Part 6: Interlude: Chapters 114 - 116 Book Five Content (Seven Seas Vol. 7-8): Chapters 117 - 143 Post-Canon Content: Chapters 144 - 150 Epilogue: Chapters 151 - 152
A re-telling of TGCF where Xie Lian has his cursed shackle placed in his eyes, blinding him. And yet, through all of his struggles; there is always someone watching over him.
- I was curious what the "intermission" would refer too-- maybe some cute side stories, filler episodes-- but it turns out that it's just Jun Wu's turn in the Kiln of Memories. I mean, I really don't care for Jun Wu and never once contemplated the depth of his actions and motivations. But I do think the backstory is done really well. Definitely has the vibe of a TGCF tragedy. - Yo wait, I just understood that XL is in fact a descendent of Jun Wu, so the prophecy saying that his own bloodlines will kill him. WHOOSH *mimes brain exploding* (Several chapters later) Now wait a damn minute... I forgot that Xie Bolin was actually Mei Nianqing's child, not Jun Wu's... So XL isn't a descendent of Jun Wu... Huh. - Me LOVES feral HC trying to get inside the Kiln. Honestly, I can't remember how he got in there in the nove. Interestingly enough, the author comments that after the "intermission" she begins covering Book 5, but that it differs so much, people who haven't read it won't be spoiled?? I'm scared. Also excited. We're really reading the story again for the first time :) - Villain Jun Wu is really different, and it feels super OOC. Like, he says generic villain stuff and acts a bit sassy and clichéd, and he completely lacks the dignity that Jun Wu typically holds, something that makes the original such a fascinating character to behold. - Xie Lian cries too much. Like yeah Jun Wu threatened him in a truly awful way, but really? Our boy ain't that weak. - YEEEEESSS JUSTICE FOR YIN YU AND QUAN YIZHEN. THEY'RE SO DAMN CUTE. - Have I mentioned that the "gege" is overused? Because the "gege" is overused. - Omggg Shi Wudu fighting with Zidian and pretty much starting the legendary Jiang/Yunmeng sect. - AHAHAHAHA Quan Yizhen telling Ren Song that he and Yin Yu are getting married. - NAH KILLING OFF MY BOY YIN YU LIKE THAT WAS SO DIRTY. MADE HIM SUCH A SYMPATHETIC CHARACTER AND FOR WHAT. AVDKBAORURBLCNWKZB - Ahhh XL getting scared of being r*ped by JW/BWX. I'm so so scared that XL's plan to "distract the emperor" so HC can kill him will go in a very awful direction... - So many of these one-liners and silly scenes and sarcastic or exapserated dialogue got me giggling. Lots of hilarity here, even amidst the seriousness. - OMFG QUAN YIZHEN JUST ADOPTING REN SONG. That was so cute. And then threatening Lang Qianqiu was hilarious. - Operation Echo was AWESOME and He Xuan battling JW with HC was AWESOME and Pei Ming joining in and fighting for Shi Wudu was AWESOME (dude finally got some answers about SWD but doesn't even know he's still alive). The only thing that concerns me is how XL has been sidelined. - Prediction time (It's been so rare that I make predictions because I honestly never know what to expect): I think Shi Wudu will save Langling and ascend again! He'll still look 17 though. And the curse won't leave until BWX dies. - I have to say, I'm a lot happier with the deepend relationship between the Xianle trio. The novels really don't do them justice, we barely get to see them together, so this was actually really nice. Everyone talking things out, worrying about each other no matter how awkwardly or reluctantly or secretively. - The Xianle group all being united in wanting XL to stop allowing himself to be hurt. I'm loving this. - This might be the best book by far? Everything is coming to a head so seamlessly. I can't wait for Pei Ming to realize HC is his son (because HC already found out from JW's comment and he already suspected), and for Pei to find Shi Wudu, and for SQX and HX to reunite and have BABY, and for everyone to be friends. I wonder if HC will still get dispersed... They seem to have a different plan going to get the cursed shackles off. Everything was set up with the God Slayer blade as a way to break the shackles like Shi Wudu did, so I'm thinking HC will stay? - Nah SQX going full coldblooded murderer? I don't care how much she's been through, our Wind Master is an unflappable little sunshine. I'm not a fan of her depiction here. Not everyone needs to be useful. Although SQX still was useful even when awkward and silly and a bit nervous! - Yeah as soon as shit started going down in Gusu, I figured SQX would ascend again. - The "Your friend? Who's that?" joke between SQX and HX gets me every time. Damn, they're cute. - Ok wow, we're losing Ren Song :( I know I've read way too many hundreds of thousands of words by now in this fic but it still feels too soon :( - HER MIND. THIS AUTHOR. WHAT THE FUCK. SHI WUDU BECOMING THE THUNDER MASTER?? AFTER WIELDING ZIDIAN AND HX BECOMING THE WATER MASTER?? BRILLIANT. SIMPLY BRILLIANT. IT WAS ALL SET UP SO PERFECTLY. HER MIND, I SWEAR. I seriously love the emphasis on the Elemental Masters, like it's true, why isn't there a god of fire? And I don't remember if there's thunder or lightning, but if there's rain, why not? - Damn, MQ's backstory goes hard...oh i love it and i hate it at the same time... It just really shows us why he's so defensive and angry and vulnerable, and I love that, but it hurt to see him abused from such a young age, being forced to step up. - Stoppppp bby XL and MQ are so cuuuuute. And XL getting slapped for the first time and actually crying from the pain...the reader didn't know whether to laugh or cry. - Yeah, MQ's backstory and Qi Deviation and reunion with FX were definitely worth two whole chapters. I'm not even being sarcastic. That was really well done. I'm still processing. - NO WAIT REN SONG IS BACK BABYY and OH SHIT HE A CALAMITY NOW WOOOOOOO - YAAAAAAAAAA the first thing XL saying, upon getting his sight back, to HC: "Handsome." LIKE FINALLYYYYYYY HC HAS WAITED SO LONG TO HEAR THAT HAHAHAHAHAHA - YO ALL THE CALAMITIES IN ONE ROOM TOGETHER??? HE XUAN CAME TO FIGHT BAI WUXIANG AND THEN RENG SONG CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD AND THEN HUA CHENG ARRIVED ON THE SCENE AFTER LEAVING XIE LIAN TO FIGHT JUN WU AFSKPSIEBOWBKQBSLLQ - Okay I'm confused because HC did the big rush of spiritual energy thing to break XL's cursed shackles, but then he left to fight JW. Why didn't he fade? I feel like we also went through that scene so quick. XL can finally see and he's back in all glorious god mode but HC has to leave immediately? They're separated during the big climax? Nope, not a fan. - I can't remember if I mentioned this, but I felt like XL is so useless in everything leading up to his shackles being broken so he can finally fight. But like, we've seen him fight before? He was able to block the blow between LQQ and HC when they fought in Paradise Manor, and he literally trained LQQ and kicked his ass for years, and he fought the demon in Gusu in a super badass display of his innate strength. I'm just not sold on the Helpless Blind Man agenda the author is trying to push here. It's been very inconsistent how capable XL is. - No one got to see how majestic XL was slaying the emperor :( - Kinda love HC in the afterlife or whatever ending up in XL's dreams in the past, when he was a kid. Because we do learn that XL dreamed of HC from a very young age. Here it's come to fruition! It truly was time travel. (I usually hate random inclusions of time travel, but it's kind of cool when it comes to dreams. Because dreams are neither here nor there...) It's also kind of funny, because I'd been thinking about how XL got to interact with tiny!HC but we never see HC with tiny!XL. - Ooh i kinda love Pei Ming telling XL that he'll cover for him as emperor for a while, but that he believes the position is suited to XL and that XL will have to step up one day. I totally agree!! And in the meantime, Pei Ming will rule and then Shi Wudu will come back (the person everyone originally thought would take over for Jun Wu) and they'll rule together <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3 And their reunion was cuuuute. Pei Ming immediately proposing was just AAHHH (and I felt the same when QYZ did that to Yin Yu :( didn't work out the same, but I'm convinced Yin Yu is coming back, he deserved SO much better, and so does QYZ really, after being neglected for years). - I like the idea of HC as Fire Master in theory, but in practice, felt weird. - Didn't feel like we needed to go through the whole court process for Shi Wudu's punishment, plus having to watch him getting whipped. - Stopppp FengQing is KILLING MEEEE. FX's confession was adorable. When he said that he really had been touching MQ's hair on purpose? HYSTERICAL. And onfjshjdjd MQ finally getting out what he needed to say. I'm so soft don't touch me. I'm realizing how much I absolutely love MQ and this fic did him REALLY WELL. - Aaarrrggh XL making baby clothes for SQX's kid is so cuuute - Bro i was so scared for the E content (literally why I haven't read any other HuaLian fics), but author kept it so classy and believable. Major props. Now show me FengQing. - LMAO smug HC when XL gets caught with hickeys. And of course it had to be FX and MQ. - It did not take me this long to realize that Zhang Wei is the prior incarnation of Wei Wuxian, it took YOU this long. The kid literally played a flute... His name is Wei... I'm an idiot. - The scene that made me tear up was when Xie Lian was talking about his parents and what they would have thought about HC. The way he described his mom's unconditional love, and how he would do the same... just not shaming your children and accepting them as they are... T_T - MY BOY YIN YU CAME BAACCCCCKKKKK. The reunion with QYZ was so damn cute. And funny, mostly. Crashing straight through a temple roof, tackling his shixiong, and proposing marriage on the spot is definitely QYZ's style LMAO. - The author acknowledgeds in the afterword that their favorite characters to write are Shi Wudu and Mu Qing, which is funny because I was just thinking that they are the best written of all. Feng Xin is also really accurate, but I think Xie Lian and Hua Cheng derail a bit, and Shi Qingxuan and He Xuan are unrecognizable at times. - (I may or may not have skipped the epilogue. I just felt like I'd had enough, tbh, and I wasn't interested in reading about everyone's children. After reading the author's endnotes though, I really respect what she did!) - I seriously loved reading the afterword! While I didn't agree with all the changes made in NPAB, there's no denying that this author is brilliant. So creative, so considerate, and seriously impressive.

1. The concept is so cool??? 2. The writing style is so good. 3. The author dives deeper into the world and also the characters. Especially on the side characters that we knew but never really got to know. 4. Hua Cheng and Xie Lian’s relationship (as well as everyone else’s tbh) and more fleshed out and given so much more impact. 5. The deviations of the main story were actually for the better. I liked some parts more than the MXTX novel, such as the Blackwater arc and the final fight.
Heavily recommend reading after you read the TGCF novels.
"I'm going to love you until every single part of me is gone, end even then — I'm not sure if I'll stop. If there's anything of me left behind — it will love you still."

What a freaking masterpiece. To have read this twice in the span of half a year and to have cried AGAIN so many times... I mean, I know I'm an emotional girl, but this is on another level.
I will not rest until more people that love Heave Officials' Blessing read this work. If you had doubts after my first review, please know that this holds up. READ IT!

Some people are just talented. There are authors (MXTX) that create a wonderful world and inspire other people. And then there are authors who build upon this created world, but do it so gracefully, that they, in turn, inspire even more people. I am honestly in awe.
This is a huge work. It's more than 1,1 mil words long (that was written in quite a short period of time, mind you). And I devoured it in two weeks. Honestly, if I hadn't had work, I would've managed even faster. Because it is that good. It isn't literary perfection, but see brackets above.
It is beautiful, painful, touching, maddening, filling you with tenderness and love to the brim (and so many more words I cannot think of right now). I highlighted so many quotes and moments. I cried actual tears, I chuckled, I felt anxious and scared, I was shocked. I love feeling all the feels while reading, and this book delivered that.
Evie (Cataclysmic_Calamity) also was able to create amazing original characters who found their place in the story as if they were always meant to be there. And these words in no way meant to diminish MXTX's writing. They are just a testimony to Evie's love for this work. And her incredible talent. These characters were no worse than the already existing ones. I fell in love with them, I cried for them, I wanted to see more of them. I cannot imagine this huge fanfiction without them, honestly. I think it's telling enough.
And she also expanded a lot of the stories that weren't explored enough in TGCF. Hua Cheng, Shi Wudu, Pei Ming, He Xuan, Shi Qingxuan became a lot more flushed out. And I also fell in love with them even more.
If you love TGCF and crave more, read this. You will not regret this!
If I read over a million words I’m counting it for my reading goals, damn it! Also, this slaps. Some of the OC and crossover content made me cringe a bit, but what this fic did with the actual canon was fucking magnificent and I will never forget it
