Big Boys Need Love Too

Rate this book
Holding the title of commissioner for the Women’s National Volleyball Association, Royal Blue is known as a man of distinction. He has more money than he can spend in a lifetime, but on the day meant to represent lovers, Royal Blue comes home to betrayal at the hands of those close to him. Loneliness begins to greet him more than usual, turning him to his primary source of comfort... food. Royal is grumpier and more miserable than ever, until Jewry St. Goodes walks in.
Jewry is a small business owner who creates baked goods with a passion like no other. Her shop, full of a variety of sweet treats, brings comfort to most, and Royal Blue is no exception. Jewry jumps at an opportunity to cater an event at the sports arena. This leads her right into the path of the grumpy commissioner.
His disposition is callous enough to run any sane person away, but he doesn't get the same response from Jewry. Could Jewry be the ray of sunshine to mellow out Royal Blue before the next Valentine's Day?

Royal and Jewry both experienced heart break in very different yet very low down scandalous forms Valentine’s Day 2022. The difference is, while Jewry remained a kind hearted pure soul, Royal turned in to a cantankerous meany.

Crossing paths after Jewry’s bakery catered an event for Royal’s company, the chemistry could not be denied and led to them both giving love another try.

This was a really cute story and I loved both characters. Where I think the author fell short was with character development. Usually we don’t get enough but in this book we got too much. So much time was spent on the characters and their back stories that when they finally got together the book was over. This story would have been better served as a full length novel because I wanted a more in depth reason about why Gerald and Bailey were still reaching out two years later.

There was tons of potential and some high notes but did not quite deliver on the Valentine’s Day portion. If I’m reading a vday story I want endless roses, candles, romantic dinners, a trip oversees, and lots and lots of fkn! I did enjoy the vibe of the book but yeah, it needed tweaking. 3.5 ✨

New beginnings

Both Royal and Jewry had some bad memories on Valentine's Day. However, they were handling them differently. Jewry was moving on positively while Royal became disgruntled and found comfort in food. He had gained a lot of weight since that time in his life and was low-key embarrassed. It was nice that Jewry seen beyond of all of that and helped him improve his outlook about himself. I liked that he had swag and kept himself up.

Overall the story wasn't bad. I would have loved if he was more confident though. It would have made him even more sexy. I also would have appreciated a little more time with them together as a couple.

not what I was expecting

2.5 I feel like the author wasted 20 pages on backstory. I appreciate the idea and the effort but I didn’t love the execution.

Okayyyy. Big dudes come through!

This was too cute. I loved how they came to be a couple. She helped him for real and I loved that for him. Even though they both had Been hurt, they both were able to see if there was something between him. I love how he admitted and took accountability for a lot of his actions. He grew through this book and I loved this for them as a whole.

Wynta Tyme's Big Boys Need Love Too is a short, tense but romantic story. The main characters Royal and Jewry have both discovered their valentines weren't truly theirs. Two years later, they are still feeling the effects of the betrayal, especially Royal.

So, I thought this story was beautifully written. I enjoyed the characters and watching the growth in Royal because he was grumpy and developed a bad eating habit after his divorce. Jewry is sweet just like her pastries but she was not about to deal with a man with a temper and she let that be known to Royal. I loved how she was there for Royal, helping him find ways to cope with his stress more healthily.

Even though this is a Valentine's Day short, I hope to see more of Royal and Jewry in the future because their story was just beginning.

3.5/5 - Overall i liked both characters and enjoyed the story. There was a lot of backstory and character building especially with Royal. With that being said the book is definitely more contemporary with a dash or so of romance.

Both characters going through heart break and the author showing how different they came out of those situations was a nice touch. If we’re being honest some people don’t bounce right back and hurt so much they really end up hurting themselves. On the other hand Jewry was able to maintain her beautiful spirit. So i can appreciate the author showing that.

At that point, like half way through, i felt the book should have been a longer story. At least 150-200 pages. I wanted more of their story together and to see how the author would build it. I really forgot it was a Valentine’s Day story. Outside of that Jewry was doing a good job at helping Royal overcome his ways of being so emotionally scarred. Sometimes it really takes that one person to make a difference in your life.

Lastly, with the ex’s still reaching out for the past two years and then BOOM they show up in person is crazy. We should have gotten a glimpse of what has been going on in their lives for them to still want to reach out and bother Royal and Jewry. In all honesty they didn’t need to be mentioned again after the breakups if we weren't going to get more of their stories. Those pages could have been spent on building Royal and Jewry’s relationship more.

P. S. When Royal kicked them out that thang had me rolling. Lmao.

A New Taste

A quick Valentine's short that made you fall in love with the couple. Royal and Jewry found each other at the right moment in each other lives. Both having suffered broken hearts due to their exes they needed a new taste in the love department. Jewry was the motivation Royal needed to overcome his overeating habits. She also lifted his spirits so he wasn't so grumpy and miserable anymore. Royal smothered Jewry with all of the love she deserved. The only other milestone that would have been magnificent for this couple would have been an engagement, marriage, or baby.

Big boys need love

This was a cute novella. I liked Jewry and Royal together and I loved that she showed him ways help with his anger and desire to eat when upset. Royal was sweet once he was able to get passed his anger. I chuckled in the beginning with how he handle his wife and so called best friend, but I felt bad for him having to go through that betrayal. 3.5/5 stars

I picked up this book in search of a plus-size MMC romance. However, as it turned out to be a short story, the pacing felt off for me. Events unfolded rather quickly, which was a bit overwhelming. Also, I found the writing style not to my taste; it felt overly modern, especially with some of the terms and phrases employed.

DNF halfway through. I didn’t love the automatic “he’s fat because his comfort is food” or some of their interactions. First time we’re out in public I don’t want a man loudly burping and having me clean his beard while also having me be the one to get his food.

I liked the concept more than its execution. Me thinks it should have been longer so the author would have had room to flesh out Royal & Jewry. Cause even from the character‘s backgrounds you could tell that they’d be interesting

I would have liked to see the author explore Royal’s eating challenges, do something about the piano thing, see him more in his element as the commissioner of the volley ball league. See him deal w the emotions from his divorce and whatnot. So many layers could be explored

Same for Jew too, she was successful in her own right, I wanted to hear more about her dip in corporate America. Her exploring her attraction to Royal. She didn’t have as many layers but she was still interesting to read about

Then there’s the writing. I liked it but the dialogue between the characters was tooo on the nose. I felt like their interactions were not authentic. & while i appreciated the communication (cause i love that shit) it wasn’t natural. Like when Royal & Jew are talking about his emotional eating, Jew is saying all the right things it just reads very robotic.

Anyway a lot of potential

Okay

This was okay. It was super short. I wish it was longer. There is a great foundation for a lengthy story. One of the things I took issue with was how Royal was portrayed as an emotional and stress eater. As someone who is both I don’t shove food down my throat. Do I overeat yep! But I don’t pile to plates of food. I just go back for seconds or make one big plate. I have never wanted to eat until I passed out. I mean maybe that is who men act as emotional and stress eater. By the way reading books doesn’t fix anything. Going to therapy to get to the hurt of the eating is the key so you don’t keep doing it. I hope this is turned into a full length book. But with some changes. I mean Gerald and Bailey that is enough to add to the story. Look all that time had passed and they still was trying.

Cute short story.

This cute short story was quite interesting. Royal and Jewry, both had breakups on Valentine’s Day two years prior and they handled it quite differently. The story touched on a few issues: breakups, emotional wellbeing, stalking and letting go. Jewry was able to continue to function, whereas Royal became mean and emotional eater. I loved the way that Jewry looked beyond Royal’s weight and attitude and was able to get him on a path of healing.

It's short but it's sweet 💕

The power of compassion and understanding. Jewry did not tolerate the disrespect, but she empathized with and realized the humanity in a hurt and broken man, allowing him to grow and embrace the healing journey and challenging him to find healthier ways to deal with trauma. Sidenote: I loved Jewry’s Valentine’s Day flashback in the flower shop. She bossed up and gave that girl a job! I loved it!

Short and Freaky

It started off with a blast of 2 betrayals. The funny part is he made them jump put of a window. I would have loved to see that!!

How can you set up a life with 2 women and non the wiser. Then came the big guy and all was exposed.

I loved that Jewry didn't let her past stop her from trying love again and went a step further in helping Mr. Angry with his healing.

such a sweet book

This book made me love my teddy bear men even more . Royal is so sweet and loving but he gets hurt by finding his wife sleeping with his best friend, ultimately turning him into an angry beast. Jewry is a kind soul who is dealt a horrible hand finding out that the man she loves is actually married. Over time the two meet and eventually get together, ending with a HEA.

🔥🔥🔥

Wynta you have gained a new follower. The way you took us through Royal and Jewels trauma to the way she was able to penetrate and pull back those layers of pain and hurt all while dealing with her own was a testiment to say that there are still good hearted individuals, and big boys do indeed need love. I hate when people judge by the outside instead of getting to know the inside you never know what you could be missing. A great Valentine's read

Big Boys Need Love Too

So the mean grinch (Royal) meets the beauty (Jewry) lol nah but the kindness that she gives starts to open him up tremendously & instantly! To go through the same event to some extent in the same day (EXACT DATE) is beyond me! They were meant to end so they can have a beginning together. I’m glad he finally opened up & she was able to help him fight a battle he wasn’t strong enough to tackle on his own! This was a great short read!

Come through big man

Royal was devastated by after catching his wife with his best friend. He used food to calm his stress and he’s become angry and grumpy. He meets Jewry and steps to her incorrectly. She checks him classily and that intrigues him. He apologizes and convinces her to take a chance on him. This was a good book and I really enjoyed it.

Loved it!!!

I absolutely loved this Valentine’s novella, I’m so happy that Jew and Royal found each other. I really liked the grumpy sunshine aspect of Royal and the way that Jew was able to help him find his peace. Overall, this was a beautiful story with a happy ending. Hope we get to see more of Royal and Jew in the future.

A cute Novella

This was a cute and quick read. I liked how Jewry was willing to be a help to Royal when he was vulnerable and opened himself up to her. Also liked how Royal was willing to see his behaviour wasn’t the best and he needed to work on that! All in all it was a cute and well written for the shortness of it.

Royal and Jewry both experience heartache on the holiday that is meant for celebrating love. Jewry kept it moving in a positive way. On the other hand Royal kept it moving in a negative way. He became angry and mean to everyone around him and gained 70 lbs from all of the emotional eating that he had been doing. I respected that Jewry was aware that Royal was hurt and needed a little more love after carrying the pain and hurt for so long. The book was good I just wish there was a couple more chapters to help explain what Valentine's Day was like for them their 1st year together and also to give a bit more spice. Because we all know the chemistry was on fire between the two.

A grumpy and sunshine Valentines Day Short

⭐️⭐️⭐️.75|🌶️🌶️
This was a good Valentine’s Day short. The MMC was giving who hurt you but we knew that from the beginning. The FMC was really sweet and wanted to help the MMC with his comfort eating habits. 💖

The story did have some grammatical errors.
