Taylah Evans doesn’t hate love, she just hates what it did to her.
After her boyfriend of two years does the unthinkable, Taylah’s hurt and bitterness is expressed on paper when she starts writing for the Gazettes advice column Cupid’s Kiss. The thing is, Taylah isn't feeling the tiny love god anymore and wants the rest of the town to feel the same way.
When someone unexpected reveals the feelings that he’s been keeping from her, can Taylah trust that Stupid Cupid is on her side this time around or will she push the one person who’s always been there for her away and give up on love completely?
Hey I really enjoyed this book. It was such a cute read. I ain't gone lie I was worried it was gonna be too wholesome, but it had a perfect balance.
Kenver and Taylah are best friends that basically run Kenver's family newspaper the Loveland Gazette in the sweet town of Loveland Falls. Yessss let's get immersed in love. They have been friends for over a decade and have a special type of love. Taylah finds herself completely crushed after breaking up with a fboy. At the same time Kenver is in a bind and needs help after his columnist leaves ...from there Stupid Cupid is born. The stories that were shared through the column, were a little controversial and I loved it. I mean what y'all got going on in Loveland 🤣 I also loved that it unlocked a new level to their relationship. These two could not get enough of each other. They had some challenges shifting to "more," but it was mostly out of trying to protect one another.
This book was really sweet, but we got some spice and it flowed perfectly.
This was a friends to lovers story done right! Ok Ms. Genesis I see you, I will have to check out more of her work.
I can't help but fall for the Friends to Lover cliche. What a delightful and endearing love tale! I loved this book. Best friends Taylah and Kenver manage the Loveland Gazette, which is the family newspaper in the charming town of Loveland Falls. They share a distinctive type of love and have been friends for a long time. In my opinion, the connection between Kenver and Taylah flourished into a lovely thing. Kenver enlists the aid of his right-hand woman and best friend Taylah after the Cupid's Kiss columnist resigns from the publication. The column was supposed to be about love and relationships, but Taylah was in the midst of a terrible breakup when she unintentionally named herself the match breaker by responding passionately to a Cupids Kiss question. Chile this town had mess and it was mostly the women doing the dirt. The concept appealed to me. We sensed the passion between Kenver and Taylah, but I would have liked to have seen more of it. I would be open to reading about Skaliar or Kenver's siblings in a book. The town is very interesting to me.
What a fun read. Taylah and Kenver are besties running the town newspaper together. They have been inseparable since freshman orientation and know everything about the other. You could sense the intense love they shared, that was right under the surface waiting to be explored. I couldn't wait to see how it all played out.
Taylah was devastated by her boyfriend's betrayal, gave the middle finger to love, and all those that surrounded themselves with it. 💔 So, when Kenver asks her to pen responses to the Cupid's Kiss column, she accepts her friend's request, with a lil twist. I hollered so loud when she bucked the damn system and answered letters drunk and bitter as stupid cupid! 🤣 It may have seemed bad, but the town was eating that ish up! Lawd they had some messy ish going on in the town on Loveland. 🤣 The letters that came in were hysterical, but her responses were even more turned up!
Kenver! 😍 This man was crazy about his best friend, and would do anything for her, I mean anything. He loved his position at the Gazette, but Taylah's happiness meant more to him, even if it meant going against his family.
I really enjoyed this, and hope that we hear more from Kenver's brothers, especially Graham. Great read! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Friends to Lovers, count me in!! I loved this book so much; it was sweet, humorous, and a true love story. The fact that the book is set in a city called “Loveland Falls” it was a not a surprise that the new Stupid Cupid column would be the talk of the town. After the writer for the Cupid’s Kiss column quit the newspaper, Kenver asks his right hand and bff, Taylah, to help in the interim. The column was about love and relationships, but, Taylah was going through an awful breakup and accidentally submitted an emotionally driven response to a Cupids Kiss inquiry, subsequently naming her the match breaker. I loved the premise of this story, it reminded me of the Strawberry Letters - when people from all over the world have questions about their relationships, except in this case it is written in a paper.
The relationship between Kenver and Taylah was so stinking cute because as soon as Kenver made his feelings known he went head first into being her man! Whew, I loved everything about his character. He had a quirkiness to him but it worked and he definitely was packing the BDE! Taylah almost fumbled him towards the end. I understood what she was trying to do but she should have trusted that Kenver had her back- like he always came through for her so she shouldn’t have expected anything less than. 😬But fret not, my girl came to her senses in the end. Ugh, I loved it and all the Valentine’s Day references.
The author who delivers a good time each time is in my house. She fills all my time with great reads, and the author delivered another one. Stupid Cupid was a drunken rant by Taylah in response to a request for advice from a reader of the local Gazette newspaper. Do people still read newspapers? Anyway, the result of that request landed Kenver and Taylah on a collision course with a friendship to more deal. Did I say how much I loved mild-mannered -Clark Kentish Kenver? That man had me swooning with his love and support for his best friend and his forever love, Taylah. You need to read this one.
I love the cover of this book, but the story was just okay. I'm always here for a friends to lovers trope, but it seemed like some things were kinda forced in Taylah and Kenver's relationship. I think I would've enjoyed this more if there were more stories from the Supid Cupid column because those were top tier and left me speechless.
Welcome back, Ms. Genesis, your pen game is still dope. I always enjoyed this trope when I read it because the friends to lovers hit differently. I stand by the fact that having a solid friendship makes the best relationship. Kenver and Taylah had built a strong foundation over the years that couldn't be broken no matter who came into their lives. Taylah came through for him at a time when he needed her the most at the Loveland Gazette. The advice she gave through the Stupid Cupid column may have been more real than Kenver's grandfather liked, but it was what the small town needed. The people of the town relished from the advice because they kept writing in to get more. The publishing from the column acted like a therapy session to some. Kenver and Taylah's love for each other seeped into the pages of the Gazette.
Ms. Woods, I like the way this series is headed. I am ready to read the other stories that are going to develop as the series continues. I am particularly interested in Graham. He was somewhat mysterious, so that intrigued me even more. I would love to read about him finding love again.
Friends to lovers is one of my favorites but only when done right. Well this my book friends was done right to me. This book was so cute and spicy along with some relationship, family and town drama.
We follow best friends Taylah and Kenver (such cute names) as they run a newspaper for Loveland Falls. I really adored this town with the name and all the businesses having to deal with love in some way. Honey not only did the characters have their own bs going on but Loveland falls and surrounding towns had some messy love lives. The Stupid Cupid column was perfectly named and had the right person answering them questions.
Anyways enough about all of that. Kenver DID NOT PLAY about his best friend. He already did whatever for her but once she was his baby he was DEEP in her. They couldn’t get enough of each other and i loved that for them.
This was the absolute sweetest book. Taylah and Kenver made me smile for sure. It was inevitable that they would be together, and I loved that even in their toughest times the picked each other up. This was a super cute story, never a dull moment.
Taylah Evans is not averse to love itself, but rather to the pain and betrayal it has inflicted upon her. When her two-year relationship ends in an unforgivable manner, Taylah's heartache finds an outlet in her writing as she takes on the role of advice columnist for the Gazette's column, "Cupid's Kiss." However, her once-beloved Cupid now feels like a mockery, and Taylah desires nothing more than to spread her disillusionment to the rest of the town.
Just as Taylah's cynicism towards love seems unshakeable, someone unexpected steps forward, revealing hidden feelings for her. Caught off guard by this revelation, Taylah must confront her deep-seated distrust of love. Will she be able to put her faith in Stupid Cupid once more, or will she push away the one person who has consistently supported her, resigning herself to a loveless existence?
"Stupid Cupid" by Genesis explores themes of heartbreak, betrayal, and the possibility of redemption in the face of cynicism. Through Taylah's journey, readers are invited to question their own perceptions of love and whether it's worth risking vulnerability for the chance of finding true connection. With a blend of wit, emotion, and relatable characters, Genesis crafts a compelling narrative that keeps readers engaged until the very end. Whether you're a hopeless romantic or a skeptic of love's power, "Stupid Cupid" offers a poignant exploration of the complexities of the heart.
I loved this book! It gave me everything I didn’t even realize I needed. I loved the relationship between Taylah and Kenner and their transition from best friends to lovers was basically seamless, with only a little hiccup that was resolved. I loved how protective and supportive they were of each other. I’m looking forward to getting more from the residents of Loveland Falls.
Now for my answer to the question presented at the end of the book to the Match Breaker… Sis, you definitely need to tell your husband and his cousin about this baby. You also need to decide if your husbands issues are a deal breaker and if they are, you also need to see his cousin even sees you as more than an f buddy and wants to pursue something more with you. And you also need to determine if your husbands issues are a deal breaker and cousin wants to be more than f buddies, if you are okay with being a contributing factor in family drama. Whew, that question was messy with a capital M but I’m certain if it made the cut, the Match Breaker would have plenty to say to Mama’s baby, Daddy’s maybe.
My guy Kenver had been loving the homie from a far to the point of torment.
I loved this for her!
In the city/ town founded on love, broken 💔 hearted Taylah gave the town a dose of reality.
This was cute and quirky.
❤️ - "Orange Roses These were sent to let you know that I am: Fascinated by you inner workings Desire to be in your warmth every second of the day & I promise to love you loudly, enthusiastically, and boldly for as long as there is breath in my body. Love, Your Man"
I said what I said! As always: don't take my word for it. Read the book, form your own opinions, and support your authors!
If you’re a cynic of love this is a cute story on love that won’t make you vomit in your mouth too much lol
I enjoyed the characters a lot. I appreciated the drama and the storyline for Taylah. She was very much like many of us women. A believer in love but become so jaded and when it’s real it’s hard to tell. However when you have good friends who are there for you and supportive love ones it’s easier to be ready for love when it comes back around.
It’s a good story that can reignite that dying flame in a cynics heart. Five stars for Stupid Cupid!!! -Ms. Noir
Genesis Woods gave us a great story that was well written, flowed well and definitely kept all of my attention. I absolutely loved this friends to lovers read. Kenver and Taylah was the perfect match in Loveland Falls. They were able to communicate with each other which helped them deal with any problems that they faced. Pop Pop got on my nerves and I was glad hen he lost his majority vote. Welcome back Gen.
As soooooooonnnnnnnn as I saw that you dropped a new book I had to get it. I downloaded it about 2 hours ago and I’m already done. I couldn’t put it down and I loved every bit of this novella.
The fact that you made her loving and feisty at the same time. Lord I could read your writing everyday and never tire of it.
Thanks for this gem love. I’ll look forward to reading more.
"Stupid Cupid" was such a cute, but steamy, story! I loved it! This was a friends to lovers story that had me hooked from page one! No one should give a broken hearted woman, with superb writing skills and two bottles of wine under her belt, carte blanche to write an article to the love lorn! Especially when all she had to do to have the love of her life was turn around!
Loved the cover. Even loved the beginning. But I don't love Taylah and Kenver as a couple. They seem better as friends. I didn't like all the making out any and everywhere at anytime. Really unprofessional. And is Taylah an alcoholic? Taylah's girls all think she needs to let her man 'be the man' but it seems at the expense of her having a say. Not my favorite friends to lovers read.
This was a bookclub selection. It had some cute moments and I love the idea of a Valentine themed Black town founded by a Black couple to celebrate their love. But overall the story had some flow issues and the 3rd act breakup felt forced and out of character for the dynamic of the main’s relationship. I’m not the biggest fan of the author’s writing style but I’d still recommend it as a themed read.
Taylah and Kenver are best friends. Working at the LoveLand Gazette together editing and being besties has been somewhat easy. That is until Taylah experiences heartbreak and has to take over the towns “love” column even when she hates love.
Kenver is just trying to live up to his grandfather’s expectations since he founded Loveland. When the new column takes a swift turn, he has to quickly make a firm decision. Does love really conquer all?
I loved everything about this story. KenTay, yes, I said that right, or we could go with TaKen. They were awesome, and I knew they'd wind up together. Best friends make the best mates and lovers when the chemistry is there. Gen did her thang with this comeback storyline, and I can't wait for the other stories of Loveland to come out.
I downloaded this fun and full of feels novella to read on Valentine’s Day since I was traveling. However I didn’t get to read it. The cover kept drawing me back. The story is so damn cute and well written. I’m now a Genesis Woods fan. Give it a try. You’ll love it.
This was a cute read. I loved that Kenver and Tay were best friends that's secretly been in love with each other for the longest. I like how Kenver waited until he was sure before he took their friendship to the next level. I hope Graham finds just as much happiness as his little brother did.💌💌
This was such a cute story. I love the fact that they were best friends. Kenver really loves Taylah, and he always does whatever he can to make her happy. 😆 When she got drunk and woke up, that was too funny 😂. As always, it's an absolute pleasure reading your books. I'm glad you're back, Genesis 🥰.
This book was alright. It just wasn't what I was expecting. The main characters were cool but I wasn't interested in their budding love story. I wanted more stories from the Stupid Cupid column and maybe some interaction from the people who actually wrote the letters, perhaps walking through town, or helping with the Valentine's Day festivities, but it wasn't the main focal point of the storyline. The town of Loveland Falls itself wasn't either, and that was a little disappointing.
This is definitely one of my top 3 valentines novella. I could read this book over and over again. Genesis we need another Loveland falls book on the friend that had the tea party. Genesis i am excited to read many more books from you. Now I’m buying the physical copy to add to my book shelf.
I really loved this book. It made me feel all the emotions that both Taylah and Kenver felt for each other. The spicy scenes were just right and not overdone. This was my first read by Genesis, but I’m definitely going to read book 2 in the series and more of her catalog! Very well written!
This is my first read by this author, but it's definitely not my last. I absolutely loved this story and the writing style. I laughed out loud and cried real tears. Loved Taylah and Kenver's forever connection. Their story was sweet and spicy... I'm about to start book 2 in this series and plan to check into GW's catalog.
This had to be the cutest valentines story I’ve had the pleasure of reading. It was entertaining and engaging. I love how these two friends came together and found love 💕
