Jake Sands is a maritime historian that fights tenure and responsibilities. He loves looking at old ships getting their log books to explore which gets him trouble. However he isn't just a absent minded professor he has a fighting background being taught by his commando step father. When he sees that a man from his past is involved in getting the great Queen Mary sailing again he fears it will lead to a lot of deaths and vows to stop whatever the man is doing. Though with a mad billionaire's revenge in the works, the plan is even bigger and more dangerous then he could ever imagine.
Recommended, it is well written with plenty of action to keep you flipping pages. Sands is a great lead character and I'm looking forward to reading more of his adventures.
This is a fast paced maritime thriller. Quick read, lots of action. I enjoyed the historical content. Credible? No, but it's fun. I plan to read the next book in this series.
I was not sure when I stated reading this book but then I read something that caught my attention. From then on I viewed the story differently and the characters came alive. The plot was fast moving and the book pleasing to read with lots of clever historical references. This is a must read for all those interested in gripping plots that are linked with history.
This novel, based on historical facts, would appeal to a man but failed to engage me. I can only rate it as a woman. Some of the scenery is extremely well described and the writing is good enough for an entertaining read. That said, I didn’t engage with the characters enough to care about their welfare. I didn’t even know the professor’s plans most of the time. At the start, Jake seemed to be an ill-advised, impulsive fool. As I read further, he brought to bear amazing skills like fighting with enough skill to defeat trained thugs, and evading capture in tight situations despite the hair-raising odds against him. The ending held tension before a satisfying conclusion.
Maritime historian Jake Sands finds himself knee deep in a conspiracy, as a mad billionaire tries to take his revenge for past tragedies. Good book, could have done more to explain Jake's background, also some of his plans seem to be over complicated.
