Every day new blogs are started. People sign up for accounts, they begin posting their ideas and stories, and then… well, they get stuck. They need more readers and better ways to share content. They need to find a network of other bloggers they can bounce ideas off of.
Based on her years of experience as a mentor to new bloggers, Becca Ludlum looks over your shoulder and answers the questions you haven’t asked yet. She gives you tips about setting up your blog, connecting with others in the blogging community, and making a few dollars in the process–Becca’s giving you everything but the posts. By the end of the book, you’ll be ready to use the templates she provides to pitch brands for reviews or conference sponsorships and even create your own media kit to present with your pitch. If you have questions, Becca is just a status update away in the Everything But the Posts Facebook group, which you’ll have the opportunity to be a part of after purchasing this book.
It’s time to get started! In no time you will have the design, knowledge, and support you need to create an amazing blog or kickstart your existing one. Let Becca help you improve every aspect of your blog!

This slim book does not presume to waste your time. Aspects of blogging constantly change, but the basic process of creating a blog remains pretty consistent.
If you've been thinking about starting a blog, then this book is the perfect guide that you can read quickly to assess if you really want to put in the work necessary to create your own brand. Sure, you could read longer and thicker guides. I have, but there are too many technical aspects of blogging that change. As soon as a guide is published, a good chunk of the advice is out-of-date.
This book gives you an overview of the process from choosing a blogging platform to designing your blog. From building your community to monetizing your blog. Ludlum gives clear definitions for terms like SEO, no-follow links, and widgets that any beginner can understand. She doesn't overwhelm you with too many details that change with time.
If you decide that creating a blog is for you, I would suggest that you research online the current practices for the steps Ludlum outlines.
Case in point...
In her first chapter, she states that there are three major blog platforms: Blogger, Wordpress.com, and Wordpress.org. While all of those platforms still exist and are still popular, there are numerous other choices: Squarespace, Weebly, Wix, and ShowIt to name a few. Depending on when you're reading this review, there are probably even more.
Just because a platform is popular doesn't mean that platform will work for you. You need to do the research to decide which platform best fits your needs. If you can't be bothered with doing the research, then blogging isn't for you. Blogging takes work. Ludlum gives you a clear overview to get started, but if you're not going to dedicate the time to figuring out the current nuances for each step, then save yourself the time and effort. Blogging won't make you happy.
And if you've been blogging for a bit, regularly posting, building a brand, sending out newsletters, debating about strategies to monetize, then there's probably not much in this book that will help you. As someone who's been blogging for almost four years, I didn't learn anything new from this book. The value offered here is for the newbie or potential blogger who's truly unsure about the basic steps to take to start their own blog.
As a blogger looking to monetize, this book had everything I needed without being too long! I finished this book in about an hour and will have tons of references to come back to later. Great investment for the new or looking-to-monetize blogger! So happy to have all the info I need in one spot!
This is a swift read with helpful nuggets about progressing in the blog kingdom. I will use this as a continual reference book and plan to go back through it with a highlighter the second time around. I thought there might be more about the construction of the blog (i.e. coding, widgets, etc.), but there is always room for a sequel, right?
I met Becca back in 2009 when she first started deep down in the blogging trenches and to watch her passion soar to new heights is truly a pure delight! I highly recommend Everything But The Posts to anyone who has a blog, wants to blog, likes margaritas, or is a human being!!!
Easily read and the content is on point. Gave information I didn't know about. Gave the process from beginning to end on how to be a successful blogger. The sponsor chapter was informative, and insightful.
