I haven't been here a lot lately...I know but try to hang in there and don't let your grief overwhelm you. Anyway, trying to be a bit more active I'm (trying again) to at least note books I've enjoyed immensely.
Here we have a light read in the relatively new genre "litrpg". Of course it's not so new as to not have had a glut of mediocre to poor efforts clog our book store shelves and audio book lists (yes, yes I know and the Ebook lists to, sigh. Okay so I've never been able to like Ebooks. I've tried, I just...can't. Enjoy if it's your cup of tea).
"Anywho", I enjoyed this and when I was disappointed that it was the first in a series that has no further entries I was disappointed. That convinced me to go the "full-five" here.
So, here we go, short comments trying to avoid spoilers. This is another where the world has been "taken over" by some kind of ""system" and we're all caught in a sort of extended game type environment, except of course here dead is dead not a restart.
Our main character some how manages to sleep through the end of the world and the "game tutorial" so he gets saddled (or is it saddled???) with an unusual and seemingly distasteful character class.
He's a "Blood Reaver" (humm my spell check has never seen the word "reaver" before, oh well). Anyway he heals by his enemies bllo and maybe there are even more powers to come...try reading it and see.
So in general I like many of the litrpg books I've read the problem is finding ones that are any good. I've disliked far more than I've liked (the same thing happened to "Urban Fantasy" a few years ago). This one however I can recommend. Enjoy.

I saw a handful of low star reviews for this and i understand why. This book took a lot of what was expected for the series plot and tuned it on its head.
This felt like a giant side quest. I kept waiting for us to return to the main plot, only to figure out that this is what the main plot is now. And it's not bad. We got a lot of world-building here, and the what's what of things gets fleshed out a bit. Plus a pirate adventure? Hot dog.
I miss the original plot point. I miss a lot of side characters. I still had a great time and I'm still down for book 3....whatever that entails.

Terrible lazy writing
The end of this book completely negates any point to anything that comes before. It's so ridiculous and stupid that it's not worth reading. It's a fucking joke and I feel dumber for having read it. Don't waste your time. This author just wanted to have a reason to turn his character into a blooddrinker and forced it on a plot that had no inclination of going that way. His character is so weak willed and yellow-bellied. I wasted my time on this piece of filth the author dared called a novel.

Disappointing
I had high hopes for this series after the first book, but it went totally off the rails and I now only feel frustration, and no motivation to continue to read. One overcomable obstacle and unbearable power after another just feels too much like real life right now. And that ending? Killed any desire I had to keep going.

Just horrible.
The characters are idiots. The system rules are so haphazard as to be pointless. The general storyline is just lacking any real foundation. I quit a third of the way through.

This series is infuriating. I love the premise and was enjoying the first book until the end, when out of nowhere Lucas gave up and accepted the dubious help of the vampire goddess. I was perplexed by the reasoning used as even Lucas knew this was a bad idea.
It took me a few weeks to digest it, but eventually I came back for the second book. Lucas still acted somewhat strangely to actual torture and such. I got over it and started to enjoy the series again and was excited to see Lucas going his own path. Well the joke is on me I guess. In the last 5 minutes of the book he pleadges his loyalty to Roan, a god that has been seen to just do whatever he wants, even though Lucas thought it was a bad idea. I'm all for a hard time when it comes to the struggles of a protagonist, but all this wishy-washy nonsense just finished me off.
Yes, he is angry that this happened. (Thank god, at least something.) And Daisy gave him a note with a deus ex machina escape from this soul slavery that Lucas just agreed to. That just feels cheap.
I've read many books and I know that I only get really annoyed when I like it, but something is just way off. I'm unsure if I'll continue this series. Maybe I just need a few weeks to digest it again and the next book is going to be better.
P.S. the audiobook performance by Jonathan Waters was phenomenal.

The Series did not get better from book 1. All trials and tribulations, rewards and growth, also the plot are erased because gods. It is a progression story without meaning and agency. You are better off not reading this depressing story.

Great book
This is an incredible series, and I think this book was better than the first. I will admit I was really surprised at the ending.

A cracking good read. I love the callousness of the gods and the system. A few spelling mistakes and grammatical errors here and there, but otherwise definitely worth reading. On to book #3!
