Blood Hunters #5

Blood Chills

Rate this book
From sensitivity to sensuality... with the vampire who chills her blood.

Cyn can sense undead presence from a touch, from the feel of the air. Her gift leads her mercenary band of hunters on the trail of a monster who's killed two women in New York—to the being Cyn least wants to set eyes on the Hungarian vampire, Bela.

Now the iconic violinist with a local rock band, Bela seems less interested in proving his innocence—if, indeed, he is innocent—than in seducing Cyn—no easy task when the very presence of vampires sickens her. Plus Cyn wants revenge for the murdered women, and for her partner Rudy who lies in hospital, critically injured.

But neither Cyn's gifts, nor the killer she pursues, are exactly what they seem. Allying with Bela might be a lethal mistake, but as everyone she loves comes under attack, Cyn finally learns to trust her instincts, and discovers much more than the intense physical pleasures behind her chills.

After fighting alongside of the ancient vampire Saloman and being present at the birth of his child, it's time for Cyn to return to her life in New York with her merry band of unsanctioned hunters. It's not long before Cyn's group is tasked to investigate the deaths of humans in her childhood neighbourhood. Though all of the evidence points to Bela, Cyn's instincts are telling her to trust the vampire and become his ally. The problem is that Bela wants more than her trust and though her mind rejects the possibility of being with a vampire, her body has other ideas.

Essentially, Blood Chills is a paranormal romance. The relationship follows the typical pattern of boy meets girl and they don't like each other, followed by the couple getting together before a misunderstanding drives them apart. Of course, the couple then has a reconciliation and the readers are treated to the exceedingly predictable HEA. I will, however, give Treanor credit for stretching out the romance between Cyn and Bella so that they were not declaring undying love after knowing each other for a ridiculously short period of time.

Though much of the series was fixated on the budding romance between Cyn and Bela, Treanor did manage to include an interesting story line. For a good section of the book, she managed to keep me guessing as to who the antagonist was and what his motivations were. As much as this is paranormal romance, the plot could have stood on it's own without it, particularly because Treanor continues to enlarge her world and relate more about vampire lore with each book.

That said, Blood Chills was still highly trope laden. Cyn is verbally clear on several occasions that she does not want to be touched but Bela, of course, ignores this because he can smell her lust.

The implication was clear and heated her tormented body unbearably. His lips, a curiously attractive half smile. On a murderous monster who'd almost killed her friend. Rudy could still die."You disgust me," she whispered.
He considered her as if he had no intention of removing himself in the foreseeable future."Not entirely true.Vampires can smell arousal, you know. Yours is sweet and powerful. Like your blood."
"And humans are much, much more than chemical reactions.Get off me you self-satisfied prick"
He blinked, his lips parting in something close to shock.
Shit, now he's mad. So not clever, Cyn...
The vampire threw back his head and laughed. The deep rumbling was oddly infectious and yet made her shiver for no reason she wanted to understand. But although he eased some of his weight off of her, he didn't release her hands. Looked at in the right way- and she was pretty desperate her- this was a good thing. It meant he acknowledged that she could still damage him. (pg. 32-33)
Cyn rejects Bela for large sections of the book and he keeps pushing himself upon her until she finally gives in. This is supposed to be sexy? This is a supposed foundation for a HEA? A man who thinks "no" simply means try harder until you get a yes? This is rape culture at it's finest and should never be mistaken for romance, or seduction. Cyn even goes as far as to try to kill Bela several times but he sees it as foreplay and certainly not rejection. More importantly, why does Bella consider that she should let go of her "free will" (pg 67) to engage in sex with Bela? In the end, sex becomes something Bela does to Cyn and not something they do to pleasure each other; it's an act of dominance.

OMG! Ok so I have been waiting for this book to come out and it was so worth it. Book Five of the Blood Hunters series is a sensual, sexy, and suspenseful story that I loved, my favorite by far. I swear these books just keep getting better. Cyn the modest beauty and kick ass fighter unofficial Hunter finds her match with Bela. Bela who has dedicated himself to Angyalka and the bar the Angel, but when he looks in to the eyes of the beautiful hunter the night Soloman's baby was born over the dying body of John Ramsey he has thought of nothing else for months.

Months later Cyn and her band of merry non-hunters are in New York looking for a serial vampire killer. Hired by the residents of the area where the killings are taking place staking out the area Rudy, Cyn's best friend and father figure, was attacked almost killed. Cyn has ancient's blood, her ancestors were ancients like Soloman, and has a sensitivity to vampires and the vampire she senses is none other than Bela. Bela the bald scary looking vampire with the chain dangling from one ear who has haunted Cyn since that night. Cyn doesn't want to like Bela, but she can't help it she also can't help but believe him when he says he's innocent.

Bela knows who it is, but he is letting Cyn and her guys figure it out themselves the only hint he gives them is that it is not a vampire, but a hunter. Calling in the pathologist from Hungary they find out the wounds inflicted are made from a knife mark and human teeth, not vampire teeth. Bela helps Cyn hone her talents where she can now speak telepathically with vampires and the killer. After the attack on Rudy they are all on alert, the New York hunters who are ignoring the facts and the American leader of the vampires who are warning Bela off. Cyn's mother who is suffering from Alzheimer's is attacked in her nursing home, defending herself with the stake Cyn left with her. But it wasn't a vampire who attacked her but a human who then killed another woman right after.

They figure out whodunit and the books still not over, the killer gets away due to the crappy New York hunters negligence and Bela chases after him. Bela and Cyn got quite attached to each other with some steamy scenes to get you all hot and bothered, and Bela leaving without a word to Cyn hurts her more then she wants to admit. A couple months later with still no word from the killer or Bela, Cyn gets word that they have work back in Budapest. Angyalka needs help with vampires breaking rules in her club and needs a neutral third party to help get to the bottom of it. Bela is also back in Budapest, and still wants Cyn more then ever. Together again figure it out someone has the vampires hypnotized to bite and fight breaking the rules at the Angel. Together again in even more exhausting steamy hot scenes Cyn falls in love with Bela.

An exciting page turner I am so happy Cyn finally got her book and tapped into her talent to be a better hunter. Bela has softened with Cyn in his life. I really liked it.

The Blood Hunters Series consists of, now, five books each focusing on various characters while contributing to an overall story. Each novel comes to a definite ending, however you really need to read the previous books to understand each one. It just so happens that Marie Treanor is selling her first book in this delightful series for a mere .99……So get hoppin people!!!

Marie Treanor’s writing grabbed me and didn’t let me go. I found myself drawn in immediately and didn’t want to put down the book. The writing flows nicely and allows the reader to really absorb the story. I tried the first book in the series on a lark and was very happy I did.

One of the main differences in this book, when compared to the previous novels, is that it starts in America and moves to Budapest. With this we get a nice introduction to Cyn and her merry band of mercenary hunters.

In New York, a vampire serial killer is on the loose. Cyn and her fellow mercenaries are trying to find the killer before anyone else dies. Cyn, the leader of this group of mercenaries, is a tough, self-sufficient woman. She is no damsel in distress and I simply love that about her. In her search for the renegade vampire, she comes across Bela.

Ahh Bela. You love to hate him. Bela makes no excuse for what he is, a vampire with a hell of a sex drive. The phrase, loveable rake comes to mind when thinking of Bela. He is loyal to a few and kills without a qualm. Having recently decided to tour the world with a band of musicians, Bela is in New York when the killings begin. Coincidence? Cyn doesn’t seem to think so. While under suspicion of murder, Bela begins his pursuit of Cyn. What a pursuit it is. Bela makes some less than savory decisions which shines a light on his less than scrupulous character. At one point I really wanted Cyn to introduce him to a sharp, pointy stake. But Bela does have some redeemable qualities, although no one would ever accuse him of being a saint.

I don’t want to give away too much because there are some twists and turns in this book. But I will say what I love the most about Marie Treanor’s heroines is that they are not the wilting flower found in most paranormal romance novels. There are so many paranormal romances where the woman is weak, suffering from some childhood trauma, and needs her knight in shinning armor. That ain’t happening here. These heroines are fighters and equals to the alpha males that pursue them. I will always be partial to Mihaela but, Cyn is certainly running a close second.

I highly recommend this new installment and, if you haven’t read Treanor’s work before, hope you guys give this series a try. For 99 cents you can’t go wrong! Happy reading!!!!!

Blood Chills. (Blood Hunters, Book 5). Marie Treanor
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
I love Marie's writing style, a mix of paranormal, good exiting plot and lots of erotic sensuality. Perfect :) So book five was a must have, this has been a great series. Once again we focus on one couple but others we've met feature heavily in the book. Cyn saw Bela at Elizabeth and Saloman's baby's birth. She was both scared and peculiarly entranced by him. He seems to have a riveting attraction for her, despite his scary, chilling exterior. She doesn't want to like him, she's not keen on vampires as a whole, her ancient blood means she's especially sensitive to them, and as a mercenary Hunter she's slowly accepting the new dictates that not all vampires are bad. She's on the hunt for a killer though and all things point to Bela who has turned up in the location...
Cyn, I liked her. She tries to be practical, tries hard to do what is right and is very loyal to her friends. That loyalty almost gets her killed. Bela; I didn't know much about him before except in relation to Angyalka. He's strongly attracted to Cyn, and that surprises him, he wants her sexually, that's normal – but he seems to have other feelings for her and he's confused. He's been alone, and a loner for hundreds of years so why does he feel like that about Cyn. How is he going to get what he wants, her in his bed, he always gets what he desires, so for him its just a puzzle and chase to be begun. The puzzle ends up on him though.
Again, a believable and realistic storyline, ( given the parameters of fantasy I feel that there still needs to be realism in the plots), a puzzle to be solved, danger and a killer to be tracked down and found, a developing love story and of course Marie's trademark erotic and sensual sex scenes. She manages to make them fit the plots brilliantly, bringing together characters that on the face seemed totally unmatched by who complement each other perfectly. Priced at £187 for 245 pages on kindle its a bargain.
Stars: Five, once a gain a great read and one for the keepers file.

The fifth book in the Blood Hunter series is a thrilling read that keeps in readers in shivering in suspense and sensual delight. With her sense of the undead by touch or the feel from the air, Cyn leads her mercenary band of hunters on the trail of a monster. Her trail leads her to the Hungarian vampire Bela who is now playing in a local band and doesn’t seem as interested in proving his innocence – if he is – than he does in seduction her. But Cyn soon discovers that all is not what it seems with this killer that she pursues and as everyone she loves comes under attack, she’ll have to learn to trust her instincts.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on their toes with lots of suspense, action and romance. The author uses well written scenes and events which inspire vivid images that capture the imagination and well orchestrated action scenes that grab the reader’s attention. The spine tingling suspense and the sensual pleasure throughout draws the reader deeper into the story and the strong compelling characters are easily related to and have the reader wanting to know more.

The attraction between Cyn and Bela radiates heat from every page and the sex scenes are hot and steamy. The relationship however is rocky and has sparks flying in every direction, Bela hunts vampires and she’s super sensitive to their presence which makes things interesting for Bela when he decides to pursue her and the fact that he is Cyn’s latest suspect in her hunt for the monster just adds lots of spice to this already rockin’ romance.

I always enjoy Marie’s books and this one is no different, the tenuous detente between the vampires and hunters continues to keep things interesting, and the characters are captivating and inspire curiosity that keeps the readers coming back for more. The author adds some surprises along the way and keeps the reader guessing with some tantalizing twists and turns.

This review is from: Blood Chills (Blood Hunters) (Kindle Edition)

I have read and loved Marie Treanor's books since 2008. I have yet to read one I didn't love and the trend still continues. This book is a continuation of the BloodHunters series. It will help if you have read the rest of the books because you will already know all the supporting characters. However, this book can easily be read as a stand alone. It is the story of Cyn, a vampire hunter with psychic abilities. and Bela, a vampire who only cares about doing his job as a bouncer in a vampire club and fiddle player with his musical group in clubs around the world. The two are thrown together when someone starts killing humans and attempting to make everyone believe they were killed by vampires. The storyline pulls you in from the first page and doesn't let you go. You are rooting for the good guys and gals through the whole book. I cannot say enough to try to convince you to read this series if you haven't and especially if you love paranormal stories. You will LOVE THIS BOOK! TRUST ME!

When I first saw that the latest installment in Marie Treanor's "Blood Hunters" series was available, I was absolutely excited at the prospect of reading it... Also, the fact that this was essentially an Interracial Romance with a Paranormal Twist, made my day as well..

Although I absolutely love, love, love Marie Treanor's books, in my opinion this one was good, but it wasn't spectacular, nor was it totally captivating...

In the beginning there's a considerable amount of lag, but after the initial 15% mark, the book begins to pick up steam and draw you into the world of "Cyn" and her gypsy-like Vampire nemesis/lover "Bela."

The thing that I really liked about these two characters is that the sexual angst was written with finesse, and the sex scenes were well written as well.

Other than that, I enjoyed being wrapped up in this world of sensual vampires and the hunters who love (& pursue)them...

Giving this one: 3 solid stars.

So what the fuck happened with Bela and the redhead at the end of the book? Pete said - " Bela bit a woman just around the corner from the Angel and went off with her in front of everyone. " this was after we had Bela's POV of him picking out the redhead - and no I didn't get any of my answers from his POV it was vague. Did he just drink her blood and then walk off with her to make Cyn jealous even though she wasn't there to see it but her friends where? Or did he take blood then walk off with her and have sex? Because that's what was implied. I hate lose ends especially with him already having sex with some one else when they were separated.

I'm taking away stars for the redhead... It pissed me the fuck off, why the hell wasn't it mentioned. I would so be asking him about that shit. Any time any of the heroins of this series has doubts about the vampire sexing someone else up - we get nothing. Just them thinking about it and then it makes me think about it, but nothing is ever resolved!

We also hardly ever get any up to date info on the past characters.... Wish we would get some updates on them.

Marie Treanor’s Blood Hunters series just keeps getting better and better with the latest, Blood Chills. Usually an author will drop the ball on a series but that is not the case here. As usual, there are plenty of twists and turns in this story, which keep it from being predictable. One of the best is the character, Bela. You aren’t sure if you love him or hate him, so you keep trying to figure out what Cyn should do with him. He is definitely a flawed character; he knows it and he doesn’t care. What else does this story have? Characters who are opposites but have one serious hot attraction to each other? Absolutely. A strong female lead in Cyn? Without a doubt. A character driven story? As always in her books. Sassy dialogue and interaction between characters? You know it. Bottom line, Marie Treanor is on her game with this one. You just know that Cyn will catch her man, I mean vampire, in the end, but what fun to go along with her as she does it.

So in love with our hero Bela and still enjoying the series. In fact I hate that this is the fifth one and there is only one left as reading this series has made the last two weeks go swiftly and as a reader I am most grateful. Our author manages to give each book a little magic something that keeps us entertained while we are subjected to plenty of tough action, feisty women and deliciously sexy men who like to bite and end up getting more than just a bit of blood.
This is a great series that doesn't fail to keep us interested and feeds our need for romance with a badass heroine and a vampire bad boy who together make the world a better place.
