The First Beaufont #1

The Timeless Vigilante

Rate this book
It’s time for a Medieval dragonrider to fix the modern world.

Six-hundred years ago, Genevieve Beaufont stole a dragon egg and buried it. Now it’s time for that egg to finally hatch. It’s time for Gen Beaufont to be the rebel she always dreamed of.

Gen, a resident of 15th century England, finds herself stuck in modern day America—all because she was overly curious and followed strangers through a time travel gate.

Two things have always gotten Gen in her curiosity and defiance. But times have changed, quite literally. Those traits could save her life.

In modern times, crime is out of control. Only one person can fix it—someone who doesn’t play by the rules. Someone from the Medieval era.

Genevieve was one of the first Beaufonts—the most powerful magical family to ever exist. The Founders of the House of Fourteen. The ruling forces over the magical world.

Gen always knew that she’d inherit her father’s legacy, she just didn’t know it would happen quite like this.

Can Gen Beaufont take the reins on a magical world established by her family centuries before but now entrusted to this timeless vigilante? Or will the modern world break this Medieval warrior?

Amazing!!

Gen and her dragon are everything I hoped for. I knew after meeting Gen in the Rose Beaufont series that she was going to be a handful. The depth of character and the dual story line of how Gen came to be and her roll is outstanding. I didn't think anyone would become my favorite after Sophia and Lunis but Gen has her foot in the door!!!

Fantastic

This series has the makings of the best Beaufont series yet. This book was a great start, meshing our favorite
characters of the past with new riders, a badass heroine and a truly majestic dragon who isn't afraid to tease his rider. I give it 👍👍.

Okay

Interesting premise but thought Gen not knowing a cellphone by the end was ridiculous. The dragon using metal roofing as a shield against gunfire did NOT work.

Wow

Gen is waiting to meet her dragon and learn his name. Others already know things about him but are not saying anything. How will they fit in with him being the first dragon and Gen being the ancestor of the Beaufont’s.

ok

This book had a little bit of a storyline, but it was quite silly in some places. Some places in this book I felt like it wasn’t written for an adult, but for a child. It is almost like the author was trying to fill up space and put stupid things in the book that didn’t really need to be there. I did like the purple dragon emperor, but he was definitely snooty. His writer is OK. I did think it was weird that she was supposed to be in the future, even though she was born in the middle ages. I will not be reading any more books in this series.

Normally, I'll read one of Sarah Noffke, and Michael Anderle's Beaufont books, then go on to the next book on my list.

In this case, I read it through, then immediately re-read it once again, as I was desperate to catch any nuance, any fact, any point, that I might have missed, having devoured it the first time!

This book, as Sarah herself said, is her best work yet!

When you consider that every single Beaufont Series, so far, has been even better than the previous one to it - and her very first series, with Liv Beaufont introducing us to this amazing Clan, had me falling in love with the family immediately - then I hope this conveys just how good this book actually is.

Genevieve Beaufont: who prefers to be known as Gen.

The very first Warrior in the brand new House of Fourteen, and born at the turn of the Century, in the Year of our Lord, 1400.

She, and her Father, William Beaufont, started the House and, through a fluke, she follows two members of her future family, through a time Portal, and ends up stuck in our modern times.

Despite Father Time's assistance, it seems that Time, itself, decided that Gen belongs in OUR time, and so resists every attempt to send her back - this all happened in the last series, in the book: 'New Witch Order', when Rose Beaufont tries to help her go back home again.

This first book of 'The First Beaufont' series, introduces Gen into the complexities of dealing with our modern times, with all of its wonders, and places of darkness, along with the wonders of being partnered to a Dragon.

Gen may not know what a Phone is, but she's a trained observer of people - and people haven't changed THAT much, since her time!

It was wonderful following Gen, and her newly-hatched Dragon, as they get to know their new family, and learn what their new jobs will be, within the family business.

There were certainly some shocks along the way but, as I read Gen's reactions to everything around her, my overriding feeling, was of already knowing the very heart of her.

It really felt like I have always known her - which, of course, I have, in a way!

Gen Beaufont came forward in time, but her Twin Sister - who, I believe, is an identical twin - stayed behind, and took her place.

It's through HER line, that our present day Beaufont family inherited their genes, their courage, and that ineffable something, that keeps them fighting on, through thick and thin, determined to not let evil have it's way!

Of course, I've already pre-ordered book two of this new series: 'The⁰ Lost Empress', so will be anxiously awaiting its publication, on 31st May, 2024 but, until then, I've a veritable Mountain of TBR books to get on with.

I'll be going back to the Series I was reading before this book came onto my Kindle, which is 'Secret Agent Witch', and I'll be starting book six: 'Dragons Never Die'.

Once I've read this, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of Aisling's next adventures!

Napolitana lives!

That, my friends, is my homage to Sarah’s tireless and oh so abused collaborator, Mr. Michael Anderle. To understand, be sure you read all the way through the authors’ notes at the book’s end. I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably repeat myself again in the future, but sometimes the verbal sparring between Sarah and Michael in the authors’ notes is ALMOST better than the book itself…. Almost, but not quite.

As for the book at hand, well, Sarah has often stated in the lead up to this book’s release, that she felt it was some of, if not the, best work she’s done. Sadly, I am forced to agree. I say sadly, because I mean no disparagement to her previous stuff. However it’s true. This book is on par with what I still hold to be her best work ever, which also happens to be her very first book she wrote, “Awoken.” If you haven’t read it, do so. But get the version that includes the original first section that she initially cut out for purposes of word count. It helps ground the whole thing.

Back to this book. What can I say? It’s stellar! I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, which Sarah quite nicely foreshadows…. REPEATEDLY (way to build tension, Sarah… really nice! ***sarcasm intended***). When it does drop, it is so unexpected and unanticipated that I nearly spit out the soda I was sipping on as I read the words (I need to point out here that it was Pepsi, not Coke…. Sorry, Mike).

It’s rare that a plot twist catches me unaware, but Sarah pulled this one off masterfully! Moreover, she has taken the series in a direction that not only allow a glimpse into a portion of this universe we might have otherwise never understood, but allows her to right a “wrong,” so to speak, in terms of the perceptions she herself built up about certain characters.

All in all, this promises to be the most enlightening and entertaining Beaufont series since Liv, herself, started the whole thing out.

Yes, yes… you CAN read this without reading the rest, but the family history is so rich, that if you haven’t read them, you’ll be yourself a disservice if you don’t start from the very beginning. So start with “The Rebellious Sister” if you haven’t and be prepared to ENJOY!

Excellent writing, editing superb

I’m totally invested in this entire mammoth series and absolutely love the fact that the writers have bothered to edit extremely well. But omg, the self love patting of the writer’s collective egos after every single book? It’s insanely incredible how they manage to write such awesome characters, although making them appear so stupid at times And repeating the story from the last book, like readers are stupid enough to start reading halfway through a series is frustrating. I’m a speed reader, and even I will just scroll through one or two chapters to find the relevant parts for the new storyline.
Please, the author “notes” is a novella nobody wants to read. I’m just astonished that two such narcissistic I Am So Wonderful And I MUST Tell You About My Magnificence people, actually write great stories. Just let your work speak for you for pity’s sake! Please!
In saying all that, I do just skip through your rubbish to the awesomeness of the series and immerse myself into your wonderful imaginations. I’m invested and I’ll probably cry when there’s no more books to read.
P.S. This is not Sandra posting this review, it’s her sister Kerrie. I don’t want her blamed for my frank review.
I think I’ve read three Box sets and now I’m onto Gen’s series. That’s a Lot of books and just this one review.

Ok, well, despite the title of this one, this isn't the place to start if you've not read any books in thebeaufont series. In this case, she's the first, not in story order, but in birth order (apparently). It's a good story anyway, so even if you haven't read any other books, it might work for you anyhow, but if you're looking for reading order, and understanding everything that's going on, this isn't the place to start. On the other hand, if you're a regular reader to this series, then you'll likely enjoy this book, since it touches many of the other series pieces that have already been published. Plus, it's amusing and has dragons. You do know you can't go wrong with dragons right?
In any case, if you're a regular reader, and haven't read this one yet, don't hesitate anymore, grab a copy and get reading. If you haven't read any others, grab this one, and drop it into your to read pile, so you can get to it after you've read enough of the others that this one will be even more enjoyable, because you'll understand all the obscure references.

OMG this was soooooooo good! Gen is a Beaufont from the 15th century England and a founder of the house of fourteen and she is as strong and bad ass as the rest of the Beaufont ladies. Shes also a bit of a rebel and full of curiosity and at times that does get her into trouble as she takes on this unknown magical modern world. It’s an exciting read, entertaining and full of twists and turns as we say hi to old friends and get to know others better. Best of all, we meet Gen’s dragon and that is one hell of a surprise for everyone. Fantastic world building as the authors weave their magic and captivate us from start to finish and have us eager to read more of this medieval yet modern adventure.

Genevieve Beaufont accidentally time travels from the 14th century to modern day and can’t go home again. Not to worry, she was following two interesting young woman who turned out to be her family from the future!

Gen and her fierce, mighty dragon go into the family business of magic and saving the world.
They also challenge the status who, create chaos and upheaval wherever they are, upending the bad guys and teaching criminals crime don’t pay.

Wildly whimsical with old, original characters and adventurous storylines, I was enthralled and entertained and finished the book in an afternoon. My husband could hear my gales of laughter from two rooms away, he will read it tonight!

Great novel, fast paced action story and an absolutely worthwhile read

Good start

I am not sure if this is a spinoff series, but the way the book started, I feel like I came into a story already in progress. There wasn't the level of world building I'd expected, so I felt somewhat lost at first, much like the main character. I feel like the story should have started in the past, before Gen came through the portal. Instead, it started after that and mentioned it as if we should already know the backstory. If you ignore that, the story is entertaining. I may go look at other series by the author before continuing this one to see if I have begun this journey out of order.

Here be dragons!!

I enjoyed the story and really like the characters and the world, and DRAGONS!!

The relationship between Gen and Emperor is progressing wonderfully and they've become a cohesive team. I really love how Gen's family is always there to lend a helping hand if asked, but willing to stand back when she wants to learn on her own. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Amazing

So first I have to say I wasn't completely sure a time traveling character would be that easy to get into; with that said, I was totally blown away at how great these authors told this story. Just when I started leaning towards , " this could go down a path of losing me," the story went straight into a direction that I just had to see what's next. And, the details and character development is absolutely done of the best I've seen. Really an excellent job.

I am ambivalent about this one, it was good just not great.

This was my first fantasy read, I read a lot of paranormal, and it being the first in a nine book series it had a lot of world building. We get a huge cast of characters with gnomes, fairies, giants, fae, vampires, dragons, elves and a giant spider.

The repeated use of the phrase “she dragged out the word” was a little annoying then bam Sherlock Holmes is brought in as an immortal detective.

Another Beaufont....Wonderful!

An amazing opening to what looks like another fantastic adventure with the Beaufont family! Have read a few and this one certainly follows.... Gen lands in modern LA...and now must get to grips with so much, from upheaval in the city to becoming a rider..and a lot in between. It looks like the magical world is all set to meet a whole new type of Beaufont...and her dragon!! Look forward to more

New world

Gen and her dragon are from the 1400's and are now in the 21st century, and they have a lot of work ahead of them. Gen has been told that they are here to stop an evil from taking over Los Angeles, and they are going to do their best. This is a great start to the new series and I am really looking forward to seeing how it all turns out.

The Timeless Vigilante

Wow! My head is spinning with the newest Beaufont. Just like her ancestors Gen dances to the beat of her own drum. These books, all of the Beaufonts, have kept me on my toes and kept my mind active. At almost 80 years of age I still enjoy reading and I have really enjoyed these books. Thank you!

Wonderful Beaufont story

I have read every book of this fabulous saga and eagerly await more! These authors tell great tales of trials and triumphs of good over evil and have created an amazing world where magical beings coexist with the modern human population-with a few episodes of time travel. Lots of love and laughter. Highly Recommend!!

I’m in love with Gen who is placed in todays world but born in another time. Her Dragon has waited for 600 years to hatch.
How she is used to magic but don’t understand movies or electricity.

The book carefully shows how good and bad is not always black and white.. Gen grows and continues to gather both friends and enemies through the book..

Excellent

Sarah Noffke has done it again. I picked up this book and read it in one sitting and now I need a nap. The love she has for her characters is obvious with how she writes them. I can't wait to see what happens next and with the Beaufont's being involved I know it will be fantastic. Enjoy!

I Do Love the Beaufont Family

There are many books about the Beaufonts and the justice they wield. This series is, I hope, going to contain many more. Gen and Emperor make a great team. So bad guys, beware, they are coming for you.

This book is very different and I love it. The heroine has stepped through time and has a dragon who hatches, she has to navigate living in the future, dealing with future ways and in America. It is about her policing criminals rather than being angelic and it works delightfully.
