When your fiancé is an incredibly handsome professional baseball player, it’s hard to find time to be alone. Not that Andi Reynolds is complaining. It’s just that everyone wants a piece of superstar Greg Howland—from the news-hungry media, to his adoring fans. The only thing that keeps Andi sane is the knowledge that in a few short months, Greg will take her to the temple, and then he’ll be all hers…until the next baseball season, of course. But then an old enemy begins stalking Greg and the stakes rise drastically. When the stalker kidnaps Andi’s younger brother, Greg must make an impossible choice—who will live, and who will die.
Thanks Neita. It was good to finish off this series. I enjoyed it, though it may not be the most realistic series on the planet, it was fun to read, almost fantasy even. I loved the baseball component, but I think mostly I enjoyed getting to know the characters. I liked the various personality and thought they were well developed--Dawson, Zona May, Zeke, Darlene....strong personalities, but each of them was like someone I know, so they were very believeable and even funny. I thought this was the funniest of the books--even made me laugh aloud a few times at the wit of the characters. Fun.
greg is a famous baseball pitcher and a recent convert to the church. He has had a hard childhood with an alcoholic father who wasn't the pertector he should have been. Greg rose above that and is engaged to be married in the temple to andi, but after a blackmail went bad by his former agent, greg has cause to worry. Zeke martoni is a bad guy who wants revenge on greg for turning him in to the cops, but first he wants him to suffer. He plays little mind game with him that relate to gifts that appear and then have connection to events that occur later. Greg has to learn to trust in the Lord and the ones that love him if he and his loved ones are to survive.
Jake Martoni gets released from prison and the mind games begin. It's really unsettling and very personal. Greg is able, however, to buy a castle for Andi, inherit all of Zona May's stray kittens (several), and take his team to the World Series. My favorite is the engagement ring she gives to Greg. It's a CTR ring which stands for "Claimed", "Taken", and "Restricted."
Though a satisfying end to this series, I found the villain a little ineffectual and slow. He was always contemplating his grand master plan and was said to be so cunning and evil; it's odd that he didn't accomplish more. Good for the heroes that he didn't, but the picture painted of him and his actions didn't seem to match. Still a very good read though, and now I want a kitten.
I think the title should have been "Only the Heart Knows" as a direct quote from the poem. Next, I have not changed my stance. Greg should keep looking for a wife. Andi was whiny, weak-willed, judgmental, inflexible..... I scan-read the whole book: automatic two stars.
Loved reading about the continuing lives of these 2 characters. The main character is too much of a "worry wort" for me, so I didn't give this book 5 stars like the first 2
