I first encountered Red Sonja in the pages of The Savage Sword of Conan and she made an excellent challenge for the mighty Cimmerian.

This book contains one story in 5 installments in which Sonja travels the wastelands in search of a mytical bloodruby, she encounter cannibals and a possible future king in the form of Prince and his beloved wife.
With any jewel comes a scepter when the two meet there is generally some great power and the hands that yield such power are not always trusted.
A fairly decent and straight forward sword & sorcery tale not unlike many of Conans' tales in which the warrior has to survive magic and monsters.
The art however is a letdown to square in drawing the various characters, mostly does not do Sonja any favors.

Nice, simple straightforward story without too many frills but good mount of cliches put together. It works very well. I really liked those long silent action scenes.
But I did not like the squarey art. It was clumsy.

Red Sonja goes looking for a ruby in the desert that is said to be cursed. She gets it and then finds out there's a scepter that is supposed to make it more valuable. It's a decent story. The art isn't very good though.

Not bad, and I liked the funky artwork, but the story was a little uninspired.
