A page-turner, for sure. I grew to love both main characters by the end, and by halfway through I could hardly put it down. As a Minnesotan, it felt personal and fun to have so many references to different parts of the state, and I felt like I have a better understanding of the inside workings of the life of a journalist. My one personal dislike is the prevalence of lying to get the job done, which is a theme so embraced throughout the story that it made the concept of journalists being champions of uncovering the truth a bit ironic. So maybe my real hang up is with journalism itself? The Muckraker made me really think about journalism and the medical industry and where the line is between shady practice and the ultimate good. A book that leads me to think deeply is always a win. I look forward to reading more from this author!

At first the storyline was a bit confusing, going between a female reporter in the 1920's (a rarity in that time; she had to use her first initial last name for her byline) and a female reporter in current time. As the story progresses the two paths "cross" in a most unexpected and amazing way! A story has to be great, or end in spectacular fashion, to get a 5 star rating for me - this story has both, and then some!! You won't regret reading / listening to this one! 10 out of 10

We read this for our book club and then invited the author to speak this month, but I had to miss her as I was on vacation. I liked this book good enough to give it 3.5 stars, just not enough to round it up to 4. It was a dual timeline and I enjoyed both stories and their characters, especially Sophie and Bizzie. Things felt a little 'jerky' in the telling, maybe just a little too simple at times.

I couldn’t put this page turner down! I love mysteries that are character driven and The Muckraker does not disappoint! The back and forth chapters between the two main characters kept me hooked until the end when it all came together and we learned how they lived 100 years apart but their stories deeply intertwined. I’m looking forward to future books by author Maggie Sonnek!
