Resort pool manager Alex Irwin likes her simple life. She goes to work, then returns to her cozy home, with the occasional visit from her sister and best friend. But when she finds a mysterious body floating in the resort pool, everything changes. Especially when she realizes that body comes with blue skin and tentacles.
Who knew that krakens swam the Florida Keys?
The kraken, unable to remember even her name, must rely on Alex, a kind but prickly human, who reluctantly agrees to help her recover her memories while keeping her safe. There’s something about Alex that gives her hope and comforts her, despite her bleak circumstances. Why is she so drawn to the grumpy human?
How does Alex keep her ideal life while also maintaining a full-time job, nosey friends, and babysitting a mythical sea monster? Or worse, how does she keep the intriguing creature from spending her entire paycheck on crab legs?
While navigating their budding, messy feelings, the unlikely pair must unravel the mystery of the kraken’s memory loss and how she ended up at the resort. Will the two be able to ride the waves, or is it just a shipwreck waiting to happen?
Elaine J. Daniels writes the stories she wants to read. For as long as she can remember, she has imagined vivid characters with extraordinary lives and adventures. Her first attempt at writing a novel was a retelling of Lord of the Rings with herself as the protagonist (and Frodo’s girlfriend) when she was 11. When she’s not writing, Elaine enjoys reading romance novels, eating her wife’s cooking, trying new hobbies, and spending quality time with her friends, family, and furry babies.
Such a cute grumpy sunshine kraken romance. Maris was sweet and waaaayyyyy too self sacrificing. Alex was loving and grouchy with that ooey gooey center you hope for from a grump. Their love story was a fast burn, though the pace of the book wasn’t fast. They stumbled through the fated mates stuff and boundary setting, but figured their stuff out in the end.
Spice: 3/5
Triggers: abduction, presumed drowning of MC (but no actual drowning or risk of it), threat of being eaten, violence, drugging, mention of messy divorce of side character, blood, grief
"Alex, if you accept me as your mate, I will devote myself to you until my dying breath. With each push and pull of their waves, the tides will sing your name so that even the moon will know you. There is no devotion like a kraken to their mate."
First of all, gorgeous cover! I immediately knew I wanted to read it when I saw the cover reveal. I love how many femme monsters we keep getting lately!
It took a while for me to really get into the book though. Felt like nothing happened for the first maybe 70% and then suddenly everything happened. But the moment Ariel defended Alex and we had the "You tried to hurt my mate" moment...I was hooked!
The spice was good (hello tentacles!) but the flip flopping Alex did with her choice to have a relationship with Ariel or not was almost to the point that it got annoying. I was expecting more of a slow burn and not so much whiplash with the emotions in a book of this length but it was ok. The communication between the MCs was refreshing to see. There were a few moments of misunderstandings or them not saying how they really feel but for the most part they talked it out and I love seeing that in my romance! Overall good read and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future!
Did we all really read the same book because WTAF? I got this ebook for free through a Stuff Your Kindle event and I still feel like I’ve been robbed. Of my time, my energy, and a few brain cells along the way.
The reviews are lying to you. If you don’t care about actual quality of writing and enjoy 30+y/o grown characters sounding like Wattpad fanfic middle-schoolers and/or are only in it for the tentacle smut vibes, then you’re fine, go ahead.
The constant inconsistencies, the convenience of too many scenes to count, the whiplash of the monster in this romance being completely new to everything but simultaneously knowing everything about the human world, the ridiculous insta-love… GAH!!!
I’ve got beef with a lot of the aspects of this book but the insta love in particular, are you for real? You can’t just stick a “fated mates” banner on every other book and have it justify falling insanely in love and mentally & verbally performing love declarations in less than 24 hours. Both of the main characters read so shallow and childish that I couldn’t believe this is an actual, real book.
I can’t even credit the alleged cuteness of their romance because all I could focus on was the mind-numbingly ridiculous, caricature-like dialogue between EVERYBODY. MY EYES, MY FUCKING EYES!!!
Only positive is that it didn’t contain as many grammar errors or missing words as some other self-pub books I’ve read, so here’s a one star (also because I can’t go any lower on Goodreads).
Please, PLEASE don’t be swayed by the strangely positive reviews, this was a hot mess and I’m so glad that it’s over.
This one had potential but unfortunately, it never really found its footing. The pacing was painfully slow as the reader is spoon-fed the minutiae of a single day for the first 40% of the book, but at the same time, key moments were rushed while unnecessary filler weighed down the story. Something of a crime in a book of only 200 pages. The story suffered further with dialogue that felt very juvenile, the characters speaking more like they were in middle school than actual adults.
The “fish out of water” theme also missed the mark. The kraken’s struggle with her new environment felt inconsistent, as sometimes she reacted as if she’d never seen the world before, and other times, even her internal monologue was using language she (presumably) wouldn’t know. This lack of consistency made it hard to connect with her experience and diminished the impact of the theme to the point where she felt more like a human who could shape-shift and was a bit ditzy.
To make matters worse, the book crams in an overabundance of familiar tropes for such a short read. Instead of feeling like unique story elements, they feel like checklist items, ticking boxes of things we've seen a hundred times before but without any satisfying execution. It left little room for the characters or plot to breathe, making the whole experience feel crowded and cliché.
While the premise had promise, the execution left me wishing for a rewrite or two. DNF
Sapphic kraken love story!! I'm such a *sucker* for sapphic romances, but especially sapphic creature romances. It's mostly well-paced and slow burn with a couple very lovely spicy scenes that are so fun to read. Alex and Maris make such a cute pair as their relationship develops (and what an adorable epilogue!).
Comes with a healthy dose of beloved tropes (Amnesia, fated mates, grumpy x sunshine, one bed, fake dating-ish...) and a cast of adorable characters! Along with our main ladies, I also really enjoy the characters of Avery and Caspian.
Received this as an eARC in exchange for a voluntary review! <3 Thank you! You're my first!
P.S. If you'd like some visual material to go with the story, go have a look at the author's Insta- they've commissioned such adorable art that I can't stop looking at them. :')
First and foremost - I am very much a vibe rating girlie and this one - gah it just made my heart happy. This is such a fun and quirky book. I had an absolute blast reading this. In addition to that, it is set in my hometown of the Florida Keys, so it holds an extra special place in my heart !
This story follows a lifeguard named Alex who rescues a (unknown to her at the time) kraken from “drowning” in her work pool. Enter Maris - a gorgeous kraken suffering from amnesia. But why is Maris here? What happened? Together they must work to find who Maris is and what happened to her. Along the way they are unable to deny or resist the strong pull they feel towards each other. Can a human and a kraken have a happily ever after? On the surface this looks like your average fluffy monster romance, but the back story and lore that is presented added a whole nother layer to the story. It exceeded my expectations and I really loved it.
I have to say, although I relate a lot to Alex, I LOVED Maris. She is absolutely hilarious and the definition of a sunshine girlie ☀️ I’m truly obsessed with her and wish I could actually stumble upon her at the beach down here.
Grumpy / Sunshine where the MONSTER is the sunshine?? Sign me the f*ck up! ♥️
Did not finish book. Stopped at 33%. The characters feel surface deep and the kraken character feels way too normal, not alien at all. It’s just not doing it for me.
Super enjoyable slow-burn read with just enough angst and peril to give the plot some weight/stakes without being stressful. I love a good grumpy/sunshine pairing, and it's even more fun when the sunshine is the monster. I enjoyed how Alex and Maris' relationship grew, deepened, and evolved over the course of the book, and how they both stayed true to themselves and their values even while making space for a partner in their lives. Just a really fun read!
It’s been a little bit since I started & finished a book in the same day! What can I say? I just couldn’t put this book down! I’m such a big fun of the sunshine x grumpy trope, so I loved Alex and Maris so much! If you’re looking for a sapphic monster romance, you have to check this book out! It was so good!
‘Sink Into Her’ was just so SWEET! And such a cute read to curl up and enjoy! It’s Elaine J. Daniel’s debut novel and it’s a fantastic first step into the world of monster romance and I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future —AND it’s sapphic! So that was a big bonus for me!
But it isn’t JUST because it was sapphic that I loved it, I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and world that Daniel’s has brought to life. I loved both Alex & Maris (they are so adorable both together and as individual characters) as well as the relationships between Alex and her sister and best friend! I adore reading good female friendships and these were lovely! Also, the banter between Alex and her sister was hilariously accurate that I giggled quite a bit.
Along with the characters, I appreciated the love the author has also put into the world around them. The lore was interesting and I hope there are more books in the future in this series to learn more! (Oh, and the take on mermaids was terrifying! And I loved it!)
The romance was a big part of the story and it was so sweet that it made my heart full and fuzzy. There are tints of angst and pining, but just enough to make the slow burn all worth it in the end. And when the slow burn DOES happen, the spice is delicate but steamy and just PERFECTLY balanced with the rest of the story. (Also a side note: Maris uses her tentacles as pseudo-peens but without the actual peen part—but she experiences pleasure through stimulation of them so uses them appropriately which I really enjoyed!). I also don’t want to spoil anything, but the way the author also wrote the mating bond was beautiful! I could feel the love between them and it was perfect.
This book is fairly light on triggers, as it’s more of a cute & steamy read, but there are a few that I will mention below. Besides the spicy scenes which are fairly explicit, most of these aren’t particularly focused heavily on, but I will mention them just in case.
━━ † ━━
⚔️TRIGGER LIST⚔️
— Explicit sex scenes — Kidnapping (both past memory & current) — Mild violence — Threatened gun violence — Amnesia/memory loss — Sex involving tentacles — Triple penetration with tentacles — Anal
━━ † ━━
‘Sink Into Her’ was a wonderfully sweet, steamy and cozy sapphic monster romance that’s got a bit of everything: from cuteness, to a little bit of pining & angst, mythical creatures, some thrilling adventure and, above all, finding love and happiness in places you might not otherwise have imagined. If you enjoy tentacles, fated mates, banter, slow burn, sexual tension and slippery (pun intended, you know, because of the tentacles) spice—then I would highly recommend this book. 5/5 stars!

okay so i should add an actual review i’m just not good at them. MONSTER SAPPHIC LOVERS RISE !!! this was such a cute read with just the right amount of spice too. i love how cozy it feels and ofc sapphic makes it superior. 💕
In this delightful tale, we are introduced to Alex and Maris. Maris is a Kraken who has lost all her memories, when Alex saves her and agrees to help her recover what she’s lost. Their blossoming slow burn romance unfolds with a perfect blend of sweetness and spice, capturing the essence of fated mates with incredible emotional depth. The author masterfully weaves a tapestry of enchantment with the exploration of captivating lore and mythology, inviting readers to dive into a world brimming with adventure and intrigue.
‘Sink into Her’ offers a cosy and enchanting reading experience, blending cuteness, adventure, angst and a heartfelt romance that has tantalising spice. From tropes of fated mates to the allure of mystical creatures, this novel promises a world where love, friendship, and acceptance reign supreme. So, if you’re seeking a sapphic romance filled with passion, tentacles and a sprinkle of magic, this is a must-read.
I enjoyed the story line and the monster smut was in point. But I did get very frustrated with the main character and that caused me to lose some of the appeal. Other than that for a LGBTQ monster smut I give it a chef kiss but that smut was perfection!
✨✨Sink into Her✨✨ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Spice in chps: 10,13&22 ‼️‼️Tw/cw‼️‼️ - Kidnapping - Mild Violence - Threats of violence by a FMC - Threatened gun violence to FMC 💕💕Tropes💕💕 - Amnesia - Fated mates - One bed - Touch her and 💀 ❤️❤️Quotes I loved❤️❤️ - I’m weightless and she’s my anchor - There is no devotion like a kraken to their mate ✨✨Onto the Review✨✨ Let me start this off by saying I flipping love Elaine’s writing, this is the second book I’ve read by her and I am just blown away each time I read one of her books! The plot in this book was immaculate, the descriptions of the settings were great, this book is based in the Florida keys and it was pretty spot on and that’s coming from a Florida resident. I also loved the Disney references in this book! There also were some moments between the characters that had me laughing out loud, like Maris ( the kraken FMC) and her aversion to bananas and how Alex (human FMC) eats them sometimes just to annoy her. This was my first kraken romance and now I think I need more because Tentacles and I’ll leave it at that. If you want to read a beautiful sapphic romance about a kraken finding their one true mate you definitely need to go pick up this book! I know “Sink into Her” was recently for free during a stuff your kindle event but it is also available for purchase on Amazon or through the authors direct website, and it’s also available on Kindle Unlimited!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it was very cute. I liked both of the characters as well as their boundaries. They seemed very realistic, especially when compared to "insta love" romance novels.
I am always excited to read a tentacle romance ♥ This was a super cute book! I really loved Maris. She is a ray of sunshine even though she was lost and had no memory, she was so positive and happy! It really was the perfect pairing for Alex who was 100% a grumpy girl. I thought sometimes she was too grumpy and it came across as rude, but I also can understand my girl was going through a lot. Meeting a Kraken, finding out she has no memory, being sexually attracted to the Kraken, finding out the Kraken is your fated mate...I'll give her a break.
The story itself was super cozy and fun to me, pretty low stakes with very little violence. It was a perfect read for a cozy night at home. It had laughs and sweet moments, and a few spicy ones as well!
I will forever call my cats little baby men because they are little baby men.♥
This book was an absolute delight, and a perfect read for me right now. I have been fighting a reading slump for the last month, and this book was perfect. It had the right balance of making me feel things but also forget my world for a little bit.
I love the relationship between Maris and Alex. Everything happened very quickly, and I loved every second of it. I went in forgetting there was the fated mates trope, and was pleasantly surprised. It is one of my favourites. I love how when it was brought up, the discussion of consent and the importance of choosing who you're with occured. Autonomy is important and sometimes forgotten. I also adored the focus on both Maris and Alex having/making other friends.
ALSO!!!! OH GOSH OH BOY. When the spice hits, it *hits*.
Also also love me a fem kraken. Please everyone write more, thank you!
I had really high hopes for this book (I mean, Sapphic monster romance!? Sign me up), which is maybe why I couldn't get through it when it just wasn't my vibe. I think this book would be amazing for some, I'm just not the right audience.
The book reads as a contemporary romance with the stakes being mostly emotional rather than external, which isn't my preference. I like my monster romance with more of a fantasy/supernatural vibe and external stakes. I also didn't really like the human FMC, Alex, which made it hard to connect to her point of view personally.
If my complaints don't resonate with you, I would say give this book a try! I love that we are finally getting more Sapphic stories in this space. It is a cute book, as many others have said 😊
ARC Review! Talking about what Sink Into Her is, is simple. Let's do it via a small list.
- An adorable Monster romance with a HEA and likeable Protagonists - A feel good ending that helped me to look fondly unto the whole experience and pushed the rating from 3 stars to 4. - An easy read with a great flow. - An author's quest to disparage bananas (not sure about that one, though) - An Monster-Smut Novel with some remarkable and really hot smut scenes.
Everything here is done competently and you get exactly what you are looking for.
I was missing a few things, though. Or rather, there was potential that I saw which wasn't fully explored in the book. One example for this would be:
The Kraken is, as we learn at some point, a virgin who has never kissed anyone. And, honestly, a century old undying being with tremendous magical powers falling in love with a grumpy human who had at least some experience: That got potential! When I learned that, I hoped for some experimental love scenes where they both could share their passion, the kraken can learn about her own wants and can develop some sort of sexual preference. What we got is an instant DOM-mommy who knows perfectly how to pleasure their partner. And, I mean, that is nice, and hot. But I would've loved to see more character depth here. I don't know if 'triple-penetration' screams 'has sex for the second time in her life' to me. More build up, more slow burn would've helped 'Sink Into Her' flesh out its characters and story.
For that reason, in my mind, it had a 3-Star rating for most of my read. But when I finished, I realized that I had grown quite fond of Alex and the Kraken, and even some of the side characters (looking at you Avery) found a place in my heart.
I'd recommend reading 'Sink Into Her' for a feel-good story with low stakes, that stay low, even if they don't. You'll see what I mean.
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 (rounded up for rating) Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Sink Into Her was my first novel by Elaine J. Daniels, and this was a fun, quirky, and mostly lighthearted (to me) monster romance read that I read in one day.
🐙Sapphic Monster Romance 💙Grumpy x Sunshine 🐙Fated Mates 💚Slow Burn 🐙Tentacles 💜One Bed 🐙Amnesia
This story follows a resort pool manager, Alex Irwin, who enjoys the predictability of her life. Alex goes to work, hits the gym, then goes home, with the occasional visit from her sister or best friend. But, things take a turn when Alex turns up early for work and she has to save someone who is unconscious at the bottom of her pool. When Alex dives in the pool on instinct, she finds she is greeted by blue skin and a host of tentacles. Who knew krakens were real and swam in the Florida Keys?
When the mysterious kraken regains consciousness, she is unable to remember anything, and must rely on Alex, her grumpy human companion to help her regain her memories. There’s something about Alex that brings comfort to the kraken despite the unfortunate situation she has found herself in…why is she so drawn to grumpy human?
Alex and the kraken, who remembers that her name is Maris, must navigate the tumultuous waters of unraveling the mystery around why Maris lost her memories and budding feelings amidst insecurities. Along the way, these two struggle to deny and resist the pull they feel towards each other, and Alex struggles to get out of her own head; it seems impossible for a human and a kraken to have a happily ever after, after all.
I loved the grumpy x sunshine dynamic between Alex and Maris, and Maris is the true definition of a ray of sunshine ☀️ I would love to stumble upon Maris out in the ocean!
When Alex pulled an unresponsive kraken out of the swimming pool at her job, she knew she had to hide her. After all, krakens didn't exist, or so she'd thought, and if anyone else stumbled upon this marvelous creature, it would be disastrous. Maeve wakes with no memories of her life, or even her name. She's unsure how she got to this office, but she feels a pull to the beautiful, grumpy human that rescued her. This book is so incredibly sweet! Maeve is so gentle with Alex, and she'll do anything to protect her, no matter the cost. Alex is commitment phobic and is hesitant to let herself fall for Maeve, but she can't help it. Alex's battle with her feelings hurts Maeve, but she knows that Alex has to make her own choice. While they try to recover Maeve's missing memories, their feelings grow, and they soon realize they can't let each other go. Alex tries to wrap her head around how sex with a kraken would work, but Maeve is all too happy to show her. Tentacles are marvelous; with so much freedom of movement, and that glorious suction, Maeve easily blows Alex's mind. I very badly need more sapphic tentacle monster romance, ASAP. They're so sweet together, there's a little bit of "will they, won't they" angst, fantastic tentacle play, and a mystery to solve. I was left wanting more, and that's not a bad problem to have.
*I was given an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
Cute story with sweet characters, and an easy-going storyline to follow. When I started reading it gives me vibes from the movie Aquamarine, from the pool rescue to Maris's enthusiasm to learn more about the human world, always happy with a smile, in complete contrast to our other protagonist Alex. The only thing I would have preferred is for the storyline to be a bit faster because nothing happens until almost 70% of the book. The romance between the two of them is super cute, which I loved; their energy was perfect for each other. It made my heart fill with happiness for them.
The communication between both protagonists is excellent; there are clear understandings in the story between them. Alex is somewhat intense initially, but I really liked her development; she opened up to her other half at the right time. The spice, although little, is intense, especially the romance wrapped in the spice. Each character has a beautiful relationship; they are sweet and understanding, especially the relationship between the two sisters. In the story, you find a little bit of everything: mythical creatures, banter, tentacles, fated mates, a lot of cute moments, and romance. Above all, the small town that the author created is super cute and cozy; I hope I can read even more from this Sunshine Key world.
Resort pool manager Alex likes her simple life. But everything's about to change when she finds a mysterious body floating in her pool. It takes all of her strength to rescue the creature that comes with blue skin and tentacles!
Maris doesn't remember anything. Not her own name and not how she ended up in Alex's pool. But she knows that she's drawn to the beautiful pool manager, who agreed to help her get her memories back.
Discovering that the gorgeous woman is her fated mate should be wonderful, but Alex has commitment issues and Maris doesn't have much time left convincing her to accept the mate bond. All while trying to regain her memory.
Holy father of a kraken, these two are the most adorable human/kraken beings!! Both are so drawn to one another but Alex needs space and Maris is trying to give her just that, even if it's hard for her. Alex's sister and her best friend are adorably accepting side characters, only freaking out for a moment over the fact that Maris is an ancient kraken. There's a fair bit of action towards the end of the book which I really loved and the 🌶️ is really freaking 🔥🔥.
If you like Monster romance, don't miss out on "Sink into Her", because these two charming ladies deserve all the love 💕!!
it was okay. nothing stellar to write home about. the pacing is *very* fast, and yet weirdly slow? nothing happens, but it happens quickly. the thing with the . there was also hardly any tension. like the relationship didn't feel challenged or in peril at any given moment. it was all too sweet and a little too easy. i almost want to say it would have been more interesting if the human was the sunshine one and the kraken was the grumpy one, but it's whatever. the spice is alright, but those new to tentacle porn may be turned off, so be warned if you didn't already know: there's tentacle sex. other than that? nothing really exciting or genre-bending. it functions, and someone out there will be blown away by it. just not me.
Where do I even begin? Alex is the grump tomboy who is gentle to those she knows and loves. Maris is the sunshiney kraken who is absolutely brutal when needed. Together, these two make the perfect pairing. Will Alex accept the mating bond? Or will Maris be doomed to suffer a gruesome fate.
"I had a taste, and now I dont know if I will ever be satisfied. "
Avery and Ella were the perfect additions to the character lists. Avery is hilarious and puts Alex in her place while Ella is the quiet supporter.
I haven't read a lot of queer books, but I devoured this 🥹 I am a fan for life now!
Such a precious story, from beginning to end. In the best of ways, I got Ghibli vibes multiple times. Maris’s sweet bubbly fish out of water personality reminded me of an adult Ponyo. She’s just such a charming protagonist throughout, with no memories but still a cheery happy outlook.
Alex, the human that finds her Kraken during an early morning shift, visibly thaws out over the story as she falls for Maris.
The ending’s heart scene had Howl’s Moving Castle vibes that were perfect for this sweet romance.
My only suggestion for future stories is we get a Caspian romance 😉 I adored this character the bit he was in it!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The cover of this book is so cute and so was the story! This was definitely a quick read and a palate cleanser because it was such a cute story with a bit of danger sprinkled in. I loved Alex and Maris's relationship and how it blossomed throughout the book. All the relationships with the side characters were also well developed. I loved Avery and Alex's sibling relationship and how they had each other's back. I really enjoyed the plot and the adventure to gain Maris' memories back as she got closer with Alex. Also, the spice was the perfect amount! This book is great for dipping your feet in monster romances.
You can fit so many tropes in this baby. *slaps cover* From selective amnesia to fated mates, only one bed, touch her and 💀, and probably some others I’m missing, tropes abounded. Unfortunately, a lot of these elements felt disconnected to me. For example, 80% of the way through the book, we’re suddenly in a gritty thriller for two chapters? Personally, I wish we’d spent more time with the characters and establishing the romance between them rather than having so many plot devices in play. I often have this problem with fated mates stories, though. At least this one had a cute kraken girl going for it. 🐙
