Honestly, this was such a cute read! Every detail on the characters of Kilala, Rei, Sylphy, and all of the Disney princesses (minus Snow White and Ariel, which are in volumes 1 and 2) were executed well. I could tell that Nao Kodaka and Rita Tanaka knew a lot about the Disney princesses stories and were able to capture that spirit of the movie, while also keeping in theme to the original story. It was clever to see how throughout the story, Kilala came into her own. Going from someone who didn’t feel worthy of the title, “princess” slowly but surely is able to feel more confidence in becoming worthy of the title, Princess of Paradiso overtime.

The main highlight for me was the art of every character. They all had their own distinct art style. For instance, Kilala and Rei’s art style is lighter which could represent innocence and lightness in the character’s personality. On the other hand, we get darker imagery and lines through Sylphy, Valdou, and the villains representing the villanious sides to all of these characters. I love the artwork in this story despite not having any specific colors used, Nao Kodaka did a great job of enrapturing the feelings of the character’s feelings/facial expressions and all of the princesses designs were a great balance of Manga design and the original design.

One thing that bugged me in this story was the rushing of some of the princesses stories. I understand trying to keep the pacing of the story so it doesn’t drag on, however I do wish we got to see the characters slowly develop overtime. I think the princesses could’ve given her some guidance (with the exception of Cinderella), I wish we could’ve seen these friendship of Kilala and the princesses develop overtime, think i would’ve felt more inclined to connect to the friendship Kilala gains with each princess.

Overall, this was a cute story but note that it’s crucial you read volumes 1-2 in order to understand where we are in the story. Also, I would be curious to see what her friendship was with Snow White and Ariel, though I can read that in the other volumes!

Wow... I enjoyed this series so much!!! The art was so stunning, and the plot really ramped up in a nice way. I like how they introduced a new character, I think she really added to the story. It also had a really good ending.... just wow!! A very well-written and illustrated series. I'd recommend for ages 10 and up. Give it a go!
