Über den Schriftstellen Ernst Billgren wird als einer der meist bedeutenden All-Künstler Schwedens angesehen und er ist seit 1997 Mitglied der Kunstakademie. Seine Kunst ist von einer Vielfalt geprägt die unik ist. Die Motive die immer wieder in seinen Werken vorkommen sind die Naturmalerei, das Nationalromantische, und das Mythologische.

Kunst ist das was uns zu Menschen macht meint Ernst Billgren. Im Buch „Was ist Kunst und 100 andere wichtige Fragen“ wendet er den Kunstbegriff ein und aus und spielt mit der Terminologie des Kunstbegriffes. Er fragt sich „Wie weiß man ob ein Gemälde gut ist?“ Was ist Geschmack?“ Ist es wichtig, dass man Erfolg hat?“. Mit verschmitzten und lustigen Antworten führt er uns durch das Buch, das Interesse und die Neugierde weit über die Kunstsphäre hinaus erweckt.

What is the difference between choosing and creating?

Short answer:
They are exact opposites.

Long answer:
Making a choice is a passive action, while creating is a radical one. You always make your choices
based on knowledge, for instance which newspaper you prefer. Choosing is a very conservative activity. I myself, no matter how carefully I deliberate, almost always order the same kind of pizza. One vacation, as an experiment, I chose everything differently: different postcards, different food, different souvenirs. It resulted in more or less the same quality of life.

What we choose seldom makes a great difference. When a chaffinch perceives imminent danger from several directions (dog at the right, cat at the left, falling piano from above), it proceeds to preen itself, as a form of mental defense. Our equivalent of the finch’s preening is choosing – instead of doing what we should be doing. Creating something is an eye-opening experience. Many artistic careers consist 99 percent of making choices, for instance, which color to use – thus little is created. Increase the amount of creating and minimize the choosing.

This book was funnier and more thoughtful than I thought it would be! I really enjoyed reading this book.

With easy and simple language Ernst Billgren answers some questions about art. He has one short answer and one long answer. The clever part is that the answers can apply on all kinds of existential questions. I’m not an artist but I feel like I got some answers to some questions I didn’t know I had.

I highly recommend this book; it’s funny and insightful!

Čo je to umenie? Odpoveď na túto a ďalších 116 otázok nám prináša práve táto kniha od Ernsta Billgrena popredného Švédskeho umelca. Veľa odpovedí je filozoficky ladených a núti nás preto rozmýšľať nad vecami z inej perspektívy. Táto kniha mi poskytla priestor zamyslieť sa aj nad súčasnou situáciou. Autor v odpovediach taktiež spomína rôzne štúdie, ktoré používa vo svojích prirovnaniach. Táto útla knižka nám má rozhodne čo ponúknuť, okrem odreagovania aj priestor na zamyslenie či zistenie zaujímavých informácií nie len zo sveta umenia.

Otázka 27. Aký zmysel má umenie?

Totalitné režimy a ich predstavitelia mali vždy tendenciu prispôsobiť kultúru vlastným zámerom a zadávať jej úlohy, ktoré pre ňu boli len zriedka prirodzené. Zoberte si napríklad socialistický realizmus, ktorý síce prišiel s niekoľkými zaujímavými nápadmi, avšak vo všeobecnosti platí, že mal deštruktívny charakter. Úlohou pekára je piecť chlieb a úlohou umelca je tvoriť umenie. Ak chcete, môžete sa pokúsiť zachrániť svet, no nikdy sa z toho nemôže stať úloha všetkých vpekárov len preto, že to považujete za dobrý nápad.

Pre mňa veľmi zábavná kniha, ale tento humor nemusí sadnúť každému. Otázky si raz položil každý, kto v živote niečo tvoril a odpovede sú krátke a trefné. Väčšinou podporujú v tom, že si máte ísť svojou cestou. Ideál na záchod namiesto mobilu :D
