a victim of DV. The family, the love, the cute moments. The constant presence of the kids in the previous story and this story. I loved seeing the larger mc family continue to play such a large role. I feel like these stories really bring every character in the crew into it while you take the journey with the MMC and FMC.
I am a fan of AF Montoya and can't wait for the next stories in this set to come out and I have their other books on my TBR.
This is such an amazing series and I loved the book! The storyline was and characters were well written and just so thought out. I love how the story doesn't just focus on here the main couple but the whole MC
I just finished this wonderful book, but my platform would not let me rate it🤔, So here I am trying to give it a little justice This author is new to me and I'm already loving her storytelling😍 I don't know what took me so long to find her, but I'm glad I did! Can't wait till the next story!
Wyatt (Prez) and Maggie were so cute together! I enjoyed their story. Wyatt was so good with little Zoey and I loved seeing more of the side characters. However, I didn’t like how Wyatt was into Danielle at first and some of his inner thoughts about her.
