When humans and the Mer cohabited in peace a millennia ago the races were perfectly balanced. As time passed, the differences in their physicality causing a chasm they couldn't breach and the Mer removed themselves into the sea and allowed humans to rule the land.
When the maidens of the Mer grow scarce, an elite warrior force is put into place to scout for the rare females who still retain the blood of the Mer. These unique females can replenish a female population that has grown dangerously low.
Can the Mer Warriors fight to save their race from extinction while navigating a culture that no longer holds to the Old Ways? Do the rare, mixed-Mer human females desire to mate with the Mer males? Or will the clash of beliefs and freedoms prove too much to overcome....

I know this book came out 8 years ago, but I cannot for the life of me understand the multiple five star reviews. I’m not one to grammar police, but there were so many rampant mistakes and misspellings throughout this whole thing, did anyone proofread this? Typically, I don’t like to knock a book, and a love my cliche romances but this was a hot mess from start to finish. Honestly, so, so bad - I only finished it because it was pretty short and I was waiting for it to redeem itself. It never did.
Also, for such a short read there’s a couple of rape scenes and a lot of attempted rape and that’s just not something I want to read about in my romance. Sexual assault happens and I would never like to act like it doesn’t, but if it’s going to be included I’d rather it be a critical discussion on society, and not just something to throw in to make the plot seem “edge-y or “dangerous”.
Oh my god. Oh. My. God. It's a good thing I was home alone when I read this because I squealing with excitement. And laughing out loud at Con's insults. This debut of the Siren Breeders was everything I expected it to be a whole helluva lot more!
Even without the actual breeding aspect going on, with the exception of a really hot tongue lashing, it was still really good so that answers a few questions. Namely do I like these books for the kinky scenes, or do I only like these books because interesting characters happen to have sex? Interesting characters win because they clearly stand on their own in this one.
Con is the mutt of all mutts, and I have a feeling he's going to hell soon. Brandon, poor kid (or sort of kid) brings back the awkward lightheartedness of teen angst. Ember and Ruby are the first Maiden's we meet and I was completely enthralled with both of them. Borlach, sexy demon done right!! Hands down one of the most interesting I've read about recently. He's up there with Larissa Ione's Horsemen.
On the subject of Borlach, do you (cough -Marata- cough) remember when I said that certain things were starting to be cliche? I TAKE IT BACK! I'm soooooooo excited to see what you do in the future that I'm already falling in love with them all over again.
Ms. Eros had me at the first word— “Constantine...”
This book is an introduction to a new series about new species, new alliances and new beginnings. The absolute best thing about this book, for me, is confirmation regarding a “beloved bad boy’s” condition and situation from another series.
The book description provides a more than adequate synopsis of what one should expect while reading this novel, so I will only provide my humble thoughts and opinions...
EMBER introduces the reader to a species/race of beings that are attempting to reproduce to ensure their survival. We meet the Mer/Sirens, demons, vampires and angels (or any combination of the four species) in this first installment. Aided by a vampire of mixed race (s), the Mer/Sirens initiate their quest to find suitable women, with a percentage of Mer blood flowing through their veins, to save their people.
Anyone who has previously read Ms. Eros’ books knows how vividly descriptive and detailed her words are and how those words ‘paint’ scenes without overpowering the story’s rhythm and pacing—this book carries on that extraordinary practice! I absolutely LOVE her writing.
The plot of the story was clear and easy to follow and any events crucial to the story were present and kept the momentum moving forward. As with most of Ms. Eros’ tales, the reader enters the story ‘in medias res’ and the pace does not end until the reader literally reaches the end of the book.
The battle scenes and erotic scenes in this story were just as titillating as the subtle sexual tension between the characters. ***If you ‘get’ the correlation—well done, Grasshopper! =:-) If not- hint: sex and violence...yada...yada...yada... =:-)***
The point of view switches frequently between characters during the course of the story, yet the view is consistent with the narration. There is no doubt who is speaking, as the author, quite effectively, uses subtitles to ensure the reader is and stays engaged in the story.
The characters we meet along the way are intriguing, realistic and dynamic. They literally are essential to the plot in some form or other, which ensures the characters are memorable to readers.
***One character in this story is the quintessential ‘bad guy.’ He’s self-serving, misogynistic, certifiably insane, and abusive (to everyone), and yet, the reader cares about him—a lot. Again, it’s the descriptive gift of writing... =:-)
EMBER is a phenomenal beginning to a new series. The writing is exceptional and the story itself is extremely imaginative. I can’t wait to see where CONSTANTINE will take us...
What an amazing start to what promises to be another awesome series by Ms.Eros. Ember is gripping and takes us into the intriguing world of the Mer with a little taste of the dark world of the Demons! We meet Ember, the maiden Princess of the Mer; Ruby, an exotic dancer on the run; Brandon, a vampire Druid, the son of the beloved Druid breeder & full blooded vampire Druid- Aubree & Beau; Brolach, a very sexy demon; and we find out what has become of Constantine; a hated & beloved character of the Druid Breeder series; and follow him as he discovers another facet of his mixed blood. From start to finish Ember keeps you engrossed in all the goings on. I love a story that leaves you wondering about little things, then "BAM", at the end it all comes together and you think to yourself " Ah, now that explains everything!". Ember delivers baby! The action packed fight scenes, hot & scorching sex scenes and the amazing chemistry between characters are just a few of the reasons you need to read this book, and all of Ms. Eros' writing. I can't wait to see what happens in book#2 CONSTANTINE. If you haven't sampled other works by the author, I strongly recommend you do, you won't be disappointed with these dark erotic tales that have EPIC story lines!
In the original Druid Breeders series you are left with Con’s demise in the hands of the Mer. The author hit rewinding and we are back Con and the Mer. Ember begins with a test of Cons loyalty to the Mer Prince and Princess. Since Con is a mixed breed his heritage made for an excellent warrior but his mixed blood warred with each other to gain dominance over his actions which maid Con unpredictable. The Mer are in search of their maidens so that they can protect and breed with them to strengthen their numbers in their clan. They elicit the help of a mix breed, Con to gain tactical advantage of a waging war. While in search of the maidens they also encounter another mixed breed Brandon. What they did not expect was the uncertainty of Cons mixed heritage that threaten his alliance to them and the safety of their Princess Ember, and the threat posed by new enemy breeders that step onto the scene who are ready to battle for the breeders they feel are their own since their one and only goal is to breed.
My Rant:
Loved it. Ms. Marata starts the story off with kick butt action with amazing battle scenes. Con is flexing his muscles showing the Mer what he is capable of and my heart starts palpitating with anticipation. If you don’t know by now Con is one my favorite character because he is so ruthless. Con only care’s about Con but he has a tender part to him that wants to protect, that he constantly fights to deny which is why I love him so. It was so refreshing to see some of the Druid Breeders characters make an appearance in Ember. Beu and Aubrey’s son Brandon is summoned by the call of the Mer maiden princess and Brandon made the decisions to leave his parents so that he may go in search of the Mer. I had to dab my eyes because that part of the book made me drop a teardrop or two. I was so connected to Beu and Aubrey that a part of me did not want to see Brandon leave his parents. There was laugh out loud sarcasm that made me laugh so hard I almost choked on my own salvia. The characters really had a nark for words. Ms. Marata and her amazing imagination conjured up sexier mix breeds that are fiercer and all alpha male with attitude. These new characters made my mouth water with excitement. The demon/ angel breeder Brolach stole my heart away. The steamy scenes were hotter than ever and the anticipations of the action to come made this book a quick page-turner. I was able to finish the book in one sitting.
My Recommendation:
Overall I rated this book 5 out of 5 purple rant hearts. I would recommend this book to anyone that loved Dark Erotica with a breeding twist.
I really don't get how this book has so many 5 star ratings. Are y'all alright? This book was just traumatizing, really. The only reason I read it until the end is because, when I start reading a book, I have to finish it and because I had some hope that it would get better. It didn't. Women are treated like trash during the whole read, and there's is so much SA in it with SOOO much detail. And when I say much, I mean every two seconds, and when they aren't doing that stuff, they're talking about it or thinking it. Next to all this traumatizing stuff, I found the book also confusing. Many special terms are thrown at you, and I still don't know what some of them mean.
In short, the only reason the book still got 1 star is because, there was some story in it, even tho it wasn't always clear. Never reading this again.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
this book got a 4* like most of the others in this twisty series but for totally different reasons. To me this book felt a lot like a filler for things to come and an introduction. Whilst I enjoyed the action and naughty sex in the book I wanted more!! it was definitely on the tame side compared to previous books and I wanted more more more! Having said that I felt like I really got to know Constantine better, as well as Ember and am a million percent intrigued into the story of Brolach and Ruby!!!
Ember kept the heat going just like in the Druid Breeders series. Some of the characters from the Druid series get to continue forward in Ember. There are a few stories within the story and I can't wait to see how the all turn out. Just like in the Druid series I am now counting down the days until the next book is out.
The warnings of violence in a book speaking of vampires and demons are not nearly strong enough.. This portrays Rape, sexual assualt, threats of gang rape. Back of the book says 17 + that is laughable.. more like 18 plus.
I wish I could give this book negative stars. This makes me feel bad for every other book I have given a one star. I feel like kindle heard that I am buddy reading shitty free kindle books and decided to step up to the challenge and I do not appreciate it.
Constantine, a combination of Druid, Faction, and Exotic, made him something of an enigma. Never excepted by any of the divisions, he was abused because of his differences.
Ember a beautiful Mermaid who thought Constantine repulsive but finds herself becoming guarded by him. Being Faction, he doesn’t wish to be her guard, doesn’t want to be ruled by her. Yet, as he becomes more Mer than he’s realized he was, he finds himself drawn to her.
Ember’s beautiful Siren’s call has control and her blood, magick. And the Mer magick is being harvested from their seaweed beds. Together they search for those who would steal this magick, and finding themselves more alike than not, forge an alliance of sorts. When Madden arrives on the scene, with an forbidden love he’s harbored forever And when a battle ensues, what becomes of the Mer?
This is an exciting and erotic story of Mermaids, Druids, Demons and more. It’s the story of love and lust, a never ending battle for those females who can be bred, the need of each species to continue their race. And this author tells it in a way only she can.
I thought this would be an interesting book series. I'm a fan of MFM and try to keep an open mind on the subject of sex, you know, different strokes for different folks. This book series was a bit hard to take. Overall, the subjugation and degradation of women for the express purpose of breeding, including gang rape, rape, physical violence perpetrated on women, etc., makes it a bit hard to finish. Add to the violence that each book doesn't have an ending, makes you wonder what the heck is going on. If you have issues with violence toward women and like your books to end with some sense of finish, this book series will be very disappointing.
Also, the books are in dire need of editing. It's kind of annoying to read along and there are missing words, incorrect words, and inconsistent details.
Constantine's story is a good one. He is bold and very arrogant. The author does a great job creating a character you love to hate. She does well making him a very self absorbed man. I loved the Ember story too. She created a great story here with the Mer lineage. The other alpha male is Ember's brother Desmond and Madden. This is where the story takes a 180 spin and goes totally where I was not expecting it to go.
I am a fan of the author and I can't wait for more. This is not my genre, so it shows how much I love this author
wtf did I just read. Literally have no idea what is going on in this book. This had wayyyy to much going on. This was literally horrible yet I made myself finish. Like why?? Usually only do 1 stars for my DNFs but this wasn’t even worthy of 2 stars because i absolutely should have DNFed like right away. ALSO no trigger warning before having more than character SAed more than once is absolutely insane.
Felt off. Like heavy Ai. idk. Unfortunately, I think I bought a few of these books. They featured beautiful artwork (Mermaid couple on this one) so the covers lured me in. This however was not what I was hopping for from the cover.
WOW why did I wait so long to get back into this series!!!!
I LOVE Marata Eros her descriptive prose and humorous wit, amazing storyline and sexy and original characters are to be admired and bragged about.
Constantine is back!!!!
What I like about Constantine is the his intensity of his emotions and character. He doesn't know who or what he is exactly and he can only reactively follow his inbred instincts. I love finding out new blood species running in his veins. Con is the type of character you want to hate but cant help but feel for as well. He's so cocky and arrogant which only gets him into trouble.
I loved Ember how she bites back and how they all underestimate her. I look forward to seeing if Con gets his way with her, and finding out more of the origins of her birth.
Welcome to the series Brandon (Son of Aubree and Beau – from Druid Series) only two years old and already a fully grown male due to his Mer bloodline. He really is an interesting character and I hope he gets his story soon.
Ruby is also a new addition you just want to help her up and give her a big hug, What a crap hand she was dealt.
I definitely have to mention Brolach Oh My Freaking Gawd!!!!! He is Freaking Hot Literally!!!! I am going to need me some more of Brolach, I cannot wait for his story. I am seriously crushing on Brolach big time. All that Bad boy with good boy running in his veins seriously HOT!!!! OMG!!!!
I loved all the different species Mer, Demon, Druid, Faction, Vampire, Reaper, Exotic, I cant wait for what comes next.
I love how Marata brings you into her world and makes the story believable, these characters are real this is all happening under our noses. I love how refreshing it is not to know what is going to happen next so unpredictable, Marata really keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat.
All up and incredibly epic addition to the Marata Eros world and a larger than life instalment to the Siren Series I cannot wait to see what happens next.
A run along Novel to The Druid Series, this first novel in the series is a great catch of your interest. Not all first novels are able to weave a magic spell around you, really pulling you into the deepest parts of the plot, the characters and allowing all of the scenery come to life around you. The sex scenes are less "violating" than those in The Druid series which is a welcomed relief which allowed me to relax more and take more of the story in. The only negative I can say is that by the end of the book it becomes quite crowded with the different types of creatures. Sticking to a couple would have been a better idea rather than several at one time in my opinion would have been a better idea. I can see what the Author was trying to accomplish and the overall idea is a strong one all it needed was for one of the several character species to have not been involved.
This book showed so much promise, but .... the punctuation was so, so, so bad that it was extremely distracting. I was unable to concentrate fully on the story due to this distraction, and it took away from the enjoyment. Perhaps a good editor and more attention by the author would help to rectify this major problem for future books.
I really did see great promise in the story-line and found it exciting and would love to read more in this series should this problem be rectified in future issues.
I really wanted to give this book four stars. I love the story but it just jumps all around, from one person to the next without making it clear who it is that is doing the narrating/speaking. at one point in the end one of the mer is helping in a battle and he wasn't even suppose to be there. at least I don't remember him being with the group that ran. last I remember he was with the other mer that were knocked out by ember's song. this is a prime example of how this story runs. I had to constantly go back and figure out what was going on.
This book is a branch off from the main series. I advise reading the previous books before reading this one.
Ember continues w/ Constantine's story while exploring the Mers' culture & story. We first learn about the Mer in the wrap up of the main series (Thresher).
Each new book connects solidly to prior books in the series. The action is always suspenseful & this one sets up well for Exotic.
It was okay with too many references to previous books. This is supposed to be book 1 yet it is obviously a continuation of her previous breeders stories. In addition, there are too many characters having their storyline...all in a mere 9 chapters. I HATE short stories that don't really tell a tale and leave you hanging. I recommend you wait until you can get all of it together...the story is too disjointed to merit a serial read.
This book had so much promise but the over-load of characters had me flipping back so many times trying to figure out who was who that it quickly became annoying. Guess I shouldn't have picked this book as a first read by this Author but since it is supposed to be book 1 of a series I thought it would be ok. Nope, reading this felt like I was thrown in at the middle of a story instead of starting at the beginning and just left me feeling very confused.
Although I believe the book had an interesting storyline as part of a series, it was more violent than I was comfortable with. The characters are well defined and have strong personalities. I felt the book was more choppy than flowing. I would recommend it to those who are comfortable with the violence and enjoy the Paranormal genre. An adult book.
This book is very unique and mixes many paranormal characters and Irish type characters together. It is a very graphic book; therefore, not intended for children under the age of 18. The plot is hard to follow and/or grasp in places and the characters were not fully developed. Maybe the next book in the series will offer more clarity.
Constantine "Con" considered useless because he's so much more than a hybrid. When Con passes Desmond's test becoming Ember's bodyguard. He hopes that he doesn't get bored with this assignment. Ember is Maiden of Mer untouched with powers that can't be denied. Ember is the only one that can sense Maiden's. Will Ember find any more Maiden's? Can Con deny his desires? Find out in Ember.
I would have been happier with more background on the various groups involved in the novella...I had trouble keeping it straight in the beginning. But MA's never failed to bring the heat, and this is no exception...
This series has potential, however, the writing style was just too choppy for me. There was very little back story so I felt like fell into the middle of the book right from the very first page. Made for a frustrating read...
Ummm...what just happened?! This was too paranormal-freaky for me to grasp. Didn't like any of the characters...don't really know what the hell this story was suppose to be about either! Vampires, Druids and demons...oh my---NOT!!! Monsters more like it. Definitely monstrous behavior.
