Clandestine
Tru died at a very young age, and when she was resuscitated, she came back with a powerful gift – the ability to travel to Shaolin, a parallel realm, in her dreams.
Taus, her sentinel in Shaolin, was assigned to Tru the moment she was blessed with this gift, and has watched her from afar for the better part of her life. Taus himself was a child when he received his charge and was raised with his duties in mind: to physically and mentally prepare to defend Tru’s safety, should there ever be a need. But through the years, as he fortified his personal knowledge of her, he has grown to love her deeply.
That love pushes Taus to his very limits of self-discipline and focus when he finds Tru in Shaolin, stranded in a corporeal state, having fallen victim to an insidious race's curse as they sought to procure her gift. Encountering various mystical creatures in their travels, they traverse the dangerous magical realm seeking a cure – Taus stoically trying to save that which is his, and his feisty companion fighting him every step of the way. Coming from different worlds and experiences, Taus and Tru don’t see eye-to-eye on much, but to reach a minimum level of safety, they will need to find a way to break down their own defensive barriers and discover the intimate bond they share.

Tru died and in doing so gained a very special gift, the ability to dreamwalk to another realm. Taus is a sentinel in that other realm, Shaolin. He has been assigned to Tru as her protector while she is within his realm, meant to keep her safe from any of the strange and deadly creatures that reside there. He is stronger than his government knows, able to follow Tru home and watch her in her own world....
He cannot help the love that blossoms within him, but when terrible forces conspire against the woman he loves, trapping her within Shaolin, he will stop an nothing to save her life and return her to where she belongs.
I was fortunate enough to get to read this book before Jolyn published it and I have loved it every since and have been waiting ever so patiently for her to share it with the rest of the world!
In the beginning, Taus' strange, formal manner of speaking and rigidity made it hard to connect with him, but that only lasted a tiny bit before I was lost in the amazing place Shaolin was and falling head over heels for the difficult guardian. Tru is headstrong and totally hilarious. She is easy to root for as is Taus once you see the below his layer of stone.
The world itself is lush and beautiful and it is populated with creatures you'll recognize and others you'll experience for the first time, but all of them will amaze. I laughed out loud many times at the predicaments Tru gets into and the creatures that have so much personality.
This is my favorite book by Jolyn and I'm so excited for it to be out in the world for others to fall as deeply in love with as I have.
