Second Latin: Preparation for the Reading of Philosophy, Theology, and Canon Law
Latin Grammar and its companion Second Latin are designed to teach a person who to read Catholic Ecclesiastical Latin. Latin Grammar prepares a person to read both the Missale Romanum and the Breviarium Romanum with exercises from both. Second Latin continues the course into deeper theology and philosophy vocabular and exercises. At the end of both books a person ought to be able to read everything from the Summa of Saint Thomas Aquinas to the Codex Juris Canonici.

August 3, 2011A very useful book this is for immersion into the Latin language especially with regard to theology and canon law. Small grammatical reminders there are in each lesson and a decent vocabulary also, but the value of this book is in the wading through the short assigned texts of the forty chapters.
The grammatical sections in each chapter are short and to the point. The word studies are also very useful, as are the idiomatic constructions introduced in the second part of the book. My next latin reader should be classical and with an element of fable and mythology. Ovid, maybe.
