ঢাকা শহর যেন যুদ্ধের দ্বারপ্রান্তে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে, বিশেষ আইনকে কেন্দ্র করে ফুঁসে উঠেছে পুরো দেশ, জ্বলছে পথ ঘাট। গণভবনের কেন্দ্রে বসে কী কলকাঠি নাড়ছে আসগর মাহতাব?

একের পর এক কিশোরী নিখোঁজ হচ্ছে উত্তাল রাজনীতির মধ্যেই। কেন করা হচ্ছে অপহরণ, কেউ জানে না। তবু হাল ছাড়ে না সোহেল আরমান।

অনেকদিন পর দেশের মাটিতে ফিরে কাকে খুঁজছে আইরিন? প্রতিশোধের আগুন কি নিভাতে পেরেছে সে?

সেই সুদূর ইয়েমেন থেকে আসা ইফ্রিতদের অবস্থাই বা কী? শান্তি কি পেয়েছে তারা? নাকি যুদ্ধের ডামাডোল আবার বেজে উঠেছে তাদের মধ্যে?

কুমিল্লার সেই হাবিব, কী করছে সে ইদানীং? কিংবা সেই কুইলি? আর বিশেষ ক্ষমতার সেই হাবিবা? এই টালমাটাল দেশের পরিস্থিতিতে তাদের অবস্থাই বা কী? হাবিবার পেছনে কেন লেগেছে একদল ভাড়াটে সন্ত্রাসী?

গণভবনে প্রবেশ করতে না পারা মৃত্যুঞ্জয় সমাদ্দার এখন কী করবে? তার সামনে কি কোন উপায় খোলা আছে?

কবিরাজ আর জাদুকরদের পোস্টারে ছেয়ে গেছে ঢাকার প্রতিটি দেয়াল। এর মাঝেই উত্তাল পরিস্থিতি, দেশের সামাজিক অবস্থাও ভঙ্গুর। এমন সময় কী করতে পারে ইরফান? কে আছে এসবের পেছনে? খুঁজতে খুঁজতে সে হাজির হল সেই শুভপুরে। যেখান থেকে শুরু হয়েছিল সবকিছু।

এরপর? সব কি শেষ হয়েছিল? নাকি শেষের শুরু? বিষণ্ণ প্রহরেই খুঁজতে হবে এর উত্তর।

About the author

Javed Rasin (Bengali: জাবেদ রাসিন) is a Bangladeshi poet & fiction writer. He was born in Mymensingh but has raised in Dhaka from childhood. Javed completed his graduation & post-graduation in law from the University of Dhaka. He likes the charm of prosody and playing with words which fits into poetry. Shunno Pother Opekkhay (শূন্য পথের অপেক্ষায়) was his maiden published poetry.

Also the world of fiction, especially thriller & horror fiction fascinated him and he started writing in this genre. His first published thriller fiction novel was Blackgate (ব্ল্যাকগেট), co-authored with Tarim Fuad. His other works are horror novel Tomisra (তমিস্রা) & conspiracy novel Circle (সার্কেল). He continued to produce poetry and to work on fiction novels.

বিষন্ন প্রহর। বেশ বড় কলেবরের একটা বই। যেখানে পাত্র পাত্রীর সংখ্যাও নেহাত কম না। টাইম লাইন ছিল একেধারে ৬-৭ টা। এক টাইম লাইনের গল্প শেষ করে সেই টাইম লাইনে ফিরে আসতে গেলেও গাদাখানিক পৃষ্ঠা বেমালুম পড়ে ফেলা যায়। এটাই সুবিধা আবার সেইসাথে একটু অসুবিধারও। বারবার পট পরিবর্তন আপনার বিরক্তির উদ্রেক ঘটাতে পারে। তাই পাঠকদের উচিত হবে একটানা পড়ে যাওয়ার।

গল্পটা জাভেদ ভাই দুর্দান্ত লিখেছেন। এটা এমনিই হওয়ার ছিল। আসগর মাহতাব শয়তানের পুজারী হলেও সে আদতে মানুষ। তার একটা দুর্বলতা থাকাটা আবশ্যকীয়। বাদবাকি চরিত্রগুলোও পূর্ববর্তী বইগুলোর মতোই। চরম আকর্ষণ ধরনের কিছু তৈরি হবে না। কিন্তু সাবলীল গদ্য আপনাকে সেইটুকু পুষিয়ে দেবে। ইরফান কে রক্ষাকারী অলৌকিক আলোর ঐ মেয়েটিকে পুরো বিষন্ন প্রহরে ভীষন মিস করেছি। তাকে নিয়ে একটা গল্প কি হতে পারে না? তাই 'বিষন্ন প্রহর' কে আমি তমিস্রা ভুবনের শেষ বলে মানতে পারছি না। এইটুকুই।

𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 (to make most sense): বিমর্ষ গোধূলি → কুরুকারা → তমিস্রা → অসূয়া → বিস্তৃত আঁধার → বিষণ্ণ প্রহর.

Some series close with answers. জাবেদ রাসিন’s Bangladeshi Gothic ‘বিষণ্ণ প্রহর’ closes with a question so large it swallows the ending whole — and has the nerve to call that a finale (till now).

Dhaka is burning. Teenage girls vanish into political smoke. From Gonobhaban, Asghar Mahtab pulls strings no parliamentary committee will ever trace. Javed Rasin's greatest sleight of hand is making you uncertain which crisis is cover for the other — the political, or the supernatural. In a country where both feel equally plausible, that uncertainty is the horror.

Bishonno Prohor (তমিস্রা ভুবন #5) is the sixth published installment of the Tomisra Bhubon/ The Tenebrous World series, as well as sixth by internal chronology till now. In sequence, threads you'd half-forgotten pull suddenly taut. Out of sequence, you'll be lost before Dhaka finishes burning.

At 592 pages with 6–7 parallel timelines, this is ambition wearing a book jacket. Call it Grief-Horror: not the terror of what attacks you, but the exhaustion of having survived this long. Characters who have fought these shadows across five books feel it in every scene. The reader feels it too.

The novel's signature strengths persist and deepen. Pages 106–111 deliver occult info-dumping done right — Islamic facts on countering black magic and djinn woven so naturally into thriller momentum that knowledge arrives before you've consented to learning. The same rare quality found in M. J. Babu’s ‘Jinn’. Rasin's unflinching portrait of Bangladesh's causal relationship with black magic — deployed for envy, petty revenge, personal ambition — remains the series' most culturally honest contribution. It isn't exotic folklore. It's social autopsy.

Asghar Mahtab is a villain worthy of nightmares. My personal reservation: the glimpse of his vulnerability — the Sesame thread — should have been withheld entirely. Pure monstrosity would have been far more chilling. The moment a monster becomes explicable, it becomes manageable. Rasin blinked. The prose around him carries that specific chill where evil doesn’t announce itself — it governs.

The problems here are harder to dismiss than in বিস্তৃত আঁধার, and I'll be direct about them. This installment leans on supernatural coincidence the way earlier books never allowed themselves to. The grounded, procedural texture that distinguished the series — the sense that horror had consequences, that it required investigation — gives way to djinn ex machina. Most readers will love the escalating spectacle. I came for something else, and felt its absence. The Ifrit–Marid war preparations drag with particular stubbornness. Afsara's arc — a child paying for her parents' sins — is genuinely moving and genuinely wasted; it deserved pages, receives a paragraph. Irfan and Priha's fates are left unresolved. The ending rushes in a way that feels less like artistic restraint and more like a writer who ran out of runway. I flagged the same breathlessness in বিস্তৃত আঁধার. In a finale, it's harder to excuse.

Iha Prokash: wrong character names on page 501 and elsewhere change meaning. This isn't a typo. It's negligence, and this series deserved better. My copy's binding failed too — though that didn't affect my rating (pun 😜).

One thing I'll raise plainly: extramarital affairs and sexual scenes appear with a frequency that tips from social realism into reflex. The intent — an honest portrait of contemporary Bangladeshi moral decay — is defensible. But volume without deliberateness is just noise. And conscious readers should navigate carefully where the fictional frame ends and the religious and cultural one begins. Rasin doesn't always make that boundary clear. Perhaps, in Bangladesh, neither does life.

Rasin doesn't offer resolution — he offers cycle — a new darkness inheriting its predecessor's power. The বিষণ্ণ প্রহর, the melancholy hour, may not be a conclusion at all. Just the latest shadow in a very old story. Because some stories don't end. They become someone else's beginning. That's either the most honest ending possible, or the most convenient one. I'm still deciding.

কাজের ব্যস্ততার ফাঁকে শেষ করে ফেললাম বিশাল কলেবরের বই "বিষন্ন প্রহর"। কাহিনীর বুনন বেশ ভাল ছিল। মাঝে মাঝে মনে হচ্ছিল এটা এ দেশের কোনও লেখকের লেখা বই নয়, ভিনদেশী থ্রিলার লেখকের লেখা কোনও বই পড়ছি। আফসারার জন্য খুব খারাপ লেগেছে। বাবা-মায়ের পাপের শাস্তির আঁচ বেচারি বাচ্চাটাকেও ছাড়ল না। অ্যান্টাগনিস্ট হিসেবে লেখক আসগর মাহতাবের চরিত্রটি ভয়ংকরভাবে ফুটিয়ে তুলেছেন। আমার ব্যক্তিগত অভিমত হল, আসগর মাহতাবের কোনও কোমল/দুর্বল দিক (সিসমি) না দেখালে আরও বেশি ভাল হত। অর্থাৎ একদম নির্দয় প্রকৃতির মানুষ। মারিদদের সাথে ইফ্রিতদের লড়াইয়ের প্রস্তুতি নেবার অধ্যায়গুলো পড়তে একটু বোর লাগছিল, বাদবাকি সবকিছুই ভাল। বইয়ের কলেবর যেমন বড়, চরিত্রের সংখ্যাও অনেক। মনে রাখতে বেশ বেগ পেতে হয়েছে। সব মিলিয়ে বেশ উপভোগ্য একটি হরর থ্রিলার।

▪️অনেকটা যেন এ বছরের জুলাই আগস্ট এর ব্যাপার গুলো তুলে ধরা হয়েছে এই বইটা তে!

▪️বিশাল আকারের বই সাথে অসংখ্য চরিত্র এবং তাদের গল্পের ছোটো ছোটো ব্যাখ্যা থাকা সত্ত্বেও একটুও বিরক্তি আসেনি। বরং একটানা পড়ে যাওয়ার আগ্রহ বাড়াচ্ছিল! পাতায় পাতায় থ্রিল।

▪️অনেক ইনফরমেশন দেয়া আছে, নতুন কিছু জানতে পেরে ভালো লেগেছে।

▪️জিন রিলেটেড বইগুলোর মধ্যে এম জে বাবুর জিন বইয়ের পর বিষণ্ণ প্রহর আমার দ্বিতীয় ফেভারিট! যদিও আমার মনে হয়েছে যে শেষের ব্যাপার গুলা তড়িঘড়ি তে এগিয়েছে!

Groosome details sometimes lead to fantasy which breaks the seriousness of the matter. But thriller is one of the ways to disguise the real conspiratorial plot within. Apart from the pessimistic formulation and large characters, it's a good book depicting a partial but deep view of the modern world reality. The genealogy of such matters is pulled from religion, human experience and folklore. Conscious readers should be careful in comprehending the fictional part along with the religious part.

অসাধারণ লেখা। প্রথমে ভেবেছিলাম এত মোটা বই অনেকদিন লাগবে পড়তে। কিন্তু খুবই দ্রুত শেষ হয়ে গেল।
