"Terry carries God's anointing and is a living example, and leader, in "The Power of Praise and Worship. His book is dynamic. Its truths move me to God, and you will be moved too.
Reviewers Note: It is the beginning of 2025 and one of the skills I desire to grow in is that of writing book reviews (having never done this before). I am doing this so I can better hone my writing (and reading) skills as I seek to think more critically about the books I am reading. I am sharing on Goodreads for my own personal development. I know this will be something I am always growing in so if you actually read these, please be patient with me as I develop this skill. I will also receive constructive criticism if you desire to help me become a better writer (and reader). I plan to use this disclaimer for the entire 2025 year.
The Power of Praise and Worship by Terry Law 370 Pages
I cried before I got out of the introduction. Does that make it a good book or not? Who knows! I actually enjoyed the book. It was an easy read and story driven. I was not familiar with Terry Law or his story before reading the book. This book was recommended in a previous book I had read so I added it to my wish list and waited for it to go on sale.
The main premise is that praise and worship releases the power of God. I believe this but because my praise is not energetic, I struggle to believe that my praise and worship releases power. To be clear, the book does not say your praise has to be energetic. That is my own faulty view of what worship should look like.
After reading the book, I found myself thanking God more often which was a good thing. I also found myself encouraging others to be thankful. And I prayed more for churches (generally) to have a spirit of praise in their congregations. It sometimes feels like it is a show but the truth is any worship will contain both true worship and shallow praise.
I don’t always read the epilogue but if you read the book make sure you read it. Good ending to the story.
I already recommended it to a woman on a worship team and would recommend it to anyone who leads or is on a worship team.
This is quite a book! It has three topics connected with Terry Law: his work with World Compassion Ministries; the loss of his first wife and divorce from his second; and the power of prayer and worship in his ministry and personal life. God's power is found in the Word of God, the Name of Jesus, and the Blood of Jesus. Thanksgiving focuses on God's deeds; praise focuses on God's character; and worship relates to God's holiness. A sacrifice of praise is choosing to praise God in our brokenness and emptiness, then God is revealed in our lives. Praise brings the power of God's presence into our lives.
The first part of the book was amazing, I will recommend it to others. The second part was not as compelling as the first. It was food for thought. Some of it I will surely put into practice. Some I will leave alone.
Terry Law and Living Sound were one of the Ministries that profoundly impacted my life the year (1975) I came to the Lord in Morristown, NJ. The group performed a concert at a school in the area and I took my, then 15 yr daughter to the concert and I was introduced to praise and worship and anointed preaching. Reading this book took me back to that day when I first heard, “it is finished”, the list of my sins was nailed to Jesus’ cross! What a wonderful man of God and what a wonderful ministry and life story is presented in this book!
A Powerful Reminder of the Absolute Relevance of Praise and Worship
This book has been a huge source of comfort. As a divorcee, there were times that I felt absolutely condemned. This book has helped to eradicate those feelings. But more importantly, the significance of Praise and Worship struck home . THIS IS A GOOD READ FO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO KNOW MORE ABOUT PRAISE AND WORSHIP.
New appreciation for Praise and Worship (& Thanksgiving)
Well written and organized. I appreciate each scripture reference and its application to the Chapter(s) subject.
I found the content very thought provoking and admit I never enjoyed the worship service portion of church. I have a new appreciation for what it’s about. Thank you!
The Best Book On Importance of Praise I have ever read!
My husband and I did an in-depth study reading a couple of paragraphs a day. His book enriched our lives and led us much deeper on our walk! A MUST READ
“God calls His people to celebrate Him with singing and playing, and then He promises to do a little drumming of His own, on the back of the enemy!” - Terry Law, The Power of Praise and Worship
Coming off of a recommendation for my pastor, Terry Law's book is something I think every Christian should at least be given an outline of. The power of your words and praise and worship can't be understated. Law didn't go too heavily on personal testimony once he was into the meat of the message, but sprinkled it in enough to keep it grounded and stop it from being too esoteric. I'm buying a copy for myself.
This book has given me inspiration as to how I can encourage praise in our worship service while leading the singing. I am still mulling over all the process, but did find it helpful.
A teaching by both precept and then example with real life stories and testimonies.
I am an ex-prisoner who received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit while "Tarrying" on my news in another brothers cell. My whole world changed that night and all the teaching I had received growing up as a preacher's kid took on a new dimension. I heard Brother Terry Law on the Believer's voice of Victory with brother Kenneth Copeland. I immediately ordered his book Storm Chasers. His life and mine seemed a lot alike. While reading his life as God move into it and how God supplied his needs reminded me of Corrie Ten Boom and God's Smuggler, Brother Andrew. My wife kept asking why I was shedding buckets of tears. Joyously my heart and spiritual was connecting with brother Terry. When I finished I had to read this book also. Brother Jim Gilbert gave an outside view as he watched what his friend had gone through and gave some pointed teaching insights as well. Brother Terry..I love you and hope to meet you on my next trip to Tulsa if at all possible. I use to live in Muskogee and I graduated Them a Bible School while in prison. I miss Dad Hagin. Storm Chasers and this book go hand in hand with wisdom on knowing God and coming into worship. A must read. Thank you brother Jim and Terry In tHis love.
