The Cavanaugh brothers left behind River Black, Texas, long ago. But after their father dies, bequeathing them the Triple C, a cattle ranch that sustains their small town, they return—and confront the painful memories of their childhood home and the truth about their sister’s murder…

For years, James Cavanaugh has traveled the world as a horse whisperer, but even the millions he’s earned hasn’t healed the pain he hides behind his stoic exterior. Forced to tackle old demons at the ranch, James throws himself into work to avoid his true feelings. Until he meets a woman who shakes the foundations of his well-built walls…

Sheridan O’Neil’s quiet confidence has served her well, except when it comes to romance. Tired of rejection, she’s ready to swear off men. But after being rescued from a horse stampede by the most beautiful cowboy she’s ever met, her resolve wavers. Only, as Sheridan uncovers James’s belief that no woman is safe with him, she wonders if such a wounded man could ever give in to love, or if some hearts are too broken to be healed…

Broken was the second book in the Cavanaugh Brothers series by Laura Wright.

James Cavanaugh was the oldest Cavanaugh brother. He was known as the Horse Whisperer from his calm way with horses. Sheridan O’Neal was Deacon Cavanaugh’s (book one) assistant. She was proficient, organized and very formal - a city girl through and through. We met them both previously and the sparks flew immediately.

Broken started exactly where book one, Branded, left off. The storyline was multi-faceted. The main focus was the friendship and relationship development between James and Sheridan but secondary plots centered around the previous death of James’ younger sister (Cass), local town drama and the dynamics between the Cavanaugh brothers.

Broken was a fitting title. Both James and Sheridan were scarred from their past, although James had much more baggage to overcome. I liked both characters but they were a little cold. I would have liked more depth into their issues. The draw for me for the series - other than sexy cowboys - was the suspense. Wright revealed one tidbit of information regarding Cass’s death in each book but I craved more, which would add additional depth and complexity to the overall story. As a result, I rated it a 3.5, which rounds to a 4 on this rating site.

Al in all, it was entertaining and Wright provided a teaser to lead into the next book. Cole Cavanaugh, Cass’s twin brother, is up next in Brash.

3.5 stars. ARC Review

One of the best things about this series so far is the over-arching mystery of who killed Cass Cavanaugh. It is brilliant to use long-lost journal entries to advance this storyline. It captures the reader’s attention and keeps the tension high. By the end of the story, I am begging for just one more clue!

Broken features the story of the second Cavanaugh brother, James. He is immediately taken with his brother’s executive assistant, city-girl Sheridan. However, James has serious guilt-issues to overcome and that makes him shy away from his intense draw to her. Sheridan is a focused, ambitious and determined businesswoman. She does not have the time for a relationship and convincing James that he deserves love is going to take a lot of time and effort.

Clearly, Laura Wright knows how to write a hot romance. There is sexual tension, sweet tenderness, and lots of good banter. My one critique is that I think James maybe takes on too much responsibility for what has happened to the women in his life. I realize that it is a matter of degrees, but the idea that his guilt leads him to believe that he is no woman is safe around him – that he is a bad luck curse to the women in his life – is a little over the top for me.

Just a note about the cover: I am completely taken by the covers for this series, but none more so than this book. There is something completely compelling about this model, the look in his eye, the expression on his face that totally calls to me. I know that we are not suppose to judge a book by its cover, but how about just buying the book to enjoy the eye-candy?

More than just a hot cover, Broken continues the irresistible murder mystery and adds a good little spice. A must read in the series.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.

Can such a wounded man ever give in to love? Meet the man will have to face his demons in this heart gripping contemporary romance. James Cavanaugh throws himself into work to avoid his true feelings until Sheridan shakes the very foundations of his well-built walls but is his heart too broken to be healed…

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot captivates readers with suspense and romance. The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and details that make the reader feel as if they are part of the story and the well orchestrated scenes draw the readers deeper into the story of these strong compelling characters.

James and Sheridan’s attraction for each other explodes from the pages, but between the two the relationship is consumed by emotional issues and the healing of their wounded hearts captures the heart of the reader. James’ tragic past has kept him away from home and emotionally locked down, but his brother’s need him and he can’t stay away from Sheridan. Sheridan’s childhood was no picnic and she’s tired of being rejected but the Cavanaugh family is determined to break down her walls. The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the emotional turmoil surrounding this couple as they try to work through their issues.

I fell for the Cavanaugh brothers in the first book and I must say they have stolen even more of my heart with this one. Looking for answers to what happened to their sisters adds danger and excitement and as they slowly uncover information, they start to heal the pain of the past and look toward the future. James and Sheridan’s story ensnared me from the very beginning and I can’t wait to read the next one.

As a huge fan of Laura Wright and cowboy romances, I was a little disappointed with BROKEN. I loved the first book in the series, BRANDED, and I expected great things from the next installment, but it didn't get there for me. You still have the mystery and the suspense surrounding the Cavanaugh brother's sister's murder, and that is what kept me engaged the whole way through.

I loved James Cavanaugh, but the relationship with Sheridan seemed a little forced. I didn't get that intense connection that I want from the main characters in a romance. It seemed to me that Cole Cavanaugh's story kept pushing its way to the forefront of this story. I found myself wondering more about Cole and his life, rather than being able to focus on what is going on with James and Sheridan.

The ending is what confirmed my disappointment. It was so anticlimactic. It ended abruptly, and I just wanted to scream.

Even though, BROKEN missed the mark with me, I will continue this series as it comes out. This book did get me more and more excited for BRASH, the third book in the series, and I absolutely NEED to find out what happened to their sister. An okay read, some suspense, some angst, but the romance didn't reel me in enough.

***I was given this book in exchange for an honest review as part of the Goodreads First Reads program*** Ms. Wright was a new author for me and being that I’m usually more into Urban Fantasy than cowboys I was a bit surprised how much I enjoyed it. This is the second book in the Cavanaugh Brothers series and I recommend reading them in order. Each of the Cavanaugh boys has their own way of dealing with the murder of their sister and the aftermath of never knowing what happened. James works with horses and stays far away from relationships with people as a way of dealing with his pain and fear of failing those he loves. Sheridan is Deacon's ubercompetent executive assistant. She is closed off emotionally due to childhood issues stemming from her father’s abandonment and mother’s life lessons. I loved the tale of James and Sheridan. This steamy cowboy meets city girl romance is really well written and thoroughly engaging. I love how the murder mystery is threaded throughout the series tying them together. Each book gives you new clues and I really want to find out what happened to Cass. I fear I’m hooked and am only sorry I will have to wait a while for Cole’s story.

Not as good as book 1 but still enjoyed most of it. The mystery of Cass Cavanagh is still causing turmoil . This time our hero is James who has blamed himself all these years for his baby sister's death. He's avoided love for a while. Sheridan is one person he could not keep his walls up against. Lots of push pull.. Actually a tad too much. But I still needed to know what would happen. One thing is for sure. This author pens amazing alphas with the best dialogue and banter.

I love it when a series builds on a beginning and just seems to get better with the sequel. I loved the situation that brought the Cavanaugh brothers back together after the death of their father, their determination to find out what really happened when their young sister was killed, and explore the personal pain that each brother experiences from which only the right woman can help him heal. In this instance, its James' turn.

The story opens right where the first book left off- and yes, that means they need to be read in order and I assume it will be that way for the whole series as there are several strong plot threads that run through the books.

Deacon is pushing through business and other details to clear time for his wedding and honeymoon, Mac is left continuing her work on the ranch plus planning for her wedding, and the rest are left in limbo awaiting the wedding, awaiting outcome for the ranch after Blue disappeared and working to find the truth about Cass' death. Into the middle of this, Sheridan O'Neil finds herself not only working on getting her boss' Redemption Ranch project finished, but helping Mac with her wedding plans. Sheridan has never had a friend or a relationship because it is safer to keep a distance from people because then she'll never get hurt like her mother when her dad left. But Mackenzie Byrd is a force of nature and she has decided that Sheridan will not only help, but be her friend.

James was taken with Sheridan the moment he encountered her. Even though his brain says to keep his distance, he can't seem to listen. Sheridan makes it clear that she doesn't do relationships either and that she's there to do her job for his brother, but he pushes for a little more. Then when she gets threatened and hurt, everything changes and he can't keep away. In the meantime, he and his brothers try to get answers out of Grace Hunter about what her dad the former sheriff knows about Cass' murder, but now she claims that neither of them know a thing. As things come to a head particularly with Sheridan, he realizes that he has to make a choice- back away or beat his fears.

This story really has it all- murder mystery, a bit of danger, flawed characters needing time to grow, scorching hot romance, and a sense of family. The story has some of the heavy themes carrying over from the first book, but it also has a lot of humorous moments too.
Sheridan has never had a good friend and she definitely never saw herself going ape over wedding stuff so it was funny when she let go and embarrassed herself going girly over it all with James.
"I think I can see it too," he said with a thread of amusement. He never would've figured Sheridan O'Neil for someone who got all flustered over wedding duds.
Her eyes shot to his and she shrugged. "Got carried away. All that lace and satin messes with your rational mind. Just FYI."
He grinned. Damn was she adorable.
"I'll try to remember that."
p. 123-124 Sheridan and James, Broken

James was so buttoned up tight until Sheridan came along and he fought his feelings and attraction, but when he gets protective over her and wants to pamper her after she was hurt, he was adorable and Cole caught him at it.
"Where am I going?"
"Up to the house, in town, to one of the cottages," James dropped the bags by the front door, then turned to look at the tatted up fighter, who was wearing ripped jeans and a white tank top. "Anywhere, but here."
"And why's that?" Cole's gaze lifted and maybe for the first time since he walked through the front door a few minutes ago, he really looked around the place. "Wait a sec." He inhaled deeply. "It smells good in here. Did you clean up? Is that a new rug on the floor?" His eyes bugged out. "Are those flowers on the table?"
"Well your eyes and nose seem to be working just fine," James remarked dryly...
Cole stared at him, confused. Maybe even a little wary.
"What?" James demanded.
"Man card's been revoked, brother. Hand it over."
pp. 189-190 James and Cole, Broken

But there were also some serious moments. James and Sheridan both had commitment issues due to their respective pasts, but Sheridan was like a breath of fresh air. She might have serious fears about getting involved with people, but she was honest and up front about it. She didn't play games and she didn't let James play games either. When he wouldn't let her past his emotional wall, she was hurt deeply, but she said her piece and backed away. Oh man, it is so hard to find a heroine with that sort of maturity and strength.

Besides, the characters and romance, I felt the scenes with James and his horses and James with his brothers along with the separate scenes of Mac and Sheridan were good stuff. There is so much going on in this story that was so engaging and enjoyable and the back drop of ranch life, cowboys, small town was just even more delectable. I was okay with the first book, but didn't connect with it like I did this time around with the sequel.

In the end, this was such a strong segment of the series and I can't wait to see where the reveals to the Cass mystery lead and what happens in Cole's story with the cagey Grace. Contemporary Romance fans who enjoy spicy romance and a strong suspense element should give this series a try.

My thanks to Penguin Group for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Broken
4 Stars

After the losses of both his younger sister and his fianceé in quick succession, James Cavanaugh has sworn to never love again. But his attraction to quietly confident Sheridan O'Neil challenges him to face his demons and risk his heart one more time.

James and Sheridan are both engaging characters and their romance progresses naturally at a smooth and steady pace. Nevertheless, their chemistry is not as tangible as that of Mac and Deacon. Moreover, James's constant self-deprecation and stubborn unwillingness to accept that he is in love with Sheridan gets old after a while.

The real appeal of this and the previous book is the investigation into the murder of Cass Cavanaugh. There are some intriguing developments in this regard, and it will be interesting to see where the author takes this in the third installment, which focuses on Cass's twin, Cole, and the former Sheriff's daughter, Grace.

Overall, this series has tremendous potential as a suspense novel, but the romances so far have only been so-so.

Quick & Dirty: While not much happens in terms of the overarching mystery, this is still a fun follow up to book one, full of engaging characters and a wonderful romance.

Opening Sentence: I saw Sweet again today.

The Review:

Ever since her father left her mother, Sheridan has sworn that she will never let a man be in a position to do that to her. That means no serious relationships, and definitely no marriage. Ever since arriving at the Triple C Ranch and meeting her boss’ brother, her resolve has been faltering. James Cavanaugh is the type of man who would make any woman stop in her tracks. The fact that he seems to also be attracted to her doesn’t help matters any. Sheridan really doesn’t want to cross the line between a professional relationship and a personal one, but James is making it really hard to stay strong.

James has his own reasons for not wanting a serious relationship. His sister’s murder still hangs over his head, and other events in his life have led him to believe every woman who cares for him gets hurt. So, it’s really in Sheridan’s best interest that they not become involved. James just can’t stay away from her though, and they both find themselves falling more and more under the other’s spell. Will these two people be able to put aside their pasts in order to make a future together?

I was surprised with how much I enjoyed the first book in this series, so I was very much looking forward to continuing the series with this book. My expectations were met with a fast paced and sweet romance, full of great characters. I will say though that, in terms of the overarching mystery over Cass’ murder, not much happens. We get some more clues, but it doesn’t really feel like the plot moves forward much, if at all. It’s too Laura Wright’s credit that I can say this and still give the book 4 stars because she just has a way of writing that draws me in, and her characters seem very genuine.

One issue I did have concerned James. It almost felt sometimes as if there were a wall between him and the reader. We find out about his baggage, but it was never given in enough detail for me to truly understand why he was so standoffish about having a serious relationship. It made it a little harder for me to connect to him, whereas I connected to Sheridan very easily.

We get to see a lot of Mac (the heroine from book one), which I enjoyed. I love it when the main characters from previous books make appearances later on in a series and getting to see Mac attempting to plan a wedding was a lot of fun.

All in all, while it didn’t seem like much happened, this was still a fun, fast follow up to book one. I believe fans of the first book will greatly enjoy this one as well. I’m looking forward to book three!

Notable Scene:

“I work for your brother.”

“Right.”

“And I love my job.”

“Well, that’s a good thing.”

She gave him a look of extreme impatience.

“Come on, I know you understand what I’m saying.”

“You can’t think Deacon would fire you if we…hung out together. If we were…” He paused, cleared his throat. “Friends.”

“Having a hard time getting that word out?” she observed, the lightness and humor back in her gaze.

“Not at all.” He dropped his chin and lifted his brows. “Friend.”

Her gaze shifted to the coming sunset. “Look, I don’t believe Mr. Cavanaugh would take issue with us being friends, if that’s truly what it was. But, come on -“

James didn’t let her finish. He stuck his hand out. “Then it’s settled. Friends.”

She stared at his hand.

“I ain’t gonna bite, Sheridan,” he said. He’d meant it as a joke, but when her eyes lifted to meet his, he saw a struggle there.

“You wanna stop hanging out with me?” he asked gently.

“No, but -“

He shrugged. “We both know where we stand. Both know neither one of us is staying here permanent. No expectations. Just fun.”

“Just fun?” she asked. “Words are easy like the wind,” she said.

Heat slashed through him. Quoting Shakespeare from those lips…”What can I say, Miss O’Neil? ‘I do desire we be better strangers.'”

Her eyes brightened and for a moment he though she might return his quote with another. Maybe something about rejection of the heart. But instead, she started to laugh.

“All right, Mr. Cavanaugh.” She slipped her hand in his and pumped it a couple of times.

“Friends it is.”

Originally reviewed for Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and Fantasy.

There are just some books that make a girl want to sigh.. and Laura Wright's, Broken is right there at the top of the list. Broken is the second book in her Cavanaugh Brothers Series and it's just as wonderful as Branded (book 1).

When I discovered Branded I was pleasantly surprised, I found gold amongst the glitter but Broken proves it wasn't just a one shot wonder. I know Ms. Wright has written several books and has a huge following but Branded was my first. It's so wonderful to see that Branded follows through.

The Cavanaughs had been a pretty great family, three brothers and one sister. Doing all the normal family stuff but one act of tragedy changed everything. Their beloved baby sister was murdered and the mother went whack job and the father went silent and the boys? Well they were left broken and alone. Once they were able they left town and nothing was ever going to bring them home again. That is until their father died. Set upon destroying what was left of his legacy they are each surprised to discover that home still calls to them. Finding ways to at least touch base on a regular basis. But at the reading of their father's will even more insanity ensues. Seems they have yet another brother and the ranch is to be divided between the four of them. Great (she says sarcastically). Then they discover new information about their sisters death.. seems there was a lot that wasn't investigated. Now they once again have a focus, a plan and a reason to stay..

Sheridan O'Neil doesn't do relationships and she certainly doesn't do relationships with her boss' family. She is a strong, independent woman who doesn't need a man to live a good life. *snort* really? Or so she thinks. But when James Cavanaugh makes an appearance in her life all her plans are shot. Seriously what's not to love about a gorgeous man who is known as the "Horse Whisperer"? Shoot the first time she ever met him, he rode to the rescue. Now all she needs to do is reconcile a relationship and accept that yep, it's with the Boss' brother.

James Cavanaugh tried to live a normal life after escaping River Black Texas. He went to college and had a dream. Even had a fiancé and a chance of a life until she too was attacked. Seems to James that any woman who cares for him gets hurt, his sister, his mother and his fiancé. The last thing he ever thinks he will deserve is another chance with a woman. Until sexy, sweet Sheridan comes into his life. Next thing he knows he is falling for her.

This love story is beautifully interwoven with the over all arc of trying to figure out who killed their baby sister. Sheridan and James go searching for clues in some rather interesting places and when doing her job gets Sheridan in trouble the entire family is shocked to discover that there are others who might know what happened.

Add to it the joy and confusion of planning big brother's wedding (Deacon from Branded). It is life in all it's glories. Joy, fear, anger, lust and most especially love. I don't think Ms. Wright can write these books fast enough to make me happy.

Posted on What I'm Reading

First off, I'm loving the The Cavanaugh Brothers books. So far, the ultimate story line is getting better. This is a series you are not going to want to start in the middle or anywhere else, but the beginning. Here's why: The main story line is the brothers trying to figure out who killed their little sister. With each book more is reveal. So, I'm advising not to start anywhere but with the first book Branded.

Okay, now that I got that out of the way I can go into my thoughts of Broken. I'm seriously loving this series. Yes, I love that they are getting a little closer to whodunit in Cass's murder. I mean a little. I honestly believe Laura is going to drag that secret till the very end of the series, but you know what I'm okay with that. I like that we can't guess it right away, it gives that little suspense.

Anyway, since this is romance it has to have little romance. So, in Broken we focus on James Cavanaugh and Sheridan O'Neil. I love that both of are broken. Perfect title. Moving on. So, we have James who is guilt ridden cause of his sister's death, but there is more to this tortured soul. After what happen in his youth, he basically made it his mission to protect any woman he loved. However, things happen and he realize he couldn't do that, so instead of finding someone to love the best thing to do is to avoid it all together. Which was working just find till he met Sheridan. You would remember Sheridan as Deacon's right-hand person. However, in Broken we get to know her a little better. For one thing she doesn't do any type of relationship. What! I know. Basically, Sheridan has lived her life protecting herself from getting her feelings hurt, because all relationship does is cause pain. Which is sad, because you aren't living.

What I love about this story is that you have James and Sheridan who are basically broken and the only way to repair that is to open up there are hearts to one another. However, fear is what keeps these two avoid their feelings for half the book. However, something happens which brings these two together and makes them realize they need to be honest with one another. Sheridan was able to open up sooner than James. James almost ruins the relationship before it even has a real chance, because of the past.

I'm not kidding when I say The Cavanaugh Brothers is a fantastic series. The love whole idea of these brothers who come together to find out the secret that lies beneath of their sisters death, and the other secrets that are revealed along the way. Like the secret brother. Anyway, Broken is fantastic with it's continuation of what's going on. Yes, we are one step closer and we get a little romance. Plus, two people repairing one another from their past. So, if you are looking for a cowboy, mystery, and a little heat (yes, there is a few steamy scenes), you will want to try The Cavanaugh Brothers books. As I stated before, I would strongly advise not starting with book two.

Broken by Laura Wright is the 2nd book in her The Cavanaugh Brothers series. The first book in this series, Branded was a wonderful story, with a bit of mystery and a fabulous couple. I didn’t think Laura Wright could match Deacon and Mac, but I am happy to say I didn’t need to worry. Broken is just as good, with another fabulous couple.

James Cavanaugh is our hero, and the second brother, who is another hottie. James is a horse whisperer, and at the end of the first book, he decided to stay longer to help find a place for the wild mustangs. Sheridan O’Neil is our heroine, and I loved her from the get go. Sheridan (don’t call her Sheri), is Deac’s assistant, and a very good one. She is a smart, tough, savvy business woman, and loves her job. At the end of the first book, she met James and immediately they both felt the attraction. Well in Broken, the attraction between them is burning up, and they both have difficulties trying to ignore the heat. James doesn’t want to get involved, as he has his own demons, where he blames himself for various things that have happened over the years to the women he has cared for. One of course, was his sister Cass, whom we learned in the first book, was killed 20 years ago, with the case still unsolved.

Sheridan besides her normal job, is helping Mac with her wedding plans. I enjoyed seeing Sheridan and Mac becomes fast friends. What I loved about Laura Wright’s writing of this series is how she handles this wonderful romance. Through more than half the book, we see and feel the explosive chemistry between James and Sheridan. Wright lights the fire, and lets it slowly build, reaching a point that we were so ready for them to succumb to the lust between them. The steamy sex between them was so wonderfully done, and my kindle had to be cooled off often. This was a fantastic sexy romance, between a couple meant for each other, even with the demons holding one of them back. I loved loved James and Sheridan together.

What I also loved about this romance was the build-up of this romance, that was hot from the beginning, but Laura Wright allowed us to feel the heat, and suffer the wait too. Lol So much fun, and so worth the wait. I am not a big fan of instant romance and sex on page 2 of a book. Broken is how it should be done. Bravo to Laura Wright for a fabulous story, and series that has every thing you would want; Super romance with a sexy couple; hot steamy sex, mystery, family atmosphere in a ranch town, great secondary characters. Well done.

This series has me hooked. I cannot wait to find out what really happened to Cass!!! These are not stand alone books. They literally take place just days after the previous one and there is a huge story Arc started in the first book that is on going through the series. Each of the Cavanaugh brother’s gets a HEA with their woman at the end of their book but we are still left hanging about the dead sister and what really happened to her. Through the books we are given pages from her diary that gives us little clues about what might have happened to the 14 year old girl that was crushing on an older guy that she knew only as Sweet. The author has done a great job with the mystery and hooks you from the start and its torture just getting tiny clues here and there.

Now for the romance part.. In this one the brother James Cavanaugh is the main hero who is known as the horse whisperer. All of the brothers feel a sense of guilt over their sister dying but James is carrying more from losing other women in his life also. He has a strong sense to protect women but yet wont let himself ever get close to another one again for fear he wont be able to save them. So when he realizes he has feelings for his brother Deacon’s admin he really struggles. Sheridan came off as very aloof in the first book. We finally get to see why she projects herself that way and that deep down she had just as many fears of letting anyone in as James did. I give 2 thumbs up to the author for allowing the woman this time be the one that pull the stick out of her butt first and stands up to James to do the same.

The set up for the final book looks epic and I cannot wait for both Cole and Grace’s story AND to FINALLY get resolution on Cass.

I really enjoyed this one.

I think I enjoyed it more than the first one, as James didn't have a personality switch immediately upon deciding he wanted Sheridan. And his reasons for being the way he was? Totally legit, slightly irrational when it came down to it, but I don't know anyone who in the same situation wouldn't feel the same way.

It didn't really feel like insta love to me, which was nice.

Sheridan wasn't TSTL once again. Which was really nice.

The next book... hmmm Cole is a bit of an ass. Okay, a big ass. He's got a chip on his shoulder a mile wide. I know why, I understand why... but I think I might get a little frustrated with him in the next book. I guess we shall find out.

Also... I have some suspicions as to who the killer might be. Guess we shall find out.

Once again, the narrator did an amazing job. Though I think his voice makes the boys sound a bit older than they are meant to be... but again... Texas accents by non Texans can run that way.

Broken is the second book in the Cavanaugh Brother's Series. James Cavanaugh, known as the Horse Whisperer and Sheridan O'Neil, Deacon Cavanaughs personal assistant.

I'm loving this new series by Laura Wright. It's fresh has enough drama to keep you reading and romance. But the romance isn't in your face romance and it takes time for the two of them to get together, but when they do? WOW.

The title seems fitting as they are both broken in some way. James is dealing with being back on the family ranch and the murder of his sister Cass and Sheridan is dealing with keeping personal relationships at bay all because her father left when she was little and her mother reinforced her anger into her, but as Sheridan once said.. Love Is a Risk.

The mystery behind Cass's abduction and murder is an interesting one and I really hope we learn more as to who this mysterious "Sweet" person was,Through glimpses from her missing diary. Who kidnapped and murdered her. Let the Cavanaugh brothers finally put their sister to rest and let the family heal.

I can't wait to read about Cole.

I was given a copy of this story so that I can give my honest review.

I love this series so much and can't say enough great things about it. Not only has Laura Wright delivered a sexy cowboy romance, but the series also contains the chilling murder mystery of the sister of the Cavanaugh brothers. We get more insights into the murder in this second installment in the series and I can't wait for the next book to reveal more. I fell in love with James, the sexy horse whisperer and romantic poet, while reading his story and experiencing his loss and pain. James and Sheridan romance was slow to heat up, but burned up the pages when they did get together. Broken is a story of loss, intrigue, healing and love. I loved every minute of it! I highly recommend this sizzling cowboy romance and can't wait for Cole's book, Brash, to release in March 2015. I'll be devouring it as soon as I can get my hands on it!

This series just keeps getting better and better.. I love these Cavanaugh brothers and I liked James a lot better than I did Deacon.

James has been hurt several times in his past, but he has placed the blame of all of his loses on his shoulders and blames himself for losing everyone that he gets close to. So to avoid everything and tackle his demons, he throws himself into his works and his love for horses.

Sheridan loves her job and plans on returning home as soon as Deacon and Mac’s wedding is over. What she doesn’t expect is the way that she feels when she is around James. Since she has been rejected in the past she has sworn off men, even hot horse whispers, and throws herself into work. She knows that if James can’t talk to her and tell her what is going on with him that, her heart is in serious trouble, and she knows that it will end up broken in the end if she doesn’t walk away and return home.

I love how they finally face their feelings for each other.

OUT STAND ING !!! FIVE +++ Stars!!
I have to say, I am RUNNING to read the first book in this series, Branded, simply because the puzzle of the death of their sister Cass begins then and the mystery of her death overlaps into all the books. Clearly, we won't truly know what happened to Cass until we finish with the nest story. Not having read Branded did not really take anything away from this book as a whole.
This is my first experience with Laura Wright and I can already tell you that she clearly knows how to write a hot romance. There is sexual tension, sweet tenderness, and lots of good banter! I loved everything about this story and all it's characters and cannot wait to continue!

Nope. I even skipped ahead after the lack luster beginning to see if it got better. It didn't. Not a fan of the writing style and super not a fan of the way the main characters interact.
This is my second attempt at this book. Guess it's just not a good fit for me.

This book had a pretty slow start, but after the first 100 pages it picks up and is a decent read. I can't wait to read Cole's story though!!
