When the Sun Goes Down

Rate this book
Trina is a quiet, reserved music teacher at an inner-city elementary school. Because of the traumatic events of her childhood, she’s skittish of people in general, but men especially frighten her. However, when Lucca Ellis appears in her life, he refuses to take no for an answer. Will he be able to help her overcome the past that has kept her a prisoner for over eight years?

Kat is a woman scorned and out for revenge. Wronged by the men in her life, she thrives on belittling and dominating all men that she comes in contact with. Her end goal is to make the one man, the one who stole her life away as a child, pay for his actions, and she doesn’t care who she has to destroy to get there.

These two lives that both thrive on control, were never supposed to overlap, but anything can happen… When the Sun Goes Down.

Um....what was that?? For real? This book made absolutely no sense to me what-so-ever. None. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Seriously, the whole book

From the plot to the dialogue to the MCs. EYE. ROLL. INDUCING.

Warning: This WILL contain spoilers!!!!!!

If you plan to read this book, ABORT NOW. Do not continue reading my review. It's impossible to give an honest review and explain what I didn't like without spoiling the story.

Let's start with the twist...

Hell, maybe it wasn't even supposed to be a twist because it's PAINFULLY OBVIOUS within the first few chapters that

The story is told in alternating POVs between Trina and Kat.

Trina is a frumpy, plain, boring music teacher. She doesn't have any personal relationships, she doesn't even really seem to like people. She's very stand-off-ish claiming she doesn't want people to know about her past.

Kat is a saucy, slutty, vixen. She spends her nights taking revenge on the male population by giving them all severe cases of blue balls.

Now, here's where you start to lose me.

You want to get revenge against your father--who got away with killing your mother--so you spend 18 months giving out blue balls left and right? Only to pick two guys who are close to your dad, work them up, take pictures of them committing infidelity and proceed to blackmail them? All to bring down your dad? When what you really want to do is kill him....

I'm sorry but what???

Add to the mix, Leo who is Kat's bodyguard/slash driver that is her accomplice in this "game"....who gives her oral every night afterwards.

And Lucca the new teacher at Trina's school who will stop at nothing to have her.

I honestly thought the writing was just so-so. The dialogue was eye roll inducing and cheesy. I skimmed from 40% on....but believe me, I got the gist.

By the end...

And for the record.....

Best part of the book.....Leo!

And how did Trina get so rich?

I’m so sorry but the writing and the story line just wasn’t very good.

description

I have read the author’s other series and I may have had issues with the ending of that series but her writing was decent throughout all three of those books. I’m not sure if the author went for the mysterious feel but this story just didn’t work for me and was more of a painful read.

The main characters were weak and their dialogue was cheesy at times and the storyline…just dumb. Honestly, Lucca was such a lacking character and his dialogue was completely eye rolling material. Sadly, I didn’t care about Trina or Kat and . If I had to choose, the character with the least dialogue was my favorite.

”I’ve never been into this kind of thing before. I’m not a Dom, or anything like that, and the last thing I ever want to do is hurt you,” he clarifies. “But like I told you before, you bring out this side of me…”

description

”Just think of me as your nightlight until the day comes when the sun rises again in that fragile little heart of yours.”

Revenge, instant love (that I didn’t buy), awkward sex scenes and a supposed shocking ending left me greatly disappointed. I get where the author was going with the story but it came off lacking.

I absolutely bloody loved this book.

Told from 2 POVs we get an daily look into the lives of Kat and Trina.

Trina is a straight laced Elementary School Music teacher, who Keeps herself to herself. She's no interest in men or relationships till she has a run in with the Hot new teacher Mr Lucca Ellis.

Kat well what can I say about Kat, She has her own scale of Crazy and I loved her from the beginning. She's a man hater and out for revenge any way she can get it, with the help of her Bodyguard/Driver/Lover the gorgeous Leo.

This has to be one of my Favourite books for 2014 so far. I cant really give a full review without giving the plot away but its defiantly a must read. I guessed how the women were connected quite early on but it didn't take anything away from the story.

Thanks to the lovely AB for buddy reading it with me, looking back at our random texts at different parts of the book made me laugh.

I loved this book!!!

Told from 2 POV's we learn about the 2 very different lives of Trina and Kat.

Trina is a very introverted and reserved woman who works at an Elementary school teaching music which is where she meets Lucca, oh the lovely Lucca.

Then we have Kat who is, how do I put it...Totally bat shit crazy, but such a great character I loved her! A bit OCD, man hating, loves to dominate and out for revenge. She has a strange relationship with her driver Leo, oh the lovely Leo.

You need to read this book - I did have an inkling how the 2 women were connected quite early on but I didn't care because it was a really unique story for me.

Thanks to my Sammy for buddy reading - I couldn't have read this on my own x

I seriously couldn't wait to read this book, as soon as I got the chance I dropped everything to start it, and honestly, the world could have crashed down around me and I wouldn't have noticed, I was dragged into the book right from the prologue!

Meeting the two women in this story was exciting, they are totally different. Trina is a nice woman, she's an elementary school teacher, but she's very reserved. I was curious about why she was happy living her life with not much interest in socialising, and even less interest in men. Men don't effect her and she can usually switch off with them and people in general. She's hiding a past that makes you all the more curious every time she mentions it, I mean, it must be bad if she thinks they'll run off screaming if they knew, and they probably all would... all except Lucca who is determined to break her walls and get in to her head... And heart.

Lucca is gorgeous, like drop dead gorgeous... I love him! He's calm, collected, caring, protective, and did I mention gorgeous? There is something about him right from the moment you meet him that pulls you in, and right the way through the book I kept thinking and feeling there was something about him... Besides his dominant side. He is heart melting sweet and panty dropping hot... He's everything a girl could wish for!

Kat on the other hand, is a seductress. She doesn't work days. She's dark, dominant and downright fucked up, but boy does she know how to use her mind and skills to get exactly what she wants. She wants revenge, and she's not the type of girl to give up until she's got it, even if it means she has to fuck with a few guys along the way!

Then there is Leo, he's hot, he takes care of her every need... Together they are sorta messed up, but it's understandable. He is amazing... I loved him, and wish I could have more of him!

Both girls, and their stories are so different that it makes you feel like you're reading two totally different books... That is until the two stories collide in a way that makes you skip back a page in case you missed something! And then it all comes crashing to your mind when you realise you didn't miss anything at all, and that it was staring you in the face all along, but you was so wrapped up in the story that you missed it.
The twists and turns and oh my god moments have you screaming and shouting, but the way it's written is amazing, the anticipation builds after each part, making you want to read quicker just to find out what happens to the girls next. At times I felt like I was going to burst!

This book was a refreshing change to the typical stories I have gotten used to reading, I mean I seriously haven't heard of or read one like it. Ever. It's hot, steamy, intriguing, heart wrenching and unbelievably additive! I LOVED this book and it will remain a favourite of mine and one that I will recommend over and over!

Erin, you did an awesome job on this book babe and I meant what I said, people would be crazy not to love it!!

5 amazing interwoven stars!!

As soon as I started reading this novel, my brain was in complete overdrive on how the story and characters were going to play out!Wow!

We have Trina Foster, an elementary school music teacher. She is a loner, preferring to do her job and not connect or have any relationships with her co-workers. She has no close friends at all except a distant friendship based at school only with Laura, a fellow teacher.

Then we get to meet Mr Lucca Ellis, a fill in substitute teacher. From the first run in meeting of these two characters who will love the instant banter, his charisma and gentle but alpha male personality.

Next character we meet is the spunky, confident, sexy Kat. But a slight fault in her character is the tradegy that lives with her since she was fourteen. She deals with this in ways you may not agree, but you will feel her pain. The only person she truly trusts is Leo. Leo and his momma Rosa have been in her life from a very early age. Leo's only priority has always been to take care of her, look out for her and keep her safe.

This novel will keep you guessing with all the secrets and suspense. You will love the characters especially Lucca & Leo.

Thank you book buddies for the recommendation:)x

Another author added to my favourite list!!

I couldn't wait to read and review this book.. I have LOVED Erin from the moment I read her Metamorphosis book Jan of 2013.

Do not be fooled by the fact that she is known for her "book boyfriend series." She has outdone herself on so many levels with When the Sun goes Down- I couldn't be prouder.

This story follows two girls stories/POV Trina and Kat.
One(Trina) is the good girl. Teacher, quiet, recluse- with no plans to change.
The other(Kat) is anything but those things. She's a Strong, beautiful, bold, domineering woman in every way.

I wasn't sure how to feel about two stories in one but honestly the flow of them both is perfection. You are just as much invested in one as the other.

Trina meets Lucca. He's also a teacher and he wants her. He pushes her outside of her bubble and SWOOOOOON CITY you will LOVE you some Lucca.

Kat has always had Leo. He's her Bodyguard, her best friend, her lover. Her everything. I am head over heels with Leo. HEAD OVER HEELS.

The places you go with these characters are anything but what you expect and the twists won't stop until the last page.

WTSGD- FIVE GIANT HUGE BEAUTIFUL SHINING STARS.

IT'S COMING SOON- BUY IT. DEVOUR IT. FALL IN LOVE. EXPERIENCE SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN YOU'VE EVER READ. TRUST ME- YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

Erin Noelle is a new-to-me-author and one I will keep my eyes on. This is not a completely new plot line but the way in which the author builds the momentum and challenges readers to keep guessing is well-crafted and unique. Although I did figure out the main big reveal before it happened, the author continues with the plot on a second level that didn't hit me until very near the end. The characters were fascinating and cleverly portrayed. The story gave me several really wow moments that genuinely took me a moment to choke down. After a shocking and rocky ride, happiness is at the end of the road.

If you enjoy a bit of a mystery/thriller feel, hotly spiced with romance a bit questionable at times to say the least, you'll probably enjoy this one. Without a doubt, you won't be bored!

This is an excellent story told in the POV of Trina and Kat, I'll say no more about them because I don't want to give away the plot, let's just say it keeps you guessing about how's these women's lives are intertwined.
Trina is the reclusive music teacher whilst Kat is a predator on the male species, seemingly intending to damage as many as she can.
It's an interesting story but I have to say I guessed a lot of the twists in it before I got to them.
Great author certainly one to read for something a little different.
4.5 stars from me.

Ever since I read Erin Noelle's Book Boyfriend series, I became a HUGE FAN of hers, and have been looking forward to her next book. When I read When the Sun Goes Down, I was happily surprised how different it was compared to the the BB series, but no less incredible!

This is a story told by 2 different women's POV, Trina Foster, and Kat Green. Trina is a music teacher, and enjoys teaching the kids, but her social life is non existent. She has no need or want to have friends, let alone a man in her life, until she meets the gorgeous Lucca!

Kat is a woman born from a rich family. She has been extremely hurt by a man from her past. Since then, she uses any man she meets and seduces, to get revenge against the one that hurt her, and refuses to care for any man, ever again, except for Leo. Leo has known Kat most of her life, and is her closest friend.

This book was Fantastic!! The characters are so very strong, and incredibly deep. The friendships and love that form are so realistic and believable! Both women's POV's flow perfectly with each other.

I rate this book 5++++ stars! It was an absolute masterpiece! There is no way possible NOT, to fall in love with the characters, as well as Erin Noelle's writing. This is a DEFINITE MUST READ, you will find that you won't be able to put it down!

***ARC was provided by author for an honest review***

Trina is a woman hiding something deep and dark. Something she doesn’t want anyone to know. Trina was perfectly okay with being alone, because being alone meant keeping her secret and her heart safe. Kat is pissed and angry. She loves nothing more than taking strong willed men and brining them to their knees. Trina’s whole world is come upside down the minute she slammed the door into a fellow coworker. Lucca came into her world and everything around her started to crumble, but out of the debris came something beautiful.

This book took me by surprise. I am such a fan of the Boyfriend series that I was beyond excited to read this. I loved the character of Kat. She was a total tough chick, who took her insectaries and anger and channeled them into something she felt was positive. Trina and Kat couldn’t be more different and the way the two characters intertwine and mingle is intense. I was a little confused in the beginning about what was going on between switching characters, but when everything clicked it made total sense and was amazing! Once I got into this book I didn’t want to put it down. I highly recommend this book. Another great book by Erin!

So, I bet you think you know what you're going to get when you finally get your hands on this little beauty, huh? -- Eh, no. No, you're not.

What was I expecting after I squealed like a teenager once this ARC hit my Kindle? Honestly, I had no idea, but it wasn't... that!

Erin has this uncanny ability to produce story lines that are gripping, different, and hold a sense of realism. And my god, she did it again.

When The Sun Goes Down is one of my favorite reads of this year, and also one of my favorite reads from Erin Noelle. I loved her first series, but this one just took the cake! -- Mmm, cake.

When The Sun Goes Down is filled with so much heat, you're bound to feel the burn.

Five ridiculously awesome stars!

One reason I enjoy Erin Noelle’s books so much is because she’s not afraid to go against the norm. Her stories take her in the direction they want her to go, challenging her to stay true to the storyline and message they want her to tell. When the Sun Goes Down is a much darker read than her Book Boyfriend Series. It’s a unique story told through two very different women’s point of views. It’s an intriguing read because it keeps readers guessing throughout the text as to how these two women are connected, and when the pieces start falling into place, we are left wondering what its outcome will be.

The first woman readers meet is Trina. Trina is an elementary music teacher who is a bit of a recluse. She keeps to herself and tries to isolate herself from people. No one is allowed to get close to her; she doesn’t offer any personal information about herself, and she makes no attempts at forming personal connections with anyone. Readers can sense that something huge happened in her past and that is why she doesn’t interact with many people, but it remains unclear for the first half of the book what may have occurred. Despite Trina’s best effort to remain in the shadows, though, Lucca Ellis, a substitute teacher, penetrates her walls and shows her what it feels like to be loved and protected by someone. The only question is if Trina is willing to take a risk that could leave her vulnerable.

The point of view then switches to Kat; she’s Trina’s antithesis. She’s a highly sexual woman who seduces unknowing men for what seems to be a form of revenge for past indiscretions she had no control over. Her life is shrouded in darkness, deceit, and double dealings. The only person who has any form of real connection to her is Leo who acts as both her bodyguard and chauffeur. Payback seems to be what drives Kat, but it remains unclear for some time what her ultimate goal is.
As the text progresses, Trina and Kat’s stories begin to intertwine and the mystery that surrounds them begins to unravel, but when everything is said and done, will love or revenge win out?

It took a bit for me to get into the text. There’s such a disconnect between Kat and Trina’s storylines at the beginning that it was hard to understand what was going on. It was hard to wrap my head around these two characters because we weren’t given many insights into their past or their present. But, as I kept reading, I began to understand that that was a deliberate act on Erin’s part; she was giving readers a true depiction of how Kat and Trina lived their lives, and because they weren’t exactly close to anyone, we were also kept at a distance. Then, when the secrets started to come out, so did a deeper look into Kat and Trina’s lives, which definitely helped to sort everything out in the end.

When the Sun Goes Down is a unique read that takes several twists and turns along the way. It provides interesting insight into what happens to the mind when it experiences traumatic situations. It’s a different kind of romance story that will keep readers guessing until the very end.

I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Wow…thats all I can say right now. This was not the story I expected to read but it was wonderful journey.

Ok so here we go….We start with Trina. Trina is a 22 yr old music teacher in NYC inner school. She is quiet and sheltered with castle walls around her heart. Everything changes when Lucca comes crashing into her world and turns it upside down. Lucca is instantly attracted to her and determined to find a way in. He wants to get to know her come hell or high water. Will Trina finally break down the walls around her heart to let Lucca in?

Kat is on a mission of revenge. Revenge against her father. Revenge against cheating, narcissistic a@!hole men. She goes out on the prowl at night to find them and make them suffer. Leo is Kat’s protector in every sense of the word. Leo loves her and she loves Leo the best way she can since her mother was murdered 9 years prior. Will Leo be able to save her from herself? Will he be able to save her when she puts her plan in motion to make her father pay for taking away her mom? Will Leo get her to understand how much he truly unconditionally loves her?

Again this was not the book that I expected when I started reading but I loved the whole ride. I want to tell you so much but I don’t want to give away the good stuff. It is a story about love and healing. Once I started I could not put in down and neither will you. Nothing is what it seems from beginning to end. There is not cliffhanger and you get a HEA-ish. I say -ish because I am greedy and when you get to end of this book you will see what I mean. You will want to be greedy too…lol. It is impossible to not fall in love with all the characters in this book. You become attached and feel all their emotions as your own.

Erin Noelle has written another fantastic book and I no longer “hate her” for ripping my heart out in her Metamorphosis Series (I may or may not have used that as my opening line when I met at AITC in March…I sorry Erin :( ). A definite must read.

Well first things first, this book is for 18+ readers only please. I was introduced to the writings of this author through my very dear friend and I could not be more happy that she turned me on to this. This was an awesome book and I enjoyed it all at one time. I just could not help myself. Yeah maybe I should have set it down here and there and made it last longer but that just did not work that way.
This book starts out in a courtroom setting with a murderer getting a not guilty verdict. The young girl in the front row freaks out understandably about this. Fast forward to adulthood. Trina Foster is a music teacher and it is her world. This is what she loves and if she could spend her days with just the children and music she would. At least that is all she thinks she needs. Her life is very organized, or so she thinks. She is very docile like and avoids all confrontation if she can. She does not like having attention drawn to her. She seems very reserved. She meets Lucca in a bloody awesome way. Can he save her? Does she even need saving? Oh you have to read it to find out.
Then you have Kat. Kat is out for revenge! She aims to get it anyway possible. Her only friends are Leo and his mother. The dynamics here amaze me. Kat is ruthless in many many ways! So as you are reading this awesome story you are thinking, ‘Oh I know how this is going to go!’ BAM Plot twist! This book will twist and turn when you least expect it to.
I am giving this book 5 stars and am saying to my excellent friend, THANK YOU for bringing this author to my attention. I loved this book. I feel there is room for more, so please Erin Noelle, tell me there is another one coming.

Wow! This story was woven together perfectly. When I started reading, I wasn't sure how this book would play out. It has POVs from Kat & Trina. I got to meet Trina Foster, an elementary school music teacher, who doesn't let anyone get close to her. She keeps to herself and doesn't have any close friends, but she does have a female co-worker at school that she talks to. She doesn't have any relationship with her outside of school. While at work one day, she meets Lucca Ellis, who's filling in as a substitute teacher. I loved him right from the beginning. There was just something about his character, mannerisms & personality that was hard to resist.

Then there's Kat. I was a little confused as to how she fit into the story, but figured it out as I read more. Kat is dealing with a childhood tragedy & still hasn't gotten through it. She's determined to deal with it her way outside of the therapy she's had. And she's trying to heal anyway she can. She doesn't have anyone outside of Leo, her driver, etc. and his mother who have both been in Kat's life since she was young.

When the Sun Goes Down has hidden secrets, suspense, men that offer comfort, the feeling of being safe & will do anything to protect the women they care about. From the beginning, I felt the troubled emotions these women were going through. It didn't have a cliff-hanger, per se, but I'm wondering if there will be more to this story in the future.

I loved the concept of this story and the main character. This was a very different story for Erin Noelle from her Book Boyfriend series.
Although from fairly early on in the story you figure out what the main character is up to, the idea behind it is fun and seductive. The dual POV is insightful and pulls out interesting character traits. Erin Noelle always does a great job of creating book boyfriends that are easy to get wrapped up in. Lucca is no different. He is sweet, thoughtful, understanding and gorgeous of course.
There were times throughout the story I felt Noelle rushed a scene or plot point. So although as a reader you could fill in the blanks, there were a few areas of the story that felt incomplete given that the premise of the story was a really good idea.
The twist in the story was unexpected and good. Just when you thought the story was going to be predictable, Noelle threw in the kicker. Loved it!!!
What makes Erin Noelle a fabulous author is her willingness to try new story tactics and ideas. They are unique, exciting and a welcome addition to the contemporary genre. I always look forward to her books because of the risks she will take in adding elements to a story that very few authors will do. She isn't reinventing the wheel of boy meets girl. Rather she is making it so much better.
I can't wait to see where she takes the next book in this series. D 3.5/5

I don’t wanna sound like a hypocrite and write a stellar review about this book despite my 4-stars rating because there really are some points that made me think like - i don’t get it, and for several times, it made me want to back down. Erin Noelle’s BBF series completely captured my heart and it still does until now, but this book was written in a way that did not really stunned me immediately although the plot could have been really interesting to delve into. I gave it a high rating however because i think that the story is unconventional and i sort of liked the transition of the characters.

This book is about a daughter’s indomitable will for revenge, how putting justice in her own hands made her a two-faced monster, and her journey to finding the new sunshine in her life that will make her want to be a better person and move on from the pit of darkness she trapped herself in the past nine years. But this isn’t just about hatred and vendetta, you will somehow be curious of the mystery behind Kat and Trina’s persona and of course i am thrilled to let you know that this is definitely a HEA.

On the first half of this book, i was thisclose to quit following where Kat and Trina will lead me because as much as the mystery kept me occupied, it went beyond my quota already and also the fact that it lacked the kind of emotional bond i look for in a book. All those time i was figuring out the catch and picking up the pieces to the puzzle, which really made sense only on the second half. I realized it wasn’t that bad to wait that long at all. Especially when i confirmed that Leo and Lucca are separate individuals. ;)

*****If you plan on reading this, might as well you skip from this part onwards because i am about to spoil something.*****

Kat is the Cruella de Vil, who plays a dirty game with an aim to bring her father down, while Trina is the conservative and anti-social elementary teacher who refuses to be noticed by anybody. Kat by night and Trina by day, this is the first book i have read which has a single character that plays both the heroine and the villain. I didn’t like who Kat was, her diabolical plans for vengeance and her relationship with Leo was the most selfish and twisted. I liked Trina, she is tame and aware of her behavior but it was when she met Lucca that really gave me hope of seeing a huge change in her.

Leo is Katrina’s oldest bestfriend, first crush and her lover for a very long time but their relationship remained platonic and professional after the tragedy that happened to her family. I had an impression about Leo that he’s a pervert, masochistic man who follows whatever Kat asks her to do. But then i understood later on that this man’s feelings for Kat transcended what’s rational and moral, he was a slave of his feelings for her that he will support whatever she wants to do for as long as it brings her happiness. The things he did for her, i couldn’t ask for a greater proof of his unconditional love.

Lucca is the real sweetheart; gentleman, persistent, forthright and understanding. They were opposite in so many ways but putting them together makes a perfect match because he tames the lion in her, he gives the peace she’s been needing, accepts her for who she is and was not scared off by her wicked tendencies. Bad girl charmed the good boy. Never gets old.

What i guarantee after reading this book despite my negative remarks on the writing is that i will surely be waiting on the release of the next book because the epilogue clearly screams for an exciting sequel. And it is in freaking Leo’s POV, i am so intrigued with the life of this particular character and i want to see him get a chance at his HEA too.
If you’re in the mood for a feisty read and your mind is on the right track, please grab this one. But if you are harboring a deathly hatred right now, i suggest skipping this book for the mean time as it may provoke evil thoughts.

Insights: From time to time, we learn things the hard way, this book discusses a topic that SHOULD NOT be a real life issue ever but we know that somewhere out there, someone’s going through the same phase. I just hope that like Katrina, you can also find forgiveness in your heart before you do anything regretful in the end and choose to move along on a clean slate other than plot the deaths of your enemies. There’s got to be somebody lurking in there that will bring back the calmness in your soul and is willing to be with you all the way.

Remember, love conquers all.

So, I’ve read the first two books in Erin Noelle’s Book Boyfriends series. But, this book is completely different than that series. Just a friendly warning. Don’t get me wrong, this book has its fair share of swooning and it does have a bit of a love triangle. However, When the Sun Goes Down is more of a suspense romance. I figured out all the plot twists early on, but I’ve heard other people were very shocked by the plot twist that was a little after the halfway point and the plot twist at the end. This book will keep you captivated trying to figure out what Kat’s motives are and how the two POVs tie together.

“I’m just not ready for anyone to be close to me. I know if I let someone in, they’d run away scared once they found out who I really am, and my heart would break all over again, I just can’t.”

The story is told in alternating POVs between Kat and Trina. These two women seem to be polar opposite, but they do have one similarity: they’re both insanely secretive and protective of their past. Oh, and they both seem to be anti-social. Trina is an elementary school music teacher. She has one good friend, Lauren, who she keeps at arm’s length. Kat is a seductress who goes out at night to mess with guys. Her only companion is Leo, her driver, her childhood friend, and sometimes lover. At first, it doesn’t really make sense why the author chose to write from their POVs, but it quickly become obvious.

“Since the day we met, I knew that I had to have you. And I don’t just mean sexually, even though I’m very much looking forward to that at some point in the future. But right now, I plan on learning everything there is to possibly know about you and spending every minute I can with you that you will allow.”

Trina’s quiet life quickly starts to change with the arrival of a new teacher, Lucca, who she literally runs into on his first day at the school. Lucca is persistent, charming, sexy, and all in all the perfect guy. He brings Trina out of her shell, and shows her what she’s missing in companionship. Kat sets out to ruin her father’s political image by sabotaging any politicians associated with him. Eventually their lives collide and shit goes down.

“I can’t even explain what you do to me, but I need to take care of you. I know you’ve got demons deep inside that head of yours that you’re dealing with, and I’m pretty sure that I scare you just as much as you scare me, but I think we’re good together. I think we can fix each other if we just give this a chance.”

I liked watching Trina change into a happier woman because of Lucca and I liked watching Trina change her ways. I also want to see more of Leo, because I don’t believe his story is done. I can’t really say much without spoiling what happens. It was a great story of a girl who has lost herself to revenge. She was no longer doing anything but going through the motions of life, but love brings her back to the living. When the Sun Goes Down is a story of healing, letting go, batting your inner demons, and letting love in.

“I love you in a way I can’t explain, but I’ve known for a long time that I’m not the one for you. I’ve made it my job to take care of you until that one comes along…Just think of me as your nightlight until the day comes when the sun rises again in that fragile little heart of yours.”

I’ll just say that this book wasn’t my favorite of Erin Noelle’s. But, I would still recommend it. It has fantastic reviews, and the reasons I didn’t like it were not because of the story line or anything against the author. I didn’t like the writing style for this particular book, and it was a little hard for me to stay interested once I figured out the plot. But, I kept reading because I wanted to see how it would play out. If you want a unique story with hot romance and a bit of suspense, then this is your next read.

“The day my father shot my mother for walking in on him with his whore, I lost the ability to love completely…And even though I know nothing I can do will ever bring her back; the time has come for me to get my revenge on the bastard that stole the sunshine from my life.”

I am a great big, for life fan of Erin Noelle! Her Book Boyfriend series is one of my favorite series I have ever read...like ever, ever! This woman could write a book about tax laws and I would probably read it. That is how much I love her work :) So when I heard she had a new book coming out and it was completely different than her other books, I was definitely intrigued and couldn’t wait to read it. Now that I have, all I can say is holy HELL, WTF and sweet baby Jesus was that an amazing book!! When the Sun Goes Down was like a breath of fresh air and ridiculously HOT to boot! It is totally different than anything I have read in a long time which I found refreshing. This book is complete with a total ”OMG I did NOT see that coming” moment and I love when that happens in books! I pride myself in usually being able to figure things out but I didn’t see this one coming! I’m going to try hard not to give anything away because I hate spoilers and everyone should have the joy of experiencing this incredible book all on their own.

WTSGD is told from 4 different POV’s. In this story we meet Trina, Lucca, Kat and Leo.

Trina is a dedicated elementary school music teacher who keeps to herself and works hard to keep her private life private. She loves her job and the children she teaches but has no desire to socialize with anyone outside of that. Trina hasn’t had the easiest life and as a result secludes herself from the rest of the world.

Lucca is a new, devastatingly handsome and charming teacher that has just moved to NYC and started teaching at the same school as Trina. From the moment these two run into each other...and I mean LITERALLY run into each other...the sparks fly. Lucca is instantly taken with Trina and pursues her diligently. Trina fights this attraction and tries to keep her distance but I think we all know how that always turns out...it just doesn’t happen. Thank goodness! Trina finds herself more and more drawn to Lucca and his very dominant personality. As someone who has always maintained such control over her life, she finds it refreshing to let somebody else take control for a change.

“I’m not used to obeying other people’s commands. Ever since I was a teenager, I would actually challenge anyone who tried to tell me what to do, but again, for some incomprehensible reason, it doesn’t bother me when he does it. I won’t admit to him or anyone else, but I kind of like the slightly dominating role that he’s beginning to take with me. I like it, but it scares me.”

Kat is a sexy seductress who has some serious daddy issues. Her father, with whom she has NO contact with, is now a very high ranking political figure. She has made it her life’s mission to make him pay for how he wronged her and her mother. Kat comes up with a very intricate plan to make this happen and it includes starting with his staff and some seriously kinky, dominatrix type behavior. I don’t want to say too much but many of these scenes will have you fanning yourself and thinking “Erin, you dirty, dirty girl”! That’s right...Erin Noelle is getting her freak on and sharing it with us in this book!

Leo is Kat’s long time friend and driver. This is one of the strangest relationships I have ever encountered in all of the books I have ever read. I loved Leo and it is completely obvious that he loves Kat and that she has some kind of feelings for him. Yet, Kat is so focused on her plan of revenge that she can’t see anything past that. Leo will do anything to help Kat and make her happy, even going as far as to drive her to her little kinky sexual rendezvous’. The whole relationship was so bizarre and I just could not figure it out!

This was such a page turner to read and I literally could NOT put it down! Then I got to the HOLY S#@T moment and I HAD to finish it ASAP to see how it all turned out. Seriously, you won’t see it coming! Erin’s ability to weave this story and pull it all together astounded me. I mean we know from the BB series that she can write a love story with some great sex, but this was on a totally different level. Erin has truly outdone herself with this book and I can not recommend it enough. WTSGD is a huge 5 star read for me and I can’t wait for all of you to experience this amazing book!

**JODIE'S REVIEW**

When The Sun Goes Down is told from alternating POV’s between Trina and Kat and I will admit at the beginning I literally thought I was reading two different books at one time. I kept saying what in the hell is going on. I knew Erin had to have a reason for this and I knew from the synopsis I was in for something. My brain was going a million miles an hour and I was forming theories while reading. I admit it wasn’t pretty!

“However, my body isn’t on the same page as my brain because the butterflies from earlier in the night have morphed into baby dragons that are flapping around wildly and breathing their fire directly in the area where my thighs meet.”

We start out meeting Trina and she seems like your all American elementary school teacher. She keeps to herself and is very quiet but you also get this sense that she is hiding something or that there is more to her. Trina really doesn’t have any friends except for Lauren, a fellow teacher. That is until Mr. Ellis shows up on the scene. Lucca Ellis is a sub at the school Trina teaches at and from their first meeting you know these two are going to be seeing a lot of each other. I immediately was drawn to Lucca. Lucca is gorgeous, caring, protective, and did I mention alpha because the boy has a serious dominant side. Ummm yeah he had me all kinds of things.

“That boy is doing something to my mind…”

Then the book switches and we meet Kat who is the complete opposite of Trina. She is a seductress and we immediately know that she out for revenge. She doesn’t work and she is maybe one of the darkest, dominant messed up women I have met in a book. It’s the way she goes about getting her revenge that makes you scream “OH MY GOD IS NUTS!” Seriously I have never met a character like her! With her we meet her Leo, the only man or person really who has been there for her since she was a child. He also happens to be her bodyguard and driver. I have to admit this was my favorite character and I am hoping to get more of him. He is AMAZING and truly I just want more of him but I am not going to lie this relationship is f’d.

“Our relationship is unconventional and most definitely unhealthy. He is the closest thing I know to love, yet it’s still so f**ed up that I’m not even sure that’s the correct terminology for it.”

So yes there are quite a few players in this book and as I said from the beginning, I didn’t know what the hell I was reading. But as the story goes on and all the secrets are revealed, my head thought it was going to explode. EVEN THOUGH I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT!! I will say this book was refreshing, it’s different and it keeps you reading. But what is keeping me from 5 stars are the way it all came together I don’t know I wanted more, I expected more! There was so much build up I just felt it fell flat and fizzled for me. So 4 stars and even though this is a stand alone, giving me a Epi from Leo’s POV really makes me want his story and his HEA!!

“I’ve officially gone crazy.”

No change that.

“I’m not just crazy; I’m certifiable.”

I personally am a HUGE fan of Erin Noelle's. I bought her first book Metamorphosis on a whim and quickly fell in love. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to read and review the second two books in the Book Boyfriend series. When I heard that Erin had a new book coming out and it was darker and different from the others, I was eager to get a copy. As luck would have it I had the chance to receive an ARC for When the Sun Goes Down !!! Once again,Erin does not disappoint. A fan of both series and stand alone books, it was a nice change to read a stand alone and not have to sit and wait and wonder what happens next.

There will be no spoilers in this review!!!!

Trina is a shy and insecure school teacher. She loves her kids and prides herself in her work. Termed "frumpy" she does not feel the need to show off and create a scene. A homebody who loves to cook and read Trina does not really spend too much time thinking about or pursuing men. When a new teacher arrives at school Trina can not help the way her blood simmers when Lucca Ellis looks at her. People say relationships are hard and they take work. Sometimes fighting the inevitable is even harder though, and a girl can only change her panties so many times in one day!

Kat is hard as nails and sexy as sin! She lives her life by routine and hardly strays from it. A blackened heart and shattered soul has jaded her view on men. Men want only one thing in Kat's mind.....SEX , and they don't care what they have to do or who they have to destroy to get it. Kat makes it her mission in life to teach the male species that a woman scorned is not someone to mess with. Her only friend Leo has been by her side since she was a small girl and the ONLY man she will ever allow to see her battered heart. How many times can you take from someone when you never plan to return?

Lucca Ellis is the sexy new teacher with the unique eyes. When he is literally smacked in the face by Trina at school one day he makes it his mission to bring her out of her shell. Playful, sexy and a man who knows what he wants, Lucca is the perfect man. He knows there is more to Trina then she lets on and he is determined not only to make her his but to help her heal and tear down her walls. As pieces begin to fall and truths are revealed is love enough to hold the heart together or will it shatter forever?

A lot can happen and secrets are revealed When The Sun Goes Down!

This book threw me for a loop. I loved the angle she wrote this book from and how the characters all intertwined together. In my opinion this is a deeper, darker read then her previous books. The ending was perfect and I finished the last word with a smile on my face. I would HIGHLY recommend any of Erin's books. Add this book book to your TBR list or go and one click it right now! I give Erin Noelle's When The Sun Goes Down 4 glasses of Pinot Grigio (because thats my favorite!)

“You are the light that keeps me from being afraid of the dark.”

Quotes from books stand out to me when they completely encompass the message of entire work. That quote comes from the protagonist remembering her mother saying that to her which baffled her in that moment. She was a little girl. All she could think was how could she be the thing that made her mother feel safe when it was her mother who protected her?

All the way through the book, there's this sense of vague schizophrenia to it where the reader struggles to come to terms with where these two lives converge, how they could possibly mesh in any way with one another, and what the ultimate end goal of the book is going to be yet the main theme from both female's stories is about protection.

Kat has Leo who guards her on her nightly excursions out into the wilds of the city where she is fierce and fearless because he is there. She knows he's there. That assurance keeps her sultry self as bad as she wants to be. There is nothing Kat seems incapable of doing, no lines she won't cross, no bridges she won't burn because Leo will protect her. He's her nightlight in the darkness though I wonder if the light he casts didn't do anything more than illuminate the monster her quest for vengeance had turned her into.

On the other hand, Trina gets Lucca who protects her from every day humiliations, struggles with her tool of a boss who tries to coerce her into his bed, and dealing with social interaction outside of her carefully structured working life that begins at 8 AM and ends promptly at 3 PM. Lucca lights up the world for Trina so she can see that the sun? It's still shining in the sky during the day no matter what may happen when it goes down at night.

Lucca brings sunshine to the days of the shy teacher's life while Leo illuminates the darkness which Kat thrives in.

Both men serve as protectors for a woman who the reader isn't entirely certain needs protecting. That's what's compelling about both women: they're capable yet not all at once, both victim and violator, a Janus-faced coin.

Every moment of this read was packed with action and when it all begins to coalesce into one story? It's a unstoppable train, squealing down the tracks as the brakes fail and all the reader can do is hold onto the nearest grip-bar until the ride is over one way or another.

It's been a long time since I read a book that surprised me. This one was a shocking thrill-ride I'm glad I was able to take.

*Note: My review is based on a complimentary copy provided to This Redhead LOVES Books Blog in exchange for an honest opinion. I have since purchased it because I want to keep it in my collection to read again later for the sheer joy of the experience. Some books are worth a re-read. This one is worth more than one.*

Erin Noelle is a go to Author for me !! I will read any book of hers anytime and know that i will always be satisfied !!
This was no exception to that but WOW it was so different than her norm and WOW just blew me away and she got me good with this book !!

We have Trina and Kat's POV alternating by chapters through the whole book. These two girls could not be any more different. You will find out how their totally different lives merge together and cross paths that almost destroy all they have worked so hard to build and destroy.

Trina is the simple school teacher with no life outside of work. It seems she may have some hidden secrets that would answer the question as to why she is so closed off but she also has no intentions on spilling them. She loves what she does , teaching music to the young children and enjoying watching them grow and learn. Her friend Lauren is relentless in trying to get Trina to open up and go out and have fun. Now that Lucca Ellis works with them at the school it seems Trina's walls may be breaking down. Finally accepting the invitation to go to dinner with Lauren and having Lucca be there is a life changer that Trina may not be ready for. Falling for Lucca is easy , but deciding to be with him and let him in is the challenge that turns Trina's world upside down.

Kat seems to be spoiled and needy. Using her 1 friend , Leo, for all of her needs. Protector , driver , lover , friend and family. Leo does all of this happily , never asking questions. Kat lives on a schedule of finding men and seducing them to prove a point. In the long run she has been doing this all with 1 goal in mind. Destroy anyone and everyone that has to do with her father and then finally destroy him. The closer Kat gets to her goal the more outspoken Leo becomes about her plans , the more this happens the more Kat realizes what she is doing to Leo and what she is doing to her own life. Kat starts to find happiness somewhere she never expected to and now she has some choices to make.

Trina and Kat's worlds collide and you will not believe how it happens !!
Just when you may think you have it figured out you are blown away. Are you freaking kidding me !! This was perfect , I loved reading about these 2 girls and I was into both of their lives , I felt invested in their plans and their reasoning. I was able to connect and feel the emotions through Erin's writing and yes at times I wanted to smack Trina and Kat , I mean really , Leo and Lucca are some hot A$$ men and I would definitely be happy and content !! The relationships are true and the sex is HOT !! I hope and pray we get more because that little Leo snippet at the end was just too much for me to handle and if I do not get more I may stalk Erin FOREVER !!

Holy crap, where to start ... this was a completely unexpected book. From the synopsis, it sounded sexy and something screamed, "sign up for this one!" Man am I glad that I did. When the Sun Goes Down was sultry, sexy, snarky, sad at times and absolutely fun to read.

Trina is an elementary school music teacher, she is a recluse who keeps the world at arms length ... during the day. At night, Trina turns into Kat, a sultry, sexy, ambitious woman with a dominant confidence about her that grabs men by the balls and makes them her bitch. Literally! No, really, that's basically what the story is about. Okay, not all of the story but a big chunk of the beginning is Trina dolling herself up, settling into her weekly routine of specific colored outfits on specific days of the week, finding a guy at a place of her choosing and making him beg her to give him the release he seeks. Why does she doe this? Well she's got a vendetta against all man kind to settle and she does just that one man at a time. She's assisted in this by long time friend, lover and a bodyguard of sorts, Leo, who has been taking care of Miss Kat in more ways then one since she was 14 years old.

In walks Lucca Ellis. The newest 2nd Grade Teacher at the Brooklyn Elementary where Trina teaches. How do they meet, well by smashing his face in accidentally with a door. The rest as they say is history right?! Wrong! Trina and Lucca both have pasts they'd rather not share with the other but Lucca feels this need deep in his bones to protect Trina from the world. Trina has been working to get back at her father since he killed her mother right in front of her eyes when she was 14. She vowed in front of a packed court house that she'd kill him one day and ever since she's been on the war path to do just that, bringing one man a night to his knees to make him pay for any indiscretion he's ever had toward a woman, no matter who they are. Now that Lucca is in her life, Trina must dig deep to decide if he's the one that she'll finally let close enough to her and let the vendetta go once and for all.

Such an incredible story, the characters were utterly fascinating to read about and well developed. Erin Noelle's writing style flows beautifully and her story commands your attention. I couldn't put the book down! I've not read anything else by this immensely talented Author but I plan to here in the very near future. I also can't wait to see her again in Chicago. I'm desperately hoping that she'll write Leo's story because there's one that begs to be told. Bravo Erin! Pick this one up ladies, you won't be disappointed.
