This is a lovely opener to a new series of books. At first I was uncertain about the length and speed of the book but then I felt what a relief, the usual mm love story/ drama whatever this turns out to be will refer to the main characters upbringing and how it has shaped them to who they are in the present. This seems to be a series for the long hall, and I lookimg forward to it. I'm sure some of the reading may not be pleasant featuring death, separation, or a system that seems to make uninformed decisions, but it is a chronicle of a life, and I'm looking forward to.journeying along with Elliott.

Depressing Tale

Elliott has adjusted to life with a single parent. He and his dad are close, and he has a friend or two at school. Then life throws him a series of curve balls, each of which I liked less. By the end of the book, I was sure that I couldn't continue this series, and I won't.

Good read. Was just really starting to get into it when suddenly it was over. And who is this strange man suddenly coming into Elliott's life that he has absolutely no knowledge of? Poor Elliott is just starting to get back to some type of normalcy in his life just be thrown into total chaos once again. Will he ever find stability? Will he ever find a family he can count on? How about friends that he can develop real lasting relationships with?

You'll just have to read the other books in the series to find out the answers to these questions. And I'm sure there will be even more questions raised in subsequent books.

I stopped reading this but forced myself to finish. It's about an eleven year old boy whose mom died when he was six. He undergoes further tragedies in the course of this book. I really cannot relate to such a young kid, and it was depressing to read about his setbacks. Plus, it's similar to other books I have read. I doubt I will continue the series, especially after reading the synopsis for book two.

I'm only giving it three stars because it's a serial, which I didn't realize until I was well into it. And upon reading spoilers, (I live to be spoiled) I'm not sure I want to keep reading.
