White Collar Cowboy is a novella in a the new Shadow Maverick Ranch by Parker Kincade. The story opens to Lauren Delgado who is in a right state of shock after being downsized from a job that she was successful at for twelve years. Physically upset by the instant life change that was forced upon her, Lauren's roiling nerves force her into a bout of dry heaves. As she's trying to get herself together in her office bathroom, Lauren hears a voice that has haunted her intimate fantasies. Gavin Mathis *sigh*. Gavin is a man that she has respected and lusted after for a very long and she's shaken by his presence because of her frazzled state. She doesn't want anyone to see her that way, much less him. But Gavin will not be deterred. When he sees Lauren, his heart cracks open with sympathy and guilt. He knows the "why" behind her downsizing and he can't bear to see her so torn up. So, he tries to buoy her spirits by inviting her to his beach house to re-energize herself and figure out what to do with her life next. Lauren is at first resistant to what she feels is Gavin's pity but relents when she recognizes that she needs to take a break from life as she's known it. A serendipitous sequence of events places Gavin and Lauren at the house together and passion explodes in an instant. Gavin and Lauren are able to give in to their restrained desires and enjoy intimacy in a way that leaves them panting. But Gavin has a secret that threatens to tear the couple apart before they even begin.
White Collar Cowboy is short, sweet, and sexy. In spite of being a novella-lengthed book, the story felt complete and was utterly engaging. I liked Gavin and Lauren quite a bit and the interaction between them. Once they were able to be in a relaxed environment, neither of them were as staid as they first appeared in the story. Their relaxed demeanors made the story light and fun and the banter between them was sexy-sweet. Although the reader only sees glimpses of the Mathis family through Gavin's eyes, I was totally sold on them, and I'm looking forward to reading their stories.
Parker Kincade is a wonderful writer and has the ability to immediately pull the reader into her story and enrapture them from beginning to end. My only complaint with this story was that it was TOO. SHORT. I wanted more Gavin! *YUM*

I thought this might be a cute 'going home again' story, but I was wrong. It was just another one about sex; pages and pages of sex in this 130 page novella. And their conversations before and during sex were just silly and juvenile. And since the word "pussy" was used 8 times (according to my iPad)
I can only guess that the sex was going to happen more than once or twice. So, I'm assuming it wasn't really a story at all. It was only written about sex for those who like reading about nothing but sex.
As to the narration: Lorenzo Matthews was horrible. Every woman sounded like a man and the little bit of sex I heard him read made me think he was bored to death. Not interested in ever reading this author or listening to this narrator again.

A short, great romance story. Good storyline and I really liked the location of the story, Galveston Island. The main characters, Gavin and Lauren, are wonderful, realistic and super hot together. It's a great hot and steamy read. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

holy hot cowboys! Parker Kincade rocked this book and made me want to go find a hot cowboy lol. Lauren and Gavin have worked together throughout the years but when he finds out she was let go its Gavin to the rescue but is for guilt or is there more to them? This book was absolutely fantastic and fast read and heck of start to this new series. Im hooked on it now and can't wait to read the rest of these books.

Wonderful series starter…cannot wait to see how the series progresses with the rest of the siblings. The characters are well written and likeable and the storyline so enjoyable it practically leaps off the pages. It is easy to follow and believable, you can almost see it happening in front of you as you read. It is a wonderful story about taking chances, opening yourself up to possibilities of unmeasurable happiness and love of family. It was nice to see no added hardships between the couple, like jealous or vindictive ex’s, etc., to take away from the story. Just two people learning the depth of their feelings for each other and wanting to build a lasting relationship.
Lauren Delgado and Gavin Mathis have worked at Clearwater International for 12 years and though in different locations, her in New York and him in London, have collaborated over the years on projects. A mutual attraction simmers between them but being colleagues and in different locations, neither wishes to cross the line until one day when an opportunity to good to pass up presents itself.
Lauren is reeling from the fact that she just lost her job from company restructure and downsizing. She feels lost and confused having devoted all her time to her work and now has nothing to show for it. While still reeling from this news, in walks Gavin feeling guilty and wanting to apologize for his part in her sudden dismissal but seeing her in her current state, takes a different route instead and offers her comfort and his secluded home on Galveston Island where she can rest, recoup and decide what to do next. Throwing caution to the wind she accepts the invitation not expecting him to be there as well. After his unexpected arrival, they both let fate take over and passion ignites.
Gavin has just turned in his notice, shipped all his belongings to his family ranch and is getting ready to go home to take over operations at his family’s ranch, Shadow Maverick Ranch. The ranch has been in the family for generations and he is finally ready to step up and oversee things so his father can retire. Taking one final break to clear his head at his Galveston home before heading to the ranch, he is shocked to discover Lauren in his living room; having accepted his invitation. For a novella White Collar Cowboy never makes you feel short changed, it's a complete story that fully immerses you in the romantic getaway of former co-workers turned lovers. It's a straight forward story that has no Big Misunderstandings but instead relies on internal conflict stemming from issues every couple faces. Issues of work and long distance relationships, along with unnecessary feelings of guilt, weigh on this couple as their sensual time together solidifies their burgeoning relationship.
Lauren spent over ten years devoted to her job to the exclusion of having a life. When she's sent packing she's left feeling lost but committed to finding the life she's denied herself. When given the chance she jumps at the gorgeously sculpted hunk of manliness that offers himself to her without reservations. She's a strong-willed heroine, smart but whose emotions have her jumping to conclusions first before her brains have her doing the right thing. Seeing her unwind during her two weeks with Gavin made for an entertaing and sensual journey of exploration for them both.
Gavin is a wonderfully drool-worthy hero devoted to his family which inadvertently causes Lauren to lose her job. Guilt has him wanting to make things right but his unrequited attraction has him wanting to claim her when he offers her the peace and tranquility of his beach house. He's a super sexy hero who's a true romantic and good at taking care of others as seen by the subtle yet loving words and deeds he showers Lauren with. He's loyal and honorable and I'm still dreaming about him.

This was a sweet story with a lot of heat. The characters had good chemistry and the characters all around were lovable. The premise for the story intrigued me right away and the author wastes no time in diving right into it. There was no point at which I was bored at all and it all focused on the relationship between Gavin and Lauren that started at work and what they each had planned for their futures which suddenly seemed different than they’d originally thought.

Great read
This is a great short romance with Lauren and Gavin center stage. Gavin had worked 12 years with Lauren on domestic and international deals. They were a good team. But when it came time for Gavin to throw in the towel for moving back home and working on his family's spread, the dominoes had fallen. The company had been thinking of changing direction and when Gavin left they sent Lauren packing as well.
Decided dad ing to take him up on the invitation to go to his beach house, they find each other. Naked and nearly naked...yum.
What I really like about these stories is they are real. No pretending to be upset, no dramatics, no should I shouldn't I. The normal, "is this sensible", just am I ready.
I also liked the fact that they didn't get hung up on things that were obviously not an issue and make it whole chapters.
I am originally from the great state of Texas and can feel the heat ...
You will appreciate the development of the characters, and the roads they have and are walking. Also, just enough mention of the other family members to give reference.

Ms. Kincade never fails to rev my engines. One of my go-to authors, she blends likable characters, easy-to-imagine situations and heart-stopping romance in her books. White Collar Cowboy is no exception. A novella, it still feels rich and textured. We feel we know characters Lauren and Gavin. Indeed, we probably have known them at one time. This is what I like about this book. It feels real. Ms. Kincade gives us a tantalizing slice of life here, only better and sexier. As Gavin and Lauren deal with job situations that anyone could have, we feel their emotions. We want them to succeed and we get swept away when they come to their resolution. This author never fails to "bring it" when it comes to romance and sex appeal. She will get your heart stopping and make it pound as it has never pounded.

I thoroughly enjoyed White Collar Cowboy. Gavin & Lauren melted my heart & this is a very touching story of finding love. A short novella to read when you are wanting something to take your mind off of insomnia. I hate sleepless nights but Parker Kincade kept my mind flowing to find out the ending. Can't wait to start the other books in the Shadow Maverick Ranch Series.

This was the first story I've read by Parker Kincade. The title leads the reader to believe there is a stronger cowboy element than there really is in this novella. It reads more as an office romance between two former colleagues. After Lauren suddenly loses her job due to downsizing she is at a loss of what to do. Her secret office crush, Gavin, suggest she spend some time at his house in Texas. She accepts not realizing he would be there, too, and of course, a hot romance ensues.
This was a quick read, and I wish I had felt more connected to both of the main characters. Their repressed attraction over the years and their current situation helped carry this story. I did feel like the relationship was rushed. Stil, I enjoyed this book and will read more from this author.

Hot!… and a good story, too! Lauren is a high-powered NYC business exec who just saw her job disappear without warning. All these years, and all she leaves her office with is one cardboard box? Stunned hardly captures her mood when her secret heartthrob and London counterpart, Gavin, suddenly appears and offers his condolences. His advice? She should take some time for herself to sort things out. She should take the key to his empty seaside Texas vacation home for a few days, just to get her head together. Oddly, and against her normal judgment, she takes him up on his offer and heads south. And that is where the fun, the heat, and her future begin.
I enjoyed this book very much.

The premise is a little different than the average Western but the author does a great job of merging the two together for an enjoyable read. I enjoyed the description of the scenery of Galveston Island. It’s not often that a location will have a role in a romance. That little detail sets the book. Characters are interesting and believable.
The story is well done and I enjoyed it.

I love Parker’s writing style. She has a way of pulling you into the book. Immediately I was hooked. I could not put it down. I love books like that whether it may be a novella or novel. I loved the main characters. They are realistic and I was right there feeling all of their emotions and intensity from their careers and being lovers. And as far as the lovers part of the story? I was so wanting to be Lauren! I fell in love with the business man that wants to go back to being a cowboy. What I love most about Parker’s writing is that her stories are realistic. I feel like her characters are real people, living in the real world. I am a PK fan now and will be reading everything she writes!

This was a really good story about Gavin and Lauren. Gavin didn't realize a decision that he made would effect Lauren's job. Lauren has no clue about why she lost her job. Gavin offers Lauren a place to stay and relax until she figures out what to do. Lauren doesn't realize that Gavin will be at the beach house. Sparks fly between these two and I was hoping that they would be able to work everything out once Lauren found out what happened with her job. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

I won this book in a contest and am so glad I did! This novella starts off the Shadow Maverick Ranch series. While it does go by quickly, it doesn't feel short (if that makes any sense). The writing was excellent, and I really loved the characters. The build up to their relationship was great, and it's even better once they come together! There was just enough drama to keep things interesting, but nothing gets too dragged out or slows down the story. This really was a great read, and I am excited to keep reading more!

I love Parker Kincade. I've read her Martin Family Series and her Game On series and can't get enough. She writes in several different romance genres and excels at all of them.
I live in Oklahoma so cowboy romances are near to my heart. Ms. Kincade did it so well. I loved the story told in White Collar Cowboy and hope the rest of the series focuses on Gavin's family. I can't wait for more from Parker!

This was my first Parker Kincade novel and has made me into an instant fan.
I’m totally addicted to Cowboys, but when you add brains and tattoos, I’m a complete goner!
I’m not going to tell you what happens; you need to read the book. But I will say, that Ms Kincade is right up there with some of the BEST authors of Cowboy romance I have read!!
So looking forward to book two!!

Ok I am slowly changing my mind on these short novels. I use to hate them because they were so short but now I am enjoying the quick reads at the end of my day. great storyline awesome steamy scenes a must read if you like short novels

Finished this today.. If I could I would have given it a 3.5 stars. It was good but to short, I wish there would have been an epilogue. Hopefully the other books in the series will fill in the gaps...

The story is not extraordinary, but enjoyable, and I really liked author’s style. It is delicate one that attracts you. I will definitely try another book of hers.
