As someone who first discovered alternative music in early 1970 I thought this book was an absolute delight . The author, who was a music journalist at the time, writes in exceptional detail about music he clearly loved but also with a bit of humour and valid criticism. He set parameters for the subject matter and kept within them but also describes how and why most UK progressive music succumbed to the arrival of punk, new wave and post punk in the late 70s and early 80s.
