PUSHED
Ron Redwine is an up-and-coming author, a man whose lifelong dream of achieving celebrity status in the literary world is finally becoming a reality. But Ron isn’t only a writer. He’s also a sadistic serial killer who kidnaps, tortures, and murders women in his basement.
Nicole Lee is a beloved wife and mother. She’s also the only woman who has ever escaped Ron’s clutches. After being held in captivity for nearly a year, she found a way out, a way to be free once again and go back to her life. Only she can’t. The life she knew before her abduction is gone. Separated from her husband and son, Nicole is psychologically broken. She spends months in a mental health facility trying to put the past behind her so she can return to her family.
Upon her release, Nicole hides herself away in a fleabag motel where she wrestles with her demons alone. When an interview on the local news advertises the last two stops on Ron’s latest book tour, she becomes enraged. Furious that he’s able to live his life happily while she’s reduced to an existence filled with guilt and despair, she decides to take matters into her own hands.
Pushed too far, Nicole seeks her revenge, using Ron’s own devices against him.
Okay ladies and gentlemen, this is the craziest shit I have ever read!
Ron is a struggling author who decides to do some "research" for his next book: Held. He kidnaps Nicole, a mother and wife, from the mall one day, all in the name of research of course.
He takes Nicole home...
Yeah, I am going to stop right there. Here is why, its better to read this story and be completely grossed out shocked.
Held had me reaching for momma, cringing, throwing up in my mouth, and lastly laughing.
Yeah laughing...Ron says the absolute craziest things. He is a complete psychopath, and he is written to perfection!
I loved this book - it's a crazy, gory, and a complete mind fuck. BUT it isn't for everyone!
My review for Pushed will be listed separately was as I do not wish to spoil.
Bettes brilliantly tells the story of Nicole Lee, a young wife and mother who has been abducted by a psychopath, Ron. The savage brutality she witnesses and endures is described very graphically and makes the stories incredibly compelling. I felt as if I were right there alongside poor Nicole, sharing her pain and torment. I grew angry, outraged and disgusted by Ron's actions and his lack of compassion and remorse.
Both "Held" and "Pushed" are well-written, gripping, unforgettable stories. I thoroughly enjoyed reading them and highly recommend them to horror and gore fans with strong stomachs! I will definitely be reading more books by this amazing author.
Oh yeah, this is my kind of book! I found that I had already read Held, but I re-read it to get ready for Pushed. Wow, what a great combination! I will warn that they're both very graphic, for those of you with weak stomachs, but I would highly recommend them. Kudos to Kimberly! I will definitely be reading more of her books!
What a great book! Or rather, two books. I'm so glad I read them back to back. Book one ended at that point where I almost screamed before realizing I had the second book waiting for me. I am definitely a new fan of this author and look forward to reading more of her books.
GOOD LORD. I am just going to hyperventilate until I find another dark read worth reading like this one.
Holy cow. Book 1 got me so hard, it threw my emotions and feelings out of the windows like WHO THE F CARES ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS ANYWAY? Towards the end I WAS ROOTING FOR HER but still waiting anxiously what Ron would do next.
Second book, BLEW ME AWAY. HOLY COW. Nicole, salutè. Guuuuuurl, that was THE BEST REVENGE PLAN I HAVE EVER READ. Though it is not nearly as torturous as he did, but serves enough. It says how inhuman Ron is/was.
Book 2 always gives us some confusing background of Ron's past and his insight. Seriously tho, the guy is freaking delusional it takes a great effort not to feel sorry for the guy.
Not recommended for anyone who doesn't want to read about torture.
Right from the beginning, I don't quite feel Nicole's fears even though the entire Held was written in her POV. So even after completing Held, Nicole's character doesn't quite speak to me. Torture scenes were too much and too frequent for me to stomach, so I had to skip those, but had to complete the book just to see what happens to Nicole at the end.
Wished the author had written more on the escape scenes, how Nicole eventually returned home, and how she began on her recovery process, so that the reader could perhaps get more closure after enduring through the torture scenes. If the author's intention by not giving too much closure is to "push" the reader to go on to "Pushed", then I'd say that was successful.
Regardless, I need a break to "recover" mentally before I can continue with the 2nd novel, so it's DNF for the time being.
This review is for Pushed since I have already written one for Held. If you were only looking for retribution you will be happy with this book, but if you were hoping for more you'll be disappointed. There was also multiple plot holes that had me rolling my eyes and yelling "yeah right!!" The police not looking for Ron, or Ron never even going after Nicole after she escaped his home was beyond ridiculous to me and made me not even take this story seriously. It was too far fetched. I liked the hole revenge thing but it got boring after a while. Overall this was very ehhh for me and I give it 2.5 stars
Disturbingly dark! This book is not for the faint hearted ....I Have to say i have never read anything like this in my life and i like dark reads but this pushed my limits. I'm so glad I read theses books back to back. I have to say i Didn't enjoy book 2 as much as book 1 just some of the stuff in the book book seemed a bit far fetched i mean the police stopped looking for Ron and Ron didn't go looking for her after she escaped but apart from that 2 parts overall i gave it 4 star's because book 2 but they are both worth the read Great books!!
If you have a weak stomach, this book isn't for you. This is definitely a DARK read. In this book we have Ron, the want to be author. He's determined to write his next work of fiction, and it's going to be from factual events. No matter what the cost. Then we have Nichole, she's the latest twists to Ron's new plot for his book. If you thought Kathy Bates was crazed in Misery, put on your big girl pants because you've seen nothing yet. If you love a strong female lead, and a crazed psychopath, this book is for you. I highly recommend this book.
it could of been an absolute awesome 5 star book that i would of gladly added to my 'mind fuck' shelf.. but no... it just... fell apart..
the belt sander... the lemon juice... you were giving Angel a run for her money in Hillary: Tail of the Dog but no.. it just went to absolute shit after that, and I am mad because of it..
Okay. Firstly this series left me in complete awe. It was so twisted and so fucked up. Ron is one of the notorious villains I've ever read about. A complete psychopath. The stuffs he did and said horrified me. He was definitely a "madman". This series was so different than other books, without a plot of Stockholm Syndrome and I loved it. Nicole was a badass heroine and the way she gave Ron the taste of his own medicine was phenomenal. Loved every part of this book.
This book was gruesomely graphic. I actually think the story suffered for it. This could have been a great read, but the author neglected to really develop her characters. There were also huge holes in the story. I know I am reading fiction, but it needs to be somewhat plausible.
I'm lost for words. I had such cases a morbid curiosity I had to finish these. Very disturbing and not for everyone. Oh the mind of a serial killer and psychopath is not somewhere is want to live.
What a great book I loved it. I loved everything about it but for me the best bit has to be victims revenge, I freaking loved it I highly recommend this book!
