The Forgotten Wife is an interesting narrative told from the perspective of Hidimbi, the first wife of Bheem from the Mahabharata. I didn’t know much about Hidimbi, and that curiosity drew me to this book. She is portrayed as a selfless rakshasi who sacrifices both her love and her son for a greater purpose. The portrayal of Kunti and Bheem felt somewhat negative to me; however, the ending was hopeful, which was the best part of the book for me.
This is a light and accessible read for lovers of mythological fiction.
