If Titanic was the Ship of Dreams, Lusitania is the Stuff of Nightmares.
Carrie Boxhall is happy to help her mistress, Meg Ashton, when she needs someone to return to Britain on her behalf. Even Meg's tumultuous crossing on Titanic and a warning from Ruth, the little girl who seems to know things she couldn't possibly know, doesn't deter it. Meeting a handsome stranger aboard the ship is an added bonus. By the time the coast is in sight, Carrie is looking forward to a bright future full of love. But then her entire world is rocked when the ship is hit by a torpedo. Eighteen minutes--that's all they have to escape the floundering ship. Will Carrie and her new friends make it out alive? Or will she find herself tossed into the frigid sea? Lusitania is the fourth book in the Ghosts of Southampton series.
Good Read but hard to look past glaring inaccuracies
I loved the story! More Johnathan time, heck yeah! I can't fully voice how much I adore Johnathan. I loved having a book on Carrie, I always liked her from book 3.
My biggest complaint is the glaring inaccuracies about the water temp. In 50 some degree temps people can survive for 1+ hours... (I know usually longer but I'm awful at remembering numbers) Seemed like the author basically just took the sinking/survivability info from Titanic and applied it to a completely different tragedy. It also took hours for help to arrive. There were ship/event inaccuracies in prior books regarding Titanic but not nearly as mind boggling to me as this one.
I hope a Britannic book is made, but really hope it's researched well this time.
I did like that this book got me to brush up on Lusitania... Usually I don't read much on Cunard liners due to my preference of WSL liners.
I really enjoyed Carrie's story, taking place in a true historical setting. However once again, there were errors and mistakes that should have been caught during proof reading, by an editor or ARC group.
