He was a conqueror. If it needed to be conquered, then Yetti Davis was the man to do it. That was all good and well until he came up against an unconquerable soul. There’s no handbook on how to make someone love you because if there was, he’d follow it to the letter for Mauri Singer’s love.
Mauri Singer is very much a conquerable soul; however, she will not be conquered in anyone else’s time except her own. Fast words, vain actions, nor good coitus can shift the unmoving. Only real love can do that, and she will wait until it comes for her.
Will Yetti and Mauri get on the same page to conquer each other, or will they remain passing ships in the night occasionally stopping for a pitstop in each other’s vessel? Only time will tell when they both will ever truly be ready.

When I’m aimlessly perusing Goodreads, I often come across reviews where some readers will DNF a book or give it one star simply because they didn’t like the main characters. Not the actual book; just the main characters. I can’t stand those kind of readers but, after reading We Ready, I get it. Matter of fact, I almost became one of those readers. The way I was this close to giving this book one star! I 100%, unequivocally, did NOT like Mauri and Yetti. Had they been a toxic couple, I probably would’ve fallen head over heels for both of them. But, the level of immaturity displayed by these characters just irked my soul. The constant back and forth and tit for tat grew tiresome very quickly. When the book starts, Mauri and Yetti are already three years deep into their situationship. They breakup to makeup then, breakup again. That’s their thing but, Yetti actually wants more. He wants to be in a relationship with Mauri but, she just flat out refuses. She thrives on the drama between them. What really annoyed me about Mauri was her reason for not wanting to be in a relationship with Yetti. What’s the reason you ask? There isn’t one! There was no past heartbreak she was still healing from. There was no trauma that was preventing her from committing to a long term relationship. Mauri strung Yetti along for three years for no other reason other than she could. And, for that, that heffa earned herself a permanent spot on my shyt list. She had my boy out here look like a straight up simp in these literary streets. Harpo, who dis man because, this is not the Yetti we met in Ready for War. But, Yetti finally woke and realized Mauri was never going to give him the commitment he wanted. So, he cut her azz off and moved on which, was a good thing. But, then, he immediately started dating Bria's hateful insecure azz. Sigh……. Yetti just went from bad to worse. This chic was a walking warning sign. The way he chose to ignore the red flags Bria was practically slappin’ him in the face with just pissed me off. Insert drama here because, Bria definitely brought it. When I tell y’all Mauri and Yetti tap danced on my last damn nerve, Mauri and Yetti tap danced on my last damn nerve. I was frustrated with this couple damn near the entire book and, when they finally got their shyt together, I could barely muster up a single ounce of happiness for their HEA. Now, please don’t confuse my rant for anything other than what it is. A rant. I really did like We Ready but, the MFC and the MMC, not so much.
Lawd did this couple stress me out. Mauri and Yetti was beyond toxic and stressful to the point they came off as childish. Bria now that hoe was lucky. I don’t get how Yetti never checked his cameras until the damage was done. Bria deserved to be put in a body bag. I’m glad Mauri and Yetti finally got it together.
4.5 🌟 This author has done it again! Oooh weeee...Mauri and Yetti were toxicity on steroids! The games they played were insane! I wasn't sure if they would get to their HEA but thank God for maturity! My laughed out loud scene involved Mauri's father Reece...I love him and his words of wisdom. Makes me miss my dad more. Well done!
Whew, this couple wore out my patience with their childishness. I wanted to scream and shout to stop the foolishness and just love one another. Even with all her behavior, I liked my girl Mauri. And Yetti was alright, most of the time. Overall, this story was about knowing your worth and standing on that principle. Never letting someone else shape your character and behavior like this couple did most of their rocky relationship. The family and friends dynamic in the story, I loved. The way the story ended with the couple in a full-blown relationship- was real life.
Seeing Yetti and Mauri’s relationship blossom was cute and annoying as hell. I wished they would’ve gotten it together much sooner but they needed that time to grow individually and together. This was a good, quick read.
Yetti and Mauri were two quite immature people who were both effing around with their HEA and almost found out. I wish we had got to see their journey to growth and maturity as opposed to just centering the pettiness with an epilogue. Because we never got to see them mature and evolve as characters, it felt like we were just told they got their acts together and to believe in their happy ending. I think there was a lot of story missing to get us to the point that the epilogue would have been as emotional as it was. We didn’t have the relationship with the characters for all the weeping and carrying on. I would also have like to see the impact of Mauri’s revenge. Overall, this was okay but it’s one of those novellas that feels abbreviated like the author got tired of the story of ran out of plot and just wanted to close it out midway through the telling.
Sometimes you have to go through hell in order to enjoy and appreciate heaven. A beautiful love story, through the cat and mouse games and ups and downs. I was like I just knew War's brother Yetti was going have it going on. Mauri and Yetti in a situationship and not stating what it truly was. That old saying you don't know what you have until you lose it. They both were petty and played games with one another. For a minute I lost my focus on the Cane Corso named Yetti because of his immaturity along with Mauri. I was like he working with all of that and he playing games...oh no. They both worked a nerve but glad that their love for each other won out.
WHEW.. I was holding my breath. I wasn’t sure how this one was going to turn out. I love a good happy ending ❤️ Yetti and Mauri had me STRESSED, the antics and immaturity over this situationship. I needed Bria and Yetti to be over as fast as they started. I loved Reese’s wise and solid fatherly advice. I also loved the friendship circle around Mauri; Galiana had me 😂.
4.5 ⭐️. Yetti and Mauri’s situationship is the definition of petty. I hate they had to go through so much to get to the finish line but I’m glad they got there. I enjoyed reading.
This book is something else. I will say that I didn’t like Mauri nor Yetti. Can we say immature and toxic? Yeah we can definitely say immature and toxic when it comes to these two because that’s all that was portrayed in this book. The back and forth and the tit for tat irritated me to no end. I see what the author was trying to do when it came to this book but ai don’t feel like it was executed correctly. It came off as predictable perpetuating a false narrative when it came to date a man with kids. The book definitely needed to be more developed and I would’ve preferred to see more of yetti and mauri on page dating and creating a healthier relationship. I honestly couldn’t done without the storyline from Bria just to see Mauri handle therapy and work on herself. Overall, it was a decent read. The potential was there but I felt the story as a whole needed more work
First of all Bria duck ahh need her ahhh beat 😒 ! Yetti need his duck ahh beat too for calling his self checking Mauri for her friend getting some straighten ! Men can be so dumb smh ! Mauri and Yetti both placed games and Mauri won a stupid prize! 🗣 SN: I’m not saying the beautiful baby is the stupid prize just the situation itself ! I honestly commend Mauri for keeping it tf moving with doing what she needed to do for her child despite the bs ! Yetti just completely wrong for not being apart of the pregnancy especially because he knows the possibility ! I would have rather been there and the child not be mine than Not be there and the child is mine 🗣 But Go off Yetti 😬 Now look at you looking 🗣STUPID YETTI smh you let Bria traumatize your child smh! Bria need a permanent dirt nap 🤬 You saw too many signs in the beginning and you overlooked them 😡 I was not happy with them ending up together 😭 I’m too petty lol

I’ve been ready for Yetti’s story since mid-way through “Ready for War” and at the end of that book, we get a glimpse at a possible budding relationship between Yetti and Mauri. Now in “We Ready”, the prologue opens with a very life changing event for the both of them but then jumps from the prologue to chapter one and three years have gone by. It is implied that the couple has played the cat and mouse game throughout the three year span and this continues throughout most of the book. Yetti has been and still is in love with Mauri. He wants a relationship with Mauri however, Mauri is spoiled and used to getting her way. It is her that initiates the games and Yetti being who he is, gives as good as he gets. They are both out there playing in each other’s face and Yetti is getting tired. When War makes his feelings known to his brother about the whole situationship, Yetti decides it’s time to move on. Insert Bria, Yetti’s new love interest. Everybody knows that there’s something not quite right with this chick including Yetti however, no one can tell just yet exactly what it is. As the book progresses and we look at Yetti and Bria’s relationship blossom or wither depending on how you look at it, Mauri is delivered a hard truth from her father. As Mauri is hit with another life changing event, she also realizes that her reputation is being scrutinized and questioned. She begins to work on herself via therapy and now understands that she may have lost the man that she loves. Yetti also gets a dose of truth as it is revealed that even though he loves Mauri, he hasn’t really taken the time to get to know her. Once the truth about Bria is revealed Yetti and Mauri realize that it’s time to take a step back and re-evaluate some things. I really enjoyed this book and it is my favorite of the two. However, one of my least favorite thing about the book are the time jumps at the beginning and end of the book. I feel like we missed out on the backstory of Yetti and Mauri’s relationship and as I mentioned in the beginning of the review, we’ve been told that the two were involved but not the extent of their involvement or how the relationship developed to get to the prologue in “We Ready”. At the end of “We Ready, there is a two year jump to the epilogue. Again we don’t get to see Mauri and Yetti as a couple. We are told that they dated and became a couple but we don’t get to read any of it. I would have preferred to get another 40 -50 pages just to see their interactions and growth within the relationship together as a happy couple.
Why is it over?😩 I have been waiting for Yetti and Mauri’s story since they first met, and it left me looking for crumbs! This book was so good. I get that it didn’t need to be a 300-page book, as we have been getting snippets of their relationship in previous books, but I’m greedy and wanted more. Mel Dau knew what she was doing when she let these characters talk because this book touched on so many emotions. Yetti has always been a favorite of mine. His reckless and “I can do what I want” demeanor makes for good reading 😆 Mauri was different than I imagined, but she was ok… these two were perfectly petty together! I have read some highly toxic books in the past, and these two definitely make the list because outside of removing somebody’s engine from their car 👀 Ready for War, Yetti was a whole fool, and Mauri entertained his antics by bossing up every chance she got Lawd they drained me trying to one-up each other 🤦🏾♀️ Mel Dau understood the assignment with this book. The characters we have grown to love are still just as marvelous. The side characters did what they needed to do, and we eventually got to a HEA! I’m unsure who could be next, but the connections between so many families leave a few possibilities, and I can’t wait!
Mauri and Bria got on my last nerves during the book. Mauri because she was very childish in a lot of ways. She had to grow and mature for sure because the way she handled Bria sure showed it because if it was me yeah naw she would have to get the cut. I know a couple of Bria’s and the sad part is they see no fault in their actions. Yetti and Reeces conversation at the card table spoke volumes because yes he loved her but did he know her. Yetti was crazy but if he didn’t have that talk with War and really take a look at how everything was going would he have taken that step back or would he have continued that cycle with Mauri? They both had to do a lot of healing Mauri for sure. I would have loved to read more from these two but I know it won’t be the end.
This is why I love Mel Dau’s books, she brings out the hate and love for a character and so much more. This is a quick read and you will want more for sure, I knew Yetti and Mauri were going to bring the pettyness 🤣.
First time reading this author. This is a story about Mauri and Yetti. Mauri and yetti are technically friends with benefits but he loves her and she loves him they just aren’t together: she gets pregnant and still chooses to live separately from him much to his disdain. They both play a lot of childish games for quite some time. I almost became uninterested but, thankfully I kept reading.
Bria… this bitch pissed me off so bad ! Who tf sets out to hurt CHILDREN for dick ????? Ikyfl ! She should’ve been put on a t shirt for the shit she did to that little girl but Mauri hit her pockets…. I personally would’ve done BOTH ! Weird ass bitch ! She was a jealous, weird, thieving ass, mortuary pussy ass broad ! She stressed me out the moment she entered.
Overall, this was a great book. I would absolutely read again.

Yetti and Mauri played entirely too much on my nerves! I wanted to slap both of them up! Now with that being said, I loved the book! Mauri is a tech genius and well connected within the crime families. She is also spoiled and emotionally immature. Yetti is also emotionally immature but stuck in his old ways. Both want to be with the other but were too wrapped up on having the upper hand they lost sight on what was really important.
Although their antics were a bit frustrating I was laughing and cracking up right along with them! Now Bria, I don't think I've felt an anger towards a fictional character so deep before. The scene in the office with the cameras was intense and emotional (IYKYK).
This book was a nice short read. The plot flowed well and the characters were well developed. Another great read by Mel Dau!
I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to see the growth of the character and I really didn’t expect for Mauri to be so childish. Everybody knows women can’t play the games men play cause we gonna lose every time 🤦🏾♀️. I enjoyed the catch up on Pea and War as well as the other couples. It wasn’t too aggravated with the back and forth between them because they had plenty of friends and family who was willing to check them. Bria was a mess and I’m lost on why sis wanted to be with Yetti and she don’t like kids must be the money 🤔 that she wasn’t even getting 🥴. Yetti made me a little annoyed cause why we ignoring red flags especially when it’s towards our kids 😒.
After those to dark series, I read this week 😳... Yetti & Mauri's storie was just the palette cleanse I needed!
I loved her dad, Reece. That man didn't play about his daughter and sure didn't play about his wife. ❤️
War & Yetti's bond/relationship! Mauri & her girl gang! I loved it all!
It is not often that the supporting characters play such a major yet subtle part and you love them all. Perhaps it's because the author was not trying to introduce multiple pov's.
These two had a lot of growing up to do, and their circle gave them the support and space to do it. Their HEA was a long time in the making. However, the journey, and growth is all in the details, right?
Yetti is War's younger brother. He doesnt believe in relationships because of beteayal that he experienexed in a previous relationship.
Mauri is a apoiled princess. The men in her life dont tell her no often. She is also a brilliant witj computers and has her own everything. So, for her she sobt really need a man.
She and Yetti meet and alas a situationship is born. When he wants it to be more, she doesnt take him serious. Even after becoming parents theu were still not in a relationship.
Two years of their games before Yetti finally stops playing. He gets into a relationship and Maurie just cant believe that he is serious. She relaizes it once he reveal doubts about what she shares with him.
I have enjoyed every book in your catalog…but I must say Mauri and her games gave me hives she said let the games begin but she loved her some him…now Yetti was her opposite with some game playing BDE and j no other with miserable without each other now Bria was in it to win it with Yetti with a hidden agenda…I loved how Reece sat Mauri down and told her what she needed to hear…..now that man circle was the truths Reece , War and all the OG’s put War on notice and made him open his eye to the truth….it’s awesome that support for mental and physical health is written throughout her catalog just awesome can’t go wrong reading her books job well done
Well, this was a roller-coaster. Mauri had some growing up to do. She was a little spoiled, and you would think she lived a sheltered life. A lot of their issues could have been handled with communication. I am a firm believer that words mean nothing but actions tell you everything. Yetti had to realize his actions were not matching his words. He loved the idea of Mauri, but was he actually in love, considering he didn't really know her. Lastly, anyone could see Bria was not right and that she had way more issues with the situation than she presented. In the end everything worked out.
Unbelievable!!!!!!!! If you have cameras, why not watch them?????
Yetti and Mauri have a ridiculous relationship. In addition, they left Kasilyn, their precious and young daughter alone with Bria, Yetti's bitter and jealous girlfriend.
Bria more than hurt that little girl and then forced Kasilyn to lie and cover Bria's crimes. Bria is lucky I couldn't put my hands through these pages, because she would have learned a new definition for pain. I really loved Mauri's ride or die posse, when they discovered what happened. Those ladies did not come to play! Poor little Kasilyn did not deserve that. Poor baby!
It was great that this wasn’t your traditional love story cause I needed a break from the usual.
Yetti fell for Mauri when he met her in his brother’s book but they warned him to stay away from her if he wasn’t going to commit to her.
Now we get to this book and they have a daughter but are not together but don’t want the other to be with anyone else. To say their love story was complicated is putting it mildly. But they were great coparents and when drama came what needed to be done to get through it.
This book is definitely a must read, just remember it’s not your typical romance book.
Mauri and Yetti were a little to immature for me. Too much tit for tat activity took place. Neither of them took the time to learn one another and it caused resentment and poor decisions. I’m glad both their friends and families held them accountable because they were exhausting. Bria was trash and there’s no other word for her. My only issue with the story is that I would have liked to read more about Mauri’s therapy, and see how their love progressed once they got it right. It felt like there was more to be said.
Yetti and Mauri were both toxic and petty af! I love a petty woman. When Yetti took the starter out and Mauri didn’t call or text she just got that shit handled I was living. That bitch Bria deserved to die from always running her mouth to what she did to that baby. Killing her would have been too easy. She deserved to suffer. I am glad the two of them got it together. I did not like how the double standards between the way men and women are viewed while dating was kind of upheld in the convo with her father, but I loved how he got Yetti all the way together.
I enjoyed this book from beginning to the end. I love the fact that Yetti knew exactly the woman he wanted. He just wasn't on the level to be mature enough to understand that he need more then sex. Maui knew that she was in love with Yetti but she still wanted to play childish games. I'm so happy that they realize that they loved each other and wanted to grow together. I love the fact Maui destroyed Bria without even putting her hands on Bria because she deserved all them problems she got in the end.
This is one of my favorite reads of the year!! Mel Dau wrote the hell out of this book! A love story about maturity, accountability, trust, and learning that true love is so much more than a feeling! Do yourself a favor and step into the love story of Yetti and Mauri. I can’t promise you won’t get mad, and maybe triggered. But I can promise you, you won’t put this book down! Not even while your at work!!
I don’t want to give too much away for those who will want to read this book. However I will say Yetti and Mauri spend a majority of this book not in a relationship. As a matter of fact, it could be argued that no part of this book is them in a relationship until the epilogue. In the final chapter before the epilogue, we see how they are going to begin, but we don’t get to o along for the ride. The epilogue jumps to two years later.
