Dr. Osamu Tezuka (手塚治虫) was a Japanese manga artist, animator, producer and medical doctor, although he never practiced medicine. He is often credited as the "Father of Anime", and is often considered the Japanese equivalent to Walt Disney, who served as a major inspiration during his formative years. His prolific output, pioneering techniques, and innovative redefinitions of genres earned him such titles as "the father of manga" and "the God of Manga."

It's a shame John Byrne never revisited these characters to finish their story. It's an obvious Fantastic Four homage but I like the two parallel stories in the past and 75 years in the future after the earth has been taken over by aliens, with both stories giving us tales of the original and future Danger Unlimited teams.

Yes, it's an obvious take/homage/rip off etc of the Fantastic Four, but it's a good take etc. and at the time it came out the actual FF comic was pretty unreadable.

Byrne tells two stories, the origin of the original Danger Unlimited and the creation of a new version in the future. Both stories are linked and fit together to give you an over view of the group's history.

The jumping back and forth got a bit out of control and annoying, but the stuff set in the past has a great old school vibe to it and the future team had great Byrne drawn sci-fi visuals.

Plus all the characters are cool looking and have some clever twists on classic super powers.

Not to mention they fight an evil nazi super villain that is a head in a jar!

A good read that doesn't want to reinvent the wheel, just remind you that comics can still be fun.

When John Byrne is on top form, there's very few who can make a better comic book, and he's very much in top form here. The art is beautiful, and the story, which borrows some ideas from the Fantastic Four, is undeniably unique and interesting. The only problem is that this concept never got the chance to be explored and expanded; I would have loved to have seen more of this.
