Jennie Finchley (FMC) lives a privileged life as a member of the most prominent family in Independence, MO. Jennie returns from a dance one night to find her beloved brother Alex hiding in her room. Alex had been disowned by their father a year prior when Alex left the family and joined an outlaw gang. Once again, Alex’s father throws him out of the family home. Jennie is distraught and determined to help her brother, so she makes arrangements for the siblings to join a wagon train to Oregon. In order to secure their place on the wagon train, Jennie steals a kiss from and then poses as the fiancé of the wagon master. Alex poses as her driver. The journey transforms their lives, as well as those that travel with them, forever.

Benjamin Hale (MMC), the trail master, has been traveling the Oregon Trail for ten years with his sister Myra by his side. Love is in the air as the members of the wagon train experience many hardships and threats along their journey.

I can’t write more about the story without giving away spoilers, but I can say that I enjoyed this story and the characters. There were a lot of side characters, but each added to the story in a meaningful way. The plot was good, somewhat predictable, yet enjoyable. There is a slow burning, innocent romance building throughout the book. Fans of western romance, wagon trains, outlaw gangs, and fake relationship tropes may enjoy this book.

This is a good book. Even though I was given a copy of this book by the author, it in no way influenced my opinion and this is my honest review.
